Sheesh there is some lack of realism on here at times. We started the season with a huge injury list. We were all pleasantly surprised at our early performances. We had a couple of decisions go against us re sending offs. ie if ours were sending offs. then a couple against us were too! We had a penalty decision go against us. We Now have more injuries than we started with. The manager is having to use kids in positions that were shown last season to be too raw and young. Yes tactically he might have got a few things wrong here and there. who knows? But compare with last season and we at least now look ok going forwards. We have a center forward with very little confidence and a couple of goals would turn that around. our only big problem is that we keep conceding soft goals and every game we need to score 2 or 3 to get a result. If we can tighten up at the back, get a few players back from suspension and injury then things will turn round. We are nowhere near a top 4 side yet. But we should be thinking about top 6 and we do need cover for Richarlison on the left. Calvert Lewin is not a wide player. But these are problems that can be sorted. Last season Coleman came back and made a huge impact. I expect the same with Richarlison. I also cannot wait to see if Mina has the same sort of impact because if he does, we will look a lot better. The only thing I cannot fathom is whay managers keep picking Shneids. I would have Tom Davies in every time ahead of him. He is young but also has an engine and does not stand on the center halves toes most of the game. On Saturday there were times when Zouma was telling Schneids to push on and Schneids just stood there? I know he had suffered a terrible bereavement, but this has gone on for too long with a couple of managers now. He just slows the game down and offers no attacking threat whereas Davies has enough to go forwards and chase back. He may make mistakes but is starting to mature.

{Ed025's Note - good post that degsy, i myself would have schneiderlin over davies though mate, morgan has done well i feel and has won me around with his performances this season, tom may well develop into a top player but at the moment he is sloppy and gives the ball away far too often and too easily..

19 Sep 2018 21:31:45
We will have to agree to disagree on that one Ed. I think Schneids has been better, but just slows the game down and won't press like the manager wants. Last week there was one situation about 15 yards outside our box where he had cleared the ball and the team moved up the pitch in unison. except for Schneids who literally had Zouma pushing him in the back telling him to move up with the team. I guess his head was elsewhere, but it stuck out like a sore thumb to me. the rest of the team together and him not doing the same.

{Ed025's Note - last week i think he was not on his game for obvious reasons degsy, but up until now i think he has done well mate..

We were in a very similar position at the beginning of last season, not much difference in that we struggled to score and conceeded to easily from silly individual mistakes. We never gave Koeman enough time to get it right and if we don't give Silva enough we may end in a position where the management think we want SA MKII to keep us in the PL. If that happens we deserve everything we get.

I am not sure if Tricky is saying my post is utter tosh or Ed's reply is utter tosh? But he is allowed an opinion. Then we can say his opinion is good or even utter tosh! Either way, sa90 is right. except I think maybe at this stage last season Koeman had lost the dressing room? We were not even creating more than say 1 chance a game. At least we look like we could win games now (West Ham game maybe not) . From what I have seen of Silva's signings, I am happy to say they are far superior to both Martinez and Koeman's. We are slowly getting back to Moyes type levels and with the structure of our financial situation should be able to push on that bit that we never could in Moyes' time. Since Moyes left and prior to Silva. in my humble opinion, only Lukaku, Gylfi and maybe Walcott are what you would call top level players. The rest are either maybe average or below average. Richarlison looks top level. And from what I have seen of Silva's other signings, there is quality. (yes I know about Pickford) . but I can also create a big list of dross signings post Moyes which I have done on may occasions so won't bother again (thank God, I hear! )

I agree Ed, I slated the guy last season for not putting a shift in and rightly so, this season he has knuckled down and apart from last Saturday, which was unstandable, he has upped his game.

Still got fingers crossed though for McCarthy, he is one player who we miss.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i was not happy with morgan at all last season bignev and to be honest would not have shed a tear if he had gone, but fair play to the guy he has knuckled down and has been one of our better performers. on macca i will be made up to see him back mate, say what you will about his ability but when he puts that glorious blue shirt on he gives 100% every time, i have felt at times that our midfield has been bullied this season but if macca plays you know that wont happen and i would love to see him get some game time..

20 Sep 2018 22:53:12
I would also be happy to have McCarthy back. I feel he is more akin to Davies in style. One thing I am sure about is Davies has the ability to become a top player. The goal he scored against Man City 18 months ago was pure class. But he was so young. He is still only just 20 years old. He is still growing and could become a top top player. I find it unbelievable that people judge players off a couple of appearances when 18 years old and decide they are not good enough.

I'm not sure that either Davies or Schid is the answer. Davies has youth and the fact he is local on his side but the basics i. e. distribution for instance are poor. He needs to go back to doing the simple passes really well and then, hopefully the expansive balls will follow. Schids? Sorry but I still can't accept last season when his attitude was completely wrong and unacceptable. This year maybe a bit better but we are still being walked through too easily in midfield and I put a lot of the blame on him and Ghana.

Personally I would rather have McCarthy or Beningamie in there but they both are injured or out of the picture at the moment. Longer term I think we will need to buy to strengthen but we don't know (or at least I don't) yet what Gomes might give us

The good news is that we have options but they need to work. We have got to stop giving away 2 goals a game and get some clean sheets without hurting the attacking options.

The question everyone seems to be asking is should Tosun start or be given a rest because he hasn’t scored yet.
Yes strikers are there to score goals but my main concern was how he didn’t hold the ball up and lost possession for two goals. He’s always looked strong previously bringing others into play. If he can do this then Sigurdson, Walcott, Richarlison and Bernard can chip in with goals. 60 goals between 5 players per season is achievable then Mina, Keane, Digne, Coleman to get the odd ones would reflect a top 6 finish. All we need to do then is learn how to defend.
Seriously though if Tosun does not hold ball up it’s a problem.

To be fair to Tosun that was probably his worst performance since he arrived. He is usually pretty good at holding up the ball and bringing others into the game.

I'd love to see him be dropped for a few games an chuck lookman up top he can't do any worse.

Well until this season Kane never scored for the first month. Tosun needs a goal, penalty, deflection or anything. Strikers are confidence players. Once he gets a goal he will be fine. You don't become crap over night.

Too many ready to pounce when the chips are down, yes west ham was a bad game the players out there got caught out a number of times, and easy to say on another day tosun gets 2 and niasses shot goes in off the bar.

But great managers and great teams are not built overnight and this set of players we have look like once everyone is fit, settled and used to how each other play should and could be capable of winning more matches.

We are yet to see what could be described as our 1st team set up due to injuries and suspensions so my judgement and everyone else's should be reserved till we have at least seen it.

I still think a decent striker is needed but there not cheap, but saying that if the likes of Richardson, Bernard Walcott and Sig all chip in with a few as there more than capable of doing we will be fine.

What with injuries and suspensions. our team has not been the same 2 games running! Just need to tighten up defence and start popping a few chances in. 100% better than the trash served up last season!

On a positive note. If we beat Arsenal, the West ham game will be long forgotten. 😁.

There will be more setbacks like West Ham but compared to last season its night and day and the more players we get back from injury or suspension and have them playing together and getting to know each other then the better we will get.

Does anyone really think Brands hasn't been a success?

rubbish, even Silva is still here after 5 games. Doesn't that prove all you doubters that were saying he's not here for the long term wrong? (of course it doesn't but just wanted to say it anyway)

We've seen Bernard for less than 90 min, Richarlison has been suspended for half our games, Mina and Gomes still haven't played. Let's wait and see the team after they have been integrated into the starting 11/ squad.

We, as supporters, want everything immediately but we've all watched football before. It doesn't happen that way. Kendall took time, Ferguson took time, Pochetino is taking time (look at them versus the reds) , Man City didn't happen overnight.

Give this team some time, support them and then watch them go. We have the basis of a really good side, might need some changes but, versus last season, a hell of a lot better and we need to get behind them - thick and thin

Some of the posts on here surprise and annoy me in equal measures. We are constantly hearing calls to give the kids their chance . A couple of mistakes by those youngsters and the same fans are criticising them . Holgate got sucked in on Saturday and was left stranded by a simple one two . Hopefully a mistake he has learnt from. We have to be patient . As Evertonians we better than most should understand the importance of time and experience. David Moyes wasn't a brilliant manager but did a great job for us because he was given time . Let's give this group of players and coaches time .
