I think we have become a much more entertaining side under Martinez, but also a lot more predictable. The tactic of playing out from the back will cost us goals and Distin, who receives most of the balls from Howard, has almost become our main play maker - a role he is clearly not comfortable with.

On a more positive note, I think Barry is a great acquisition and I believe McCarthy will develop into a key player for us and a top player in the PL. Joe

Anyone who has read any of my past posts will know that I loved Moyes whilst he was with us. However, I got to laugh at a very strange situation. Felli was great for us at rescuing points when we shoved him up front and used him as a big target man. ie one to lump high balls up to with 10 mins to go. As a holding midfielder, he was pretty good too, but not your typical Manchester United player. He scored some very valuable goals for us when we lumped it up to him or he was up front as a second target to the center forward. Moyes then pays 26? million for him and he looks like a fish out of water at Old Traff. We then sign McCarthy for 13 million who looks like a real on the ball midfielder. the sort that Manchester United would slot straight into their team. Another Roy Keane type of player but not as dirty. As I say. you got to laugh.

Got to agree degs he was awful by all accounts yesterday felli, he got the shepherds hook didn't he? which he rarely got playing for us unless the game was sealed and apart from wigan in the cup game last season. In an earlier post I did say Mccarthy looks like he will become a top player for us, and your right with the comparison to Roy Keane that's who he reminded me of at times when watching him yesterday. If he becomes half the player keane was we wil stillhave one hell of a player on our hands.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're spot on Degs. It was a typical case of him being worth 27 million to us but not even 7 million to them. Where as Mcarthy is going to be a bargain at for what we paid.

Nice one mate.

I'm stony-faced. I'm an Everton supporter - what United do, unless they're playing us, is of not interest to me. I suspect you'll soon be referring to yourself in the third person.

Agree0 Disagree0

As I said Mr anonymous poster.I loved Moyes when he was with us and all I am doing is making observations about current and past Everton players. I suggest you cheer up and smile a bit. That's what I am doing.

Baines going to sign 4 an half year contract will be announced next month .this is from a very close source to his family, who all summer was adamant that he was staying .theres no way he's going to utd the way it's going now with moyes and Felliani .his World Cup place is more secure at everton .hes happy with Martinez .this source is adamant that he's going to finish his career at everton .he also stated that he's very close with gerrard and understood his remarks about Barkley playin for the club he loves .wants to enjoy his final years and feels a move to utd now is the wrong time as they are in transition with the possibility of turmoil .

Hit the nail on the head degsy.i was chuffed we got 27 mill for felli. And was equally chuffed to get McCarthy.the price didn't bother me as he is a great prospect and it'll pay for itself in the long run.as some1 posted earlier he reminds me of a paul bracewell type player.im expecting great things from the kid

Agree0 Disagree0

Fellaini shined for us when he played up top and that's were he played for the most part last season, defenders were unsure to go to him or stand off him and of course a target man in the box, I never rated him as a holding midfielder he dosnt have the passing range that goes with playing that role, yes he can brake up the play but now and again just let players run past him flicking a leg out likes its enough, i'd say he was moyes buy more than a right player for there team

Agree0 Disagree0

The best thing about it is that Felli was constantly itching for a move away from Everton because he thought he was better than Everton - WRONG! haha

He even made a crass statement last month that he liked being at United because they had better players than at Everton - yeah, if so, that includes you as well you half wit muppet!

Fellaini stood out as a good player for us because Moyes played things around him and to his strengths - but that's in a top 6 team - he's not a premier league winning player - he's way too slow - you can see him jogging slowly around the pitch - and that skied shot he had yesterday when he couldn't get his big leg in position quickly enough had me howling

27million! LOL! laughing all the way to the bank!

Agree0 Disagree0

That's pretty much how I see it, good player when a team plays to his strengths but looks like a spare part at Utd, incredibly lethargic. He may come good of moyes resorts to his favoured tactic of hoofball but I can't see the prawn sandwich brigade taking to that, somehow.
Let's be honest he's not the sharpest tool in the box, and if moyes finds himself out of a job at Utd Fellaini could be pining for a move back here. But, he's made his bed, the grass is rarely greener when you leave the old lady.

please don't compare McCarthy to Keane. they are nothing alike. Keane dominated games, grabbed them by the scruff of the neck. he was a destructive midfielder who could pass an score goals, as well as being an outstanding leader. I am a fan of McCarthy and I think he'll be a good player, just not to that level.

Agree0 Disagree0

In my opinion, Fellaini has to play behind the striker. I honestly think he is the best at what he does. He has the best chest in world football. We aren't talking about lumping it anywhere to him. A controlled long pass into his chest in and around the box is unstoppable when he is on form. Imagine Rooney and van persie playing off that sort of target. People call it long ball, it's not. Some of our best football last year came from a ball up to him, and then intricate pass and move following the knockdown. We all know a motivated and fully functioning Fellaini being played in his right position is an unstoppable force. His desire to move evidently affected his later performances. At Utd they should have the Fellaini we had when he pretty much beat them on his own. Moyes needs to have the balls to play him where he should play and not as a defensive mid because he is not effective there.
Hank

Agree0 Disagree0

The only thing is felli came out and said his best position is defensive mid when we were playing behind the striker, he moved there second half of last season and didn't stand out at all

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes - please please please keep playing donkey Fellaini anywhere you want! He's a two or three trick pony - not the full package - and Fellaini will get you 6th to 7th in the league at best because of the type of football he plays

Loving it - they deserve each other for disrespecting everton!

Did we have a full house yesterday?

If we did have a full house 40, 221 fans watched. that's not a bad fan base for any potential investor!

Keep it going boys!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was sold out

Agree0 Disagree0

It was sold out, but I could still see a few empty seats from where I sat. I can't imagine it was over 40,000, but will be as close as we've come recently.

Agree0 Disagree0

So almost a full house. So if a new investor does come in and wants to build a stadium what capacity do they go for?

Like swansea the liberty was designed to be added to so that they could increase capacity.

Do you think 50,000 to start? As we all know nothing worse than playing in an empty stadium. Balance would have to be right to balance books with revenues earned through bums on seats.

A ground where the fans are still close to players would also be great. Great acoustics.

If anyone has ever been to Millenium stadium in Cardiff, a version of that would do me.
In my opinion fantastic feeling. 80,000 capacity there but gr8 atmosphere especially with roof closed.

Any orher recommendations?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why move from Goodison? {Ed025's Note - is that a real question?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes. Why do we need to move from Goodison? It's an historic site, a big part of what we are about as a club. Moving from Goodison to a B&Q style warehouse stadium somewhere off the Knowsley Expressway just doesn't appeal personally. I'm not entirely convinced the prawn sandwich demographic (who'd supposedly fill the hundreds of corporate boxes) actually exist either. It's like we're trying to ape some 90s idea of what accountants thought football should be about. It's an unpopular opinion in an age of conspicuous consumption, but why waste money on a new stadium when you've got a perfectly good one already? {Ed025's Note - i hear what your saying mate, and love the history of the place, but lets be honest...its a mausoleum of a stadium, if we really want to move forward, we need a new one..in my opinion anyway..

Agree0 Disagree0

'Mausoleum' is a bit strong! Not when the crowd are in full voice. If it was an Allianz, I'd be all for it, but it will inevitably look like Speke Retail Park with a pitch in the middle. I'm not letting nostalgia get in the way of common sense, Ed, I just feel Goodison is the focal point (and it's actually in Everton). If the Premier league is as lucrative as we're led to believe, then stadia revenue can't be the key factor in keeping clubs afloat. {Ed025's Note - i imagine a lot will agree with you mate, for me its past its sell by date, but im sure loads of the guys think like you..

Agree0 Disagree0

I love going to goodison myself mate but have you been to away games? we are miles behind in terms of facilities e.t.c. and we will never move foward if we stay at a ground so run down in parts which we are also unable to redevelop, if we had won the kings dock years ago I gurantee we would have had a takeover by now. add to that the main reason we struggle to fill the ground is because so much is restricted views, again love goodison but we can't stay there forever

Agree0 Disagree0

Do we think there is enough scope to redevelop Goodison and have a stadium big enough?
I would love to see Goodison redeveloped, but I think it would have limitations.

If we do have to leave Goodison as Evertonians what would be a preferable location? {Ed025's Note - i dont think there is enough scope to re-develop goodison AW, the infrastructure is not right. for me kings dock was the ideal place, but i would still want the stadium to remain within the city boundary..
