Roberto choose the wrong team today--cannot play with Eto Naismith and Barkley in the same team --all play in same position--if Pienaar is fit he must start because his link up play with Baines gives us great penetration down the left
McGeady failed to impress again

Penetration down the left? Are you joking? Its the same thing they get the ball in the corner and backheel it to eachother for half an hour until they lose it, once mirallas is back we need a proper left winger, pienaar offers nothing besides being bullied off the ball and the occasional flick, which usually fails, mcgeady was good today but I do agree that barkley, naismith and eto'o cannot play together

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok the performance was not good but I thought mcgeady shouldn't have come off or was I watching something else, by far his best performance

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if thats his best performance mike...it just shows how really average he is mate..

Simple, we just struggle to breakdown teams who sit back and defend. Need a plan B the odd long ball, shot from outside the box . Need to MIX IT UP!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mc geedy failed to impress?? For once I thought he was our best option going forward, him and Seamus seemed to have the mark of the Swansea left side (now I know it doesn't say a lot for the rest of our attackers that Mc geedy was our livliest), Eto'o is a world beater but keeping him on for the sake if it and putting him wide right was a massive mistake, you don't, no matter who they are accommodate your side to a certain player! Peanuts was annonomus today! We had no peniteration today, and no impedious! But a clean sheet is a positive, upwards and onwards, In Bobby We Trust!

Some intensity was certainly missing today but it doesn't help when we give it away so cheaply. Ross was the main culprit in that sense, some of his short passes and first touches were often short of his customary assuredness.

I don't want to make this moaning time because I don't like to moan but i'd probably say that's one of the worst and most boring football matches I've ever seen, swansea played for a draw again then celebrated like they had won the league, which may I just say, they hadnt just won the league, ratings:howard-6-doesnt come for crosses, coleman-6.5-barely got down the wing but was solid against montero, jagielka-8-very solid, got turned a couple of times but good regardless, alcaraz-6-dodgy first touch of the match but made abgreat interception to stop them breaking, feel sorry for him, just starting to get a run of games aswell, he was doing well, baines-6-by god, some of the worst crosses I've seen all season, by far, mccarthy-7-ran and ran and ran, then ran some more and a bit more of it too, barry-6.5-decent on the ball and did okay when put at centre back, naismith-6-one of his worst games for us, offered nothing, barkley-5.5-'omg you're picking on him again' no i'm not, he was awful, lost it constantly, missed the ball completely in the right and fell over, wasted in the wing like naismith, cowpat sid said about our attackers being able to play anywhere, no, they cant, he was awful today, mcgeady-7-'omg did you see his touch outside our area' yes I did and you could see how gutted he was, put in a few decent crosses (take note, baines) and tracked back, he tracked the run of routledge for howard to collect, he dragged 3 players out wide then backheeled it to eto'o, he came close with a shot, I will defend him today, he wasnt perfect but put a shift in and did well, eto'o-7.5-the man is sheer class, drops back too much but had no service but worked hard and kept it well, besic-6.5-worked hard but played the wrong passes at times which happens, instructed the team (somrthing eto'o also did), looks a real leader a natural replacement for barry, lukaku-6-so close but defended well by williams, I know he suffered a knock against burnler, need him starting games, pienaar-6-meh, really annoyed with that, but oh well, with antolin unfortunately out I don't want distin anywhere near the team, 13 goals conceded in 5 games he's played this season, I would give browing the chance alongside jags, on to the next one

To paraphrase Tuco from the "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly": If you're going to shoot, then shoot. Don't run around making passes and dribbling the ball and popping off lame corner and free kicks.

Well played defensively. Howard could have ate lunch. How often we get a sizably more corner kicks that the opponent. (Converting them one big O-fer)

Distin is a far better player than Alcaraz imo Swan. Just a pity he is out of form and, probably, age is catching him up. The other day you blamed Howard for the goals conceded now its Distin! He deserves another chance if those deemed first team players pick up knocks, as has happened today.

02 Nov 2014 11:40:12
Im not switching the blame, but the record has inproved when distin was out the team, the way we play we need a centre back who is good on the ball, we have 2 in stones and alcaraz, then we have 2 players who can only defend, in distin and jagielka, which will mean jagielka going to the right of the centre backs and having to bring it out, thus mistakes start creeping into his game again, distins pace is long gone, as was evident when origi strolled past him so easily, should the jags-distin partnership start again, we will score less goals and concede more, its not even debatable whose a better footballer alcaraz or distin, distins legs have gone, neither he or jagielka are good on the ball, tyias browning should be given the chance alongside jagielka, remember what gomis and montero did to distin in the cup, imagine what aguero, silva, sanchez, di maria and costa (again) will do to him, we will be destroyed, distin will retire at the end of the season, and rightly so

Of course you are switching blame Swan. One day it is Howard's fault that we have conceded so many, next it's Distin's fault because he is the target for you this week! It is debatable who is the better player, Alcaraz should not be in the team at any point. He just isn't good enough, I'd rather put Browning in and give him experience. With regards to Distin's pace, obviously he is going to lose it a bit at his age. Origi is no slouch is he? Yes, we have improved, coinciding with SD not being in the team but we have too good a squad to continue playing so poorly. Results were bound to improve, especially given the teams we had to play at the start. SD has been a solid buy since signing, it's a shame the way it is ending for him. Jags was equally as poor to start but has been given time to get his form back. Distin hasn't been afforded such a chance

Alcaraz has had 2 bad games, vs southampton away and liverpool away (he wasnt fit), alcaraz is a better footballer, its is debatable who is the better defender, no origi isn't a slouch, but he burnt distin, in the past couple of seasons, walker, valencia, walcott, aguero and benteke have failed, is he faster than all of them? No, alcaraz is yet to cost us a goal this season, distin well, ha, the reason jagielka failed early was because on the right side of the defence he is expected to be the ball player and made mistakes, distin cannot play right side due to being left footed and having no ability on the ball at all, so is not good enough, he was good when we sogned him, 5 years ago that was mate, he's not good enough anymore, i'd prefer browning over both of alcaraz and distin, either way, martinez obviously prefers alcaraz over disin as do a lot of evertonians (check everton sites) so I will stick with the managers choice on this one cheers

Swan, there is no point getting in to a debate with someone like you tbh. You change the goal posts to suit your argument of the day. Again, in one post you slate Howard for being at fault for most of the goals conceded, now it's Distin. And, as a bonus, you are blaming him for Jags being out of sorts at the start of the campaign! Next you will be telling us you have watched AA since you was 5 yrs old so you know what you're talking about :)

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Nov 2014 23:26:33
Oh Sorry I said distin was at fault for most of Our goals? Can you copy and paste where I specifically say that and quote me on it, if not, you're the one changing the goal posts to suit your argument, funny how I make a point and it doesn't get reversed, so people count on insults, in this case, something really stupid I said about me watching rio ferdinand for 15 years as I got desperate after refusing to call him the greatest centre back to ever grace a football pitch, now I apparently blame a different player for our goals every weak, despite it being howard last week and well, no one else at any point, ever, I said distin is finished, that's about best I can put it, if next week baines has a stinker and I say he was poor today does that mean i'm blaming him for every goal we've conceded this season? Well if so, all our players are perfect, no faults at all, leon osman makes usain bolt look like jonny vegas, sylvain distin makes franz beckenbaur look like per koldrup and tim howard makes neville southall look like richard wright, there we go, negativity is non-existent, we will win the legue, the cup, europa league and every competition from now and continuing indefinitely I reckon

hahaha I was taking the piss, it wasn't a personal attack so chill out lad! You implied he was at fault (after reading it back) for 13 goals in 5 games. Yet the other day you was blaming Howard for nearly all we have conceded so far, that is the point I was making. And you and negativity go hand in hand so we know you're messing on the last part! I was taking the piss again with the last bit, did you notice.

03 Nov 2014 11:26:59
I said we conceded 13 goals in the 5 games he ha played, I didn't say he was at fault for 13 goals in 5 games, but our record is considerably better with alcaraz or stones alongside jagielka then when distin is playing, sarcasm is waste on me as negativity and me go hand in hand, i'm in a good mood tody aswell mate, we will agree to disagree

So how do you sum up that result? Clearly it was a game we dominated without really threatening. Mcgeady had a good game for a change and the final ball to Eto just wasnt coming quick enough a clean sheet again and another game unbeaten but we need to start playing with a higher level of intensity in order to break teams down. All in all good result but should have been all 3 points

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We knuckle down and win our next one that's what we have to do Coyb imwt.

Interesting banter about Hope coming back from loan - and comments about being played out of position.
Here's just a thought. RM generally sets up with one mobile hard-working out-and-out centre-forward and a fluid attacking three behind him. He's played Lukaku wide-right on occasion and has also played Eto'o in a slightly withdrawn role. Naismith has shown his adaptability too.
Given the above, perhaps the likes of Hope - and McAleny and Long and the other U-21 and U-18 forwards at the club - would have more chance of the first-team if they could fill any of the front four attacking positions. Maybe that was part of the loan arrangement that we're not aware of - to try Hope in different attacking positions when possible.
The only young forward at the moment who looks to me like he might crack it and become a regular first-team player is Henen, although Long has shown some good stuff and I haven't seen enough of the others recently to have a considered opinion on them (whatever that might be worth!).

I've often heard RM speak about the need for our team to play with 'intensity' and to be 'perfect' in what it does.
That being the case, it's understandable that when we aren't playing with that 'intensity' and when we're not 'perfect' - that is, when we're making mistakes instead - that's when the results are poor and the performances are inadequate.
Now I accept that players will make mistakes, but as long as their heads don't drop, and they learn, and they keep trying, then I live with it.
As for intensity, it's clear to me that players need to be rotated and given time to fully recover mentally and physically. Our recent injury situation hasn't helped - I'm sure we've had to select players who weren't ready - but as the players come back I imagine we'll do better.

Does anyone know what's happened to Junior?
Even the official club site shows him as having squad number 30, which is actually the squad number of Antolin Alcaraz.
He's named in our registered Premier League squad (but hasn't got near the team or the bench this season), but was omitted from our Europa League squad (because we had no room for him ahead of the preferred players I guess).
Why hasn't he already been shipped out - at least on loan again?
