Seen plenty of people's team predictions and it seems not many can agree on the same side, which is testament to our squad. Anyway, thought I'd start a few debates about our line up. Early signs are that we will be playing the 4231 and if we look at it from that perspective quite a few selection battles start to surface. I think everyone can see our best defence being Howard, Jags, Distin, Baines and Coleman. Our CDMs have two moulds, one slightly defensive the other becoming more involved with the front 4. For the defensive it's probably a fight between Barry and Gibson. The more nimble footed would be between McCarthy and Osman. My choices right now would be Barry and McCarthy . Barry and Gibson could work, especially playing the top 4 contenders but they are very similar to me. Then you have the 2 flanks. There's Mirallas, Pienaar, Naismith and Deulofeu. Pienaar predominantly left, Naismith right, the other two interchange. I doubt we will see more than two of these on pitch at the same time from the start. Mirallas is a shoe in but on early season form I think Naismith is winning the other battle. His defensive qualities make him a good selection in the bigger matches and he knows where the goal is. But I'm excited to see what Deulofeu can offer and I think he will play a lot second half of the season. For me, Pienaar should be way down the pecking order. Bar injuries or a change of system with him playing as part of a central midfield 3, I don't see him getting in. I also wouldn't rule out seeing a team that pushes coleman to winger with stones at right back. The position behind the striker there's only one man. Barkley. He can just sit in front of the midfield and drop in to make a 433 at any time. Just love watching the lad play.  Up top it gets interesting. got to be Lukaku, the mans a beast and will be such a presence for us. Saying that Jelavic gives his all and impacts positively on games. Can he and Lukaku play in the same team? Unfortunately I don't rate Kone, I'd put Velios ahead of him. But maybe he will prove me (and others?) wrong. Then there's obviously Mirallas. The minutes he was up front on the weekend he looked like he could cause all sorts of problems and could play with any of the other 4 if we went 2 up top. Good luck Roberto. {Ed025's Note - good read that mate..just lacked a user name..

To the unknown poster agreed with u on the coleman as winger and stones as right back point the young lad stones was exceptional at Barnsley when getting forward. Its looking rosy at the moment. His time will come soon enough

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree with coleman he has deleveloped a lot defensively over the last 12 months and knows the role, I would rather have the spanish kid there he's hungary and has confidence in a abundance {Ed003's Note - Doesn't matter how confident you are, you are either Spanish or Hungarian}

Have to say I find it hilarious that people are moaning about new jerseys again next year!
The club changed the badge, silly fans scream blue murder (pardon the pun), so the club obliges and offers the fans a chance to help decide upon a club crest/badge. Obviously this means changing the shirts for the next season, yet now fans are moaning and calling the club 'a bunch of robbing b#stards'.

Unbelievable! The words 'never happy' and 'constant moaners' come to mind.
Give it a rest please! And besides I have several old shirts that I wear with pride regardless of what year they came out! What matters is that it says Everton on it, after that I couldn't give a t#ss! Some people really need to grow up a little!

Some of our supporters are turning into proper moaners, if they don't want the shirts then they shouldn't buy them.
Ste 1878 {Ed025's Note - sounds fair to me ste..

Agree0 Disagree0

This here is a forum where people come to moan, offer opinion and initiate debate. To moan about people moaning is preposterous and reeks of double standards.
As for this particular topic, it is rather amusing and ridiculous to whine about kits as they've changed every season for years.
Re the badge/crest. Are these 23,000 people 'silly' for having respect for our heritage and traditions or are they silly for disagreeing with you?
If you're happy to have a fisher price beehive looking crest representing our great club, good for you but for over 90% it was and is an insult to the paying public and the history of our club.
The silly fans screaming blue murder are passionate and respectful towards the club and have every right to voice their disapproval at something so ghastly, particularly as we were told the fans were consulted, when, subsequently it was established, we clearly were not.
But if it makes you feel better to call people silly, go ahead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aflm78 couldn't agree more mate. I've still got my kanchelskis danka shirt and still wear it with pride. Even though I hate the current badge the new 3rd shirt looks nice but I ain't paying out 50 odd holes for it

Agree0 Disagree0

I never said that I was happy with the new crest, in fact I much prefer the old one! However, it's the fans that go over the top about it using phrases like 'ghastly' and demanded that heads roll that are silly at the end of the day it's just a crest.

And don't start the old double standards nonsense, because it's a ridiculous argument. It's kind of like kids in the playground saying 'you're it', 'No, you're it!'. 'No, you're not because I said it first!'
C'mon really?!

Far too much whinging on this site about silly things! I'm not moaning about it just stating a fact! I can only assume that you are one of the moaners, in which case I think you should ask yourself the question, 'Why do I support Everton?' Surely the answer can't be to be constantly pissed off all the time!

People really need to stop hating everything, are we happy with everything? No! Are Everton run perfectly? No! Can you show me a club that is? No! Is it worth being so negative about every little thing? No!

It's one thing having opinions about things everyone has those, but when opinions become constant crticism and negativity it helps no one and achieves nothing!

aflm78

Agree0 Disagree0

First off aflm I am not one of the 'moaners'.
Secondly, if everyone here was of the same opinion then it wouldn't be much of a forum would it? Criticism is part and parcel of life, it's human nature. The 'negative' brigade are, more often than not, the realistic brigade, so why not let them have their say without getting on that high horse of yours, eh?
If you don't like what they have to say, ignore it, instead of jumping on people's opinions you don't agree with comments of 'silly' etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok sry for insinuating that you were one of the moaners! You are right of course about criticism being part of human nature. However, to suggest that negativity equals realism is stretching things a bit and is a common defense mechanism used by people who like to complain, This does not make it true though!

As for me being on my 'high horse'. how come when people criticise it is ok, yet when people defend the thing they love they are accused of being uppity? Some people complain about things and some people argue the other side.

Don't I equally have the right to defend the thing I love against what I see as often exaggerated and 'silly' criticism? Like I said I have no problem with people having their own opinions, yet when these opinions are 'constantly negative' it gets a little boring!

aflm78

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course you have the right to defend the other side of the argument and to your own opinion, but to resort to name calling and branding people is not necessary to make your point(s).
Not that I'm a delicate little flower who can't tolerate name calling.

Got me tickets for saturday and tuesday, can not wait, away days are the best. already on wind down, work tomorrow can swival. COYB let's get 3 points. predication WH 0-3 Eve. Anyone reakon the same and who will score? {Ed025's Note - 0-2..and lukaku for me..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Word of caution - West Ham United might play in a physical true-Big-Sam way that outmuscles some of our lightweight players PLUS we may have a few players making their full debut or just returning from injury PLUS the tactics and formation being used by RM are still a work in progress. A win would be great, a good performance would be almost as good, but staying unbeaten would be really nice. I suspect a 1-1 draw might be on the cards, but I'm hoping for a victory based on great football :-) That plus no injuries (or resulting suspensions) so that RM can rotate the squad within reason for the midweek cup game.

Good point about the physical nature of Big Sam's teams! That is why I would prob play Naismith ahead of Deulofeu, think his battling qualities will be useful. Also think Jela will prob start but definitely think Lukaku's strength would be very useful upfront!

Should be an interesting week! COYB!

Re my post below and getting behind the team, I was once told by one of the few real Manchester United supporters. a season ticket holder, "There are 2 types of supporters. when things go wrong, one lot blame the team.the other lot blame the ref." I am def a ref blamer. Always have been and always will. It drives my missus nuts. She calls me a whinger. But I actually enjoy it. I do remember going to watch in the late 60's and early 70's and can remember the crowd putting the fear of God in the opposition. If only we could get that hostile atmosphere back on a regular basis. It really is a 12'th man. Like in the Manchester United game when big Dunc did the diving header or Phil Neville did the tackle on Ronaldo. The crowd really did play it's part. When Goodison rocks, there is nothing like it and it sends a shiver down my spine. 56 years old, but a big kid when that happens! Living in Devon now so not too often these days.
