Sorry Jipster but you now need to re register as some one else because if anyone on here believes that you are friends with every clubs doctor they need a brain transplant from one of your mates. The truth is if Barkley is back before Xmas he's done well and anyone who has followed football for the past 10 years has seen this before.
We can cope with him not playing though, attacking mid, we have players although not as good, can do a job, there were times last season he was out and we coped. What we do need is a forward to play with or replace Lukaku, and serious cover at right back so if one of your doctor mates has treated any lately tell him to give the club a shout

Its been a pretty poor weekend all in all. First the news broke about barkleys injury then a disapointing draw at leicester, although an away point is never a bad one. Apart from utd ( ha ha ) all the top 7 have won so far apart from us with chelsea yet to play and city in the process of beating newcastle. But you know what having watched it all mostly highlights admittedly I really believe we can match and beat them all. Yes we need a bigger squad this season with more games to play but in terms of top 4 were right in the mix. let's get rom super kev and seamus firing on all cylenders and see what besic and atsu can add. I suddenly feel really confident again.

We've had one game lads, and if in my personal opinion we had had a better preseason and I mean played local teams and played your starting 11 for at least your last 2 but for me 3 games so you don't make stupid mistakes in defence on your opening game we would of strolled yesterday's game but we didn't so let's sort it out at finch farm this week and get stuck into the arse on Saturday

as we get closer to the end of this transfer window. Who if anyone do you think might leave us, barring all stupid offer coming in I can only see Gibson and Joel with a chance of going

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i cant see anyone going BOTN..

If RM was going to replace Robles, it would have already happened imho, but it looks like he's Howard's backup until one of the younger keepers (most likely to be Stanek) is deemed to be ready.

So does anyone actually know how good this Henen is and where he plays? All I keep seeing is he's the next to also but if zits just is interested in him I can't see him being anywhere near that good. Anyone have any info on him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I meant next Ronaldo

Agree0 Disagree0

It does seem unusual that such a supposedly hot prospect hasn't had a lot more interest reported in the media (no matter how unreliable the papers and news websites usually are!) and it seems that only us - and Arsenal I believe - have had any interest. It makes me wonder if it's all part of an elaborate wind-up like that player (Weah?) who Souness almost took when he was, I seem to recall, Southampton manager. Of course it isn't - Henen is a genuine player - but I'm surprised there haven't been more situations like the Weah one ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Lmao sid, it does seen a strange one I mean if he's that good where's the interest from all the other top teams? I think will sign him he'll go out on loan till he's twenty 1 then leave for a nominal fee, call me a pessimist

Agree0 Disagree0

Ryan, a player playing in scotland for dundee united is hot prospect (the next *insert name messi, ronaldo, cruyff) called Ryan Gauld. It seems nobody has purchased him either. The interest and purchase is down to how much promise the player shows and whether the club involved think he's worth a punt. Top clubs either can't be bothered developing youngsters (chelsea) and will buy sucess, or want to buy a more finished product (lukaku). Everton on the other hand can not usually afford either a fee of a finished product or a top end almost finished product so look at the likes of henin.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ryan Gauld has joined Sporting Lisbon for £3 million and has a 60 million Euros (£48 million) buy-out clause in his contract.}

Now that Barkleys out why not play Pienaar in that no 10 role for the time being?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because a fully functioning and on form Bainnar is our most potent weapon and Naismith has been excellent when playing behind the striker

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that the Pienaar is best as part of the left-side partnership with Baines.
I also agree that Naismith does well playing behind the main striker.
I'm not sure yet if Mirallas or Atsu would enjoy playing in the number 10 role instead of playing as out-and-out wingers.
I do believe that Osman could play in the number 10 role, but there clearly are limitations.
Maybe Besic could bring something different to the number 10 role in the absence of Barkley?
Decisive, aren't I? ;-)
I'll just leave it, as always, to RM. To find a successful solution.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2014 17:24:51
I was surprised when neither Besic or Atsu came on in tbe second half, especially when Barry was lucky to stay on . I thought either of them could have put fresh ideas for attack rather than depend on holding onto a one goal lead

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2014 21:04:24
Totally agree Dave882, couldn't understand why Besic and Atsu weren't introduced as impact players with fresh legs.
Roberto said in post match we should have gone for more goals but brings Coleman on probably to bolster right side of defence?

Agree0 Disagree0

As a result of Ross' unfortunate injury last Friday, maybe this is the opportunity for Mo Besic to step up. With two massive games against Arsenal and Chelsea to come at Goodison, Besic is the man to steal the occasion and shine in front of the cameras. I hope for his sake that Roberto gives him his chance.

Ed how much money is there left mate? Is there still some activity to be done?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - if bobby wants a player the funds are there..its up to him roy..

I don't doubt there's some money available for more transfers if required by RM, but I'd be concerned about how much more we can increase our annual wage bill under the Premier League regulations. We've only released a handful of fringe players this transfer window, so they surely won't have reduced the wage bill by much. So far in RM's tenure, we've brought in several players and made some loans permanent and given extended contracts to a few players - although I accept that moving out Fellaini, Heitinga and Jelavic last season would have reduced the wage bill.
Do any of you have any informed realistic idea about how much the players' annual wage bill is and how much more we can increase it this season?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sid - you can spend as much as you want on wages and on transfers, the kicker is that it has to be within the money you as a club have generated from football related revenue.
Put simply (the amount of money you lose is actually not so important) if we had a turnover of 80 million last season that's what we have to play with, the fact that tv money has gone up by about 30 million means we have about 30 million extra to play with.
About 90% of our costs has been on players wages for the last 5 years or so.
Speaking of reducing the wage bill with the players that left do not think for one minute that Roberto is on the same ludicrous money Moyes was on. Moyes had a rule where he had to be the highest paid at the club so him going would reduce the cost by about 30k a week.
FFP is not fair, it actually allows big clubs to get bigger because they will always generate more money through football related revenues (gate receipts, sponsorship, shirt sales etc) so will always be able to spend more.

Are these 'Barkley out for 5 months true or dramatic journalism that's basically fictional?
RM says scan is 'inconclusive' so until we know the extent of damage let's have a, 'glass half full' mentality!
(Would still like an explanation from the club how this happened though).

from my understanding, it is a medial ligament injury. Until the swelling goes down sufficiently, we can only guess at the severity and, therefore, the amount of time he will be out for. If it's not too bad a tear, for example, then the time he spends in the treatment room will be up to approx 8 weeks. If it's worse than first feared then the longer recuperation time could keep him out til the new year. It happened, according to RM, in an innocuous challenge in training

Agree0 Disagree0

The media - driven, I have to say, to a very large extent by our insatiable appetite for any and all information (aka gossip and rumours) - demand instant answers (accurate or speculative or just plain false!) to fill their newspaper columns & websites. They will almost always publish the initial reactions and speculations about situations (such as Barkley's injury), often without considering the accuracy, just in order to create a sensationalist headline.
As RM has indicated, it'll take a little more time for the extent of the injury to become clearer and for a better estimate of the likely recovery time
May I suggest that we listen to what RM actually says in his video-recorded interviews or on the official website and not just blithely believe what appears in the other media.

http://evertonrumours.co.uk/formations/Swan.php

Hit them on the break, allowing aiden, kev and rom to tear mertesacker apart, get pienaar dropping back and playing the ball through open spaces, allowing plenty of one on ones against monreal, debuchy and mertesacker, use roms physique to hold off the not so powerful febuchy, monreal or if he plays, chambers, thus allowing lay offs and create space ahead of runners

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I fear that the pace that Arsenal have in their side (e.g. Alexis Sanchez) will expose our defensive frailties.
I also fear that other teams have now learned how to deal with our possession game and our playing out of defence by pressing us high up the pitch.
I also fear that Wenger won't set up his team to be blown away by us like they were at Goodison last season.
I also feel that when we play Chelsea a week later that Mourinho won't let us off the hook like they did (let's be honest) did at Goodison last season.
So, I reckon that it'll take a few more matches - and until the end of the transfer window - for RM to sort us out like he did last season.

Hey guys, since Barkley is out for between 7 weeks and 5 months, who would your preferred replacement (albeit only for five months or so at max) until his return? I wouldn't mind Holtby, Kagawa, Firmino (if we could afford him) or maybe even Ki from Swansea.

Silva, mata, iniesta and hang on a minute, realistically? Oh but I was having so much fun!, ki is a class player imo, ran the game at goodison last season, played well whenever I have seen him, i'm a fan of ramirez at southampton, grenier at lyon who the barcodes have been linked with is boss, all unlikely, how about riquelme?

Agree0 Disagree0

How are holtby and kagawa unrealistic both unwanted by their clubs, Firmino would probably come to us wether we could afford him is another story

Just taking a little break from today's match, I've seen an interview that moyes has done for a paper tomorrow. Although his bids for felli&baines were insulting (until the end) he was still a great manager for us and the way hr was treated by united was some of the most disrespectful things I have ever seen in football, he found out he was sacked via social media, later on SAF phoned him to shortly inform him of the decision and then ignored his calls, he saw the plane over the stadium insulting him, he turned to the man next to him and said "they should have given the money to fletchers charity" he wasn't properly backed by the board etc and I for one hope he goes to another club and sticks 2 fingers up at the "united hierarchy" horrible club that go about their business in an awful manner and try to bully other people into doing it their way and can't stand when someone stands up to them.
In other news although we drew today, which I thought we would you have to take positives, pienaar looked very good as did a number of others, but they were a very disciplined team that shut us down very well but we scored 2 very very good goals, whereas theirs both had strong elements of luck about them, anyway, I'm sure bobby has it sorted, onwards and upwards blues! Can't wait for that first Thursday night under the lights! Goodison will be rocking! See you then blues!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i dont do sympathy D, moyes thought the grass was greener, and got it right up the jaxi, we had a bit of bad luck today mate, but that happens..

A thought on DM - and football managers in general.
A club's spending power - on transfers and on wages - generally equates to where they'll finish in the league table compared to other clubs' spending power. Having better players (they're usually the most expensive ones) generally makes a team more successful.
So, the above is pretty obvious.
In, addition the players have to be motivated to perform. That could be out of fear or out of respect or belief in what the manager is doing. On all those counts, it was clear that DM fell short at ManUtd.
Also, opposition teams obviously scout other teams/players and plan how to deal tactically with them and nullify them. Teams will obviously have a tactical setup to exploit their strengths over the opposition weaknesses. If both teams successfully stuck to their manager's tactical instructions, a match would probably end up as a 0-0 stalemate.
I reckon it's often mistakes (a misplaced pass, or being caught in possession, or not staying in formation) or an unexpected bit of play (outside the manager's tactical constraints) that lead to goals - just as much as a great bit of tactically pre-planned play.
DM seemed to have set tactical ways and didn't trust players to try something outside his instructions. He jut relied on better players being more able to deliver what he wanted. But if they don't believe in the manager and don't trust his tactical instructions and, as a result, have low confidence (individually and as a team), then clearly they'll not perform well and results will falter.
As a player, you're risking mistakes (and the manger's wrath!) by trying something outside the manager's tactical instructions, but the best players should be able to do so and quickly recover and deal with any mistakes. Doing the unexpected on the pitch can be very fruitful - especially if a player has the talent to do something remarkable.
Bottom line imho is that a team/squad must believe in the manager and once that belief begins to go then the end is nigh. Which is clearly what happened to DM.

Did anyone else think we looked knackered in the last 20 mins today. I think it was McCarthy who lost control of the ball in their half which lead to their 2nd goal and made no effort to track back seemingly due to the fact he looked absolutely shattered. The body language of the majority of the team seemed to me that they were dead on their feet.I understand its the first game etc but surely fitness levels should be able to cope with a full 90mins. It just seemed that for the last 20mins we were going through the motions and praying for the whistle IMO.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - bit harsh that duncan imo, it was a spawny goal that deprived us of the win, it happens mate..

It was not McCarthy it was Mirallas and he was only a few mins, tried to beat a player out wide in there half and when the ball was taken off him he stood there looking for a free

Agree0 Disagree0

They shouldn't of had a corner for the first goal because a fowl on jags and both goals were quick clearances that landed to there feet, although both teams didn't exactly create many clear cut chances they didn't really look like scoring at all which is a shame
