Another good opportunity missed to steal a march on some of our rivals today but to be honest I was expecting it. I know that might sound negative or even ridiculous but it seems to me this is just what we do. We don't learn from defeats and if we do we don't seem to do anything different to .ake sure it doesn't happen again. I remember looking at the teamsheet before the palace game last season and just knowing we were going to lose even though we had just won 7 in a row. Everything that made us tick had been messed with instead it just looked like square pegs for round holes. When I saw todays teamsheet I thought exacty the same thing. I understand we need to rotate a little bit now but not change what we do well. We can't afford to have a centre half at right back and osman isn't even a replacement for naismith never mind barkley anymore. Also we missed real penetration up front for me its one or the other between rom and eto'o for me and we missed super kev badly today. I worried at the end of the window whether we had enough options for 2 sometimes 3 games a week. Today was the first test and we got our answer for me.

We should definetly try and sign Bolasie now. He has tourmented our defence twive now and also quite a lot of other defences too.

after atsu goes back, and pienaar finally gives in (lets face it, his legs went the day he came back permenantly) I would be delighted with him, I said last season don't judge players off one or two games but having seen him a few times, i'd happily try and get him, he's an animal, so fast and so strong, not only that, he isn't one of those wingers who will beat his man and then slice one in, he will keep running until he reaches the box and he will twist and turn, if you tackle him, penalty, if you leave him, he creates a goalscoring chance, very good player

For Swansea I would play a really weak team. In the league I fear we have been found out. Teams can play 11 men behind the ball, defend all game, hit us with a single counter attack and then we will make the errors to gift them with a goal. Something has to change in my opinion, whether it be a change in formation or a change in the starting 11 itself, it has to happen soon, otherwise we are looking as if we will have a nightmare of a season.

. nobody can disagree with the fact that under Bobby's teniorship, Wigan fc at times played some lovely football going forward, but ultimately through diabolical defending & letting in far too many goals the end result was relegation from the premier league. I really hope we're not going the same way. very despondent here tonight!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to say mate that thought is going through my head at this moment we just can't defend, we have let in 11 goals against us in 3 home games I'm starting to get really worried now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Crap.we had a great defense under moyes and in bobbys 1st season.so your tellin me we just forgot how to defend . nonsense. We just can't deal with the pressure other teams put on us.our attempts on goal should be going in.end of. other teams just taking there chances . Lukaku ain't fit so put Eto'o in for a couple of games and have lukaku as a impact sub.also . don't change a winning team

Ed25 can you now see what I was getting at?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i cant remember your post to be honest mate, but one thing i will say is that im not having this tired because of thursday lark, they are professional athletes for gods sake, if they cant play two 90 minute games in a week then get rid of them!..

Three main things wrong to my mind

1. No urgency at all when we were one up - just passing it across back four as the minutes tick by - they were happy to see that as they've come for a draw and hope to nick a goal at some point

2. No creative defence splitting midfielder - just plod plod plod sideways balls - we need someone who can drop a shoulder, beat his man and then send in a defence splitting pass through to a lively on the move forward who anticipates the pass

3 Mcarthy summed it up for me when in first half we were one up - we got a dangerous free kick near the touch line, five yards further out than their 18 yard box. Brilliant place to swing in a fast free kick towards pen spot / six yard box - what did he do? He effing passed it all the way back to the central defenders in the centre circle - I couldn't bloody believe it!! That summed up our lack of effort all round - until we were losing of course and then some of them started trying but by then it was too late - wages should be docked if you only put in half a shift! L

Lazy players will win you nothing and we've got some lazy ones :(

Baines was a credit though - always trying to break through

Watching us today absolutely clears up any doubt that distin and jags can't play together anymore. Think Rio and Vidic for United last season. Stones needs to be first choice CB with Distin and jags rotating through. Jags can still be club captain just not game day similar to phil Neville in his last couple of years.

For me we missed cutting edge, why wasn't gibbo given a run, it is like was forgot when we brought Barry in it was as cover for gibbo who is 7yrs younger!

Lucky all other teams lost or drew over the weekend sans Arsenal who are at best 4th/5th place material.

Sorry for the rant!

Coleman is out of the game against swansea, don't even think about hibbert, don't even think about putting stones there bobby, put tyias browning in there, its his time NOW, if there was ever a time we needed a pacy, strong, ball playing centre half, its now, put him at right back and see how he does, if you do play hibbert then put browning next to another ball playing centre back like stones or alcaraz, just give the lad a chance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Stones had a shocker playing right back at Anfield aswell last season hope to god Coleman is back for sat.

Well that. was dreadful, howard-5-what the actual, no! no! NO!, stones-6.5-struggled against bolasie, but what did martinez expect, should of put browning in if coleman wasnt fit, he should be centre half, jagielka-5-i really don't know, always on the floor trying to force things, bolasie just did the same thing over and over and over again, kick it forward and chase, give someone else the armband, he isn't a leader, distin-5-woeful on the ball, dunno what him, jags and howard were doing for the penalty, just keep these 2 out the team, baines-7-handled puncheon well and got things going, problem? Corners, mccarthy-5.5-kept an eye on him the last 8 games (including rewatching last season) and I don't know what he actually does, he never wants the ball, he runs and does the odd tackle, got ripped at right back and didn't push us on, barry-7.5-passing was superb and he pushed us on, well done, osman-4.5-now before degsy says 'oh he got an assist and was easily motm just hold on, his passing was beyond dreadful, he's a passenger, everything passed him by, he should of scored that chance when we were 1-0 up, shouldn't be anywhere near the team, worst individual performance since neville against wigan, atsu-6-poor passes but had no options at times, when he did get space he did well, eto'o-8-the lad looks absolute class, dropped back and dictated play, some very clever bits of play, boss him, lukaku-6-took his goal well but, yet again didn't win a single header and his lay offs were beyond awful, mirallas-6-, naismith-6- and gibbo-6-, positives? Etoo looks brilliant and gibbo is back, personally, i'd chuck jags, distin and osman out, just please start tyias browning soon, or galloway, something different! Martinez didn't have to change anything, they counter attcked like last season, won 3-2 like last season, missed coleman, kev and naisy big time, haven't won at home and already lost 2, not good enough, the defence is awful, well done to palace, in particular bolasie who would give any full back nightmares, palace fans were loud and actually sang through the game, unlike chelsea and the arse, things can only get better, who we got next week? Liverpool away? i'm going for a nightmare result, I will be shocked if we get out without conceding at least 7 goals, worst defesive record in the league, well done everton, what an embarrasing performance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't argue with most of that but Howard was worse than a 5. He'll be dropped anyway for the cup game so I hope it gives him time to get his head back in the game.

The worst performance for me though was bobby. Too many, unnecessary changes and too many players out if position. We have one of the worst defenses in the league, we can't handle set pieces for or against and we don't mix it up. I know its still early but it feels like the bubble has burst.

Well. why change an improving defense Bobby?!? Why did you relegate Stones to right back when he's been outstanding in the centre?!? Words fail me. puts Distin (who's past it) back in & we've just conceded another 3 goals at home & lost again to Palace. admittedly Tim was at fault for both their first goals, but it's not looking good for the season folks at the moment is it? I'm beginning to wonder now if Bobby's bubble has burst. he talks a good talk & likes to be ultra positive, but it's what we do on the pitch that counts. & at the moment through some bad selection decisions it ain't happening. I hope to high heaven we havn't just become the new Wigan?!!?

I wouldn't normally bother but. I've just been over to the Liverpool page - and it's even better than listening to them on radio city after they've lost - talk about a collective nervous breakdown!
Just as they we starting to believe the glory days were returning, they see it all being snatched from their grasp and (given that these guys need a regular ( i.e. every decade or two) dose of feelgood reflected glory just to stay sane) do they not like it!
It's worth a gander if you've got a spare few minutes - great fun:)

(One guy even calls them 'the best fans in the world' - yeah right (not!), so long as they're getting their regular glory fix, otherwise its spoilt child syndrome big time!)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jus had a glance ( normally wouldn't bother with the dark side ), but they are in complete meltdown, quality,!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - they are being realistic for once...a lot are saying they will finish between 6th and 10th..well honesty is the best policy.. :)

Iv just a little look and iv never laughed so much in my life. One of them was having an argument with a Man U fan saying if we had the same budget as u we would win the league every year! Haha there scraping the barrel now!

Agree0 Disagree0

I too couldn't resist having a laugh. They're all falling out with each other again just because they scraped past the Bulgarians in added time and have now lost the last two in the League. "Rogers doesn't know what he's doing", Balotelli doesn't look interested" and "let's go out and spend another £100m". Laugh along with those loveable reds and bring on the Derby next week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Argh we lost to palace again! Martinez out, now! ;(

See you Saturday daveyboy r you looking forward to it.It was the last century since you won at r place r u confident again I think we will win easy 3-0 imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tommy lad. Your boys are in meltdown. Gerrard's finished if your supporters are to be believed. Mignolet is a liability and who do you have who can score up front? Since the water rat upped sticks and abandoned you in the summer you're 'toothless' up front. Sturridge is injured and Borreni? Do me a favour!
EFC are coming looking for a result on Saturday just as we did against WBA a week ago. Lukaku to score again with Super Kev adding a second. 2 nil to the Blue noses and Stevie G sent off for slip/ foul that brings someone down in the area. That would make my day. Bring it on.

I'm quite suprised at the amount of negativity on here regarding the Wolfsburg game? 4-1 against our equivalent German counterparts was a great result and overall a great performance. Yes they had the better second half but we had done the damage by then and personally I always thought if they had scored then we had another gear to go up again. German teams are no mugs as the champions league results against English teams showed. In all honesty with a new stadium still a while off and no new investment on the horizon nights like this may be the best it gets for the foreseeable future so get on board and enjoy the ride whilst the going is good. There are quite rightly times to have a moan on here but a 4-1 victory over a Bundesliga team who missed out on a Champions League spot by a point last term isn't one of them.
