Just looked at the table, if we beat Burnley on Saturday and Chelsea beat UTD we will be in 5th place albeit only until Monday because even wobbly arsenal should beat Middlesbrough. Would be nice to see it though even if its just for a couple days.

If we hadn't conceded late against Utd, we'd already be in 5th. Bummer, that one.

Just back home from a cruise which ended up in Barcelona. We visited Camp Nou which is a great experience, what a stadium. A lot of positives, no running track, seats close to pitch, no obstructive views, bowl stadium. I was not there on a game day unfortunately but could imagine that the atmosphere would be electric.
Would not like to be on the upper tier however, too far from the pitch, however the capacity is nearly 100,000 so not needed in our new stadium. Also the only cover is over the main stand.
Would be great if Everton's new stadium was build in a similar manner but with cover over all sides. Oval shape with a capacity of say 55,000 and then you could expand upwards providing that the base and roof were built initially in such a way that the stadium could be expanded in the future if the demand warranted.

See Rom nominated for pfa player and young player awards. Don't think he'll win but great to be nominated.
I'm going for kante or ibra to win player and dele allow to win young player.

Shame Davies only came in the team in January he would have been a front runner for young player of the year.

I don't get the media obsession with Kante. Yes he is good but I thought he was better at Leiscter last year. Gueye has better stats than Kante, and has played in fewer games because of the African Cup of Nations, but the media don't mention him ever.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you seriously want to go on stats when Kante is playing for the best team in the league, so it deflates his defensive contribution compared to Gueye. Gueye, who is an excellent player too, but nowhere near Kante's level. Kante has been the bedrock of two titles now, because he is just that good at what he does. Gueye is so good he got relegated and is now in midtable-ish, despite playing for the side with the top goalscorer in the league.}

a bit touchy-ish there ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I dislike the misuse of stats like is being done there. No one ever takes context into account. I have seen so many idiot journalists on TV here talk about how Gueye is better than Kante because he has made more tackles than him this season that it is beginning to annoy me. Chelsea have a lot more possession for one, secondly making a tackle is not everything, you can win the ball back purely by pressing opponents into giving the ball away by being in their face. Kante does a lot of that, as players often panic when they see him running towards them. Kante has built an aura around him, from the way other players talk about him etc, Gueye has yet to develop that. Also he has off games, such as the derby, where he is absolutely anonymous in a game when he should have shone. Can you ever remember a game where Kante has played poorly? I honestly can't, and I have seen most of his games in the Prem.}

I'm definitely not saying that Kante is a bad player ed or even that Gueye is better. My point was just that, from what I have seen, Kante walks on water according to the media but Gueye barely gets mentioned.

I also am not basing my argument purely on stats but merely using the stats as a frame of reference. I feel like Kante was better last year as this year the quality of the team he is in is much better and as you said Chelsea have more possession etc.

Just my personal take on it anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I actually think he has shown a different side to his game, as has Gueye, this season. They have both shown that they are more than just tacklers, it is just that Kante has just been better at it. Kante has been creative on the ball mate, he deserves the plaudits he is getting. You know he still drives a mini? He doesn't have a new haircut each week for Instagram. He doesn't do anything but train hard and play to his best every week. He should be held up as an example of a true professional for young players to emulate.

To be fair though, I do understand what you are saying about Gueye, he is excellent too, just not as excellent and he is playing in a side built around one player, who is getting all the plaudits because he bangs in so many goals. Plus the emergence of Davies has taken attention from him. Oh and Barkley's off field antics have made him a talking point rather than Gueye. I am not just talking about him getting punched either, but all the bad choices he constantly makes which has led to so many people slaughtering him on social media after he got punched. That is why Gueye will not get the attention he deserves though, rather than because he is not a good player. Gueye either needs to win the league or go out on the lash getting hammered every night and shagging someone else's bird each time to get noticed maybe?}

Fair points ed. Also a good point that Kante wins plaudits in a team of players with bigger names.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have really enjoyed this discussion mate, difficult to disagree with what you say, at least to a degree.}

14 Apr 2017 09:44:11
Regardless of who's the best with these two players and I think you both make excellent points. What excites me is they are both Steve Walsh signings. Seriously this guy has scouted arguably the two best CDMs in the premier league for what they do. I take my hat off to the guy. Our DOF is some signing in itself.

Me too ed. You raised some good points I hadn't actually realised/ thought about.

Also good to have a discussion/ debate on here without it getting heated or turning into a childish argument.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it actually caught my attention as I had been doing research for an article on stats and how they are so often used out of context. You gave me a few things to think about for it, as I was going to include Gueye v Kante due to a presenter on a sports channel saying Gueye was better because he had made more tackles this season.}

14 Apr 2017 15:14:41
Happy I could help then ed. Would also be interested in checking out your article once you publish it. Will you post a link on the forum?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yeah, well it will be on the football-news-views site, which will auto-generate a link to any club sites when they are mentioned in the article. Everton will obviously get at least one mention due to Gueye, so there will be a link on this page.}

As much as I think Gueye is great at his position ed001 is correct in saying he goes missing in some games. His performance in the Derby left me really disappointed as I was expecting so much from him, he promised us a performance against our nearest and dearest when he was at Everton2 with Williams but he along with most of the team that day were shambolic.
Kante is performing much better than Gueye and more consistently. Some games I've watched Kante it looks as though his brain and movement are 1-2secs faster than the opposition. Watch how many times he takes the ball without making a tackle, it's unbelievable how sharp he looks compared to other professional footballers.
I'm more than happy with Gueye's performances most of the season but i'd still take Kante over him every week.
