My Merseyside Utd team would be:

Mignolet(Howard is great but this keeper is a real talent and I don't know how he didn't get GK of the season last season.)

Coleman(been unreal of late)

Jagielka(one of the best CB's in the premier league

Agger(This was close between Agger and Distin)

Baines(enough said)

McCathy(many will disagree but I think McCarthy plays great football)

Gerrard (Is fading but can still play a great defence spliting pass, and is a massive chunk of Liverpool. True liverpool legend)

Coutinho( Barkley is fantastic but I think Coutinho has had more oppurtunities to improve his game and
Barkley still has a lot to learn)

Suarez( Hate him with a passion but one of the best strikers around)

lukaku(great presence and goal scoring ability)

Mirallas(many will disagree with this but I think Sturridge is overrated and can only play with a lot of space and time on the ball, and suits a counter-attacking style but nothing else and Mirallas is more versatile in the way he can contribute to the team.

Quite close, and as even as a fist 11 can be.

Sturridge is as greedy as a pig, and usually just swings his foot at a ball and it goes in. Some of the things he tries are ridiculous when he could easily play a player in who's in a better position.
This criticism could also be levelled at Barkley though Ross is still a boy learning his trade. My point, Sturridge is vastly overrated and has been somewhat lucky with most of his goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get your point about Sturrige. He is proper selfish which some people argue is a good quality in a striker. But he clearly backs his ability too much, and often to the detriment of the team.
But, and just a small but, him swinging his foot at the ball and scoring I'd say is more about percentages than luck.

Apart from that you've summed him up a treat.

Toffee ace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the posters. I Hate Sturridge. Greedy player in it for himself. He has no interest in the other players alongside him. England the other night he had 5 shots from nowhere when he could have laid it on for others. No vision and an arrogant, moody looking poor excuse for a man who is one of the worst divers I have seen. Suarez stays on his feet compared to him. When the goals dry up he will bring nothing whatsoever to the table for Liverpool or England.

agger is rubbish, my mates who are kopites hate him because he takes the credit for his partners work (like ferdinand at united) and is useless in defense as van persie, benteke, lukaku, lambert, adebayor and holt have all proved, he is a decent footballer but useless as a defender

I see what you mean ace, and you've almost certainly put it better than I did, but he just seems to put his laces through it and hope for the best, and lately they've been going in. And Hank, spot on, he's an arrogant little toad who plays for himself.
I don't see him reaching Jelavic levels of not scoring but he's not going to keep this goal scoring form up for long.

I will probably get criticized for this post but I think some people need to stop having a go at Martinez for the pass the ball round the back style that he is creating.

If you watch all the top teams in Europe like Madrid, Bayern and Barca they pass the ball around the back, bring the opposition forward then quickly shift the ball into midfield, where there are now gaps because they attracted the other team forward, and they build at a fast pace from there, this is what Martinez is trying to do.

There is no point Howard passing it to Jags, then Jags launching it to Lukaku, and he wins the occasional knock down because it means the opposition get easy possession and the top teams will punish us if we do that, it was effective with Fellaini because he won more headers than he lost last year so we got lucky in that sense, but he has gone, its a different ball game.

Every time we went long against Hull, Lukaku lost it and Hull could build, teams like Arsenal, and as City showed, will destroy us if we do that. We as fans need to be patient and the moans of discontent towards Howard, Jags and Distin really don't help at all, in time we will be a cracking side, we aren't exactly doing poorly at the moment are we? And there is a lot more to come from this side.

We will continue with the build up from the back and yes we may concede a goal or two from a mistake from the back, but in the long run the passing style will be far more effective than the long ball style that so many Evertonians seem to crave.

Good post that alex.

Great post. Well said. It will take time great things do. But its coming together nicely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Over time i'm convinced that Martinez will by defenders who are comfortable on the ball, and as far as I can remember so far we've not conceded no goals from playing out from the back, so it's not all bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post! I feel we have been good so far, and we have been playing much better football than we have in the past. what I admire about RM is that we lost one of our best players, certainly our best midfielder, and yet our midfield is much better this season. It is still 'work in progress' and there is work to be done, areas to improve but Martinez has done a fantastic job so far and I hope he contiues to impress me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember watching one of our early home games this season and finding it hard to follow - the Moyes system was so ingrained! It's refreshing to see a manager who knows what he's about and is confident enough to make changes (style and personnel) quickly and effectively.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post, we haven't even conceded a goal from passing round the back yet have we? (Although admittedly we've come close a few times)

Kenny Loggins.
Do you play the guitar by any chance. ;-)

I love the way we play. All in all the players have got to grips with RMs system really well. Apart from the two centre backs. Great defenders both of them but they are just not comfortable on the ball. It's ok to have one like that but not both. Its something we will need to address because it's ony a matter of time before they are caught and we concede an embarrasing goal. I think Alcaraz will come in for Distin when he is fit and that will helps as much as I love Distin.

The royalties from Footloose have paid for my season ticket in the Lower Bullens since the mid 80s, Toffee. I'm working on a concept album about the Gordon Lee era, but am struggling to find any takers.

The crap about barry's tackle, is just that. Two men go for the ball and barry plays the ball, yes he does make contact on the follow though, but if that's now not to be allowed then we do have a none contact sport. PS. hulls outrage would be more convincing if they had not set out to kick us of the park, they kicked everything above grass level, plus when contact was made they went done as if the had been shot.

Regardless of how Hull approached the game, or Sagbo's foul on Jags, the fact is Barry should've been shown a straight red, or he could've been shown 2 yellows quite easily. We were fortunate to have 11 men on the pitch at the end. {Ed025's Note - i know what your saying mate, but look at the blatant pen on baines at cardiff...these things tend to even themselves out over the season, some you win, some you lose, so i wont be losing any sleep over it..

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barry probably should have gone for 2 yellows, no way it was a straight red for the tackle on Sagbo, MOTD proved again how inept they are failing to show the horror challenge on Jags, now that was a straight red and that isn't because i'm biased, Bruce needs to get a grip, not one person in the ground thought Barry touched it at the time, Hull were organised but they did their best to injure our whole team with nasty fouls all over the show. It evened itself out and if we hadn't of won it wold have been a footballing travesty, too much praise for Hull on Saturday I feel, if we had turned up even to half our ability we would have put 6 past them.

Alex

Agree0 Disagree0

I won't lose any sleep either ed and I can see what you're saying also, but even the most biased Blue would accept that was a dangerous challenge from Barry which merited a red card.
But the Baines non penalty vs Cardiff and the 2 penalty incidents at man city, David Silva's dodgy challenges, I think we were due some luck.

Ok I know this is not totally Everton banter, but it does include 3 of our players. I have to take my hat off to Woy Hodgson, as he has stuck by Jags and also has Bainesy in the team (deservedly. obviously) and Barkley in the squad. Considering the lack of quality English players, I think he had us playing as well as any other manager since probably Hoddle. How many tournament qualifiers have we all watched where the England team has been set up so negatively and played square passes for 90 minutes and we also looked like we would never score? At least in these two qualifiers it was end to end and we did look like we would score more than the opposition. Something to build on I hope. And I think Baines secured his position after that game!
