has nobody thought this sudden decline is not due to not being able to spend, but because of Steve Round? we were able to beat the big clubs in recent years, but lately, we are not beating ANYBODY... {Ed025's Note - good point mate...since he came there has been a sharp decline!..

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Totally agree. Remember how boring boro were when he was there with mclaren, utter crap! Get Irvine back in the role maybe? {Ed025's Note - that would be good...but moyes is the boss, its up to him how the team play, if he does not think round is performing...he should sack him!..

Agree1 Disagree0

Totally agree - there's no 'passing and moving' at all - everyone is static - no one moves into space to accept a pass - no one has a clue how to get the ball forwards with speed into dangerous areas - even Baines himself said the other day that he can't remember the last time we gave our centre forward a one-on-one situation with the opponent keeper.
if he's saying those kinds of things it must be obvious to the players that there's something wrong in the way we're playing.
I remember watching the villareal game pre season and thinking that their team was miles better than ours at simple passing and moving - they were constantly on the move and ran rings around us
and I think their stadium is like a small 25k one isn't it? - with not exactly massive stars playing for them - and yet they were miles better than us because they played 2-3 touch football and passed and moved for each other - ALL THE TIME - not just every now and again - they played the whole 90 minutes on the move and on their toes - whilst most of our guys we're walking about half the time.

This is definitiely down to the coaching and it needs sorting - we have no style of play that the players understand - it's just made up from one pass to another - coleman gets stuck out on the touchline - can't go forwards - can't beat his man - his inside midfielder is awol or hiding - and so he passes it back to hibbert just to get himself out of trouble (cos the opposition are pressing us 'natch') - and then its inside to Jags who has no option but to hoof it - the whole thing is p*ss poor - no wonder fans are complaining and not going to the games any more

Is there any news on a takeover, or as usual us blues get lied to to shut us up. Someone step in soon, all us blues need this. Jc {Ed025's Note - we are still waiting jc.....lets hope that it is so secretive, that no one is letting the cat out the bag..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

How long do these "meaningful discussions " take for Gods sake ! Other clubs seem to be taken over within weeks of an interest being shown .I fear we'll miss the boat again or is this yet another smokescreen either way alarm bells should be ringing loudly at Goodison ,action by THE WHOLE club directors , management , and players because we are only heading in one direction at the moment ( a bit like the team ) sideways or backwards !!

Bill has said he will speak to me so long as I bring along my post office savings book so he can the cash.

I wonder if Moyes / EFC are selling the club properly to potential strikers?

It's not just about money is it? (Or is it?)

I'm sure they may be some strikers 'out there' such as Defoe, who definitely 'know where the net is' but who are maybe 2nd or 3rd choice at their 'bigger' clubs (spurs aren't a bigger long term club than efc).

Do these guys know how much they would be idolised if they came and filled this one big missing piece in the everton jigsaw?
35k home fans every fortnight loving you, instead of being a bit part player in some club like tottenham where the fans aren't even bothered about you. (Look at Pienaar - gone from being a household football 'name' in the UK to being a forgotten man).

Moyes should be selling it some one like - "yes - we're a bit cash strapped - but we've got really good international standard players throughout the team and younguns coming through - and all we need to really go places is a TOP (or almost top) striker who will fill that missing place and become a legend at everton".

Surely that must be more appealing to a player like Defoe than sitting on the bench half the time in front of fans who aren't really bothered if they're there or not? {Ed025's Note - the problem mate can be spelt out in one word...MONEY..i think a lot of strikers would love to come, but some of them , who may be classed as 3rd strikers, are on fantastic wages, and are not willing to take a pay cut..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Some strikers wouldnt want to come to us as they will most likely be asked to be a lone striker and if thats not the way they play then they wont be successful! Moyes needs change his tctics if he wants someone like defoe! {Ed025's Note - i think that was the problem with becks..

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep - money may be important to them - but how rich do you need to be before you can afford most things you want like the big house, trophy bird (or two;), flash cars maybe a yacht and holiday home?
Most of these guys must already have all that, so then what's the difference then between 80-100k per week on that bench and maybe GBP 70k at everton?

Massive adulation at one club with 'half time walk on roles' for decades to come and loved by all - and just a bit part player at some other club where you'll be remembered as a decent squad player - but not a 'hero'?

Surely some of these guys would trade the extra million quid when they've already got ten, for a massive starring role at a club like Everton? (compared to their bench position at existing club)

I bet Pienaar would love to be back at Everton playing every week and loved by the fans.

We should use this angle to land a big fish striker, who's a bit unhappy at his existing club. {Ed025's Note - you have already sold it to me....now for defoe...

Henry in an everton shirt would be good! Cant see it happening unfortunately :-( even if it did moyes would stick him up top on his tod and waste his talent! {Ed025's Note - he still has quality, and i would welcome him with open arms..

I can't agree with these 'Moyes out' comments butr do understand where people are coming from. We have a side capable of attacking and shouldn't be afraid to do so.

January is crucial! We need just two players. A creative midfielder (although I wouldn't mind just using Barkley as we all know what he can do and using ANY money we have on a striker!)

Would take Pienaar back. But would love to see Landon back and perhaps Pavyluchenko from Spurs!?

I say rasmus elm and henry

Moyes has asked thierry henry about coming on loan in january! That would be FANTASTIC! but dont think he would come to us! Surely if he wanted to go on loan it would be to arsenal! But we can dream!

hey ed, i was just thinking, with everyone suggesting managers like martinez etc to replace moyes, what do you think of owen coyle?
i think he's a pretty good manager, and he's great with young players and knows how to get the best out of them eg. sturridge, wilshire. he could get the best out of barkley and, when he comes into the senior squad, george green. he's not afraid to use young players either.
i know bolton aren't doing well this season, but everton would have a better squad, so he could do a great job in charge and i'm sure he'd like to continue managing in the premiership.

breeno {ed025's note - if i was making a shortlist, coyle would definately be on it breeno...along with martinez and lambert....i think lambert would be my first choice, simply because of the way his teams play football..

Ed what do you think about our players. who do you like who dont you like. more or less what would your team be?

I think it has been hard for us with so many ins and outs, i cant remember us fielding a full strength side this season. and with a club which lacks depth that is always going to be a big disruption

What do we think about this team?

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
Drenthe Rodwell Osman Fellaini Gueye
Saha

We talk about creativity, in our squad i think drenthe osman rodwell and gueye have enough of it to cause some trouble. with coleman on the right and baines on the left we can use the fullbacks in attack as well but lets be honest and although ive been positive i do admit moving the ball like a rugby game until its with baines on the left is hardly troubling for opposition. i think moyes will realise this because i really think weve got a good enough squad. barkley, cahill, bily, heitinga, vellios on the bench. we just need a bit of luck and a bit of a change i dont think were in as much trouble as you lot say

AussieBlue {Ed025's Note - the squad is not the problem aussie!..for me we have a top 6 squad, but we are an easy touch at the moment because our manager does not believe in the team. im sure the guys would like to be playing attractive football, but they are being stifled in a set up that is based more on not losing than winning. i want to see the youngsters given a chance, the likes of barkley, gueye and velios should be playing more, im not saying every week, but a lot more than at present. i know we need a creative midfielder and a striker, but more than that we need a manager who is willing to take the shackles off the players, and let them express themselves more!, whether or not that is david moyes i dont know, but very much doubt it!..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im not saying youre wrong Ed but i sure hope your are (about moyes that is). I think 7th or 8th is about par with our squad between us and probably aston villa, i just want to see us play with a squad not affected by injury at least then the starting XI chosen would tell us about moyes' mentality. Im not so sure that he's as defensive as most think, against bigger team yes i agree and it killed me when Distin came on for Saha but for me when you think about it Saha deserved to come off anyway and im not sure that vellios or mcaleny would have made much of a difference with the arsenal centres

AussieBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

ED how have we got a top 6 squad? City,United,Chelsea,Arsenal,Spurs,Liverpool are a lot better PADDOCKBLUE {Ed025's Note - i should have said potentially....when we finished fourth, other teams had what you might call better squads, i think with a striker and a creative midfielder, we would not be far behind the likes of spurs liverpool and chelsea..
