If Coleman isn't available for Swansea next weekend, who do we play?. I don't like the idea of Stones at Right Back against Montero and chucking Moro straight in against Gomis and Ayew?. For me Hibbert is not an option after the last time him and Montero faced each other last season. Tyias Browning? Matched Sterling for pace and bullied him physically when he came on as a sub at Anfield last season. Would be the best option for me or Pennington but I haven't seen how fast Pennington is because we need someone quick at Right Back. I think Coleman will be fit but if not, IMO we should play Ty Browning there, who would anyone else pick IF Coleman isn't available.

I thought Pennington had a bit of shocker meself, hence the half time substitution

Bigger picture on this is hopefully he plays Lennon from the start as backup cover so that whoever does go RB gets plenty of help too. Lennon was excellent at this last season.

Pennington played well.even Martinez said it was unfortunate to substitute him, but had to for tactical reasons.

Mike it was McGeadys whoful passing to the lad that made him look bad. He was always trying to be positive with the ball going forward, and defended his flank well. I would have no problem playing him against the Swans, as long as McGeady isn't playing that is.

Credit to our scouts for picking up Stones and Galloway, let's hope Mason Holgate is the next one through. Not to mention Tyias Browning (who I cannot wait to see get a run at Centre Back) and Matthew Pennington. Not doing too bad for young Centre Backs are we.

Lots of people on here after transfer deadline day complaining that we had spent 9.5m on a slow centre half.

Well, he didn't look too slow yesterday when he raced away from Diego Costa and had to be hacked down from behind. Makes me wonder which Funes Mori that divi Tim Vickery or people on here were watching!?

COYB!!

13 Sep 2015 16:58:17
I'm not casting judgement yet but he did well yesterday. River Plate fans were saying he was quick and Vickery said he was slow, now we know who actually watched him regularly. Has a great leap on him too, like Jags he makes up for his lack of height with one hell of a jump.

13 Sep 2015 17:20:10
Vickery is just another journo/broadcaster who has a love for all things southern or red and that's it.

13 Sep 2015 17:20:52
Calm down aflm 78. I did express concern on spending £9.5m on Mori but I never said he was slow because I never seen him play. I know your comment wasn't directed at me or people who made similar comments to mine. It's the people that were putting the player down that you were talking about.

Still he only played what 10-15 mins yesterday. Hardly enough to see what he's like. He do well yesterday. I'm still concerned because Everton haven't £9.5m to throw around. He is the most expensive defender in the clubs history and has a long way to go to justify buying him. I never said he shouldn't be signed.

As I said here when he was signed hopefully he lives up to what is expected of him. Think everyone will be happy if he does.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Sep 2015 19:01:43
NBTB I am not saying he is worth the money we have paid. Too early for that!

I'm just saying that he certainly did not look slow as Twit Vickery was saying and others on here who claimed to have watched him many times.

Think he looked good but will wait to see how he does in his first full 90 mins before I decide completely!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think a player deserves a lot more time than 1 game aflm..

13 Sep 2015 21:47:27
That's true Ed025 I just meant I want a good luck at him before I decide. Not necessarily just one game as I wrote. However, I usually think that after 90 mins I have an idea of what kind of player someone is, that doesn't mean that if he has a stinker I will decide he wasn't worth the money. But good players usually stand out form bad ones immediately!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thierry henry was really poor when he first went to arsenal aflm, it took him a few months to find his feet and get use to the culture and the league..and he did not turn out that bad mate.. :)

13 Sep 2015 22:18:33
I know what you mean aflm78. I like your posts and agreed with you a lot on here before, just don't want to see you give other people a reason to slate your posts. Thought you were kinda jumping the gun and there would be loads of people on here to tell you how wrong you were if Mori had a bad game. Get what I'm saying aflm78? Trying to have your back really 😉

Just watched the match for the fourth time and in Brendan Galloway we have got an absolute gem of a player.

I expect and nudge up to the senior England squad especially as Luke Shaw is complete rubbish.

I also think Jags was immense and seems to have curbed his long ball trait but to think Smalling and Cahill are getting infront of him and Stones for England is a crime.

It's just a pity Coleman is not English as we would have Englands back four!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

13 Sep 2015 16:54:39
With you on Luke Shaw mate, he's an athlete but is rubbish on the ball. Yesterday I saw loads of Utd fans praising him like mad and I was thinking seriously?. He's fast and strong but that is it, Luke Garbutt is both of those but actually has ability on the ball. He isn't a good defender either, I will get stick for this but I too think he is absolute garbage.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Sep 2015 17:01:45
It is obvious why they are ahead of Stones and Jags mate. Cahill because he plays for Chelsea, for me Jags is a better defender and is quicker, Cahill just gets more goals. Smalling because he plays for Utd and played for Woy at Fulham, him and Stones, no comparison, Stones is streets ahead in everything and is younger. But Smalling has been brilliant this season 'apparently', despite being a laughing stock against Swansea. Hodgson doesn't have a clue.

13 Sep 2015 17:13:16
Totally agree BlueJohnUns Galloway was excellent. He didn't look in any way shape or form out of place. He should only improve from now on. I also noticed that about Jag yesterday. If you ask me Jags, Terry, Cahill could learn a lot from John Stones not the other way around. Is it me or is Jags playing more similar to Stones than he did last season.

Shearer and co should take their comments about Stones learning from Terry and Cahill. For me Stones is the best CB so far in the premiership. So what if he's still very young. Your as good as you play regardless of your age.

At the start of the season, would most of us have realistically expected anything other than a win against Watford and would we have hoped (at best) for draws against Southampton, ManCity, Tottenham and Chelsea? That would have given us 7 points. Well, we've actually got 8 points and the only defeat was to ManCity who have looked a cut above every other team. In my humble opinion, it's been a good start and (apart from not getting a number-ten) the transfer window was pretty good, especially keeping Stones, getting players on extended contracts, bringing in some decent players, and adding some promising youngsters.
On top of that, we're playing a more effective, pacier, less tippy-tappy football that's more entertaining and exciting for the fans.
Now it's up to the team to carry on delivering performances and results.

Couldn't agree more, very happy with our start. As the usual slow starters I'm really happy with our start and the style of football we have been playing!. Watfords been the only disappointment but I think it's going to be one of those seasons with the so called smaller teams taking a lot of points from the so called bigger teams, like we did yesterday eh Jose ;-)

Fantastic start in my opinion, especially considering all the doom and gloom surrounding the club. As for the no 10, I firmly believe we need a little magician to in lock stubborn defences, however we have scored 8 league goals and are diamond Ross has scored 2 and made 4!!

Cowpat your posts do always make a lot of sense. Yesterday was brilliant and I hope there is plenty more of that sort of game and result to come.

I have 2 concerns provided Martinez doesn't change his tactics. One is injuries. At the transfer deadline people were saying take 7-8million for Naismith. I mentioned that I wouldn't take it and that we would be glad of him come injuries and suspensions. How true that came to be. No doubt people will slowly start slating Naismith if he doesn't keep up the performances.

Anyway back to one concern. Injuries, is it me or do Everton have the worst track record for injuries, especially hamstring. Surely there has to be a reason for this. I seen on a website that had all the premiership teams injury lists. Guess who had the most? Yep Everton with 8. Is it just to do with the players we have? Or that players are rushed back playing too quickly? An incompetent back room physiotherapy and doctor team?

I don't have all the answers but there has to be some reason Everton seem to be among the worst injury lists in the league. If Coleman is out for awhile right back is a concern. I know Stones can play there but I'd hate to take him away from centre back where he's doing so well.

The second concern is very minor and the injuries is the only thing I really like to see improving at Everton at the moment. The second thing is the fixtures in October. It's going to be tough. Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal. If we play like yesterday we could beat all 3. On our day we certainly could. After October I would expect Everton to pick up a lot of points and climb the table.

On this site I have praised Moyes and said I haven't made up my mind on Martinez yet. That is still the case. I'm not going to get carried away with yesterdays result its a long season but I have to hand one thing to Martinez. He has a very good exciting squad at the moment.

I am full of optimism and genuine excitement with what this squad could achieve. If they don't bring glory I think there's not that many more players needed to bring silverware.

As I said I'm not getting carried away and will make up my mind about Martinez at the end of the season. But one thing I think is for certain things is as exciting a squad as Everton have had in a long time.

Don't know why people would even consider slating Naisey he was one of our standout players last season, okay he isn't an out and out striker, but he is a very intelligent player who causes loads of problems to the opposition defense and scores some very important goals. What more can you ask for.

NBTB, I agree with you about Cowpat, always provides a good read. We do have lots of injuries and always have done, and is a bit strange. But, I think we the squad we have, which is actually quite big considering we have no European football and I think we are prepared for injuries.

My thoughts exactly sa90 but people do give out about him. Someone mentioned on here around the transfer deadline that some so called Everton supporters were putting him down on twitter and other social media sites.

Probably the same people who are mad for any player with a foreign name to sign for us. My above post referred to what I think these people will do as soon as Naismith has a mediocre game. Start talking about how he was signed on a free and bla, bla, bla. Always worked his socks off. If every player worked as hard we'd be a lot better off.

These aren't new ideas, but here are some thoughts about what might improve football.
1. The Premier League summer transfer window should close before the Premier League season starts.
2. The winter transfer window should coincide with a Premier League winter break - say two weeks in early January. (In reality, deals are clearly being discussed/arranged by agents, etc., all the time - it's just the actual registration of players that's officially restricted to the transfer windows.)
3. Video replays - monitored by the fourth official - should be used for improving close decisions, especially offsides, but not everything. Don't think that a decision review system like cricket (where the players request individual reviews) would be good though.
4. Referees should consistently penalise the blatant holding in the penalty area at corners and free-kicks.
5. Referees should consistently penalise players showing dissent, especially if the players use foul and abusive language.
6. Referees should speak to the media afte matches about decisions. That's not to hang them out to dry, but to give some clarity and honesty.
7. The Premier League U-21 (essentially reserve) teams should have a more competitive league to play in. I like the idea of "B" teams playing in lower-tier football, but I can understand that other teams (current League 1, League 2, etc.) don't want this although the "B" teams wouldn't be able to be promoted above a certain tier and the other teams could still be successful and get to the Championship and the Premier League.
8. Similar to the League Cup, the FA Cup should abolish replays.
9. Finally - and I'm in two minds about this one - FA Cup semi-finals should not be at Wembley, but at other neutral venues.
So, any views from my fellow posters?
:-)

Sid agree with all you say. Also think that by having B teams in the lower leagues would generate additional revenue for the lower league teams. Agree could not have promotion though, money boys would just aim to have two of their teams in the Prem. Semis will always be played at Wembley as it generates the most money for the FA, who basically don't give a toss history or tradition.
By the way, thinking like that means you have no chance of ever getting a job with the FA mate.

I'm so happy with most things yesterday but I felt so sorry for Besic. He genuinely wants to be on that pitch but I've got a bad feeling about his leg.

This seems to be a reoccurring issue with him and I wonder if he has had these type of injuries before. Someone also needs to tell him to not punch the hell out of it as well.

Colemans looked a bad one as well and again a hamstring. Fingers crossed they're ok.

Besic was clearly and totally frustrated by getting injured when he must have been relishing the opportunity to perform in our first team against last season's champions.
What is it with our players and hamstring injuries? I don't know the actual statistics, but we do seem to have more hamstring injuries (or a higher proportion of our injuries that are hamstring) than other clubs.

That was a humiliating loss and magnificent win by our boys today. One question I have to ask. Mirallas sitting on the bench, I'm sure the lad would be getting very agitated, because he is a very talented player and the fact Lennon went on before him would agitate him even more. When Naismith scored his 3rd goal and it might just be me, when the camera panned to Martinez, Mirallas in the background had the look of someone who was thinking do I want to be here. What do you guys think?

I'd be fuming if I was Mirallas then I would calm down a little and think why?

I'd have a little look at the match yesterday and then a lightbulb would go on above my head!

Become a team player. don't look to get an angle to shoot but look at the bigger picture.

I like the lad but every player on the pitch yesterday played for each other. Mirallas can do it, just not enough.

Just had a look over the fence onto our neighbours page and blimey that lot can moan. I thought we were a bunch of moaning old so and so but they take the biscuit. Anyways enough of that now I have to get back to singing the blues. Really hope when the derby comes around we actually go at them and look to win the game rather than playing not to lose like we have done in the past.
