Hi Ed002. Quick questiin for you. Your knowledge on what happens behind the scenes is amazing especially when it comes to transfers. But does a transfer ever go ahead that you thought to yourself "i didn't see that one coming" or you weren't aware of it happening. This isn't meant in disrespect i am just curious because you seem to be clued in on prettyt much everything.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Sure. I am not really able to predict transfers, but I know sufficient folks to be able to say where I understand there has been interest in players. As such there are plenty of transfers that I know nothing of.}

Id love a post where you detail how you got in to all this, Ed, but understand that it might be too private to disclose!

{Ed002's Note - That is pretty easy - I didn't know the Everton supporters needed help understanding this, but here goes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Y-stLKT9o }

Anyone getting a connection to the live stream from the Bury pre-season friendly?
The Everton website server appears to be down.
Every pre-season the club screws up these broadcasts!
What a tin-pot outfit we really are!

worked perfect so far for me lads, some nice play bury are defensively sound 10 men behind the ball and we got done on a set piece, sandro isn't for the English game boy goes down off a brisk wind it's pathetic mirralas looks like he actually wants to play for us again, quiet going forward really, get lookman on he will run this bury team ragged.

18 Jul 2018 20:45:49
Shouldn't worry about it, we are currently 1-0 down. Keane and Schneiderlin so far as bad as last season. On the other hand we have missed a hatful of chances. It still looks to me that our priorities are the same as last season. A decent CB, LB, DM (with creativity) and a frontman to complement Tosun. Pre-season and all that so not to worried.

Johny1989, watching the same as me, wonder why he hasn't put Lookman on. Could be right about Sandro, just look at that shot he just had, think he was aiming for Bury Market.

Not bad at all. Robinson so far looks really good. I'm really happy to have him as deputy to Baines.

Niasse is the flukiest player I have ever seen in my entire life. EVER.

Also just to add again Robinson is outstanding. It's bury and you take a friendly with a pinch of salt but he's got pace, brave with and without the ball and he's very comfortable with it.

The football though is so much better.

better second half and a quick shout to cuco who looks inspired as a winger haha.

I didnā€™t realise Neil Danns was at bury until we played them today. I remember watching him at Palace years ago and thinking he looked a quality player.

Good job I donā€™t buy the players for Everton.

19 Jul 2018 19:12:01
bluejohnus fluky or not you have to be in the right place at the right time and despite all the criticism the lad (Niasse) is always there and most of the time makes things happen. It is not making chances that cause Teams to fail.

The trials and tribulations of an Everton supporter.

I stupidly watched an online clip of Malcolm before going to bed last night. What a fantastic player.

Then my brain started spinning the various options.

What a team we could be with him. Finally winning something again.

Don't be daft, we have him a couple of years and then he be sold

Yes but for 2/ 3 or 4 times the price.

What about Lookman, I don't want to lose him, but what an upgrade.

Listen to yourself you low Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea + the rest are going to come in up the price and that will be the end of it.

No sleep for me last night.

Roll on August 9th.

Then the various options played in my head.
He would make us such a better side. We could actually achieve something win a trophy.
Don't be daft he will be gone in two years

Maybe better 2/ 3 or 4 times the cost.

What about Lippmann I like to keep him but Malcolm is an upgrade.

Listen to yourself, you know what's going to happen, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea et al will move in and up price and that will be the end of it.

Needless to say no sleep last night.

Uninformed and impressionable as I am regarding transfer gossip (as are most fans! ) , I hope that the quashing of the rumours about Malcolm, Zaha, etc, etc., mean that Lookman (and other young Everton talent) will get a genuine chance to shine under Silva.

Zaha is quality but I think we have to learn from paying huge amounts for players and not getting a return and it's put Moshiri off somewhat, that's why Brands was brought in.
I mean there talking 30-40 million for Jack Grealish who has played very well for 1 season in a 2nd tier league
We have good players at this club and I think some we will see start to the best of, I am expecting 3 signings that will come in to the squad with 5-6 leaving some sold some loans.
One thing that when I saw bits of Hull and Watford last season was win loose or draw they looked like a team, set up right, players playing in positions that were right for the team, and I think that was ultimately the reason we were so poor.
Thing I'm looking forward to most is playing with some identity and some exciting football.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

18 Jul 2018 15:27:09
To reduce the current contenders for our first-team squad to around 25 players - while also getting room for the expected incomings - I expect way more than 5 or 6 players (nearer 10 at least Iā€™d imagine) to either leave, go on loan, or be consigned to the U23s.

It's patently obvious that many outside Everton - especially players and agents (and certainly other fans and pundits! ) - regard the club as a mid-table side because we haven't genuinely challenged for (let alone won! ) trophies or qualified for the Champions League for years.
The fact that we have the financial banking of Farhad Moshiri and a new management team in Brands and Silva might enthuse many Evertonians, but we are still seen by the rest of the world as not being challengers to the top-six.
So, players (especially under advice from astute agents) will only come here if the wages are way above what's offered elsewhere AND they will surely want to use Everton as a "stepping stone" to eventually move to a club at the "next level".
Players like Sandro chose us, so it seems, for the big wages, while players like Lukaku clearly chose to leave and move up a level. While we may well now struggle to move on the high-earners (like Sandro and Klaassen) , we have been successful in getting big transfer fees for the likes of Lukaku and Stones.
It will probably take Brands and Silva a few seasons (and transfer windows) to establish the club as a preferred choice for the better players, so until then I guess we'll have to accept that the coming and going of players will be driven purely by what the club is prepared to pay (wages and transfer fees for new signings) and by negotiating the best possible transfer fees for players who want to move on.
Even so, we still want the club to show ambition and intent - albeit that we the fans, should imho temper our hopes and expectations with patience and realism. If we start playing entertaining, attacking, winning football - and start performing like we are genuine challengers - then I'll be content to enjoy how things develop.

18 Jul 2018 14:29:32
I suppose itā€™s what do you call a mid table side now, as I would say anywhere from 7th - 17th seems to be called that these days from 6th upwards your mentioned as top 4.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 14:34:54
Very fair summary there Bobby.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 17:09:09
As a fan for over 40 years, I can confirm our club is 100% a mid table club. It's a fact. Anyone who argues against is so deluded they need to be sectioned.

The money man has come but 15 years too late. He's come and it's exciting (relatively) but its only put us on a par with all the other mid table clubs.

It's a long road to 4th. And I don't mean a fluke year where everything falls in our lap and everyone of the usual suspects has a stinker. I mean it's a long road to be considered a favourite with the bookies, football fans and players, that brand Everton are an expected top 4 candidate.

I hope we get there. But that Columbian wacko isn't far wrong. for now.

Myteams has hit the nail on the head. It has taken Spuds about 8 years of continual investment on players and stadium in order to get where they are. Added to which they have been fortunate with Kane. Perhaps if we had invested to the same degree, Rooney would have stayed with us and we would have added to his quality. As it happens we have had a succession of very good players who have come in young and been sold on for profit to be re-invested. some wisely and some not so wisely. Stones, Fellaini, Arteta and more recently Lukau have all been bought and sold for major profit. Rooney also balanced the books at his time. One of my ongoing gripes has been how we have not done well with signings since Moyes left. Lukaku aside we have had a succession of players come and go and at a loss rather than profit. I am not praising Moyes here. more stating how as a club we have lost our ability to spot a star in the making (Pickford aside it seems) Yes there may be others coming through. DCL Lookman etc but none of them are currently making huge names as yet (Pickford aside) . We are a club striving to achieve top 6 and maybe even top 4. When I started supporting Everton we were striving to win the league, win the FA cup and with a European competition. We are a million miles away from that right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2018 19:25:58
Weā€™ve had ups and downs throughout our history, but the years since the highs of the mid-1980s have been indicative of the lack of leadership and boldness at board level.
The European ban was particularly devastating, but weā€™ve had plenty of time to recover from that.
However, from being one of the ā€œbig fiveā€ instigating the Premier League, weā€™ve not progressed as other clubs clearly have.
We may now have the financial backing of Farhad Moshiri, but the other clubs are also well-financed, so to attempt to reach the top six (let alone top four) is harder than its ever been. The clubs that are in the Champions League have the income (from that competition and the corresponding Premier League prize money (from finishing in the CL places) and the commercial/ matchday revenue that their on-field success generates.
I also hope that we get there under Brands and Silva - especially as the new stadium at BMD surely needs to be hosting a winning Everton.

Remember when Brazilian footballers had macho names like Romario, Zico and Socrates? Miranda, Alisson, Bernard and Malcolm sound like a Thursday afternoon bridge tournament at the local care home.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - certainly with tosun and walcott baldy, unfortunately i think zaha is out of our reach as the price palace are looking for is around Ā£70m apparently, if we could have used bolasie as a makeweight i think it may have been possible mate but that ship has sailed..
