Im very happy with our business this window so far. However it will be seen as a failed window if we cannot sort out the LB position. Its the major weakness of our team. I just hope the powers to be play a blinder and sort it sooner rather than later.

{Ed025's Note - of course we would all love a LB anom, but if no one fits the bill that is available we dont want another misfit joining the ranks, dont get me wrong martina is not the answer but to be fair to the guy the protection he has received on that left side has been non-existent, siggy has no defensive quality at all and even if we had azpiiiqueta at left back we would still concede from the left mate..

On the reasonable assumption that Aaron Lennon leaves the club (for Burnley? ) , that means we'll have moved four players (Barkley, Jones G., Lennon, and Mirallas) out of the 25-man aged-over-21 squad that we originally registered for the Premier League at the end of the Summer transfer window.
Including the two signings we've made (Cenk Tosun and Walcott) , that means we now have 23 players in that squad:
PIckford, Robles, Stekelenburg, Coleman, Baines, Martina, Keane, Jagielka, Williams A., Funes Mori, Gana, Schneiderlin, McCarthy, Besic, Klaasen, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Bolasie, Rooney, Cenk Tosun, Niasse, Sandro, and Byrne.
There are five other aged-over-21 players still at the club (either injured or consigned to the U23s) : Garbutt, Tarashaj, Grant, Baxter J., and Gray.
Another two aged-over-21 players are out on loan: Browning and Pennington.
Of our aged-under-21 players, six are out on loan: Charsley, Connolly, Dowell, Galloway, Robinson, and Williams J. We've transferred Liam Walsh out on a permanent deal this window.
Of the remaining aged-under-21 players, these eight have been involved with the PL squad: Holgate, Kenny, Feeney, Davies, Baningime, Vlasic, Lookman and Calvert-Lewin. Others have had a taste via the Europa League, while Onyekuru has returned from loan (because of injury) .
So, just by simple arithmetic, it's clear to see why Allardyce wants to reduce the number of "first-team squad" players at the club, especially if we need to bring in others - either now or (as appears to be the case) in the Summer transfer window.
Some tough decisions will have to be made and not every fan will be pleased to see their favourite (s) leave. It'll be ruthless, but we surely don't need all those 40-or-so players I've listed above.

I am so pleased for the lad and its the biggest confidence builder he will get.

It's also brilliant to see how we are changing as a society when we realise that just because you have a mental health issue that you are not to be treated with kids gloves or avoided. You are still the same person.

I will always respect Aaron Lennon for facing what he did and coming out the other side, the stigma with mental health has changed and from 1st hand I know this and wish Aaron all the best with the next step in his career.

Re Walcott: Name successful signings from a London club. Score double points if an actual Londoner (although will accept southerners) . ResignIng Pienaar doesn't count. Lukaku does technically although it might be argued that in reality he came from WBA.

No one available via loan in the LB area Ed, if first choices are t available ange doesn't fancy any of our own. surely there has to be someone decent in the top 6 not gettig a chance or abroad.

Loan until the end of the season, no harm done. I really think we need a left back with a left foot for balance. Most starting line ups for us there days does not include a left footed player.

Even going back to Barry in midfield he had a left foot I think we need a couple in our squad. I know we have baines when fit.

But just my 2pence opinion. I think a few lefties will bring a lot more balance to the squad.

Fair point Ed, but I see it that we are no threat to the top 6. So why not release a ping hungry left back wanting to show what he can do in the premier league. Surely chelsea have one there haha. They have abou 173683 players.

But only if the loan market was that easy Ed.
