I understand people being a bit worried by another winger being linked. Just keep in mind that pienaar left, whose place has been taken over by bolasie. Mcgeady has no place, although he doesn't strictly need to be replaced. Del boy looks like he will be played more central. This means we have bolasie, mirallas and lennon (don't think he deserves to be moved on but could understand if he was for a replacement) and delboy if needed. Over the last few seasons, people like ross and c osman have had to play lw.

Maybe RK is going to play a 3 2 2 2 1 formation all wingers :)

If this link for Brahimi is true, then I've got to say I'm a bit worried about the way the club is being run and think we may become the new Liverpool, in terms of every single season we spend absurd amounts of money on players we don't need, just because we like how they look, and completely neglect the positions we clearly do need to strengthen.

I've been begging for us to get some money and start splashing it for years, and it looks like we finally have it, but if they start splashing it in the wrong ways then we're not going to get anywhere. This squad is a few sensible investments away from a European place but also a few terrible signings away from a big drop.

I'm sorry but what an unnecessarily negative post.
What is it exactly that you are worried about that Moshiri and Kenwright have done in the last 5/ 6months?

21 Aug 2016 20:56:48
Ander Barkley your post for me doesn't make much sense. If things keep going they way they are with no signings or bad ones as you say we will still not be anywhere near 'a big drop'.

The club is heading in the right direction in every way possible. I'm having trouble believing it myself at times but I genuinely think we finally have the right people in place. They are well capable of making good decisions and will progress the club to becoming perennial European candidates imho.

Ye it's absolutely ridiculous buying players weeks before the window shuts, keeping us from watching Vinny Connors standing around in the dark to tell us what loan signing we may/ may not make in the last hour!
And this investment? It's shocking that the new man has started to get everything right behind the scenes, helping to make us a viable business compared to what we have had in the premier league era. He's even trying to sort out a new ground, can you believe the cheek of the man?
Sigh, some people are just never happy are they? RK will eventually have a team that consists of quality players, even the bench will be strong in comparison, so let's just enjoy the ride. Players are being sold for daft prices all over the league, not just to us, but as long as they improve on what we have then all is good. Chill mate, it's a good time to be a blue.

Absurds amount of money every year on players that aren't needed?

Lukaku? Needed.

Niasse 13 million wasn't absurd for another much need striker, shame hw wasn't a fit.

Wheere xid lennon, delo and mir get you last year?

Maybe more quality is needed.

Maybe another winger can come in so one of the above 3 can leave?

Just sign him. more the merrier. we away been a sell one buy one club. let's get a strong squad for once. other club do, why shouldn't we. get the lyon lad too. i want to see players fight for their places, not sully about because if they play bad then we need a kid to play instead. let em know the competition is here and now.

I have to say that I have been accused as being as negative as anyone. However, the spending of money is exactly what we do/ did need. Bolasi was a necessity. Williams was a necessity. Steckelenburg was a necessity. I for one think things have changed for the better. The last 3 years were for me a disaster and the progress we had made under Moyes was wiped clean with the exceptionof one or two signings. However, we now seem to once again be making better signings. Players who will make a difference. Even the ex Villa lad looks 10 times better in our system than he did at Villa. That must be put down to the managers ability to get the best out of players. I am actually enjoying this humble pie and have custard all over it. I am not getting too excited yet, but feel we have actually turned a corner.

Its a a long season but I suspect you are correct and Lennon will only feature when we have unavailability's. He is a good pro so will try to take his chance when he gets it.

21 Aug 2016 20:33:16
Was thinking exactly the same konehead. Whilst I still think Lennon is a half decent player, I do believe he will play a very small part this season if any at all especially if Ghezzal arrives. Personally I'd like to see the back of Mcgeady, kone, possibly Lennon and Oviedo as well. The latter two I actually think are decent players. Ins? Hart, Lamina Kone, Ghezzal and a top striker. I really believe we will be challenging top 6 this season and top 4 next season. Never been so optimistic. NSNO IRKWT.

Have to disagree on the Oviedo front, he provides great cover for Baines especially if we play a back three. I think he is well worth a squad place in the team at present.

{Ed025's Note - ghezzal is supposed to be good Tbone but i dont know enough about him to comment mate..

Thanks ed what's your view on hart joing us personaly i think were ok in goal we could do with a cm someone with an eye for a good pass mata would have been good.

{Ed025's Note - not harts biggest fan to be honest Tbone and it looks like begovic will be available so personally i would go for him, for me we need a forward badly and gabbiadini has been linked but im unsure about him, not mata,s biggest fan either mate..

21 Aug 2016 15:14:31
Am i the only one who wouldn't be too concerned if we didn't get Kone or Ghezzal, but i am concerned if we don't get 2 Strikers in soon. can't just go on Rom as only recognised Striker. I don't recognise A Kone as a Striker!

Our defending of corners and free kicks, needs a strong c/ back, we conceeded more goals from header than any other none relegated team last season, thus far, the two goals conceeded have been header.

Well we now have Jags, Funes Mori, Williams n Holgate one more is fine but not a priority in comparison to our lack of Strikers!

21 Aug 2016 19:54:45
JCW, as you will be aware these defending problems have been there for 2 years. It was evident at the last World Cup with Baines and Jagielka being caught out. I don't like being critical of them but the evidence is there, but was not addressed by the last manager. If I can see the weakness, then every opposition manager could see it and play to it. At least the new manager is doing what should have been done over the past 2seasons.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Aug 2016 22:39:28
The biggest problem we've had in the past regarding defending is through Moyes initially. He used to get the back four defending the cross and not trying to stop it in the first place.

It worked for him because the players trained on it all the time. Martinez as we know didn't. I'm not having a go at Moyes either but fans used to get on Baines and Coleman for not closing out the cross.

Koeman wants to stop the cross and if you look over the 1st two games we've done well at stopping them. However, it will take time to get used to Koeman and I'd fancy Baines, jags or anyone else to get to grips with it. Those two are getting on though and we will need to replace over the coming windows.

I'm with Howie on this though and we need to get at least one other striker ideally two. I'd also like to see a genuine challenger to Barry as well. McCarthy is clearly weaker to what both Barry and Gana have to offer and Besic is going to spend too much time on the treatment table.

I would like to thank Ed002 for all his very interesting comments and insight into transfer activities.
One comment that did get me thinking was the one about a player moving from the South of France to Merseyside being a big cultural issue. I was born and brought up Liverpool. I then spent time working in Widnes, Manchester, Bradford and then Connecticut, why because I needed a job.
Each step was a big cultural change in those days in the 1960-1970/ s. I remember when I lived in Meanwood, Leeds I would go up to the pub and order a pint in my Scouse accent and everyone would turn their backs. Don't even get me started about the cultural change when we moved to the US. If I was making the sort of money these players are making a few years in Liverpool would not be a hardship.

Blue Mike75,
I was also born in Liverpool and brought up, -- well, sort of way out in Huyton. I HATED scouse. Now I live in Florida and have to make my own scouse, which I love! On the other hand, reference culture shock, I cannot persuade the Italian-American side of my family to enter the same room with it!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - whats up with them yanks don?, you cant beat a good pan of scouse on a cold night with red cabbage or beetroot...if they ate more scouse instead of all them burgers and fries they would be a lot healthier nation mate..i could be like the jamie oliver of the states.. :)

Just read an interesting article on the similarities between us and man city in 2008. Where we have followed suit in bringing established premier league players in man city signed robinhio as a statement signing. Now this is where i took a step away from reality and thought we need another striker. Sticking to the brazilian theme 1 name stood out. gabriel barboza (think that's how its spealt) now wouldn't that be the icing on the cake to what's been a good transfer window so far.

Random question blues. does this happen to anyone else? Every time I watch a video clip on the Evertonfc website like Barry's and Stek's post match interviews today it always then automatically follows with a crap Vellios interview that is months old. I'm only asking as I think our web and social media people are pretty lacking.

I was talking to 1 of mates who lives in France a couple of days ago and he said we really should be pulling out all of the stops to sign Rachid Ghezzal from Lyon. he reckons he's 1 of the most talented players in French football right now and better than Mahrez in his opinion and worth a lot more than the £9 million we've bid. but with him being in the final yr of his contract we could get an absolute bargain!

I know it is only 2 games into the season, but wow I am impressed so far. Koeman who is a winner (unlike Martinez) has a plan, speaks his mind, knows what he wants and expects. Mirrallas tackling, Del Boy tracking back, my boy Ross (still don't know why he cops stick from so called Everton fans) tackling and tracking back and making really good decisions. Throw in Koemans recruits Bolaisie, Williams and Gaye and all off a sudden we have depth and the only position we really need is another striker. Stek is a gun and better than Hart. But the thing that brought a tear to my eye was Baines blasting a shot from 30 yards out. Last year that ball would have ended up back to our goalkeeper. I'm in love with Everton again. Ps Thank you Moshiri!
