Drenthe right, pienaar left, felli or osman or barkley cm

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with new right back, right mid, and attacking mid but why have you left out Fellaini???
Hopefully the left mid role will be filled by Pienaar if we manage to get him permanently
I keep saying someone who could play on the right and be available on the cheap, especially if they go down is Matt Jarvis from Wolves, very under rated player, quick, both footed, can take players on, has a good delivery and important to Moyes and the way we play his work rate is brilliant!!
Surely with only 12 months left on his contract and the possibility of Wolves going down we could snap him up for 3-4 million, get Pienaar in for 3-4 million and that just leaves Right back and Attacking mid!

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agreed! I wouldn't mind Pienaar on the left with Baines although they don't seem as good lately as before - I agree with all your other 'drops' though - we'll ever make it to the top with sub top felli
Clozem downe

Agree0 Disagree0

Ps sub top Fellaini has absolutely no shot on him at all - how you can be a pro footballer and not be a least half good at shooting is beyond me (practice FFS) - his big clown feet always spanner it at least 5 yards away from the goal - left, right or over, just never on target
(yeah I'm not his biggest fan - firstly cos he's not that good and secondly cos he called everton 'sub-top')

Agree0 Disagree0

How could you leave Neville out?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks guys i thourght you where all gonna hate but it shows who true blues are i think everton have the weakest Right side on a football pitch who have we got?
Nevill, Hibbert, coleman rediculous that is killing us

toffee haz

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly Jags instead of Distin. Younger and better.

How realistic are we with money? Lets say £5-10 million in the summer.

Right back - Danny Simpson (Free Transfer i believe)
Left mid - Peanuts (Approx £3m)
Central Mid - Fellaini/Osman/Barkley
Right Mid - Drenthe/Jarvis (Unsure of value/remaining contract length)
Attacking Midfield/2nd Forward - Kalou (£7m)

Try and get rid of Rodwell, although his value is plummeting every injury.

I think that's fairly realistic and sensible?

Cheers Alastair

Agree0 Disagree0

No Fellaini? Must be joking me mate, just because he doesn't have a brilliant long shot, it makes him crap? He is a defensive midfielder FFS, his job is to stop the attack of the midfielders from the opposition and he does that extremely well. Your calling a guy s**t who is responsible for stopping the likes of Silva, Mata and Modric recently, clearly he is s**te.

My fellow Evertonians. I watch Swansea most weeks as I am a South Wales Evertonian - Big Nev, Ratcliff and Van denHowe are my hero's, so going to the liberty is local footy for me. So I feel it's my obligation to report to you what I have seen this season down here.

We will have less possession against Swansea than we had against Arsenal. Our only real chance of getting anything from this fixture is a nil nil or if we keep a clean sheet we could score from a set piece.

I will be there in the crowd and nothing will make me more proud than if you silenced this very passionate crowd with your loudest singing as all the other teams that have come down have been quiet.

I am welsh and from Swansea. BUT I'M A BLUE TILL I DIE AND WILL THEREFORE WELCOME MY FELLOW EVERTONIANS WITH OPEN ARMS AND PROUDLY WITHOUT ANY SHAME CHEER AN EVERTON WIN COME SATURDAY 4:45. COYB

Toffee ace {Ed025's Note - once everton are in your blood ace...thats it mate..

You're right 25. It's been flowing through my veins for 32 years since I was 9 .

Once a blue.....

Toffee ace {Ed001's Note - 025 could say something similar, except he would say it stopped flowing through his veins 32 years ago when he reached 90.....}

Agree0 Disagree0

Since you were 9?? what happened before that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Broke away from the egg shaped ball when I was 9. First taste of football was in the colours of royal blue. Worn by the legend that is Bob Latchford. {Ed025's Note - he was my favourite as well mate!..

A fellow Swansea born bluenose! I thought I was the only one. Blue Lee

I know of a few more down here Lee. Hope you can get to the game mate,

Hope he doesn't make 6 bloody changes again! Maybe 1 or 2 but not 6!
If anyone needs a rest it's Distin!! He looked out of it last two games at the end although he performed outstanding!!
By the way i thought i'd mention Baines, his energy levels are among the best in the league, he has played every league game for 3 years and still in the last minute against Arsenal he was flying forward from the back to put a cross in! Class

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think there wil be more than 1 or 2

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes don't think he will make the same mistake as last week, we need a strong team and to get a result to carry some confidence and momentum into the Sunderland game!!
I agree 1 or 2 changes

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2012 19:20:15
Be intersting to see if Moyes makes as many changes as he did for the Liverpool game on saturday against Swansea, personally we have lost our last 2 games and although i would love us too win a trophy we need points or we could end up back in the bottom half again!
Then all our hard work since January to get back in amongst the top 8 will be gone!
I'd give Cahill a rest but apart from that he shouldn't change much, this is a importnant game we lose against Swansea ALL of our momentum will be gone and then we go to Sunderland nervous and lacking confidence, we lose that then for me our season is over! We will have 8 game left and probably end up 10th/11th adn all Moyes "10 year week" will be remembered for is the fact that he threw the derby, our momentum and a possibility of a europa league spot and FA cup final!!
I looked at other teams who played in midweek and then on saturday like we did and they played virtually the same teams apart from 1 or 2! We made 6 changes, i still can't believe it

Just heard that were going back to USA for pre season again, it's great there but apart from Australia i think we have gone there the last 7 years! Why not change especially giving that we have started the last 4 seasons poorly?

22 Mar 2012 12:35:46
First 15 minutes we were poor! Very poor defending for there goal! Unlike us to concede from a set peice! After that we improved, had some good passages of play topped off with a well taken goal from drenthe! Unfortuanately the linesman didnt see it that way even though he was right inline with it! Shocking! Second half we were the better team (for the most part) kept arsenal quiet they never looked like scoring again but at the same time we didnt look like scoring either!we are still missing final pass and cutting edge to create more chnces to score from! I think drenthe would be best used playing up top off jelly or denis! We have no pace up front so that would improve our attacking play! But cant see moyes doing that! Jelly has more quality than denis but denis works harder for the team, i think he should start against swansea as they are a passing side and like to play it out of defence and denis will close them down alot more than jelavic would! Mybe play them both and rest cahill! But we need to win on saturday so whatever moyes does he has to be positive!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I have been saying this since his first game for us. Drenthe should play up front with a big man, Denis or Jelly. He knows where the goal is, has loads of pace and can run with the ball. Stick Coleman on the right, Pienaar on the left, Felli and Osman/Gibson in the middle with Hibbert Hietinga, Distin Baines. Let Drenthe run free then Moyes cant get annoyed with his positional play.

We deserve credit for putting so much pressure on them, we definitely deserved a draw. Why do we play so well against the top teams at home, but away from home we just defend and surrender against them. I hope we really go for it at the stadium of light on tuesday.

memo to everton manager / coaching staff :
you're never going to win anything unless you compete for EVERY SINGLE ball! SIMPLE

Do you want to know why we looked absolutely useless for the first 20 minutes?

It's VERY simple. Because when we get the ball an arsenal player will come straight away and try and get it off us - and I don't mean run towards us and then stop two or three yards away to see what we do with the ball - he'll run straight up, get right up to you, and physically push and shove and stick his leg in and try to get the ball

at the same time his mates nearby will go and stand near to your nearest outlet players so you have no one easy to pass to - so you have to hoof it long - and they get it back

watch the tape of everton when we play poorly like in that first 20 minutes - what do our lads do?
they make a pretence of closing down in that they will move towards an arsenal player - but (and this drives me fkng mad when I see it all the time) our lads will stop closing down when they get within a few yards of the opponent - and then they make this kind of static 'star' shape with their body - arms slightly out to the sides - legs apart - but not moving and not trying to actually 'get' the ball - just CONTAINING the opponent by stopping him moving forwards
for crying out loud - opposing players LOVE IT when we do this because they know they will be able to look up take that extra couple of seconds to spot their next pass - their mates will be able to see that they have the time and space to look up and pick the next pass and they know they can make a run into space nearby and their mate will see the run and find them with a good pass, played in front of the recipient, and the attack moves forwards - on and on - pass after pass

for them it's like a training exercise playing against nobhead statue like opponents who don't try and win the ball back - they just make 'star' shapes a few yards in front of them to try and stop them moving forwards with the ball - it's the most useless tactic ever - and it doesn't work

FFS why can't everton coaches see this and stop our guys doing the 'star' shape static stand?

they have to start coaching them that at every point in the game we have to try and GET THE BALL off the opponent

get right up to the opponent within a second or two or them receiving it and start shoving and pushing and putting a foot in to try and get the ball FFS - 'standing off' is a losers tactic - and no wonder we lose when we do it

that first quarter of an hour was just embarrassing - we touched it about 4 times before they scored in the 7th minute - that's a fkng long seven minutes of watching sht play when we don't have the ball AT ALL

Moyes is supposed to be some great manager yet he doesn't know that if he doesn't stop his players 'standing off' and throwing the 'star' shape we're going to get beat time and time again and we're never going to win anything

FIGHT for the ball FFS at EVERY moment - you're not paid tens of thousands every weeks to just have a bit of a jog and not compete!!

start fighting or just fk off to another club!

Clozem Downe {Ed001's Note - that is my pet hate when watching games too, so many teams do it and it is completely insanity. It relies on the opposing team being unable to pass the ball 5 yards safely.}

Believable3 Unbelievable2

This is the worst post i've ever seen. its not Kenny Dalgleish is it winding people up?? so Tim Cahill, Marouanne Fellaini, Phil Neville, Leighton Baines, etc don't kick the opposition for the ball?? do you actually know anything about football? the only comment i've got to make is that Fellaini can get "too close" and before knows it, they've turned and gone because he's too overkeen to win the ball, but that's better than nothing, that frustrates me. I'm sure Moyes knows football better than you though mate, so stop talking toilet and go back to Fifa 12!!

Agree0 Disagree0

The first replier to this obviously knows nothing at all - he must like us standing off opponents and not trying to get the ball - he must have enjoyed the first quarter hour of this match, watching a not that great arsenal team make us look like complete muppets - but ask him why an away team like arsenal can come to goodison and not give us a touch of the ball for 20 minutes and he's probably clueless to provide any reasons - or ways to stop it
and he votes me 'worst post' despite the fac that Ed actually agreed with my point - so of course it's the worst post ever -yeah right
perhaps you can provide some insights as to why we looked completely pants for 20 minutes then? easier just to criticise hey?

try watching the top teams like manu arsenal etc - and watch how right from the off their players compete like mad - especially in the first 10 minutes - to gain a psychological 'dominance' over a game by competing for every ball and tackle - usually after about 15 minutes one team will look to have gained the upper hand by the fact that they keep pressing the other team and the other team starts to back off - trouble is we did it last night right from the whistle which meant we looked like nobs for 15 minutes - not getting hardly a single touch
because we were backing off and not competing or trying to get the ball

perhaps he's RS or dalglish himself - encouraging us to carry on playing sht football - cos he's offering nothing else is he?

let's hear his suggestions then as to where we're going wrong...

Agree0 Disagree0

And what was your mate fellaini doing for the first goal? - 7 foot tall and he doesn't jump when the ball is 2 feet above his head and he's the nearest defender -

(if you look at the photo of vermaelen scoring there's about 5 everton players near him - mostly all have their feet near the floor whilst vermaelen's are about 3 feet off the floor - how's that allowed to happen? - do they not practice jumping?)

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree. u have to remenber that the players dont always do wat the manager says. u seen moyes screamin at his players to get stuck in midway thru the game and i imagine he was saying it before the game and half time. flying in to tackles with the arsenal team is not the wisest thing to do is it. i suggest you let the manager do his job because a man wudnt b at a club if he wasnt fully commited to makin the team as good as any1.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to agree with Clozem downe. I too, hate the starfish thing. It's pointless! You need to get in the opponents face to force a pass, to force mistakes, then have a team mate picking up the loose ball. We look a much better team when we do that... as does every other team for that matter. They did a thing on MOTD not too long back about Everton 'Hunting in Packs'. Not giving anyone time on the ball is a must and it works.

Wizard of Osman

Agree0 Disagree0

I kind of agree and don't agree at the same time! If that makes sense!?
There are some players who do what you call the "star" shape stand to prevent the player from moving forward, and it isn't just Everton who do this i see it a lot in most games in the prem, but there is also a lot of player's who get right up in the player's faces and try and get the ball off the opposition, Fellaini actually does it too much and commits a foul most of the time because he get's too close, Pienaar doesn't get enough credit for his closing down and nicking the ball back he does it every game at least 2-3 times, Gibson is good at getting in the opposition's face and taking the ball off them (when he was playing), Cahill does it all game, he's probably are best player for it niggling at players ankles trying to intercept and Neville is very quick to get in at a player also!!!
So i do agree some player's do it but there is a lot of player's who don't do it and are actually good at it especially since the turn of the year.
I don't see it as a big a issue as your making out mate.
Simple fact is, Arsenal have won 6 games on the run and full of confidence, think they have scored 19 goals in there last 5 games and they would of made mugs of any team in the premier League last night in that first 20 minutes!!
After that we were pretty much the better team, lots of pressure, lots of play and putting balls in and around the area we just didn't get a break and plus Drenthe scored a perfectly good goal so i wouldn't worry too much about the point you have made, i would be more concerned about where our next goal is coming from because even though i know it's early days still with Jelavic, were still lacking in the final 3rd, Baines all season has put quality in the box and no-one is ever there too finish it off
Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the thoughtful replies - arsenal do look good when they're on the ball - and that's fine - but the other half of a football game is what you do when the opponents have the ball and that's almost as important as what you do on the ball

arsenal might have the good pass and move silky skills when they're on the ball - but just watch them when they don't have it - they hunt in packs constantly - no wasting time - just straight away at the opponents - and they don't stick to the rules when going about it - they constantly push, shove trip and foul to stop you 'playing' your game - not enough to get yellow cards generally - just constant niggly fouls and pushes - but it's an important 'skill' in its own right - we don't do it in the game when we look poor - like the bolton and blackburn games being good (bad!) examples - we look awful when we stand off back away and do the star shape - it drives me mad - watch the good teams and see how winning the ball back is as important to them as do the fancy things when they have got the ball

we have to do more on the constant tackling front

(ps Cahill might once have been a niggler - he's now a stroller - watch him - he walks about the pitch 80% of the time now - playing centre mid. (Sub Top) Fellaini does jog around a lot - he's just too slow to get to the action half the time)

link, for those that haven't saw it, a picture of Drenthe clearly onside. The officials are poor in the premier League, i can understand some decisions because the play is s fast but offside's when the linesman is 20 yards from the player are pathetic
