Ed025, don't know if you're interested but Bob Latchford is doing a book signing session to promote his new book at Waterstones in town, 12:30 on Saturday 26th September.
I know he's one of your favourite all time players, maybe get Mrs Ed025 to get you an early chrimbo pressy?

Might see you there then Ed, seeing as how the West Brom game's been moved to the Monday. In the best Ealing tradition I'll be the one wearing a blue carnation.

Bob was my hero during that period bloody Gordon Lee stuffed him about. Bob is /was a great guy off the field did a lot of work with disadvantaged kids that went unpublicised.

Martinez has confirmed Leandro Rodriguez and David Henen are close to playing for the first team. Jags making his 300th appearance? Time flies, he's been an absolute rock for us and, I will get stick for this, for me, in terms of out and out defending he is world class. I know he doesn't grab the headlines with lots of goals or controversy, but I mean in terms of defending I think he's as good as anyone in the league. Been a brilliant buy and a great servant.

Totally agree Swan, made me laugh a few weeks ago the Chelski fans saying that Stones should move so that he can learn from Terry, for me he is far better off watching Jags, fair enough Terry has been an excellent defender but the word "has" needs to be taken here, also not exactly the greatest role model for anyone is he. Stones will do well watching Jags mate

Couldn't agree more lads, Jags has been the model professional and perfect role model for both the club and up and coming youngsters. He is so understated its unbelievable, but you know what, I'd far rather have that than getting the headlines for the wrong reasons like that rat Terry who doesn't seem to have an ounce of remorse or compassion in him.
I remember when we signed Jags, were on holiday and had got friendly with a family from Sheffield who were all staunch Blades fans, they were close to tears when I broke the news to them, such was the esteem he was held in.

Good post Swan, Jags has been one of them unsung players for club and country. We can always rely on him putting his body on the line, a great role model for the likes of Stones, Galloway, Browning and Pennington.

Where do people see Deulofeu at his peak? For me he is all about raw pace and talent then getting the ball across the box. Do people still think he will be doing that at 26, 27 or 28?. Or do we see him as a left winger cutting in and running in to the box on those amazing runs he does?.

Where do people see Barkley at his peak? I will eat humble pie and admit his decision making has improved, he is taking less touches of the ball and is shielding the ball better. Some say he should be played deep and carry the ball, others saying we no longer need a number 10 as Barkley is doing that role at the moment?.

Where do people see Besic at his peak? I get the feeling he can replace Barry and play that role as his passing and positioning in Midfield is top notch. But he has pace and is full of energy so I don't know. Do we use his energy while he is still developing and ease him in to a more holding midfield role?.

Just wanted peoples thoughts to start a discussion.

Will probably get slaughtered for this, but I see Delofeu as a mini Messi, and not an out and out winger. Actually think he could be a good number 10 given the freedom to play. Barkley for me looks better in the deeper role where he can run with the ball. Agree he is using it better, and believe he has the strength and character to control centre midfield. Besic got to be him and Macca in the future playing the holding role. Will then give the other two licence to cause havoc going forward. A strong defence always breeds confidence in the team.
Team for the future:
Goalkeeper: really not sure.
L/B : Galloway/Garbutt
R/B: Coleman
C/D: Stones (wishing)
C/D: Mori
D/M:McCarthy
D/M: Besic
A/M: Delofeu
A/M: Barkley
A/M: Cleverly
C/F: Rodriguez
I know I've missed a few out, but it's just my thoughts for the team of say two to three years time.

Wob's I agree with Del Boy as number 10, just never had the balls to say it first lol, he would be lively there

Pace won't be a problem as they get a bit older and it causes defences so many problems, he would fit well in a 433 set up one side of a central striker, I believe this would also suit mirallas, both are more than just wingers.
Barkley must continue to improve his decision making and learn to tackle, he's a big lad and should at times show more strength on the ball.
Besic has great heart and boundless enthusiasm, but can be over aggressive and make rash tackles, but I agree he can be Barry's replacement long term, he needs a good run in the side.

Woburn no Lukaku?

Id play 442 diamond attacking.
same back four McCarthy holding Besic and Del out wide with Ross at the top Rom and Rodriguez upfront.

For a more defensive match 451 drop a striker and bring in Cleverly out wide and move Del behind the striker with Ross.

As with everyone else not sure about the keeper

I would go with back 4 stated, then mca besic, kev, Lennon wide, del ross am, rom.

I think this would scare most teams, solid defence, and going forward so many options, goal scorers. Exciting team for me

Well that wasn't to bad. SA your right totally forgot about Rom. Suppose I was just trying to highlight what we could have as a side in the next couple of years.
