{Ed025's Note - we will have to wait and see on that one nige..

Let's take a moment to recall the wailing and gnashing of teeth by many posters on this website about transfers that were taking a long time to be finalised and about the players in question who were perceived as dawdling in agreeing and accepting the offers.
Lukaku - he's signed.
Barry - he's signed.
Besic - he's signed.
Atsu - he's signed on loan.
Galloway - he's signed.
We've also got Coleman, Barkley and Stones who've recently signed extended contracts. Add Baines, Howard, Hibbert, etc., to that list.
We still need to sort out McCarthy (extended contract) and Henen (permanent deal).
There's surely another deal - probably a striker on loan - to be arranged before the transfer window closes.
It's obvious to me that transfer negotiations/contracts are complex and time-consuming these days, but it's also clearly evident to me that RM (and BK) have successfully delivered to date.
The banter is great on this site - and I'm just as much a sucker for the gossip and I'm just as frustrated when things take time - but have we been badly let down by RM in his overall transfer dealings at Everton? (That's even if some individual players, e.g. Robles, don't impress us that much.)
I think that RM will have, as he has said he wants, a stronger squad for next season with the signings he's made, the youngsters coming through, and - most importantly imho - the players that we've retained.
Anyone out there want to seriously disagree?

{Ed025's Note - not me sid..quality post mate..

Totally agree Sid, good post mate. Even when Martinez first arrived, he brought in Kone, Alcaraz and Robles, when at the time, we urgently needed players in those positions without too much financial outlay. Obviously these players haven't really worked out, but at the time, Bobby had the foresight to address the need for these positions to be filled on the cheap and with players he could trust to fit with his system. It's been mentioned by another poster that Roberto had a good season with Wigan in his first year, then an awful second season. But we are Everton and he's got much cooler toys to play with. I trust Bobby to continue the good work and fight the blue fight. This transfer window he has been marvellous, no matter how long some signings have taken. Who'd have thought we'd ever get Lukaku?!COYB!

Francisco Junior's loan extension with Stromsgodset is due to expire on August 15th.
Who expects him to return to Everton AND be named in the registered squad; or
Who expects him to stay out on loan - at Stromsgodset until their season ends and then some other club; OR
Who expects him to move permanently to another club, either for a nominal fee or more likely on a free transfer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - option 3 for me sid..

I had totally forgotten about him--probably surplus to requirements now

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless Stromgodset have some kind of training programme similar to Ivan Drago's in Rocky 4, I doubt we'll see Francisco play for Everton next season. Let alone ever again. And yes, I am aware that the Russians were pumping Drago full of steroids, for all you Rocky nerds out there. But hey, he got away with it.

Any body know what David Moyse is doing this weekend?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can probably answer my own question-he is probably looking over the fence thinking how green it is at Goodison

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually who cares

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes has been busy tending his garden and pottering about in his shed. He's even begun to see the first produce from his new vineyard, where he specialises in sour grapes.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 23:05:30
Quality reply ohefb, I'd heard he was doing an open university degree in structural engineering after he burned all his bridges.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your calling Moyes sour, yet you're the one who can't get over the fact that he left Everton for the biggest club in England and arguably the world.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're right nil satis, I was sucking a lemon when I posted that. But my therapist has assured me that now my hairs grown back and I've cut down on burning stuff I am well and truly over it. :)

Assuming no last minute surprise signings after Atsu. Assuming that Lukaku, Mirralas and Atsu may start on the bench what do you think the line up will be and would you take a point?
Given there is still a lack of fire power up front do you think he will go with : Howard, Stones, Jagielka, Distin and Baines. Besic, McCarthy, Barry, Piennar, with Osman advanced behind Naismith.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - myself tedster...i think lukaku will start mate..

We can't start with naismith up front on his own surely to god?
if rom not fit then give chris long a start

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone think McAleny will get a chance? Or has he not fulfilled his potential? I think Long could be a revelation this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wilfy tell me why we can't start with Naismith up front on his own.So you would rather play a ineperienced kid who has never played in the toughest league in the world ahead of Naismith? He may not be the most gifted of players but you know what you're going to get from him which is 100% effort with an eye for goal with two seasons experience of playing at premiership level.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im a big fan jimmy..

G. howard, rb. stones, cb. jags, cb. distan, lb. baines, cm. Mc Carthy, cm. barry, lm. pienaar, acm. naismith, rm. mirallas, st. lukaku

Agree0 Disagree0

Me to ed, he certainly got the boo boys off his back and showed on many occasions last season what he can be capable of playing in his natural position instead of being played on the wing by Moyes. It shows you the mental strength of the lad, the stick he took at times would of broke many players.Fair play to him for proving his doubters wrong.

So atsu has joined on loan, i'd like to apologize to arsene wenger and every fan from Man Utd, chelski, the arse, potatoes, the and city for not breaking the rules, i'd like to apologize to our itk friend who said this deal was definitely not happening, don't worry mate you're not the first, still waiting for rebecca to come back and explain why cleverley and rodwell haven't signed and why we brought in 5 other players, also apologies to christian atsu who will no doubt fall in love with the club but most of all i'd like to apologize to the whole english press as they will no doubt be moaning for 9 months about everton solely relying in loans, let the loans begin

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Quality, Swan.
I especially like the dig at those know-it-alls who said the Atsu deal was definitely off. If only they'd resisted the temptation to play the in-the-know big I-ams and just posted about the negotiations taking longer than hoped for, then they might have saved face. As for the press - don't get me started!

Barry has looked off the pace in pre-season-anyone else think that Besic should start alongside Maccarthy in midfield, We have a tough start and we need to start the season flying.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't think he'll start but if anyone even thinks about slacking in midfield expect him to be unleashed

Agree0 Disagree0

Quinny--unleashed is the right word--another dog of war with a bit more finese

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't wait to see Besic in action. I reckon he'll be referred to as this season's 'buy of the season' in next to no time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Depending on the fitness of players - and how they've performed in training and not just in the preseason matches - I could imagine Besic being one of the three playing behind the lone striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 21:10:57
RM has stated that Kone will not be ready till September--it is a big gamble getting through the first 6 to 8 weeks of the season with one out and out striker--if Rom gets injuryed then we may struggle--we need a recognised striker in the squad before season starts.Who is to say that Kone will be the same player after such an injury and long lay off.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can imagine a striker coming in on loan - especially if RM doesn't think that Long, McAleny or Hope are quite ready yet.

Anyone else prefer to see the club badge rather than the muriel of roberto martinez on the side of the goodison road stand.

The muriel should have been a reward for Robertos first trophy not first season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - when he does win our first one...i want a statue of him the size of christ the redeemer in rio, erected in williamson square mate!..

But then what will we put up when we win the treble ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he will be made president of the world quinny, and everton will become a religion..

Ed--everton are already a religion

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fair point wirral..

Religion has nothing on Everton Wirralboy, the only time Religion will be as important as EFC is when we are winning at Anfield and praying for the fianl whistle. (hopefully this season).

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 20:59:44
Anybody else besides me thinks Stones should start ahead of Jags. The World Cup showed his weaknessess not sure he is the ball playing centre back that will fit Robertos plan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - him and distin have a great partnership going though wirral, they have never let us down mate, and until they do i cant see them being changed..

Has made a number of schoolboy errors in pre season, hopefully he's not let all the hype go to his head and the likes of Jags, Distin have reminded him of where he's at. kick up the arse in other words, same goes for Barkley.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 21:49:39
No chance Distan & Jags every time make stones earn his place not be given it by the English press before they try to destroy him for a mistake

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

I think it would be worth a gamble putting Stones at RB if Coleman not fit, but apparently Besic is versatile enough to play this position too. As long as Alcatraz doesn't start. I get really really nervous when he's playing.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 20:53:00
With the signing of Astu, Barry, Rom and Besic-the squad is looking good--but we still have areas of weakness outside the starting 11--eg, Robles has failed to impress, Alcaraz looks a liability and Hibbert is simply not capable of playing the type of football demanded by Roberto. These are the areas we need to strengthen in order to have a squad capable of challenging on 4 fronts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Aug 2014 19:13:36
Anyone else not got their season ticket yet?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, I got my season ticket a few days ago Swan. Guessing you've not received yours yet?

Anybody fancy Townsend from Spuds for 10 mil.?

I Claudius.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Aug 2014 19:39:30
Because its everton and levy is a tight arse theyd want a bit more, not to mention he is english, so probably 16m? For tottenhams 4th choice winger so he can come here and be our 6th choice winger? No thank you

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 19:39:32
I'd take him any day for the right price 6-7mil because of injuries

Agree0 Disagree0

Isn't it easy spending other people's money; isn't it easy wanting players without really knowing their medical history and their character; isn't it easy picking players, teams, formations, etc., without having the day-to-day workload of developing, preparing and motivating the players - individually and as a team; and isn't it great not to have the responsibility of getting results and knowing your job's dependent on other people (i.e. the players/team) doing things right. Don't get me wrong - it's all great banter on this website, but - like Dirty Harry (that's Eastwood, not Redknapp!) said - I know my limitations and I defer to RM's judgement In all football matters.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - great post sid..

I'd like us to sign the youth team scout from Dundee United! He's earned his money the last few seasons. It's a shame they can't afford to keep all the players they've developed over the last couple of seasons to see how good they could have been as a team that's been developed, not bought, which is my big hope for us with RM.

Agree0 Disagree0

That 10 million would be better spent one of Nolito or Remy, which seems to be roughly how much they are both valued at. The two of them would add more goals to ease the burden on Lukaku, which I doubt Townsend would.

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan not a chance he'd be 6th choice he'd prob be 2nd

Ed, do you know if Yevhen Konoplyanka is a possibility. Earlier in the window he was linked with West Ham for 8 million. Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he was also linked with liverpool bob, but not us mate..

The marketing people would stop any transfer as we could not fit his name on the new shirts

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 10:53:47
I'm sure I mentioned much earlier in the window, or possibly even before the transfer window opened that we should look at both Yarmolenko and Knoplyanka. Both quality midfielders in good form, young enough to be with us for a number of years or potentially sell on recouping some of the fee paid. I believe the two players would be an instant hit in the prem and can not understand if either are available why teams are not snapping at the bit to buy them.
