I really don't see why we would need to sell Stones now or in the future. To be honest, Chelsea are not a bigger club, they may be considerably richer, but they never have been and never will be a bigger club. They will also never conduct themselves in the dignified manner that befits a big club such as ourselves.
John Stones is obviously happy here. He became a regular member of the England squad whilst an Everton player and will become a cornerstone of the England side if he remains an Everton player.
If the manager sees him as pivotal to his plans, then he must be allowed to stay regardless of the figures offered by Chelsea. Given the way that Chelsea have conducted themselves I feel that this has now become a matter of principle and unless the player requests a move then he should remain here. After all, there is no reason why he should not be able to fulfill his ambitions at his current " big club ".

{Ed025's Note - good post that SB..

Chelsea have luckily got an owner who has taken them into a new era of football where as money talks. When you say they are not a big club, I would say not a big history in terms of trophies but they are certainly a top club not only in England but in European football. Chelsea have also been challenging for major trophies over the last 15 years where as Everton have been happy to be a top ten team. So after saying that I would say Chelsea are a more attractive club for players who want to play at the highest level of club football with a very good chance of winning trophies. So in saying this you have to make your history somewhere and Chelsea are doing that now.

As much as it hurts to say where no were near a big club in this modern era, no champs league ever, 1 cup, tiny budget and a stadium well past its sell by date.
I don't get why poeple get so defensive when it comes to their own club, its better to be realistic than so irate, every players for sale every club will sell at the right price it happens with us an happens with non league teams right the way up 2 barca

Like all pundits and journalists, whether or not we like them and whether or not we like what they say/write, they're entitled to express an opinion - that's what they're paid for I guess!
The same goes imho about whoever posts on here. I might disagree with what's posted, but their right to express an opinion (without being obscene or bigoted or overly offensive) is sacrosanct.
What gets me is that the pundits and journalists don't seem to be held to account if their predictions are proved wrong. It's no excuse in my book for them to claim they're just reporting what's being talked about in football - that's a feeble excuse.
It's said football is a results business - and managers, coaches, players, etc., are sacked if they don't perform - but the pundits seem bullet-proof. Here's a question for my fellow posters: who is your favourite pundit on telly and who is your favourite football journalist? Conversely, who are the ones you don't like?

Sid coming from Ireland we have a few pundits of our own over here. Youtube Eamon dunphy and look at some of the things he says. Talks through his backside a lot but he isn't afraid to call it as it is. Was taken off air before for going on drunk, had to apologise for sayin f**k someone when he didn't realise he was back on air.he has some good debates with didi hamann and Graeme souness as well.well worth checking him out.

If they come in with 4th offer I bet it won't be a 5 million jump this time, they will be back with 40 million as they know we would reject 35, if they got rejected again they would be a laughing stock

19 Aug 2015 11:04:11
Would also be a statement of intent from the club that they cannot be bullied into selling whatever the fee or underhand tactics Chelsea have used.

The more I think about it do we really need to be spending big money on a cb? As long as we keep stones I think we'll be ok. Galloway and browning are sufficient cover now for me. Possibly Ron vlar on a free would be a good option to boost numbers? Either way I'd much rather we spent what ever money we have on getting a deal done for yarmolenko I really rate this lad and can see him slotting straight in. If we managed to pull this one off imagine the boost it would give everybody!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

18 Aug 2015 22:17:20
We definitely need a centre back, Galloway has played 3 games at left back at browning has played less than 90 mins overall. Yes they both look promising but to trust them as rotation/ cover without adding another would be naive imo

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 23:01:05
Maybe but money better spent elsewhere in my opinion and I really do think Galloway is at the same level stones was at at this point last season. Like I say Ron vlaar on a free makes perfect sence to me

Stones has told his agent he wanted a move to Chelski but has now changed his mind as he doesn't fancy playing in the Championship next season.

Not a fan of either but Talksport and ssn both making noises about the Yarmalenko to Everton possible transfer - surely it must have some legs for it to be circulated? Would love it to happen but just can't see it

Josè says all everton need to do is say stones is not for sale and then we won't bid again it's that simple!?! Haven't we said he's not for sale and yet they still put in another bid? I hope he gets scrot rot!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Martinez said quite clearly 'Stones is not for sale and that is the end of the matter'

18 Aug 2015 11:51:15
For the record I think Stones is quality, and is a potential future England captain, that saying, I think if we get anywhere near 40million we should take it! As good as Stones is he is only a CB and half his price is due his amazing potential and because he's English (always pushes the price up jus look at Sterling). Realisticly how much can his price go up any more this season without European football or an international competition??

Now in saying all that I would only sell at 40 million provided the cash doesn't end up with the Arteta money!

I love how everyone says it's disrespectful to talk about a player from other clubs, really saw an article from Karen Brady sticking her nose in, concentrate on your own club and she should be more worried about playing in a half empty stadium soon, it's wrong clubs or players Cahill and terry should get fined for talking about him in that way, we kept our mouths shut when we bought lukaku as we respect other players and clubs

Believable3 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2015 12:51:43
Spot on True. I read that article and was thinking exactly the same. West Ham do my head in. You here more from their owners than you do from the manager. Proper grips my throat when I here stuff like that

Just now logged onto the ssn pages and it popped up straight away, Everton reject 3rd bid from Chelsea for Stones, £30 million

I friggin love this club, that's great news and will give everyone a gee up, not that we need one after the weekend.

Feeling better every day, Yarmalenko next

Look it's never nice when you lose you best players but we got better with the money from Rooney and as long as we invest the money in the squad take the money. End If the day know one knows how stones will develop in the future .buy two CB yamolenko and a striker. (Zlatan) is available lol .but seriously until we have a new investor with billions we have to balance our clubs books.I'd lice a new stadium and challenging for titles but let's face it unless you are billionaires you don't get that chance anymore.COYB

if stones is sold for 40 mil and it's all reinvested in the team would that soften the blow of losing him

Believable2 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2015 11:21:08
I think we would sell for 35 million Bill, I know it's hard to take but my head would take that as long as we got to invest the lot, he is a great prospect and that's great money for a prospect, my heart says keep him as we must have money to spend anyway, only thing is he would become unsettled as we couldn't afford to pay him top wages, he is going eventually so its a gamble, keep him and hope he progresses then sell next season, bit of a gamble for our club that, or sell and invest now.

Takes me back to Rodwell, great prospect but we all know that story, there have been a number of players like that throughout every team, it's a gamble but looking at the lad and how cool and calm he is, also the 3 big spenders will all need a young CB by the beginning of next season, I say sod them all and let's get 50 million for him next season (hopefully)

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 12:43:35
I can see where your coming from murf but what sort of message does it send to the rest of the squad when we sell our best players! Not to mention the message that it sends to the rest of the premier league it tells every one even when Everton players aren't for sale u can get them anyway because they are only a small club. Keep him no matter what for now then if we do decide to sell one day do it on our own terms

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 13:35:32
murf I'd be OK with that keep him this season sell him for 50 mil and overhaul our squad as we know every player has their price

Stones is off to Chelsea according to the papers. Who all have knowledge everton have privately accepted the bid :-/ hahahaha Is there a media member on our board? I hope he doesn't go so it will be like the Mirrallas, Baines, Coleman, McCarthy situation. Baines and Coleman were both desperate to go utd and have stayed. Stones has a 5 year deal he isn't for sale simple as that. Now flump off under your rock Jose you wet lettuce!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2015 11:24:26
Our board will look a bit daft now if they sell him, it would probably soften the blow if it was a record fee as they could say impossible to turn down, only thing for me would be that would we actually spend the fee on players or would we sell for 35 and get a replacement for 15

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 11:44:53
According to papers he was sold 2 months ago our position has been the same for that time turning down 3 bids and saying he is not for sale now that does not mean he can't be bought all we are saying is he is not on transfer list so therefore he is not for sale simples

Rumours of Williams as a replacement for Stones! Big no no for me!
We have signed Holgate and although I rate him I feel he is more the successor for Jags in the future.
Right now we need to keep Stones and keep him long term as he is pure class and £30 to £40 million now is just thinking short term as the boy has over ten years as an Everton captain! We need to add at least either Van Dijk or Koulibaly was a challenger to the starting CB's and bring in Yarmolenko.
That for me would be a good basis for a top 4 challenge if we keep everyone fit

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2015 08:30:41
I said it yesterday and will repeat my post but if John Stones is allegedly worth £35m then we could not afford to buy him, that's more than our record signing Lukaku who was £28m, would you want to sell him and buy say Troy Deeney? then why sell a player of Stones quality only to replace with lesser players, and we are accusing the board of no ambition? then some posters on here need to take a look closer at home if that's what they see as good business.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2015 03:12:10
I don't want to see us sell John Stones, but, if we are going to give way and do it, then his price shold at least match that of sterling. So, we tell the translator, 50m, cash up front, or . off.

18 Aug 2015 07:40:04
Embarassing reading? I think these are all fair comments. We should only let the lad go for stupid money if not don't let him! Look at the way levy handles his business at Spurs does any one really think Gareth bale is worth even 50 mil? No but levy said 85 mil or look else where and he meant it. Not only does that mean they got a crazy sum of money but it also means every manager or chairman of the so called big clubs know they will not be able to just take players off Spurs when ever they wish to do so. I would like Everton to have the same reputation

Just interested to see some other opinions, if we could have one of Austin and Berahino who would you pick. Personally I would have Berahino because he is fast like Rom, maybe faster and that has proven lukaku's best asset for us. Given that I feel he would fit our playing style better. Anyone else?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2015 11:45:35
Would depend on how much both for? Austin has had a good season in prem and I think berahino is still potential and more of a gamble.

Berahino would cost 10m more and isn't an out and out striker. Austin for me.
