PiereLeBlue although we can't change the result you are right the 'goal' should have stood.

In my time you couldn't be offside if an opposing player was the last to touch the ball, effectively being played onside.

Having read the new offside rule which is clear on deflections, if my interpretation is correct, there is no way the goal should have been disallowed.

The linesman has a clear view and doesn't flag and then clearly tells the referee that he was not interfering with play and didn't touch the ball, it's the VAR official who stated that Sigurdsson was interfering with an opposition player being able to play the ball in this case De Gea by being in an offside position, the fact of the matter is if Sigurdsson isn't there De Gea doesn't save that and therefore Sigurdsson being in his line of site should be irrelevant, once again common sense doesn't prevail.

Surely to be in his line of sight De Gea would need to be 3 foot tall as Sigurdsson was on the ground!

The VAR guy was John Moss, say no more he has been against us for years.

It will rumble on till they drop this stupid var idea or use it properly, the onside offside argument has gone on for years, now where talking about armpit hairs and toenails been offside, so many teams have been screwed by this system and all it's done is suck the life from the game.
The referees decision should be final if his assistants don't alert him to a potential issue we move on, if they do and the ref decides to that's when var should be used, not to overturn the referee.

Drop VAR. It's ruining the game. It just can't work 100% until you can get technology into the players kit and the ball. Needs to work alongside some kind of GPS system. Until then, it's still just an interpretation and we had that already with 2 linesmen and a Ref.

As for the goal, I think it's a goal but Sigs sits on his backside far too long. It's not a penalty for me and all he has to do it is start to move away from the goal. De Gea was given the get out of jail card and rightly took it. But in truth he was simply wrong footed by the deflection and the goal should have stood. I know Arsenal are off this season but that's yet another so called top 6 stalwart dominated for large parts of the game.
If we can keep it the same against LFC we will know how far we've come in a couple of months.
Think we have 8 winnable games left after LFC. Could still make a late charge for a europa slot. It's going to be the closest run-in in Prem history. Chelsea hold no fear for me. Think another draw next game.

There’ll be many, many comments written about the “offside” goal, but for me, I just completely makes me lose heart in watching football.

It seems that the whole controversy around VAR decisions only serves to create an online debate on social media, therefore only enhances the online presence of the premier league. If I was a cynic, it would make me think that it was a deliberate tactic designed to male more money. Either way, it seriously has me at the point of giving up watching.

What’s the point? That goal was perfectly good, not open to interpretation imo, more points robbed off us.

I agree mate I have said b4 VAR should be binned its just spoiling the game of football.

If it was the other way around guaranteed it would have stood. VAR seems to always go against us but you don’t hear much about the so called big 6 teams having VAR go against them or maybe I’m just being sceltical.

No flag no whistle no offside just a simple goal. Var needs removing from our game and every club needs to get behind a big remove the var movement.

VAR should be there if there is an obvious error and/ or if there is a question in the referee and assistants mind. Also in our case didn't the goal come off an opposition player.

Forget the whole offside debate at the end, am i the only one who thought gylfi should have had a peno for the tackle on him. Maybe watching it with blue tinted glasses?

Forget that what I want to know is what he was doing just sitting there when the ball is still live and we are in their penalty area attacking. If he gets up and gets on with play we get a deflected winner with no need for a VAR call.

Completely agree, he just sat there having a lovely time.

You need to take another look, he was on the ground due to the late tackle from the utd defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2020 21:49:14
Nevertheless he had sufficient time to move, he was not injured.

01 Mar 2020 23:08:06
Had he stood up then he would have been impeding the keepers vision and the correct decision would have been to disallow the goal.
He didn't, he wasn't and they shouldn't have.

Stole my thunder Brassington, had a Siggy stood up and blocked his sight then fair enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2020 23:37:16
What I will say is had that tackle on Siggy been anywhere else on the pitch a foul would have been given for a late tackle and a yellow card the very least given to the utd player.

Gomes was our standout player this afternoon so glad to have him back.

Great having Gomes back, makes a real difference. But DCL put in a proper centre forward display, him and Richie could be brilliant in time.

Team not filling me with confidence today, Gomes is the only plus in midfield but Davies? Would rather have put Holgate in there and put Mina at the back and don't even get me started on the fact Bernard is on the bench and Sigurdsson is on the pitch.

Ed’s could Sigurdsson have a agreement in his contract that he must be in starting XI? Regardless of formation and players available he starts every game 😏.

{Ed002's Note - No, I very much doubt it.}

Just reading the echo piece about it’s the 40th anniversary since Dixie passed away at Goodison, there’s a picture of Dixie and there’s definitely a resemblance to DCL just a passing thought but take a look at it.

I’ve submitted pictures to the sightings page to make it easier to compare, we can only hope Dom goes on to be a prolific as the great man.
