And so it begins. Manchester United should sack moyes and 'let' Martinez take over from him a second time. This from matt lawton of the daily mail. They've moved on from trying to sell our players now they are trying to influence other clubs to take our manager. They really can't stang it can they? They did it with gargoyle for years the difference is were now finishing above the teams who they want to take our manager. If there's any justice in life ginger nut will get the sack and we'll finish 4th there would be countless burst blood vessels amongst the filth on fleet street.

Fantastic post sheeds. Well said

I agree mate, if anyone deserves 4th spot its us. We've put up with the 'underdog'/'selling club' labels for too long. We're on the up!

Mushy cheer up man united are starting to sound like Moyes, another year no investment there budget is bigger than ours ffs mate come on we are 1 point of 4th with 3 games remaining if we get it we get it if not then so be it at least we have a manager now with a vision and not resting it all on money I think we had a brilliant season and I can really see Martinez bringing back the good times to Everton so cheer up mate and enjoy bright future ahead.

Great result tonight (remember I'm still in Thailand and the game finished gone midnight). I thought James McCarthy was tremendous in central midfield alongside Gareth Barry, always preventing UTD coming forward and was strong in the tackle. What was that Rooney resulting challenge about however? Looked to have a touch of the red mist about it possibly.
During the game (despite the presence of my missus sitting next to me ) I was still asked about Kompany more than once. I tried to explain several times that it was never going to happen. cost, wages, circumstances and the likelihood of CL football being a dream etc, although why the Thais have this obsession with Man City players during Everton matches, I'm still not sure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to agree Daveyboy, thought our midfield two were fantastic, others will get the plaudits but McCarthy was superb. He never stopped running, tackling, covering for Coleman . MOM clearly

Agree0 Disagree0

So love the saying, "Two thirds of the planet is covered by water, the rest is covered by McCarthy". So true yesterday he was back to his best and was immense.

{Ed025's Note - love it howie.. :)

Can't believe I'm reading someone dripping, 3 points from the last 2 games is acceptable, Arsenal could well slip up yet, don't they have Newcastle next?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Anything can happen, even the Black Cats beat City. Good win today. How about a serious bid of 3 million and a clown wig for Felli?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think 3m is doing us any favours BITU, i think we have gone past his style of play mate..

Eating humble pie now ED. I previouslt said I didn't rate Alcaraz, but I have to say, even though I was bricking it when he came one, he was as cool as a cucumber. Just frustrating he is injured so much!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he is very comfortable on the ball QB, and i know he is injured a lot mate, but he was a free, and will be a good squad member..

I suppose that being free is another plus also. Hoping Distin is back for Southampton though.

What a result today I had the misfortune of having to watch the match with a United fan as I live in Catterick garrison and can't get away to watch EFC as much as would like.We have not beaten United twice in one season since the 69-70 campaign, we took them apart today with super Kev and coleman looking sharp as well as Tim and Naisey, another solid performance from Mc and Barry in midfield and even Alcaraz looked good! I could go on however the United fans will cry. Bobbie you are amazing and long may you stay COYB.

Fantastic performance. Just one thing that seems to have gone unnoticed. why was Jones not sent off for his hand ball? Surely a goal scoring opportunity. a shot on target that is stopped with a hand ball? I guess it does not matter now, but at the time, I seemed to be the only one shouting it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Degsy one reason Clattenburg. Totally biased. Why did we not get two penalties before the one we did. A flawed and suspect Kopite. Should be struck off the list.

Well done today boys on a great result and performance. My mate toffee tezza is enjoying a few jars as we speak with his mate dirty manc dave. Enjoy tezza!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cheers, Degsy. Not a happy lot, the Man U fans now. Dave even said he wished we'd beaten them 5 or 6 nil, then Moyes would be sacked! I reminded him that he has a 6 year contract so they should get used to his free flowing, expansive, attacking style of play! You should have heard the language he used, shocking!

Stunning display from the Blues today. McCarthy was immense but it was great to see Mirallas play so well. He's been off his form for a while, but today there were glimmers of his magic. I was quite glad to hear that there wasn't too much booing of Moyes today, as I believed that ultimately it could have affected our players more than theirs, given the history they've got with him, for better or for worse. After our form this year, if Moyes is still in charge of United next season, he can add Goodison Park to his ever growing list of places 'we'd be lucky to get out alive from'. Although I think he still feels that most about Old Trafford! COYB!

Okay well done for today but a reality check please!
This time last year we were above L'pool, today they basically have won the Prem, today we beat the worst Man U team I have seen since the 80s and as I posted earlier we now have the delight of the Europa League to look forward to.
'Oh but you've done well' is the usual patronising comment I get from other supporters, sorry guys but Nil Satis. would rather have 7th spot.
And can somebody ask Mirellas to practice taking corners? Sorry guys but, 'Always the Bridesmaid and never the Bride' has struck in tonight!
We rejoicing over a win against a very average team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - get a grip mushy..we just whacked the team with the best away record, gained our 20th win(our prem record), and we have our highest points tally with 3 still to play, not only that, but we are doing it with style and vigour..come on mate..feel the love..

We are going to miss out again ed on a Champions League spot, no investors interested for another year!
A good season but very disappointed over our failure to get 4th spot

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its not over yet mushy..keep the faith mate..

What's up, Mushy? Didn't you get any Easter eggs?! Bit grim, mate considering we won against a team a little bit against the odds since the banana skin of Crystal Palace. I thought our boys played great today, when they could have bottled it or been tired after Wednesday. Can't take that away from them, regardless of how Utd played. Martinez knew what he was doing at the beginning of the season and he'll know what he's doing if we get Europa or even Champions league.

Great post Mushy, totally agree.

The scale of the display of the lads that played today is further impressive considering we played a mid week game on wednesday, whereas the fully fresh Manchester United team had 11 days to prepare for this epic encounter. Won't repeat how well particular players performed today, but a massive team display and result which could potentially inspire us to grab 4th spot from arsenal yet. We must take the mentality of one game at a time, but feel we must win our remaining games and hope arsenal slip up in one of their remaining games. I have my hopes set on either them drawing away at st james' park or possibly their last game against norwich who could be fighting for survival and that last game being just 6 days before their cup final vs hull. Fingers toes and anything else you can cross is crossed from now until 11th may.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i cant see the barcodes doing us any favours craig, but the norwich one could just be..

1. Chelsea FC: Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the owner of the club, has spent £673 million on transfer fees, making it the leading spender. It is reported that he had given free hand to team manager Roberto Di Matteo to transform the club into an exciting one. The club spent hefty amount this season too by hiring big names like Fernando Torres, Eden Hazard, Oscar Dos Santos, Victor Moses, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marko Marin.

2. Manchester City: With a spending of £572 million, Manchester City is the second biggest spender in the English Premier League. Manager Roberto Mancini has already signed Jack Rodwell and David Pizarro this year, and is likely to sign a few more including Arsenal's Theo Walcott.

3. Liverpool FC: With a spending of £414 million in the last decade, Liverpool is the third biggest spender. Brendan Rodgers has signed Nuri Sahin, Oussama Assaidi, Joe Allen and Fabio Borini this season too

Class performance from the boys today., . Martinez outfoxed Moyes who came & tried to play us at own passing game, but Bobby played completely the opposite & counter attacked brilliantly, proving that as a manager he can adapt his style of play when needed & approaches every match differently & with great tactical no-how. that's 24 out of a possible 27 points now which incidentally is premier league title winning form. our transition period is now well & truly over & if we can start next season playing with this kind of intensity & consistency we will undoubtedly be fighting it out for the title!! Thought McCarthy was truly outstanding today, as was Coleman. Lukaku's control was very poor today, but he did carry a presence & won a few important headers - still think Wilfried Bony is everything that Romelu isn't at the mo in that his hold up play is second to none & well we all know about his goalscoring ability, so would definitely rather sign him in the summer, would represent great value at £15 million! C.o.y.b!!

When was the last time we took 6 points off Man U?
It just shows what a fantastic first season from Roberto and the boys it has been.
I would love to keep Del Boy and lukaku but the biggest signing for me has to be Barry. Hope to god we can keep him.
He has been superb all season with McCarthy
Keep going blue boys we are proud of you

Barry has hinted he would like to stay beyond his loan and I'm sure this is down to not only how roberto's welcomed him into our squad and gave him playing time, but the superb support and appreciation given to him by the efc faithful. As for deloufeu, I can almost certainly see him playing at efc next season as he is not ready for the barca 1st team or even competing for a place in their squad yet. Lukaku has blown hot and cold this season, I have no doubt the guy will be a top class centre forward with more experience, but don't think we can rely on him covering two competitions next season due to his fitness troubles (not so much injuries, but tiredness due to lack of resting time). I feel if we splash the cash on rom, we will struggle whereas if we go for 2 strikers in the summer with funds that would be available we would cope much better. My personal choices would be 2 of remy, bony or batshuayi which would cost us I believe the same as rom would cost us from chelsea (not to mention chelsea would not be holding us to ransom swapping ross for romelu)

Hahoo! What a beautiful day. what a wonderful season. 20 wins so far! More points than in any previous EPL season. A double over Utd. A penalty too. a first against Utd in 35 years! I'm sure that there's more. Thanks for all the noise everyone, it sounded terrific. My thanks to the team for a very polished performance. Guys, make it 5 next game as it should have been today!

Howard-7-really good save to deny rooney and a good catch from evans header. Coleman-9-what a player, him and super kev tormented butter all game, he's just so exciting. Stones-7.5-not on the ball as much as usual but he defended very well. Distin-7-solid again, hope it isn't a bad injury. Baines-8-was class today, had nani in his back pocket and was so calm on the ball. Barry-8.5-class again, everything he does is so good to watch. Mccarthy-9-phenominal, his passing and his tenacity, had mata and kagawa quiet all game, what a player. Mirallas-8-worked hard, took his goal well and made butter look woeful, which he is. Naismith-8-he has the greatest leap I have seen in an everton shirt, maybe better than cahills, he jumps with anyone and isn't scared, shame he dodnt score. Barkley-6-wait, before you post something bad, he slips more than the killer from scream, he tries to do everything fancy, doesn't have to, just do the basics. Lukaku-7-his touch was woeful and when he is running its like he dunno where the ball is, was well up for it though and the way he grabbed the badge when he nearly scored was lovely, won headers today too!. Alcaraz-8-i thought he was under a bit of pressure coming on, heard whispers, people saying they would come back into it with him at centre back, he was solid, his touch and last ditch tackling and passing was brilliant, he's like stones only his passing range is greater, still class. Osman-7-cam on and calmed things down, was tidy on the ball. Mcgeady-6-was on for a few seconds. What a result, coleman is superb and antolin did well when he came on, let's just carry on what we are doing, the atmosphere was brilliant and the game was special, there was just something about this result, it just felt right, wasnt about moyes, I didn't boo him once today believe it or not, just watched the game and really enjoyed it, the school of science is back!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post mate, agree with Barkley too. Also didn't really like how he looked on the bench having been taken off. Seems to have a bit of an attitude.

Why when you pass the ball to Lukaku does his legs act like pinball machine bumpers.it bounces all over the place.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Try given the kid a break I think without him an his goals this year we would be sitting about seventh in the league

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Dentielad. That made me laugh. It is the weakest part of his game. although some of the passes today to him were over hit. ie too strong that anyone would have difficulty controlling the ball.

What a huge game ahead of us today, I can't remember being so nervously excited in a long time.im stuck between two views of the game ahead. On one hand I've still got the Moyes mentality, hard to get rid of after 11 years unfortunately, this is what if we lose with both Utd and spurs then breathing down our necks our Run in becomes very pressurized. On the other hand there's the ever positive Roberto's view that if we win we look above and at champs league and we just relax and play freely. This Game is massive for us, please Roberto help exorcise this last piece of Moyes negativity in me and Free us all from ever seeing the glass half full again.COYB.

Not everton related I know but rodellagas response to loris save yesterday was brilliant, it reminded me of playing football with my friends when I was a kid, good to see that sort of behaviour from footballers at the end of the day it's a game and games are meant to be fun!

Naismith, this season has been outstanding. He doesn't stand out as much as someone like Del body but has end product. He seems to blend in more with the attack and contributes to the attack well, rather than trying to take on the whole defence on his own.He also links the attacking play up very nicely, and he has a very good touch. I think we missed him sorely on Wednesday, as well as McCarthy, and them too transformed our performance when they came on. For me, on form, he is one of the first names on the team sheet. I even liked Naismith last season, but he is really showing himself now. He is a joy to watch, as is our team as a whole. I predicting 3 points today and looking forward to the spectacle.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more looks a tidy little player, good touch and good finisher too.(other than against Sunderland after that class turn), he never gives up works very hard and I think is a great little player to have knocking on the door and keeping up the competition for places

The whinging sarcastic response that Mourinho came out with re the referee's performance yesterday highlighted to me how biased referees can be. On the tv sports page they quote from the Fair Play league. We currently lie 3rd in the fair play league. Yes the reds are top. Have they behaved in a more "fair play" way? Well the statistics suggest otherwise. They have accumulated 12 more points from having slightly fewer bookings and sendings off. But the main difference is the respect towards the referee and "positive play" which I believe is also judged by the officials. They also score more for the behaviour of their officials. So although we have played more fair, there is an obvious slant from the match officials towards their club overall. I cannot believe that our club staff behave worse than theirs. I also cannot believe that we deserve less points for positive play? It seems to me that given they have had 12 penalties this season (probably more than we have had in 10 years) and all their match official scores are higher, they must be all angels and well behaved. I must remember that when I see Skirtl grabbing and Suarez biting and diving. Oh and when Stevie and the rest surround the referee trying to get someone booked. The point of my rant is not that I am bothered by the Fair Play league. rather that it highlights an obvious bias from match officials to one club over another. Well Clattenburg today. need I say more?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

These stats are a joke Degsy and you're quite right to highlight the water rat's theatricals when going to ground and Skrtel's attempts to swap shirts fron corners and free kicks. The fact that they've conned referees more times than any other club this season is something they should feel ashamed of. And Clattenburg should be prevented from ever officiating them again.

Why aren't Liverpool being slated by the media for using the loan system for loaning out players that have won the title for them? Just read this somewhere.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I imagine it's because the two players they've brought in on loan - Moses and Cissokho - haven't been as influential for them as Barry, Lukaku and Deulofeu have been for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah basically everyone can have loan players but if they actually make an impact that's not ok. What?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he means borini at sunderland

Agree0 Disagree0

I was mentioning Borini.

Agree0 Disagree0

I appreciate that the OP was commenting about the players loaned OUT by that lot across the park (like Borini at Sunderland) and in particular how they've affected certain recent results, but the media seem to have a bigger problem with us because of the loans that we've brought IN, especially with how successful and effective the players have been for us.

Looking forward to the game today. Don't care about Felli, Moyes or Rooney, just want our boys to turn up and get the three points. Raise the roof boys!

One other point is we are still looking at Arsenal as our main competition for fourth place. Citeh are having a major wobble since being battered by reds. They are dropping points left, right and centre. All these teams at the bottom of the league are fighting for their lives, Arsenal easy run in? Only Newcastle who are truly dire down at the bottom. Citeh to drop more points and come to Goodison. What a season, thanks Bobby Brown Shoes
