Wow. most of the lads worked their socks off tonight and a really positive performance until Pickford yet again screws it up.
He's a liability and the weakest link in the squad. he needs dropping!

Couldn't agree more. Shame after playing some great football.

22 Jan 2020 07:55:35
Sometimes in life that happens, if the guys in front of him hadn't let that situation happen, we would be celebrating a great performance,
apart from the late collapse saw enough to encourage me for next season when hopefully our midfield will have improved, we need some bite in there, and maybe some glue on our boots as that ball pings of us something rotten.

21 Jan 2020 23:08:40
Anger doesn't even come close to describing my feelings right now. Newcastle deserved nothing from that game. Nothing. Jordan Pickford was at fault for both goals - flapped at the cross for the first and was behind the line for the second. schoolboy stuff.

We are on the same points as Newcastle. That should tell you everything about where we are right now.

Yeah and on the same points as Arsenal, 1 point behind Tottenham and 4 behind United.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jan 2020 07:53:32
They've both got games in hand, both at home against opposition they should beat. i'd be surprised if we're 1 point and 4 points behind them after tonight.

With 93 mins gone and 1 min left we have the ball in the centre of the park after the restart - how we didnā€™t manage to either keep the ball or play it into their half and keep it there is beyond me. Iā€™m guessing the subs were to eat up time but the game management by the players was poor. All that hard work and dropped 2 points. Absolutely crazy.

On the positive side - 12 points more and we should be safe.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2020 22:11:17
Why did we not put the ball out of play in the corner from the kick off?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2020 01:01:55
That is the difference between us and our neighbours Bob, we faff about near our own corner flag, our neighbours play it over the top away from danger and have willing runners chasing the ball played upfield. Even a junior school boy would have put the ball in row z instead of trying to play like Barcelona in our own corner.

21 Jan 2020 20:06:19
With the recent injuries leaving us suspect in CM, would anyone try Baines in there? Just looking at his attributes compared to Skids or even Sigurssdon, I feel he maybe be able to offer more.

He's quicker than the previous, better in the tackle and can produce some special balls. When he has played, he has been consistently good although it his in his preferred position.

21 Jan 2020 21:01:27
I've been saying for a year or 2 that he could be a left sided centre mid.

At the moment I would try him in goal.

Schneiderlin playing as we're hoping he does well and we may get an offer for him?

Schneiderlin being linked with Southampton 13m.

Will everyone stop talking about money, the club arenā€™t worried. theyā€™ve just taken Mr Ancelotti on at 11.5 mil a year on a 4 and a half year contact, they have a business plan . Mr Moshiri didnā€™t get 2 billion by chance and if Mr Usamanov comes on board heā€™s worth Ā£13 ish billion, so can we stop fretting and talking about cancelling contracts and administration it ainā€™t happening.
In other news itā€™s nice to see that Mason might get an England call up hopefully so might DCL with both Kane and Rashford injuries.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jan 2020 16:14:19
I think the general fears are coming from FFP which I'm pretty sure Moshiri and Usmanov can't avoid. I'd agree the general panic is not worthwhile though. Not sure what everyone else thinks but I would be entirely happy seeing us do no incoming business at all this month. Ancelotti needs time to asses the squad and I'd rather see some youth prospects given a chance than buying at inflated prices, offload any players we can and make sure we're in the best position possible come the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2020 16:45:14
I donā€™t think itā€™s about that Big C. The owners can be as rich as you want but if we donā€™t comply with FFP we can be stopped from signing players - like Chelsea (who also have a rich owner) and possibly deducted points.

The problem with us is we have spent a fortune and are not really any better off for it. At this point we need to buy players in the summer and may be struggling to do so because of FFP.

Other clubs that have spent big have generated income through Europe, TV, sponsorship etc. - because we have not improved we have not been on TV as much, not in Europe, and not attractive to sponsors.

Plus Iā€™m sure we will have to account for the new stadium - Iā€™m not sure if that enters FFP - maybe Edā€™s could clear that up for us?

Our transfers need to start being hits rather than failures pretty soon:
Signs, Moisse, Sandro, Klasson, Iwobi, Walcott, Bolassi, Naisse, Schniderlin, Lookman - all expensive and are now worth a fraction of what we paid for them or have moved on.

I do however feel we have been unlucky with injuries and look forward to:

Pickford
Sidebe Hollgate. Mina. Digne

Walcott. Gomez. Gbamin. Bernard

Richarlison. DCL.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea have never had an FFP issue.}

21 Jan 2020 19:25:36
I read they have gone from 60 million profit to 96 million loss at the end of December 2019.

I know it was in the Sun which maybe not best reference but they say Chelsea are in similar position as ourselves.

My mistake.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, Chelsea do not have any sort ofFFP issue where as Everton do.}

21 Jan 2020 19:35:51
The stadium doesn't affect FFP and as Ed says Chelsea's ban is not for overspending but for breaking rules on signing players.
I can't see us doing much this window, maybe a loan.
The summers transfer business will be based on whether we get europe or of we can shift a few this window.

geordies at home tonight another interesting match if richarlison is back i would swap him for kean keep same players from west ham match could be in top half prem depending on tonights results i fancy us at home tonight if we can create more chances in final third unlike the west ham match c. o. y. b.

richarlison isn't back for tonight.

21 Jan 2020 15:35:39
Still out Richarlison.

I would start with Sidebe and Baines, drop Walcott and Kean, start with Gordon and Bernard, the rest pick themselves due to injuries.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jan 2020 16:11:08
That's a good shout Nev mate, I would also drop Moise he just does not seem to make the most of his chances I know the service to him is poor he just does not seem suited to the premiership, maybe a stint in the under 23s might suit for a while, thought Gordon did well when he came on on Saturday.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2020 18:36:44
Sorry guys disagree, have to keep playing Moise. Especially against teams like this. Let him and DCL build an understanding together, and you could have a forward line for the next five or six years.
If we donā€™t play him then you will never know how good os bad he is. The kid is only 19 give him a little time. If Carlo rates him then thatā€™s good enough for me.

Morning ed2. Not sure if you explained this fully but as you are the man in the know, how bad are our finances? I know moshiri and his friend usmanov have billions but they can't and usually won't put lots of their own money in for free. 83% of turnover is apparently wages. These 'advisors probably don't work for free and Carlo on mega bucks so are we losing money hand over fist and how easy would it be right the ship? We were always a tight run club hencebuying kids and selling for big money. Probably not going to buy lots this window maybe even the summer but we do need to balance the wage bill I imagine.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained all of this/}

21 Jan 2020 19:52:29
The thing is Geoff, the Lukaku sale got us through a period and the staged payments helped.
We made money 1 out of the last 3 seasons and lost a shed load the last financial year (the year we bought Ricky and co) . This year we have the sales of Onyekuru, Gana, Vlasic and Lookman but offset against that we have the purchases of Gbamin, Gomez and Iwobi. A rough reckoning is we would break evenish on purchases and sales (don't hold me to that) . That is also dependant on how the payments are made.
Next financial year there is extra TV money from the overseas deal (maybe 20-40 million) .
If we get europe fine, if not I can see a big player needing to be sold.

21 Jan 2020 06:54:57
I'm Not saying this rumour has any legs, but the Emre can rumour, out of interest woukd you be happy or not if we signed him?
He's certainly better than what we have, but I think he's like a better version of the same type of player we ready have.
I would prefer someone else, not because of Liverpool links,
I think we need someone who can drive us forward from midfield, more creative and vision.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jan 2020 08:52:12
We need a central midfielder who can carry the ball forward at pace and he isn't that sort of player. He will slow the play down the same as what we have do now. We need an overhaul in midfield with better players not similar players.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Jan 2020 10:27:58
My thoughts exactly, I feel this could be another panic buy if it comes off. I woukd rather wait for the right player than end up wkth another player we done need for a big fee and big wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2020 12:18:15
I don't think you will see Carlo panic buy anytime mate.
