Like the majority of fellow Evertonians had never heard of Niasse, looks lively on you tube and apparently works hard. Right footed though, so not quite sure where he will play? Over the moon that McGeady has gone. I work with a Wednesday fan who was asking what he was like. Described him as an unfit winger who can't tackle, pass, shoot or cross and has very little work ethic. He is however one of the finest exponents of the step over. Made Bily look like Messi.

{Ed002's Note - Should have paid attention when told then.}

Loved the side by side comparison on ssn between niasse and kone. Apparently kone is the better finisher, better header and more composed! Thankfully niasse is faster though.

I'm still excited tho, think this one will work out, well done Everton, COYB!

Would be interested in finding out what peoples views on the window have been
Could be taken that we have not lost any of our first team and have brought in a well fancied attacker. Could also be taken that a lot of teams have spent a fair bit of money whilst we have lost a player who works hard on and off the pitch and have failed to strengthen in the positions that seem to be our weakest.

Not going to say what mine is just wondering about others.

Good window for me. Second highest amount after Stoke. Kept everyone on first team. New keeper, manager and defensive coach in the summer and champions league is a possibility next season!

Must say if it's true what the new guy is saying that we've been intrested since October we've kept it very quiet fingers crossed there may be another iron in the fire.

01 Feb 2016 23:11:02
if that's the case then why didn't we sign him before the semi same old story from everton another poor window am afraid 1 signing ain't good enough lad sounds good but will he cut it in the prem you need a lot more than just pace in the prem let's hope he breaks the mold and starts banging them in from the off prob to soon wed for him to play, but as we all know we can't defend to save are life so even if he duz bangs them in we will let just as many in, just duznt inspire me Russian league anit the best remember last player we bought from that league.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Feb 2016 23:55:57
God! We have signed more than one. That Swiss lad who also looks a good signing for the future and if you look at the stats for our new signing you will see 12 goals an 10 assists already this season ain't shabby. The blokes ruthless upfront and if RM decides to play 2 strikers up front watch out! Miserable git.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 23:38:02
You sure you're not Russian muff? Needed Bily to translate your post, on a serious note.

I despise Martinez but what more did you want this window? He can't play on Wednesday even if we wanted him to.

Pleased we have signed an 'exciting' and no doubt also 'phenomenal' new striker. Wonder if he's 'arrogant' too? (Does Bobby still like arrogance? Probably not since he met Mirallas) I seem to be using those words a lot more these days. Can't think why. On a lighter note, we seem to have got shut of McGeady for a bit, although Greggs might lose a bit of business for a while. As long as his loan sees him back well in time for the Everton Christmas nativity. We always need a good donkey for that.

Never heard of the guy before and looked at his YouTube videos. At first reminded me of Louis Suarez that he does things unpredictable and unorthodox in the box. But did look a bit weak on left foot. Obviously can't go to much on YouTube so will reserve judgement and look forward to seeing a new player in the squad to freshen things up.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 17:37:42
I've read a few posts about us needing a defender but do you all think we actually need a new defender or just a new defensive coach? . I mean we all know our defence is very capable on its day so it's form that's the issue not ability. I would however think a new goalkeeper wouldn't be a bad shout.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2016 18:08:54
Exactly my thoughts gibboEFC. New keeper and defensive coach would do me. I'm happy enough with 6 or 7 of our defenders. I think it would be hard to sign defenders that are better. If they got proper guidance and coaching it would help enormously imho.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 18:25:49
I have been thinking the same over the last few days. I understand that GK have separate coach do we have a defensive coach? Or is it just a case of Roberto and assistant/ coaches working on all outfield play? Maybe it's something that needs looking at like American football have coaches for different areas of the game I know it's not the same as football will make the transition from defence to attack and vice verse and American football is either offensive or defensive but certainly can work on set pieces and working on defence being compact.

Ed I have done a little bit of digging on niasse because I was confused as to why the daily mail were saying he couldn't play on Wednesday and I have Sussed it niasse has a ban for acumalation of yellow cards and is serving a domestic ban and Russia have had a mid winter break which means he's yet to serve it #sherlock.

Not a rumour just an idea. Who would be happy if we contacted Chelsea and said John stones swap for Cahill and begovic + 20 mil or so. I for one think something along these lines could be a great bit of business for our club.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i have just posted the same thing kingy but without begovic, but your deal sounds better to me mate..

01 Feb 2016 14:52:56
Thats too good an idea for clubs to take Kingy, its like a perfect scenario for us and Chelsea and Stones, never going to happen though as common sense doesn't work in football.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 17:42:04
It's a no for me. I know Stones has been poor. If we get a decent manager who knows how to coach players to defend and actually realises that corners and set pieces do happen in games we'll be delighted Stones is still with us.

Stones was always going to have a bad period. This is it. He'll come out the other side better. All we have to do is stick by him. If we got rid of every player who had a bad patch we would have no players here at all.

Don't buy that he wants to go. Depending on a new manager / take over he might see his long term future with Everton.

Imho from now till the beginning of next season there will be a lot of changes and a busy summer for Everton. Hopefully all for the better.

Hi Guys,

I'm sure this won't be met with much agreement at all but i'd like to make a case for Martinez being given another year with us.

I completely agree that our league position is awful, and we have thrown away so many points from winning positions that it is heart wrenching. But on the flip side, I truly believe we have been playing some sensational football at times, pundits and rival fans often agree to this.

Clearly Martinez needs to get to grips with our defensive failings, and learn how to take the points when we are in the right position during a match. He can't be so naive to not notice this, and my belief is that he will address it for next year. If this is sorted then we can be a real force, when used in combination with the attacking prowess we now display under him.

He is bold in the transfer market, takes a chance on young players, and seems to garner love from his players, as demonstrated by deulofeu's comments.

I am much happier with Martinez than I ever was with Moyes, and again, although there are some severe errors, I would like to see if he can fix it. Would one more year really harm?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - is that you bobby?.. :) i do like the guy worcester, but the fact is its a results business mate and he has been found wanting, if things changed and i mean dramatically between now and the end of the season then maybe...but im not holding my breath..

01 Feb 2016 14:54:05
If he got a top defensive coach and actually took his advice then i'm in, doesn't matter anyway as he will still be here next year anyway.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 15:03:53
I prefer to be called Robby but yes you caught me out Ed :)

I completely agree with your comment re; being a points business, and on that basis we have been pretty shambolic. But I just can't shake the feeling that he must have something special about his management to generate such a huge turn around in our attacking play. If he knows how to work defensively (but just neglected it, or always considered it a 2-stage plan, who knows) then we could be some very happy fans.

It's blind faith really, I think I would just like the stability rather than a new manager with new transfer targets and the risk of 0-0 draws once more, we endured too much of that for a lifetime.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 15:07:21
I think he is staying odds on, he's just spent another £13.5m that's not the stance of a board about to terminate someone's contract, sorry for the bad news Ed025!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats ok wakka..i expect your right mate..

01 Feb 2016 17:21:28
For me if you can't get your defence set up right after three years of being at the club then you are not even an average manager.

When you add fuel to the fire that he inherited one of the best defences in the league it makes your mind explode!

Then you have some guy who has not played at the highest level coaching your defence (development coach) yet you have a previous England international coaching the U21's is plain fricken stupid!

You need to take a look at the guys CV. It's world class. This just sums it up for me.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 17:52:33
Agree BlueJohnUns, think if Martinez hasn't sorted out the defence by now I'll be stunned if he ever does.

On paper we have one of the best defence in the league. I honestly believe that. Its confidence, moral, playing tactics and coaching that are all doing the harm to our defence imho.

No one happier than me if Martinez all of a sudden has the defence playing the way he did in his first season. I along with other posters suggested a long time ago that the defence in his first season was not really his.

I'd say there is a lot more people who would agree with that today. He did pull a great squad together. Pity about his lacking in defence.

One question, didn't Martinez play as a centre back himself? Not 100% sure of that. Would like to know for certain. Makes his defensive coaching look even worse if he was a centre back. Like I said I'm not positive if he was a centre back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed023's Note - He was a defensive midfielder}

just read up on niassa and by all accounts he is a tireless worker adn grafter and will chase players down to get ball back, sounds like robbie may just tweek his tactics for a more pressing game instead of just standing off and letting teams come on to us because if its true about niassa"s work rate then you can't just have one man chasing everything while others sit back and watch. its just a thought. looks decent though.

01 Feb 2016 10:02:57
Ed is this takeover already done and dusted, have you heard anything on this at all as a guy in my work who knows someone at our club said the rumour is that everything is signed and sealed and he thinks it will be announced this week, probably waiting for the transfer window to shut.

The lad in my work is a koppite though but not the sort of lad who spouts crap, I know unusual for Koppites, just passing this rumour on Blues so please don't hang the messenger.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Firstly, it has nothing to do with the transfer window. If you chum has been told that everything as signed and complete, then the club has done remarkably well keeping this from everyone else.}

01 Feb 2016 10:14:20
I know what you are saying Ed, but wouldn't it be in their interests to keep it quiet otherwise clubs would expect more for transfer fees like Man City were paying post takeover, I also think that if this was kept quiet it would be a miracle, there was that guy/ lady in the USA who posted their boss has just bought Everton though, then again nothing else was posted, suppose we will see by Friday Ed.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, it is nothing to do with fees or transfers. It is nothing like the situation with Manchester City.}

01 Feb 2016 06:54:00
So am going to be optimistic and forsee 3 players signing today with 2 moving out on loan. Reckon we will bring in a striker defender and left sided midfielder.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

01 Feb 2016 07:22:25
I'm being optimistic when I say I think it's going to be a good day for us. Recon we will get 2 incoming and mcgeedy out on loan. Don't think gibbo will go. Think we will also be told the yanks are in but that news will be after window slams shut. Optimistic being the word of the day.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 08:38:11
I'm going to be realistic one out, try really hard to get one marquee signing but just fail in the final moments. One in on loan to sit in the reserves for the majority of the remainder of the season.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - oh ye of little faith sa, im hoping and thinking that we will be active today mate, it will give the team a great boost if we do and im keeping everything crossed in anticipation of some good news..

01 Feb 2016 09:59:32
deadline day got to love it so much anticipation, but we are Everton and one thing that is consistent is be ready to have the rug pulled from beneath your feet!

Agree5 Disagree1

01 Feb 2016 13:47:43
No defender no chance simple as. Life long evertonian sick to death of this ****. love the fact we are close on Niasse but we need defenders. For me it's like buying sox when you need t shirts. We are the the joke of the pl if we fail today it's another disgraceful season . Our club is a small club in its exceptance no managerial reprocusions no difficult decisions. What manager in our history got a 28 million budget let alone to spend on one player. We are being stepped over by stoke palace worst defense. Typical evertonians stay loyal no expectations. Today could be a very sad day to be a Blue. We cement the fact we loose our best players come the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think its as bad as your making out there tallaght, its not great dont get me wrong, but a new big signing will certainly help..

01 Feb 2016 14:08:05
We don't struggle scoring goals we struggle defending them. look at the stats we do need Niasse but not if we don't get a ****ing patch over that hole in our bucket? Its that bad we are 12th in what world is that progression? Mediocre acceptance might be ok for you. I'll remind you of that when we loose our soul in the summer. i'm very frustrated we are bad mouthing players for having ambition and realize poor management.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im not happy with the defence either mate...but it wont be fixed while bobby is at the reigns so lets just see how things pan out and try and enjoy it a bit..

01 Feb 2016 14:28:56
If we somehow got Cahil I'd be over the moon we have to sign a center half or bust.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - would you take £20m and cahill for stones tallaght?...i think i would mate..

01 Feb 2016 16:40:13
Sorry on the delay as the other lad said begavic as well. That would be a dream transfer scenario. If we have to loose stones cahil is defo our best hope.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 03:03:46
John Stones clearley does not wish to be here, clubs are still lineing up to offer us 50m+, take the money, invest some of it in one or two player that we seem not quite able to aford, plus a top class keeper, and the club will be the stronger for it. Don't care who it is, if they start to think they are bigger than the club, (no matter how talented) show them the door.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

01 Feb 2016 07:03:07
I don't get how yourself, and others on here, wind yourselves up over the Stones situation. You're not the first to state that 'he doesn't want to be here' but there is no basis to your argument. We know he put a request in months ago but he has had plenty of good games since that came out in the press. He has lost form and confidence like all players do from time to time. He will also continue to make mistakes as he gains experience.
Two things spring to mind. The first is he has a manager who encourages him to play from the back and, when things go wrong he doesn't seem to have words with him. The fans need to shoulder a bit of blame for putting him on such a high pedestal in the first place. Now he is having a blip those same fans are calling for him to be sold. Football supporters are certainly fickle.
Even if we did sell him, it wouldn't be this window as there will be no time to get the replacements you want, so he will be with us until the summer.

Agree5 Disagree1

01 Feb 2016 07:58:56
As he hasn't put a request in this window I can't see why anyone could presume he wants out. I think the lad just wants to get on with his work.

Agree3 Disagree1

01 Feb 2016 08:32:01
Not the fans spud the press they did exactly the same with Barkley and made him and now Stones out to be some sort of footballing god's. Don't blame the fans you sound like Martinez.

Agree3 Disagree0

01 Feb 2016 09:10:58
When you have such talented players as Stones, Barkley and an inherited renowned miserly defence you have to ask is it down to individual players or a collective failure brought about by a Manager and his Staff that have already taken one Club down.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Feb 2016 09:58:01
You can't say there's no basis when he handed in a transfer request, he wanted to go and he's handled the situation well but it Dosnt get away from the fact he wanted to go, if we get 50 mil then business has been done and we have done well out of a prospect that may or may not for fill his potential to say there's no basis is delusional.

OK so here is a hypothetical one for all of the let's sell Stones brigade. If we get taken over and the new owners give the manager a new pot of cash say £100m for transfers do you want a good majority of it spent on a new central defender to replace Stones who you would have just sold to a what would now be a rival club? let's see if we get taken over before we sell our potential stars of the future. Today would definitely not be the best time to sell and of our 1st team regulars.

Not all fans soldier but it can't be denied that there were plenty singing his praises who have now jumped on the sell him band wagon. I sound nothing like him, I never used the word phenomenal at all :)

Totally agree with every word you said spudv and also Toffe Ace and sa90.

Think about it. If we sell Stones, where and how much would we have to pay to get a player of the same standard and future?

If we want to progress we have to keep our best players. Don't care if we get £50m. The chances of that improving the team without Stones is small imho.
