eto, o looks like the most likely striker to join. hope we do get him as it would be good optition for us to have. him rom and kone when fit would be decent strike force ideal strike force would be rom remy eto, o and kone but can't see it happening though

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think Eto'o would take much of a cut in wages tbh. I'm still holding out for a miracle in the form of Wilfreid Bony. I can dream, can't I?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think etoo will come along with diame and that idea of gibson swap deal looks likely now with diame set to come in

i see that fellaini has nominated moyes to do the ice bucket challenge.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Will Moyes nominate Sir Alex, I hope so.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sir Alex would probably do it if it was Gin mixed in with the ice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anderson has nominated him

As things stand, by my reckoning we have room in our registered Premier League squad of 25 aged-over-21 players for three new additions. Anyone aged-over-21 who's not in this registered squad won't be eligible to play in the Premier League. We can use as many aged-under-21 players as we like for the Premier League.
For the Europa League, we'd have to include players like Lukaku and Stones in the full 25-man squad as, although they're under 21, they need to have been with us for two years. We can use as many aged-under-21 players as we like for the Europa League, as long as the player has been with us for at least two years.
So, if we have Lukaku and Stones in the Europa League squad, that means there's room for just one new addition - unless one or more of the current players is omitted. Note that we can't drop Hibbert, Osman, Duffy or McAleny from the Europa League squad, as their our four mandatory club-trained players. We also need four mandatory association-trained players - we have five: Baines, Jagielka, McCarthy, Barry and Gibson. We can only have a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players - we currently have 13, which with the 9 homegrown players gives us the 22 I've referred to.
Here's the question for you:
who would you omit from the Europa League squad in order to accommodate any new additions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's no wonder clubs field ineligible players. Fair play Sid - great knowledge and post. Read it twice and still confused. Will read it again in the morning. Think I need a lie down now.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a tough one Sid, as I'd hate to rob any of our squad of the opportunity to play in Europe. It Might be unwise, but I might omit Naismith (if I really had to), to keep him the reliable, pivotal force he has proven to be in the league and cup games. Although his leadership, example and resilience would be an asset in any game. Assuming Kone is fit, I'd play him in the Europe games as he has more experience on that stage.

All this information is in the "Regulations of the UEFA Europa League Season 2014-2015" that can be downloaded as a PDF from the UEFA website.
The Premier League handbook for 2014-2015 can be downloaded as a PDF from the Premier League website.
The info is all there - squad sizes, transfer windows, academy setups, player contracts, and loads of conditions about stadium facilities, broadcasting, media interviews, etc., etc. - if you can understand the legalese that a lot if it is written in and wade through page after page.
Enjoy ;-)

Tedster: re eligibility of players, my understanding of the Legia Warsaw (Celtic) issue is that the player in question didn't participate in the previous round's two legs (Legia's first matches in the competition since the suspension was incurred), because Legia assumed they'd count as the two matches he'd be suspended for. However, Legia hadn't registered him in their squad for those matches so - technically - he wasn't serving his suspension during those matches. In other words, Legia should have included him in their registered 25-squad even though he couldn't have played those two matches anyway because of the suspension!

Seen stories about Roberto saying we "might" need to dip into the transfer market. For one of, if not the, first time under Roberto, I feel slightly worried, we need to dip into the market, not "might need to". My opinion is that Lukaku and Kone is not a good enough striking option for a season in which we have to play Europa, meaning we're competing in 4 competions. I think we need a minimum of 2 players in order to think our squad has improved from last season; a striker and an attacking midfielder preferably.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im with you there tony mate..

I'm sure that's just Bobby keeping his cards close to his chest again. We'll surely sign at least one more, or maybe two loans, but I expect Bobby will be planning ahead to the January window as well. Especially if we lose any players to the African cup of nations.

I'm sure RM has his targets and several options in the positions he needs to cover, however he will keep these under wraps as he won't want to end up in a bidding war that will drive the prices up so we overspend on a player.

Agree0 Disagree0

RM's a wily kind of guy, very savvy in the transfer market imo>>>

Just cannot envisage him buying/loaning without thorough consideration!

We don't even know our EL campaign strategy yet ( 18th Sept. ) against? etc.

So Martinez refusing to rule out signing Eto'o. and with Liverpool signing balotelli looks like Samuel will be coming to us. what u think ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i trust in bobby amo, but dont rate eto at all mate..

If blackburn accept hulls 8 mill bid for rhodes ,I think we should match it.he scores goals, end of. Good poacher and seems to have good movement to get Into goalscoring positions. Better option than eto. Looking for his big payday, then probably play half heartedly.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a good shout dentielad, he's a prolific goal scorer and has done it consistently for Huddersfield Town (73 goals 124 games) and Blackburn Rovers (51 goals 92 games). He can provide plenty on back-up for Lukaku imo. He's also 9 years younger than Samuel Eto'o and won't be demanding extortionate wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep, just like Beckford did ehh.

I would like to see Remy signed, how about you Ed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i have said no when asked before GB, but as things stand at the moment, i would take him in a heartbeat mate..

He's also going to be 10 million more expensive. Don't know what is with all the negative eto comments, yeah he's 33 but everyone was calling for villa last season who is the same age. Will be a great back up for one season, probably the same people who were so anti Gareth Barry before he came and then were dying for us to make it permanent. We're everton not man city where they can afford to buy 4 great strikers. Stop moaning and let Martinez choose who he thinks is best.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2014 19:54:03
Who is moaning?,I think we are all entitled to give our views,in Bobby we trust

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair point Honest Blue, but (just playing devil's advocate here!) David Villa can probably prove he's 33!

Agree0 Disagree0

It don't matter if Rhodes would be 10 mill more. For the wages Eto'o would want i'd spend the money on Rhodes. People talk about sell on value nowadays, no one is going to pay a fee for Eto'o. Rhodes if successful could be worth a lot in years to come.

Here's my ideal remainder of the transfer window.

In
- Remy
- Holtby (loan with view to buy)
- Richards
- Song (loan with view to buy)

Out
- Gibson

Would love to see Remy in permanently, 12.5 mil is a good price for a player who has scored in the PL and shows he can still get better although is nearing his prime.

Holtby is a lifelong blue fan and with Barkley out an extra number 10 will certainly not go astray. Wouldn't be jumping at the chance to take him permenantly, would see how he goes and see if he can handle the league before we play the transfer game with Levy.

We really do need more quality in CB and RB. Hibbert can't do it and I'd prefer Richards over Alcaraz. Would be available at a decent price for a player who does have great experience already.

Song was quality in his last couple seasons with Arsenal and certainly would help our CM stocks. Although Barry is still a good player, he's only getting older. While Gibson is a good player I'd rather have someone who can stay on the pitch for more than a couple of weeks running.

Whatever happens, I hope Bobby isn't under the illision that Lukaku and Kone can get us into the top 4. A striker is the position we really need and then defensive backup for CB/RB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is he happy with remy/any decent ST and some cover at RB, I have every confidence Naismith and Osman can cover Ross for a couple of months, but stones and Hibbert covering Coleman is a disaster waiting to happen

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take a chance on Holtby. Always good to have a player who already loves the club come in and try to earn his place in the club he has supported since was a kid. Another option might be Graham Zusi, the American midfielder who Martinez spoke highly of during the world cup. Might not be a perfect fit, or everyone else's choice, but Martinez raved about Besic and this guy during his time commentating at the World up, so you never know.

Agree0 Disagree0

Any news on Holtby? definitely worth a look seems to be able to play across the middle decent footballer and he's a blue got to be worth a £4-5m bid

I see that 'Arry's latest target for QPR is Alex McCarthy, the Reading keeper. Seeing Robles' performances pre-season causes me concern should anything happen to Tim and the 3rd choice kid is nowhere near ready. Alex McC is a fine stopper and kicker who commands his box with clear instructions to his defence. I believe he would jump at the chance to come to Goodison with an opportunity to prove himself in the Europa League. Why are we waiting?

Rumours I have heard over the last two weeks.
-Deulofeu loan.
-Song loan, with the option to buy
-Henen, no idea what stage this is at?
-Traore, back on loan.
-Remy, could involve a player going QPR's way.
-Chantome, permanent :O. CM for P$G.
-Isco, loan.
-Eto'o, one year contract. could cost £££ though
-Morgan Amalfitano, I think this is the lad who was at West Brom last year? Scored that solo goal against United when he chipped De Gea, if he can do that I will have him.
-Max Clayton, who is now apparently on trial.
-Holtby, loan with permanent. but as per usual Tottenham aren't willing to co-operate, and they will only let him leave on a permanent.
-Lacazette, don't know much about him young lad, striker, linked with us and West Ham. o
-Cuadrado/Guadrado, which ever one is the Columbian.

Now from that I would say we need 2/3 more.
A striker, A winger, and an Attacking Midfielder (Due to Ross)
Ideally I would have Remy, Deulofeu and Isco. oh just let me dream.

The original post is good banter and has some interesting suggestions.
Additionally, may I suggest that everyone watches RM's press conference - the video is on the official club website - as he speaks about the players' fitness and his approach to any likely transfers. I've no doubt that many rumours in the media - social and press - have some truth in them about ongoing situations (like an "interest" in a particular player), but I always listen to what RM says as being a better indicator of what might actually be happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think u mean the mexian which is guardo sorry spelling as cuardo had bid made for him for 35 mil

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless you have a spare £40 million in your back pocket, I don't think we'll be getting Cuadrado any time soon.

Hey eds do u honestly think we'll be making any more signings and if so where do u think Roberto will strengthen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i would hope so kingy, we still need a couple at least if we are going to challenge for a top 6 finish, imo we still need a striker, and cover in defence as a bare minimum mate..

With Europa league >>>domestic cup comps. and the all important PL >>>

It's imperative we have the squad to compete!

Btw Ed I like your avi. and was wondering >>>

Did Ed001 suggest it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - yes he did 247 the cheeky sod :)....and i agree mate we do need some quality back ups with all the games we will have this season..
