Morning gents, I'm a Chelsea fan who is off to the game Saturday. Wondered if anyone could recommend a good pub to get a pint and bite to eat in beforehand?

Black Horse on County Road alright, think it serves food on matchdays. 10 mins or so walk to the ground.

If you fail to get a bite to eat, have a walk down the main stand and try the Chinese chippy near the Church and William Hill bookmakers, great chips and fast serving, proper pies as well not pula lol.

I'd like to give special mention to DCL at 20 he's been asked to lead the line of a struggling team a lot of pressure on his young shoulders he's usually up against two defenders alone who try and kick lumps out of him he's not the finished article by a long shot but he's got all the attributes he runs the channels holds it up his heading is great and for that penalty alone he gets an A++ in my book.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i totally agree bill, hes my player of the season so far and considering the lack of creativity around him i think the lad has been amazing mate..

21 Dec 2017 09:07:18
Ed someone compared him to Graham Sharpe and i'd have to agree totally great comparison.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i loved sharpie bill but the difference is that he had a great support network around him, DCL has very little at the moment which makes what he is doing even more impressive mate..

21 Dec 2017 09:18:05
Great young player who is improving every time he plays. The good thing about not having a recognised Striker.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Dec 2017 11:15:05
I don't think Sharpie did have that much of a support network at first Ed.
I can remember a young Sharpie also being isolated up front and struggling in the old first division.
He was also homesick and was finding the step up from Dumbarton to Everton a huge struggle.
Glad we stuck by him though and also brought in Andy Gray to help and mentor him, it must be amazing to play alongside your boyhood idol.
If DCL can go on to become as good as Sharpie I'll be a very happy Blue.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - me too RIB..

21 Dec 2017 15:06:30
Think he’s been good but would like him to beef up a bit, for all the attributes to be a decent striker.

Agree0 Disagree2

21 Dec 2017 17:25:35
7 goals and 4 assists is good return for the drivel we've played this season. Like Swan said, beef up a bit, work on his finishing and he'll be a top player in the near future.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Dec 2017 17:31:35
DCL needs to improve his aerial ability to be as good as Sharpy!

Agree0 Disagree2

21 Dec 2017 20:58:02
Sharpie only really improved in the air once Andy Gray arrived. I'm not saying he was rubbish beforehand but he improved vastly once Gray taught him a few things.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2017 22:39:05
I don't think he needs to beef up much. Rooney said he is suprised by how strong dcl is. Think he is more of a big dunc type of strength as to a sharpe type. He is never gonba be built like a brick out house.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Dec 2017 00:11:40
Difference is that Big Dunc didn’t get bounced off the ball like DCL does.

Gray his attitude to gender equality is somewhat suspect but his head was always in the right place LOL.

Ed25, I know you didn't want Sam but results have improved, even if the football has not been great.
Do you feel sam and his team have the ability to develop the team and squad to keep getting results whilst improving the quality of the football?
Also if sam feels he is getting too old amd steps down at the end of the season do you feel Shakespeare will take over or do you think sam will stay for a few years?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - sam has done a fine job up to now geoff and even though the quality has been lacking the fight has certainly been there, we need to step it up on the creativity and entertainment side now, if sam did decide to go i could not think of a worse replacement than shakespeare mate..hes a number 2...and i mean that literally.. :)

21 Dec 2017 09:33:50
Sorry ed have to disagree we want to be playing boring winning football until the side is totally settled and we have at least 35 point in the bank. If we start trying to be entertaining now then we may end up where we where at the start of the season. Our defence is still weak and needs to be supported by the midfield once our defence is sorted then maybe we can look to be a more entertaining side.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i can see your logic sa but i think defending starts up front anyway, the more time we spend in our opponents half the less our defence has to do mate..

21 Dec 2017 10:18:33
Ed025 We are far from being the finished yet you want us to be playing as though we are. It just does not make sense to me.

If we had appointed your first choice manager would you still be saying the same thing? or would you be saying things like it is a work in progress and the early signs look promising?

Geoff as for Sam stepping down at the end of the season, well that just is not going to happen, he held out for a longer contract, he is hardly going leave before it ends as he would lose out so much financially when we sue him.

21 Dec 2017 12:07:42
Big Sam's own words 'The defense is a lot more solid now. We can expand the attacking dimension of the team now'.

He's not only about defending and my hunch is he is determined to prove that Everton. Every team should be solid at the back first then good attacking play. No other way works. Look at Liverpool, great attacking. Their downfall is defense.

They won't win anything that way. Sam will surprise a lot of people at Everton imho.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i hope your right mate..

21 Dec 2017 12:09:13
I am in 2 minds here. Whilst I agree with Ed025 that attack is often the best form of defence, I also agree we can't afford to be too expansive until the defence is rock solid. Maybe a happy medium can be found in the meantime.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats what its all about big H..

21 Dec 2017 22:13:06
I never understand why people think you can only defend well if you lump the ball up 50 yards. Sam's downfall will be if he doesn't learn how to have his team like having the ball and he won't be successful.

The best defenses in world football have been Peps and Enrique. Why because they like having the ball and they defend from the front which puts them straight on the attack when then win the ball back.

I'm not saying this this type of football we must play as it takes time to develop. However, we need to keep the ball much better than we do.

If we play against Chelsea with the same attitude as the Derby we will get beat. Stay calm, be confident and look at where you want the ball to go. Aimless hoofing will only bring relentless pressure.

He's done well Sam but he needs to be more than what he's done in the past with any of the teams he's been with.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - i agree john, we afforded the red lot 80% possession in the derby and only for luck and some terrible finishing we could have been mullered, we need to retain the ball a hell of a lot more and push opposing teams away from our box mate..

22 Dec 2017 11:08:53
So far Allardyce has been up to the job and his word. I keep saying this but what has the bloke actually done wrong, at Blackburn he was screwed over by that little brown droppings SK, at England - listen to the attempted sting and Sams reply. Everywhere else he has adapted and adopted tactics and methods to suit what he has, which financially up until now he has not had. I think the Chelsea game is a little to soon but let's look again after January. I honestly believe people will change their outlook and opinion.

20 Dec 2017 18:43:25
Hey Ed 025 i will put my neck on the block here mate and say we will beat Chelsea at home on Sat, they are by no means perfect and if we stay tight at the back and take our chances up front we can win, Big Sam will have the lads up for this and if he can get a result his street cred will take off, Rooney will be up for this big time, so here goes mate 2-1 for us, will be nice to see Conte cringing in the interview afterwards COYBS.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - i would love to think so GB, myself i think chelsea will have a bit too much quality for us mate..

21 Dec 2017 10:31:43
they didn't with West Ham mate.

21 Dec 2017 13:09:19
That was all the West Ham manager GuernseyBlue :-)

21 Dec 2017 14:04:26
West Ham set up with pace up top to hit Chelsea on the counter, I can't see us doing that unless we go with Vlasic for Lennon and maybe Lookman instead of Morgan and go with 4-1-2-3 with Rooney and Sigs playing behind the front 3 and Gana just in front of the back 4.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2017 15:05:22
I’m confused as to why we need to bring in Vlasic for Lennon Bluegray to play on the counter? Lennon is far quicker than Vlasic.

I think DCL and Sig are perfect for the counter, Sig doesn’t have the pace but definitely has the quality.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Dec 2017 15:26:23
Have to say Swan I feel Vlasic is more skillful with the pace too, Lennon is more disciplined so will probably get the nod, my opinion is based on skill with the ball at pace.

21 Dec 2017 20:26:14
I'D love the kids to play but the Chelsea game is not the game to start throwing them all in. This will be a tough game and we need some experience in there if were going to stop the likes of Hazard, kante, Willian and co. The only change I would make is McCarthy for Schneiderlin if fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Dec 2017 11:12:11
Lennon in the big games for me, helps defend from the front, tracks back, has the experience and intelihence and helps prevent the wings from bein exploited. Lookman and vlasic from the bench can change the dynamic of our attack and cuase problems.
