Hey lads anyone else thinking that due to sky rocketing prices in the prem we should be looking for players in lower leagues or other European leagues? Could give better value for money as average players in the prem seem to be going for crazy prices (10 mil plus)!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Read my post from yesterday mate. Things are going to get really silly. Everyone has bags of cash and are holding onto it because players values are increasing. Even average players will eventually move. but for silly money in the last couple of days.

Agree0 Disagree0

It won't even be just the fees of players, it also won't just be players based in the UK, agents will be all over this. Players know about the increased tv deals so they will demand more wages. This will be the case of any player coming in to the prem.

Agree0 Disagree0

Silly money is standard fare these days. Supply and demand market with a lot of clubs having money. The best asset have is Martinez who players will want to play for. I commented recently on the Everton budget, which, nobody can be sure about only that it will be small compared to others. Martinez's skill of getting people to play an expansive game outweighs his ability in the transfer market. Europa league requires us to expand our squad. I would be interested to know what a successful campaign, say semis, would do for finances? Getting a bigger squad without success could hurt us a lot in the future. Newcastle and Swansea have suffered. If I had my way I would want to pull out of the Europa league and improve or sustain our league position.

Agree0 Disagree0

So many people deluded on here, why would you want to pull out of a competition that we have earned the right to be in. We have to strive for something, might as wel finish mid table every year if you have got no ambition. i'm not saying we will win the Europa league but if we do there is a champions league place at stake and the experience will do us good in the long run

{Ed025's Note - im with you john..

I hope so rushjohn. I want Everton to win everything. Maybe I take a negative stance but history of the Europa league leaves a nagging concern.

Barry did a great job for us last season and i'm as greatful as anyone. However, by common consent, he has been offered £50,000, per week, and we are told, money is not his main goal, given that, the delay in getting an answer, is begining to look very "odd."

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree JCW..

He's on holiday so expect something when he returns one way or the other

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets hope it is just his agent trying to get the best deal he can? I too am beginning to wonder if his heart is at Goodison. A statement to the effect of, "I am happy at Goodison and would like to sign a good contract." That way his agent could still look at other options and see what sort of deal he could get elsewhere. At the same time, the fans and club would be happier knowing that unless he was offered silly money elsewhere, he would be likely to sign for us. The silence is deafening as they say.

Agree0 Disagree0

Money is obviously his main goal, otherwise he would have signed ages ago.

I don't blame him for seeing if he can get more elsewhere, it is most likely the last main contract he will sign.

If he doesn't sign here his best bet would to be to sign for an MLS side.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he has gone on record to say that money is not a major factor mike, and if this is true, we are surely in the box seat..

I don't believe him ed. I think he is going to try and get as much as he can for his last contract, and I can't blame him for it as I would do exactly the same.

I still think he will end up in the MLS as I can't see him signing for crap sides like West Ham or Leicester.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - looks like we will have to wait and see mike..

Even if he does go to the MLS it does not mean money was his main motivator. It's a very glamorous lifestyle, it's underrated as a league, and he'd be going to play with David Villa and Frank Lampard. His family may want it, as it happens I'm confident he'll sign a 1yr contract with us

Agree0 Disagree0

Family will come first; that means money and lifestyle. At his age he will look for what he can get out of football. MLS must be appealing. Or a contract at a big club as a squad player like Arsenal. Nothing will happen till after his hols.

Bacca from sevilla? I hope this doesn't fade. Looked good for Colombia and scored a sharply taken goal. We will definitely miss romelu so hopefully we'll be looking for a top quality international striker. Deggsy is right.

I hear Leicester City have today entered the race to sign up Gareth Barry, offering similar wages to West Ham. Can we simply stop all this nonsense and get him back on board for the next two seasons? I believe he's happy with us and will sign but let's make this the first piece of business before the World Cup starts.

I will also table a couple of views: Firstly, the WC will get in the way and things will be difficult. We need to sign 6 or 7 players and in my humble view the most difficult to replace will be Lukaku. We will miss his goal contribution more than anything. It is some years since we had a forward capable of scoring 20 ish goals a season and the improvement we made last season was in the main due to the extra goals he provided. We really do need someone like him or Bony and one thing I am really happy about is that RM is not afraid to pay high fees for potential when he sees it. (McCarthy springs to mind. I initially thought he had over paid for him). Secondly, the extra money from Sky means that all the clubs are cash rich and with a certain few "lucky" clubs, these have even more cash. MCFC, MUFC, LFC, CFC, QPR etc. This will undoubtedly create a supply and demand problem, meaning over-inflated prices for players are inevitable. Look what Southampton want for Shaw and Lallana. This will result in over inflated prices, clubs holding onto players they don't really want and a final couple of days in the transfer window that will make any previous transfer windows seem mundane. Fees will reach silly money bracket. The majority of deals will happen in the last couple of days. LFC seem to be sorting their targets now, which is what I think we should be doing to an extent. We should also tie our youngsters to very good contracts that do not cause them to be easy targets for the cash rich clubs. Hopefully players like Kone and Gibson will recover well enough to provide additional numbers. but I really have doubts about Kone. I do not rate him. His best ever return is 17 in a poor Dutch league. His average return is much lower and his career has been blighted by injury. He suffers malaria and is muslim. He therefore respects ramadan and fasts. Make your own minds up on that one. The kids coming through the ranks is our best hope. Signings from lower leagues for the future will also be key. It is going to be difficult for RM but I will back him and the club to do things right and take us forward.

{Ed025's Note - good read that degs..

didnt kone score 13 goals on the right wing in a relegated team in his first season in england, isn't vics highest, 8 goals and that's up front? His career was blighted by injury and he could never get into double figures, yet you rate him

Agree0 Disagree0

No Swan. I don't know where you get some of your ideas mate. I never rated Anichebe. I just said many times that Kone was an older less fit version. I never understood why we got rid of Anichebe who was a muscular underachieving center forward to replace him with an older, less fit underachieving center forward. I am happy to wait until next season when Kone will end up our top scorer with at least 20 goals after completing the whole season without showing fatigue resulting from a mixture of fasting and malaria. Kone might have scored 13 goals playing on the right wing. How many has he scored for us or other clubs? Not many that is for sure. Yeah Victor was not brilliant. but my view for what it is worth is similar for Kone. You obviously think he is great.and Alcaraz for that matter. Well we will see what contribution they both make next season. I prefer Osman to both! lol.

I know why we got rid of vic, because he was rubbish, its between him, angell and bakayoko for our worst striker to ever wear an everton shirt, I have never once said kone would get us 20 goals a season, would I have signed him if I was manager? Hell no, would I have sold vic for 6m? Definitely, you're being not only childish now but also rather arsey, so hows about you stop putting words in my mouth, start realising what's done is done and get your head out of your arse?, something I will guarantee you? Kone gets to double figures next season and vic stays 5th choice at west brom, night night degsy

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan, you got me all wrong. I am not being arsey. I am laughing my socks off mate. I take you up on your bet too. No way will Kone get double figures. Maybe double figures of games played. but not goals. I will eat my hat if he does. With regards to putting words in your mouth. that's exactly what I was saying about you. I think you read some of the above posts then added them to mine and put the whole lot down to me. I suggest you go through them again and you will see what I mean. As for me being childish. I agree.guilty as charged and loving it. Night night matey. X

The above posts? About barry and bacca? don't remember speaking about them, oh you're on a hype, nice one, I love being on hypes, you feel untouchable but, unfortunately, i'm not on one so i'm not so giggly at the moment, better buy a cheap hat then mate, don't want you choking on any expensive wear now do we, as for you being childish and admitting it, well, all part of being on a hype I suppose, get all cwtched in bed, awww how sweet, xoxo

Agree0 Disagree0

Never one to disagree with Swan but how the list of worst Everton strikers does not include one Mikel Madar is extremely concerning for all future opinions!

Terms and conditions:
Swan this is a joke, this should be taken as nothing other than a joke and despite what you may think I actually agree with a majority of what you say. Mikel Madar once scored a goal with his ass and celebrated like it was in the World Cup final, for that alone he needs to be on the list, plus his hair. Anyone who has ever played championship manager knows Ibrahima Bakayoko is the greatest centre forward to ever play the game, I'm guessing that's why he was signed, along with Per Koldrup. Honourable mention should be made to James Beattie. However Brett Angel was by far the worst of the worst.

Agree0 Disagree0

Half time and Lukaku has scored a blinder. If he takes this form in to the World Cup the 0.001% chance we had of him playing for Everton next season will be gone

Agree0 Disagree0

I reiterate, Lukaku will blow our budget when we need to expand the squad. We don't know what the budget is but we can guess fairly accurately. I would ponder Bolasie, Snodgrass and and a Man U striker cast off. Bony would be a good call. A centre half like Caulker will help the aging defence even if current players last another season. Martinez has hinted Duffy will make the first team so I think he will prioritise in other areas.

I will table a couple of views. RM may well be proved correct that deals will be delayed due to the WC. I only offer up that a certain club delayed and delayed last year and that manager paid the price for a poor season. On the other hand one great signing aligned to promoting known talent in the younger ranks may well be RM's plan. To play both in the EPL and Europa, I am sure I read EFC needed 6 or 7 additional quality players. Maybe 2 or from EFC's younger ranks still leaves 4 to 5 additional players. May the games begin!

The fact that RM has said the WC will delay any signings means he is after internationals which is a good sign surely?
Im sure he also has targets that are players for the future that will bolster the squad but anot cost so much.

The bbc sport gossip column for today (mobile version) has very interesting picture of suarez doing his usual trick. Looks like he's flying through the air with nobody even close to him.

Let's hope it's not too long before he dives and seriously hurts himself.
