Everton's biggest signing this summer should be James McCarthy anything less will be a disaster we have a spine of a team Howard stones McCarthy and big rom we just need players around them signings like delboy will only be good but 1st take care of one of better players future captain of our club.

Mc Carthy is overrated can't pass the ball and if Everton get £25m for him flog him. Same goes for Coleman way overrated.

And the award for the least knowledgable Everton fan of all time goes to you, Mondo!

McCarthy is agruably the most underrated player in the league. Completely agree with the original poster, I would rather we sign only McCarthy to a new contract, than sign 10 new players and lose him.

I hope this Delboy rumour isn't bull, seems strange the way nothing said yet from club, could be a rumour gone a bit wild

A lot of reliable sources reporting it and wouldn't say its strange not to have heard anything from the club, they're always quiet, one time they weren't was Leroy fer and that backfired, fully expect them not to release any information until a player is fully confirmed and contract signed

Your right Blue D, i'm normally super positive but scared to get hopes up now, TS just confirmed it this morning too.

I'll be happy if Ged Def signs as is being reported. Plus a bargain £3mil quid is not a bad deal at all. It can't stop there though. We do need another forward and a centre back.

I'd take Padolski as a cheap option and he might make a good foil for Lukaku.

Excited by del signing we should still have good funds could be a good window slightly worried about losing stones McCarthy take huge money for us to sell looks good so far

I was going to make a new post but i'll do it in reply to you instead. I just don't get all this Gerry euphoria going on, and it seems i'm in the minority. What did he do for us last time and what has he done since? With us he showed great pace and could run rings around people, going nowhere mind, refusing to pass and when a cross came in it was a blind one to no one, scored 2 decent goals and was injured for most of the season. Well it seems nothing changed on loan at Seville according to their Manager. In comparison to Lennon well there isn't one, he can break with pace, a great out ball, he scores for us, he passes and is a team player doing his fair share in covering and backtracking. I know who i'd prefer of the two! and before ya say his age and potential, well i'm sick of hearing that about Everton players, most move out on loan, get sold or we never hear of them again. Its time we won somat and its not going to happen while we keep doing the potential stuff all the time, it hasn't won us anything up to now has it?

Harsh but fair Howie. I must admit I wasn't overly impressed with good either when we had him on loan. Bags of potential but mainly failed to deliver. I'd love to be proved wrong but he's far from the finished article. Can't help but think Barca are hoping we'll develop him for them then take him back if he makes the grade.

Made that point before about Gerry, I'm with you Howie, I wasn't overly impressed by him either. Decent player but not as good as what people are making him out to be

I am with you on that howie can't see what the fuss is about. Apart from the goal at Arsenal he flatters to deceive .

Lennon, has one foot uses the other to stand on. Good crosser of a ball? No Mickey Thomas was a great crosser of a ball. Fast, yes but not a dribbler. Del Boy who knows. Certainly has the skill (you don't get near Barca if you dont), has he got the right attitude, we will have to wait and see. All I know is we are lacking a player who when he gets the ball there is a sense of anticipation in the crowd. I believe Del could be that player. And we may yet end up with Lennon on the other wing, now that would make an interesting combination.

Gerry with Baines will never work. Baines will be left upfield waiting on a pass, Gerry loses it n were wideopen!!

Cant win no matter who we're after can we? Getting Deulofeu doesn't rule out a move for Lennon anyway, and if the fee spoke about is correct you'll struggle to find a better winger for that price. Plus he's got time on his side he has a lot to learn about teamwork but that'll come in time its not the end of the world either, we needed someone a little bit greedy last season to take it to teams and get shots off instead of all of this pointless passing across opposition boxes. Personally be happy if we get him he's an upgrade on McGeady and Pienaar looks past his best.

On the "potential" subject, yes it can be annoying but as a club that's the point we're at we don't have all the money, big stadium or CL football to attract the "big" names, until we get investment or get bought we have to deal with these signings which aren't exactly bad players anyway, if the likes of Deulofeu/Lukaku/Stones live up to their potential we'll have some of the best players in the league that includes Barkley as well, we all just need to be patient there's going to be ups and downs, we don't need to get on their backs for the slightest things when we've seen what they are capable of, just get behind them! going to stop now fingers are starting to hurt :D

Howie, plenty did change last season. He scored 3 goals and got 9 assists. that's one more goal and 7 more assists than Lennon.

He's young and got more ability plus he is half the price. Lennon doesn't have an end product most games and for me is closer to McGeady. I do like his work rate though and at 6 mil i'd take him and not loan a player.

It would also leave funds for a striker as well.

Are you lot being serious we had a 19 year old more positive than the whole of last year, i'd rather go watch a player who thinks he can't beat allayed than one stops loke back and gives it to Howard to hoff up, how easily poeple forget thAt tripe from last season

I agree with Howie on this. As much as I will welcome him back to the club, the hype that he generated wasn't really warranted. Potential is the right word. No doubt he is an exciting player when he has got his head on it but, bar a few games in his first spell, he didn't set the world alight like some seem to remember. After reading a few things his last manager has said, it seems good needs to knuckle down and sort his attitude. If he becomes more of a team player then he will be a bargain at that price. It's definitely worth a gamble though

The only thing I agree with there is your enthusiasm in getting rid of McGeady, so much so that you've named him twice in your 'get rid' section
