14 Aug 2015 00:21:05
Yeah, I do think he has been below par for 2-3 years but I admit to being overly, well, very overly harsh on him. Never moans, just gets in with it and despite being what I call below par, it is mainly due to how high a level he was at for a long time, again, despite being below par he was still one of the better Left Backs in the league those 2-3 years and was easily the best before that. Will be a big miss, a leader and someone you know will very rarely let you down. Top player and top professional.

Will they have option to recall Garbutt Ed or do we rely on Oviedo and the youngster

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im not sure on the terms of the loan degs, but he is still our player so i would think there would be a clause for us to recall him mate..

14 Aug 2015 08:47:57
we would still have to wait another 6 weeks anyway for garbutt to become available to play if we do recall him as he's injured.so it looks like its between oviedo and galloway for the time being.

13 Aug 2015 23:33:37
I want stones to stay but for him a move would be best, playing in a team challenging every year for everything us evertonians could only wish for will only make him better. If he does go I will hold no grudge its not as if we can offer the same standard of football they will.

Agree1 Disagree1

14 Aug 2015 00:23:15
Yeah but what do you expect from a man that can barely speak English, honestly, next time he is on the TV, pay close attention to his words, so many slurs and mispronunciations it's like watching Sylvester Stallone if neither side of his mouth worked.

In my eyes were prolonging the inevitable but I don't get the amount of ex players trying to push it threw has Jose threw a let's rally stones brunch, strange one to think we're not a good enough team to at least develop him

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its a bit of bullying imo mike, the big boys knowing that the so called smaller ones cant say no, they will offer big money and possibly a loan back for a while, im afraid its a case of the have,s, and have, nots mate, and we all know where we fit in..

14 Aug 2015 09:14:50
Great idea from a player who ruined his own career with coke and gambling. Maybe stones should look at careers of blues who went to london and ruined good careers.speak to franny jeffers and ask did he make the right choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good point AB..

14 Aug 2015 10:43:18
At best Merson is a rent-a-quote comedy buffoon, at worst an annoying "person".
Just another ex-player who couldn't hack it as a manager/coach and now has no risks or consequences to his livelihood as a pundit, as he has no responsibilities and no-one holding him to account. If he was judged on his predictions - like a manager is on results - goodness knows how long he'd actually last. I feel for him that he had such problems with addiction, but that doesn't excuse him for his need to now express an opinion on everyone and everything in football.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 12:06:04
Merson says he would benefit from learning from Terry who would take him through games, if there's one thing Terry has proved over the years the only person John Terry helps is himself (to his team mates girlfriends mostly)and he would know the sooner John Stones is ready for the 1st team, the sooner his career ends so why would he help stones its not in his best interest which is what John Terry is all about

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 21:38:57
Just a little taught I had if we can somehow go and Nick a win against Southamton on Saturday it would be a huge boost going into the City game which I actually think we might win especially with the confidence the Southamton win would give us and then anything but a defeat at Spurs would set us up nicely going into the International break its a long shot at the moment in my eyes but it comes down to this Saturday's result but you never know I'm just hoping and praying.

So I've been trying to avoid adding to the negativity a lot of blues fans seem to be feeling and the whole "who is signing who" discussion but the transfer window is starting to bring me down now. How are Leicester signing Inler?

I'm going to wait and see what rm does until the transfer window shuts. He said 3 players so I'm giving benefit of the doubt. Let's see what the board actually do for him.
Then I will have my say. Like it matters. We know by now it will be deadline day rush.

Let's just hope we pull some results out the bag

Hi Guys. Remember at the end of last season and what we were all hoping for.

1. Superkev. new contract. DONE, great news
2. Garbutt. new contract.DONE, and for 5 years, awesome news
3. Keep the current squad together. DONE

Whilst the transfer activity at other clubs goes crazy, just remember that not all transfers turn out to be successful so be thankful for the squad we have.

Just watch the clip of RM on the BBC website and to be honest liked what I heard he has stated again that Stones is not for sale and in his own words "that is the end of it" are you listening Jose? (of course not) and he's still insisting we need 3 new players before 1st September if all that happens I will be quite pleased, IF.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

13 Aug 2015 16:28:10
No doubt Jose is getting desperate, he's done it himself and has got his silly Captain and his Centre Back partner to try and unsettle Stones. He's pulled out the offensive jibes, won't be long til he does a Moyes and says we are holdinf him back. What irritates me is everyone wants him to go, Shearer said he should go to further his career (ironic considering he didn't join Utd to further his career), Danny Murphy and hell even Arry Redknapp. Arry said a few weeks ago Stones should stay and develop, no idea what has changed his mind to say he should go. The only one with any sense is Carragher. What I find hilarious is papers like the Telegraph posted 4 articles talking about Stones definitely leaving, they have realised that is not the case and are publishing articles by the hour explaining how Stones isn't that good and should be avoided at all costs. Oh it is funny.

Robles coleman garbutt browning stones Holgate mcaleny deulofeu Helen mccarthey lukaku plus the other youngsters on the fringes plus the likes of miralles Cleverley Barkley naismith the experience of osman jags baines add a few more additions and change our tactics from time to time and that's the making of a seriously good squad

Believable8 Unbelievable1

13 Aug 2015 13:20:27
Will the manager change tactics, or do we need to change the manager? That is the question. He is always playing squares in round holes and vice versa and seems to have no clue how to set up a balanced team

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - first season we were far from boring stevie, but he seems to have gone into his shell since mate..

13 Aug 2015 14:53:26
It's not so much the tactics it's the speed we play at especially Barry he keeps the ball too long apart from Barkley who can drive at teams we miss a link in midfield that player that can roam in between midfield and attack

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 16:31:32
I don't think there is any doubt we have a very good squad, the likes of Jags, Stones, Coleman, McCarthy and Mirallas would slot in to some of the top teams like Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and City pretty easily. We have some great youngsters who are only just getting around the first team like Galloway, Browning and Ledson. We do have a good team capable of challenging for the top four if it reaches it's potential. Just our Manager cannot get them to play to their potential and is actually making them worse each week.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 12:00:41
I feel the signing of Holgate from Barnsley could prove to be good business for the future and also financially. If he progresses the same as Stones, and if we can hang on to Stones then a CB partnership for the future could be Stones and Holgate, with Holgate replacing Jagielka. Add to that a top goalie behind them.
I'm sure Stones helping Holgate as well will help settling in.
I can't really see how Everton can loose out on it.

I see sense in transfers leaving to last minute to save wages etc but the downside is the later it is, then less to choose from. Also when things don't go too well the excuse comes out that they need time to settle in.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

13 Aug 2015 14:19:15
Don't forget Browning and Galloway mate, I thought Holgate was a Right Back though?.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Aug 2015 22:10:27
I'm pretty sure he can play both and is likely play cb in the future, bit like Stones , Galloway , Browning and Pennington. Come to think of it we look pretty much set in defence for the next 10 years if everyone stayed.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 11:29:41
I have to back down on one thing that I caused upset on.When we signed Kone, I said he was a terrible signing and was a waste of money.especially when considering we paid as much as what we had sold a youthful Anichebe for. Well I back down now and apologise for any offence caused for suggesting such a negative thing about our joint leading goalscorer! Perspective is the word I guess.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 17:10:54
I wouldn't let him go now. He's a phenomenal footballer, has the right character for this football club and is the perfect fit.we need to just let him play and watch him grow as a footballer and a person.

I think that's how Bobby would put it.

Agree3 Disagree1

13 Aug 2015 11:16:11
The Telegraph are quoting Roberto as saying that we're looking at "three positions which needed strengthening over the next ten months". That suggests to me that they won't be joining this transfer window, or even possibly the next.

I'm increasingly filled with a sort of impotent rage - we're clearly not being told the whole story by the club, so instead we feed on scraps of information, half truths and out right lies, fighting amongst ourselves whilst everyone on the board remains silent.

The promised AGM didn't happen last year and there's no sign of it being lined up for the coming season either.

Whilst the Blue Union were divisive, I do sympathise with some of their frustrations - the board repeatedly shows little regard for us, the life-blood of the club, and it will continue to while there is no mechanism in place for them to be held to account.

Sadly, I'm as much at a loss as anyone when it comes to what can actually be done to remedy the situation. Which brings me back to the whole 'impotent rage' bit.

Any suggestions are genuinely welcome.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i share your concerns JA as im sure many do, its born out of frustration of what this club can achieve given its illustrious past and possible future, but we do need transparency from the top to bottom..

13 Aug 2015 12:35:57
Do other fans get treated any differently than our club treats us or is it because we care more or we are not playing very well and have more to moan about?
Does Levy, Ayre,Woodward or Deliah tell fans what we feel we should be told by our club?
Do they discuss transfers before they happen or what finances they have?
I think if our onfield performances improved 50% of our complaints would stop. COYB.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - more like 99% alan, a win at the weekend would do nicely though mate..

13 Aug 2015 13:45:22
To be fair he didn't say the squad needs strengthening IN 10 months he said FOR the 10 months ahead i.e the season ahead so the signing should be this window.

13 Aug 2015 20:21:32

13 Aug 2015 10:51:32
Now even Bobby is desperate and is just trying to buy more time from us fans or he genuinely has a transfer plan up his sleeve. In his press conference he is finally 100% stating Stones is not for sale now or for the next couple of years.
He then reconfirms he will sign 3 players including a centre forward and this lad from Barnsley is not included in those 3.
I will now simply hold judgement until the 1st of September following those bullish remarks. However if it does not materialise I think whatever percentage of the fans he still has the full support of May be turned, so for his sake I hope he isn't just buying himself more time

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i do to svenny mate..

13 Aug 2015 11:33:27
Maybe he has Messi, Ronaldo, Bale lined up plus an added bonus of new goalie in De Gea.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 12:04:03
Svenny, he apparently said (not had a chance to watch it myself yet) that we were looking at three signings over the next TEN MONTHS. That's quite a lot of time he's looking to buy!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 12:10:06
Did he actually say that he's after a striker then? I didn't see all of the press conference so must of missed it when he was on about signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 12:30:02
he said we need 3 players that can do a job not just for now but over the next ten months (the season) so not just a short term fix eg a left back due to baines injury. He was asked if a centre forward was a position he needed to fill, he said there are 3 positions where the squad is short and that's one. When pushed if he would be happy with rom and kone for the season he said he expects more from kone this season but it is one of the three areas we are short and that he is extremely confident the squad will be complete

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 12:50:53
Cheers svenny :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 10:39:20
How can we moan about buying for the future, come on lads I hate the crap Martinez talks but he mentioned a golden generation today and it got me thinking yes we have a lot ov ageing players but look at the players we have coming threw or already in first team,, stones, Galloway, Browning, garbutt, Kenny, ledson, Dowell, Walsh, henen, Byrne, besic, macarthy, Barkley and lukaku all young and if kept together could potentially b some team over next few years, I no it's not we want now but come on ay lads it's not ALL bad at the club, COYB

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - having a future is great johny..if you have a present!, this team we have now will struggle this season unless we strengthen, it ok to have potential like the guys you mention, but for us to thrive most of them will have to flourish big time, its no use having a great youth team if you are in the championship as the big teams will offer you a pittance for their services just like us with barnsley or like others have done to crewe...its not all gloom and doom though mate and if we bring in a couple of faces and integrate the young lads into the team without throwing them in at the deep end then we should be ok..reasons to be cheerful...none at the moment.. :)

13 Aug 2015 09:37:43
Finally Rm has said stones not for sale and that's the end of it, cudnt he have dun this last week or the week before

I think its quite obvious by now that we do not have the funds to compete with teams 12 to 20th position in the league.I really fear that our lack of ambition could catch up with us not necessarily this or even next season but a little bit like sides in the not too distant past Carlton spring to mind little or no investment tear upon year coupled with losing our better players is a sure recipe for relegation and once we go down it could be a decade or more before we are ready to return. I am an evertonian of some 25 plus years now and the general malaise amongst our extremley

Believable0 Unbelievable1

13 Aug 2015 09:18:39
Morning,

Seeing everywhere the C Austin will be signed this week. Not sure but, I can at least hope.
I have also heard that Stones to United for 25 plus Evans.
I could do with that if Evans was just the backup and the rest was to sign Lennon and a proper replacement for Stones. With the above we would actually be stronger in my humble opinion. And maybe just maybe a proper number 10, if we actually have money.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

13 Aug 2015 09:13:13
Well headline news Everton have beaten Bournemouth to the signing of Holgate, so that's where we are as a club now we can't compete with the likes of Stoke.
man U say Hernandez going nowhere so not disappointed with that but the news Spuds have signed a striker may put us in the front of the queue for Austin? unless of course Stoke want him to!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

13 Aug 2015 09:01:21
I have to say that I have had some very interesting debates on here with other Blues. If we put our disagreements to one side and just look at objective data, certain worrying facts emerge. Forgetting whether we play more attractive football or more exciting football. and just asking certain more direct questions, gives me quite a lot of concern:
Since the new manager arrived, has the standard of football improved?
Has the organisational running of the team improved?
Has the quality of the squad improved?
Has the stability of the club improved?
Are we more successful as a club?
Do we look stronger going forwards?
I think the answer to most of these questions is a resounding "no!". We have in fact gone backwards in a big way. Furthermore, we now need huge investment in the quad just to remain where we are. never mind improve. That's my overall assessment.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its a fair one as well degs, the only one i would question is the stability of the club must have improved, with all the money from sky and outgoing players financially surely we are on a strong footing there mate..

13 Aug 2015 10:55:56
That's short term stability Ed. And shareholers can remove that as quickly as anything. So even that is questionable

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that mate..

13 Aug 2015 08:32:23
Ok things are really desperate now let's think if we are really going to lose Stones please sell to Everton and take Hernandez and Juanazi plus 15 million for a centre half and change for a young keeper!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think you mean utd AT, i dont want to sell stones but if its the only way to bring in new faces then sometimes needs must, if that is the case then our board must be as inept as we all feel mate..

13 Aug 2015 08:51:44

Everton are favourites to complete their 'Feeding Frenzy' of transfer signings this week with 'Jenny' the tea lady from Scunthorpe.
Jenny (17) known as the 'little whippet' for her speed around the kitchen is seen to many as a long term replacement for Doris (62) whose contract expires in 26/27 season.

Gareth Barry is expected to announce today,
'This is the martea signing this club and those people who pay my wages have been waiting for.'
Martinez will add, Jenny is a phenominal addition to the staff here and completes the jigsaw for our future success.

Dear God please someone, anyone to improve on the dross of last year!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - thats certainly food for thought mushy.. :)

13 Aug 2015 08:42:11
I hear from a reliable source that Jenny has picked Stoke over us, as they offered to pay her actual wages instead of magic beans and Martinez massage vouchers.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we need to keep hold of them magic beans tommy.. :)

13 Aug 2015 08:17:02
Hi Ed. Do you think Moyes would come back if he was asked? I know things were not perfect when he was here but least we had some fight and were well organised. This bloke we have in charge ed is killing the club mate. I wouldn't trust him with money and I don't think our board does. Hope for 3 points at the weekend come on you blues.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - people have short memories alan, most of us could not wait to get rid of him and forget how boring and predictable we were under him, bobby is no better imo but to go down the road of re-visiting the miserable ones era would be a mistake as i see it mate..

13 Aug 2015 10:02:18
So Ed025, just out of interest, who would you like to see take over from Martinez? Because while I want him out, I can't think of anyone who we could realistically get who I rate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i wanted klopp tommy but i suppose thats a bit unrealistic, but anyone we get will need money and our board seem reluctant to part with any mate, i was one of the suckers who wanted RM..so im not the best one to ask i think.. :)

13 Aug 2015 08:06:07
Mattia Destro from Roma linked with a £4.5m move to Norwich - this lads class with his feet and in the air scored goals at every level from serie B to CL to full internationals only 25/26 as well - if we don't move for this lad ahead of Norwich I'd be shocked

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its up to the scouting network jay, what we see in isolated games may not tell the whole story, most of us become closet managers at times mate..

13 Aug 2015 00:40:30
Honestly I don't see what the issue with Holgate is, he looks a very promising talent and we've beaten the likes of United, Newcastle, and others to his signature. If he turns out to be anything like stones (who by the way cost less than this lad) the 1 mil will be well spent. Would u rather we not have signed him. Signing him really should not have any bearing on our other signings, as there could be no way he is ready to play in the prem this year. We still need to sign our three players as Martinez has said but signing him this week is better than signing no one this week. We've still got two and a half weeks and I seem to remember one day two seasons ago where we signed three very good players in just one day (lukaku, McCarthy, and Barry). I am frustrated just as everyone else is at the slow pace of the transfers and the poor play on the field but Holgate looks to be a good signing for me.
