Would love for us to try and sign Schweinsteiger, would play in the Barry role perfectly and would have a few years at a cheap price I think. Would also add a lot of leadership and experience!

I agree it's worth a try. His wages may be high andhe is injury prone but would show the level of player the club wants.

He is much more of an attacking threat than Barry. He can shoot from range and pass better too. But defensively Barry has the edge. although his pace is catching him out now and causes him to foul and get booked every game.

Whoever we sign in the January window will need to be a goal threat.

What I would do right now for a Cahill or Sheedy or even a Kanchelskis.

If he continues to play a 4-5-1 then we need three of the five to weigh in with goals. It's not helping Lukaku when the burden of scoring is solely on him.

100% correct Toffee Ace. I won't mention any ex players for fear of upsetting people, but I fear that is the crux of our problem and have been saying it for 3 years. It is also the fact we have no way of holding the ball up if we clear long. Lukaku is hopeless at holding it up. Even Anichebe was better at that. In turn that restricts how often our full backs can overlap so it is no surprise that you hardly see Baines or Coleman getting to the by line and whipping in crosses and their goals per game is reduced dramatically. I would honestly prefer someone like Shane Long who does the odd goal but also brings others into the game. Lukaku would look amazing playing for a stronger team but for us without players with no creative midfield fair looks poor.

Imo bastion has had his day. Even tho he may still be a good player, is he what we want to bring the club forward. we always seem to be linked with players who cannot even get a game in the first team. Players like belotti and the such are who we should be targeting.

{Ed025's Note - im sick of us being the retirement home for ex-united players dentie, we need to get away from that scenario and sign some non-united quality mate..

Dentie, Evo and ED are absolutely spot on. Because we're on a poor run people start looking at the wrong areas and look for quick cheap thumbs to stick in holes.

We need a second striker. I believe Koeman wanted this with gabbiadini and has been a major contribution for us underperforming.

Basically he has the same options as Martinez as in he can only play with one up front. All he can change is the players in midfielder and not the tactics. In turn when have possesion in a game the same midfielders only have the same options. A second striker can change you completely as a team.

That is what we want in January.

I really think its time for a lot of our fans to realise that we no longer need to shop in the bargain basement, we need to look to build for the future and not to keep plugging gaps with aging players deemed not good enough to play for the clubs we are looking to overtake!

I wouldnormally agree regarding us being a cast off for United ex players and not the way to go. But in the case of Bastion, I believe he is a top quality player with at least a bit more left in the tank. His way of playing never involved pace and just like people were writing off Rooney prematurely the other day. I think quality always rises to the top. I remember us signing a certain Peter Reid and a certain Andy Gray. both of whom were written off somewhat prematurely. Likewise our neighbours signed James Milner on a free. look how they perform when he plays. To sum up. yes I would not normally want an ex old man utd player. but I believe he will shine on for a couple more seasons wherever he is. And if we bring in some kids, he is the sort to nurture them.

{Ed025's Note - the thing is degsy he has done all he wanted to do in football and has all the medals and tee shirts to prove it, would his heart really be in it for the wet and cold trips to the likes of stoke and burnley on a wintry tuesday?, well past his sell by date for me mate and i fear he would be looking for a bit of a last pay day to top up the old pension..so thanks but no thanks for me..

Spot on Ed025 they are just on their last big pay day before they hang up their boots and work on TV as pundits!

{Ed025's Note - you do get the odd one that will turn up trumps wakka but mostly it goes tits up as you say mate..

02 Dec 2016 18:15:02
Yeah I suppose so Ed. I remember telling Andy Gray and Reidy that they were only in it for the payday and pension! A quick trip to the dentist, doctor and Psychiatrist sorted me out! Maybe it was the painkillers that mixed my head up?

{Ed025's Note - its a classic case of osmans disease degs.. :)
