I'm bewildered by the fact the lack of chances given to Oviedo! What has the lad done wrong from what I see he is quick and skilful and a hell of a lot better than Naismith who I have never rated I really didn't want us to sign him. Also players such as Barkley and Vellios deserve to be given a chance in the first team every time Vellios plays he looks hungry and determined which is a lot more than Jelavic is looking of late and we all know what Barkley is capable of. Perhaps the time has come for Moyes and his negative tactics to move on just remember we have done a lot for him as well he is one of the best paid managers in the world and who had heard of him before we took a chance on him. The club will always be bigger than the manager no matter who is it. Big changes in the summer me thinks after we wasted our big chance in January. If Moyes is to leave who does everybody want in? I think Martinez, Laudrup and Hughton would be good shouts.

Jelly is a box player! that's where he belongs! down the middle! he is getting burned out by moyesies formation and lack of service in and around the box! the lad is trying but having to play the line alone! moyes has done it to all our past strikers, andy johnson, the yak, beatie e. tc!get it in the box regular and plat to his strengths! forest gump would be burnt out by negative batton up the hatches, davey!

Agree0 Disagree0

Moyes was giving out about us trying to see out the last 10 mins as he wanted them to keep going for a second goal. I think we just ran out of steam in the last 10 due to the same players playing every game. Our squad is to small, think we will regret not getting a couple players in Jan. I would make a few changes by resting Baines swap with Oviedo, Pienaar swap with Mirrallas, Osman swap with Hitzelsperger, and Fellaini swap with Barkley and I would give Jelavic the first half with Vellios having a go in the second. If this team can not beat Oldham then we don't derserve to be in the cup. It will tell us a lot about our squad players. Something we need to know for the home straight.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with joeablue and I've been saying same thing for a long time as in regards to moyes ruining natural goalscoring centre forwards by running the b. llocks outta them chasing aimless long punts into the corners. {Ed025's Note - my biggest beef jimmy...is closing the keeper down all the time!, it never does any good, and then renders him offside when the ball returns, just a waste of energy for me ..

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with you ed. But as we all know he's only playing to orders. I do feel sorry for the lad his confidence is shot, those half chances he's been missing he would of buried a few months ago. You only have to see how many one touch finishes he's put away throughout his career and the positions he picked up to put them away, to realise he is a natural goalscorer not a winger or an Olympic marathon runner. {Ed025's Note - i agree jimbo..

I think today's events just shows how inconsistent we are, no top 4 ambition and Moyes tactics are awful.

First he starts Naismith over Mirallas which gives us no pace on the right.

Secondly he brings a striker off with 10 minutes to go while we are chasing a 2nd and minutes later they go on and win it.

And thirdly he blames the referee for going overtime, I'm sorry but today was all down to Moyes and his mistaken tactics.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

They always say that its a 'minimum' amount of added time, not three exactly so I imagine Norwich would of felt exactly the same if we scored after the three minutes

today (norwich) moyes chose to sitback and defend a 1 nil lead as he always does. chance to put some youngsters in to keep the legs fresh for a biger game in my opinion on tuesday! and he doesnt, chooses to keep playing naismith on the right he's a striker FFS! the list goes on

After our posters crowing about that lot across the park going into meltdown on their forums when they've lost, those on the dark side must be p***ing themselves at our reaction today. They must love it - just love it - that we're about to implode and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They can't wait for DM to move on, as they're convinced he's the only reason we've not been relegated during the past ten years. They might be right at that, but wouldn't it be great if he's succeeded by Roberto Martinez - who turned them down. A sad pyrrhic (there's a posh word) victory that's sure to be mocked by the dark side, but he's my choice to bring us a wealth of exciting, winning football.

Can anyone think back to the months just before David Moyes took over from Walter Smith (who many - if not most - supporters wanted out) and recall which other managers were wanted by the fans for the job? In fact, which other manager who was in the frame at the time - and would realistically have joined us back then - has since gone on to be a success?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Iain Dowie, Dave Jones, Gary Megson?? Rob Walker

Agree0 Disagree0

Dowie - working as a pundit, not a manager, having failed at several clubs.
Jones - I like him, but he couldn't get Cardiff into the Premier League despite several play-off attempts.
Megson - Nuff said!
Who was in the frame that's actually been successful since then?

Two tell-tale signs, I'd suggest, of DM losing it:
1. Publicly stating that more is expected of players, like he's recently done about Mirallis and, to a lesser degree, Jelavic. I was always taught, "praise in public", but "criticise in private".
2. Complaining about added time at the end of matches. He must really want to eventually succeed SAF if he's adopting the ManUtd boss's signature whinge. The better response is to defend better, as a team and as individuals, whatever minute of the match it is.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

He publicly states he wants more goals and assists from Mirallas, and then proceeds to leave him on the bench in favour of a Sunday League quality player. I don't understand. He's a boring, clueless dinosaur and the sooner he goes the better for all concerned at EFC.
That side today, man for man, should have comfortably beaten Norwich who had scored 1 in 6 games? Then score 2 in 9 minutes against us down to Moyes' negative tactics. The whole team should be ashamed to pick up their wages this month. Embarrassing.

There will be a near full house for the cup tie, but we will be their for everton, not bill or his glove puppet. David Moyes is everton's longest serving manager, who has won nothing. he has not won at unt, arsanal, chelsea, or liverpool. Yes he has had limited funds, and givern that, it would have been unrealistic to expect him to have won the prem, but, by my count he has had 23 or 24 cups which, by now if he is this great manager he should surley have one or two on his CV. This man now has the brass nerve to tell us he is considering the 4m contract which is on the table. Please go now wihilst you still enjoy a measure of respect, and Bill, I don't give a monkeys who you sell to, you have mismanaged our once great club, and mislead us for the last time.

Use the Agree or Disagree buttons:
Agree - you want to see Everton playing riskier attacking football even if that means a match might be lost 3-4
OR
Disagree - you want to see Everton playing safer defensive football that gets 1-0 wins

Believable16 Unbelievable4

Silly question that mate, if the first one happens all season we get relegated, the second one we win the league!Rob Walker

Agree0 Disagree0

The seasons that NUFC under Keegan lost the occasional match 3-4 was also when they were challenging for the title. Obviously, I don't want us to lose every game 3-4, but an occasional such defeat would be grudgingly acceptable IMHO if it was part of a policy of playing expansive, progressive, exciting, attacking football.

Well the chickens have come home to roost. It didn't take a rocket scientist to work out we needed strengthening in January to have a realistic chance of CL.
There is only one person to blame and that's Blue Bill. All you BK lovers keep on saying how good he is. I'm sorry but its BK that has to go and not Moyes. Come summer when he sells our best players there is going to be a riot.
One other thing that result today has knocked at least 10. 000 of the gate Tuesday for.

Believable13 Unbelievable1

I absolutely defend your right to strongly express your opinion, as long as it's not offensive, but I do wish you and other posters would put your name (or nickname) to your posts. By the way, I agree that we should have done more in the January transfer window, but not if made the club's financial situation even worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, this negativity lands firmly at the feet of the board and kenwright. we need strenghtening in jan, plain and simple the moyes situation is born out of frustration and lack of support from the board. for the first five months everyone was buzzing but we all knew how important January was. here we are now blaming players and the manager while the real culprits do what they usually do nothing,. you can tell by moyes body language that his relationship and trust with board is gone

I know that we are all disappointed and depressed at failing to get a result due to another late goal, but I feel that there are too many knee jerk reactions to the Moyes situation. We are still a great club, with a decent team and yes we still have a decent manager ( and yes I would prefer that he commits himself to the cause sooner rather than later ). As supporters we have a duty to get behind the team and the manager, starting on tuesday night. After all, we still have Wembley and European qualification through our league position to play for, so all is not yet lost. Let's get behind the team and be positive.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

I don't think it's a knee-jerk reaction to be criticising DM at the present time.
Of course the lack of strength and depth in our squad is a major factor, but we've seen too many examples of the team's individual & tactical errors costing us dear. It's up to the manager to prepare the team and motivate the players. If we once again fail to perform when we play that lot across the park, when so called lesser teams have defeated them this season, then it surely will be a case of DM having taken this club (with its current financial setup) as far as he can.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whilst I agree that Moyes like most managers does have his failings. I feel that as most of us felt that this was our most realistic chance of reaching the top 4 that he has been badly let down by our wealthy board members, who either failed or refused to put their hands in their pockets early enough during the January transfer window. Moyes can only work with the hand he has been dealt. Not for the first time some of our board members should hang their heads in shame.

Not pretty. Pretty mundane until 86 minutes (football lasts 90 plus a few). No drive, no ball hawks, no physicality at the end of the game. And just who was the striker after Jelly left?. And those corner kicks from the left? It has been fun watching Norwich, Oldham, and these other teams with drive and determination. Arggghhh. Can't let the Reds catch us, that would be a disaster.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Some players looked knackered. Was there illness in the camp? What kind of job is the club's fitness coach doing? Is our squad so lacking in numbers that we're having to use players that are not fit and have to be patched up week to week? Is DM's style of play - hard running, chasing back, etc. - so demanding on the players that they'll never recover between matches?

Fed up moyes has run his course I think it's time for a change. Many people are suggesting Roberto Martinez but I'm not so sure, he has regularly spent at Wigan in the last 3 years it has been 8 million, 8.3 million, 9.1 million, granted not a huge amount but a far bit compared to us and with this they are still in a relagation scrap year in year out. If we are looking for a manager who knows how to play nice football and get bargains we should take a look at Michael Laudraup. If he could sign us a Michu or somebody who could actually score it would be amazing. Another potential replacement which I do not think many of you would agree with however is Paul Lambert. As seen at Norwich he can work on a smaller budget, has great knowledge of the European game and plays fairly attractive football. I know he is not doing great at Aston villa but I he never had the players there and has to work with basically the youth team. Also Benteke for 7 million would have been affordable for us. As I have said before I'm not sure all of you would agree with me but I think that he has shown what he is capable of at Norwich.
Would be interested to hear what people's 3 man short list would be.
Cheers lads

id take martinez if he would come, at least we would play football and be a bit more positive, and you make out moyes has had no money to spend, in the last 3 windows he's spent 20m, and yes he had to sell to get the cash but he has still had that much that's more than martinez has.
5.5m mirallas 4.5m pienaar 5m jelavic 3m stones
0.5m gibson and kennedy, and naismith on a free.
ste c

Agree0 Disagree0

Martinez, Laudrup, Hughton.

Agree0 Disagree0

Blueclarkey- I would go for martinez for a few reasons. firstly I think he would jump at the chance to manage us. I think he is affordable.
he has been brought up to play football the right way and he was instrumental in totally resurrecting swansea and got them playing good football which was carried on by brenda and now Laudrup.
he has then gone on to manage in the premier league with limited resources at a very small club and the fact he has kept them there is a miracle. I think he plays attractive football and isn't afraid to take risks and am confident he would bring a lot of our younger players on. I worked with a lad last year who was a big wigan fan and he told me even though they are favourites to go down every season he is never defensive or negative and goes out to win every game with style.
Just what we need I reckon.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Laudrup leave Swansea to come here though? Would be a waste of time for him to do that. He may as well stay at Swansea.

Mike

Agree0 Disagree0

Not hughton he's even more defensive than moyes if that's possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

Roberto Martinez would be my first choice.
Laudrup is having a very good season, but it's just his first in the EPL. Besides, I reckon he's got unfinished business as a manager in Spain.
Whoever eventually succeeds DM, he'll have a difficult job blending a team/squad during the next few years as the core older players come to the end of their Everton careers, and as our younger talent take a while to develop into players suitable for the EPL, and as our list of available incoming players is restricted by our lack of funds (both in terms of transfer fees and wages), and as there'll probably be no lure of European football. {Ed025's Note - thats one thing i hope is looked at, our inability to bring young players through citizen..

Believable2 Unbelievable2

As depressed and angry as I feel right now dan I never want us to get beaten by anyone mate. let's all have our say have a moan get things off our chests wether we agree or disagree but wanting us to get beat is just frustration. come Tuesday like every other evertonian we will want to see our team win.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2013 18:49:13
Frustating that today. Should be beating teams like norwich, especially if we were one nil up away from home. I don't mind grinding results out, but i'm just not as confident as I was three or four years ago ( when we did win loads of games one nil and the steel of the team was there to be seen). Still don't think Moyes out, wish he would come out with the contract talks though, and would have liked someone fresh in the team in january, frustrating all the deals that we hear about where in the last hours.
However. if we can save money and spend some more in the summer, then I can somehow see the sense in it. Just seems like we're paying for that now, would have liked to get someone in and hopefully push for that fourth spot and a cup win. I've said for a while now 6th is the best we can hope for I think, squads just not good enough, end of. The starting 11 on their day are more than capable, and I do agree that the rest of that falls to the manager, but by and large, I think Moyes should stay.
Sign a new contract, some money spent in the summer after we win the FA cup and take it from there. if we get a new manager, I see the rebuild taking longer than its worth. only because were so close to our targets now with Moyes.
And yes Moyes is negative. but let's face it, our squad is not good enough to play attacking football week in - week out, before this season Moyes has got us to wear we out by Solid hard work, excellent defence and determination. I feel its the Determination, and motivation that is missing. purely from the lack of jan signings and moyes contract talks.
Come on the blues, let's get to wembley and not let the reds finish above us. {Ed025's Note - you make some good points molly, but for me we missed the boat mate!...we were in our strongest position for years, and a couple of signings could have seen us make that final push, but now that boat has sailed, and its crew look demoralised and flat, just my opinion..

Liverpool fan here, from Liverpool but living overseas. First off, I'm not here to take the Mickey over today. Wanted you lot to clear something up though, because I don't get it. Why all the negativity from a lot of the fans about moyes and some of the team? For me, moyes has done well without winning silverware. He hasn't had much money to spend, and most of the time spends the bit he gets wisely. It's nearly March and you're still in the cup, and have an outside chance of 4th. and you're above us! Wouldn't you have taken that last august? As a red I can say that moyes would be a welcome departure from goodison, because I don't think you would attract a 'big' name due to the lack of transfer kitty, and others that would take the job would have to be very good to do as well as him. Don't look at this site much, so don't know the score with the bigger picture at Everton. Just think some of the fans are a bit eager to start moaning. Anyway, all the best for the cup, I'd rather you won it than the mancs (but I hope we get above you in the league!). Davedee {Ed025's Note - as you say dave..you dont watch it every week, those of us who do, feel that moyes failure to sign a new contract, has been one of the reasons for our recent slump. if a player ran down his contract( like pienaar did) moyes would be very angry, and brandish them disloyal...so, people who live in glass houses and all that...by they way...give my regards to dozy, beaky, mick, and titch.. :)

Believable1 Unbelievable2

It's all about the football or lack of it with moyes. I think after 11 years most blues fans are fed up with his negative approach to games, a bit like your club when Woy was in charge, plus his contract issue has turned a lot of fans against him myself included.

Backing off the incredible disappointment of the result for a minute. we have to admit that the ship has been letting in water a while now. We have neat touches and control which very often takes us nowhere because the last incisive pass, or speed of movement against the opposition defence is missing. As Ed 25 said, nothing special coming from the Fellaini engine. Ossie and Peanuts are too similar in that they have come craft and guile but can't lose a player and allow the defence to organise which they work out a strategy. We can have 60 per cent of the possession each week the way we play. but not get a result. The Manchester United game told us all about our attacking limitations against the best, and the Villa, Norwich and Oldham games that we are not yet a team set apart to be knocking on the top four door. Best teams break with pace and players run in all directions to create gaps. So often we bring the ball out and we are stuck in midfield for what seems like an eternity because we have no one (with the exception of a fully fit Mirallas and maybe Coleman) who is going to run at the defence head on and creat the space for the killer pass. Moyse complaining about the extra 20 seconds and saying how well we played is rose-coloured spectacles. Give someone a chance. Barclay perhaps. who can change our predictability. Managers know how to play Everton!
Johnny {Ed025's Note - good post that johnny..and very fair mate..

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Agree with what you saying, plus too many times players will take a easy pass over trying a through ball that jelly or another is calling for. one thing I have to disagree with and that's ross! too many people think he is the next best thing, he could be, but at this moment in time the prem game is just a bit a head of him, gets caught with the ball and some times he is to indisisive, I watch him a good few times in shef wed colours and there he still didn't look close to the finish product. We all saw last season tottenham people were talking about the league for them and then redknap starts being linked with other jobs and that ruined their chances for the title and in the end they did get forth but it was a bit lucky concidering they had a 10 game streak of very poor results moyes was so so stupid to come out saying that about his contract I think if he had just said this will be my last season with the blues the players and the fans would really have got behind him and then with nothing to lose he could have played really attractive attacking football and so what we may concede a few but we would score lots more as well! My only question is now moyes has put himself and the fans in this position where are the goals going to come from? Vic is injured mirallas is being played on the wing jelly couldn't score if his life depended on it moyes just won't play anyone who is young baines is a rb and all the teams have figured our tactics out and moyes won't change them, just man marking down the left and man mark Fellaini and we have absolutely no idea what to do and end up having a very very deep back line normally around our 18 yard box and just keep hitting it up field to no one and not chasing it and just inviting more and more crosses into our box and inevitably we concede and then we panick and we all know what happenes then I just think its time for a change but I don't want someone like steve bruce we NEED a young manager looking to play attractive football and I am also concerned about our ageing sqaud and with lots of our first team over 30 and moyes seems more than reluctant to play anyone under the age of 22

I have to finally hold my hands up and say I've had enough. Moyes has put doubt in the minds of his players with his comments about his contract. I have no qualms with Moyes ability to buy quality players, whether this is his ability or that of his scouts remains in doubt. What I do have a problem with is his inability to get a full season out of his players, his tactical decisions and his decision not to give youth a chance.

Moyes comments were akin to your girlfriend saying "I'll stay with you as long as nobody better turns up", and I was shocked at how blas he was about internal matters.

I respect Moyes for the stability he has given the club and the group of players he has assembled, however I now believe he is no longer the man to take us to the next step. His somewhat cocky statement that HE will assess his situation at the end of the season should be taken out of his hands.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

had enough of moyes, if he doesn't want to sign a contract until he sees how we do then sack him because its his job to see how we do, no room for time wasters who think they're bigger than the club. So, stop messing around moyes and sign the contract or go. In addition, the performances recently sum up moyes' negative attitude. Don't be scared of conceding, just get the goals to win the match, I'd rather see a 5-3 win than a 1-1 draw. Take some risks.

well iv always suported moyes, but I think he is going end of season. expectation on the players with what he has said WILL be effecting there game, no matter what he says, they know he wants 4th, which after today is out of reach, imo! FA success will not keep him with us, so sorry to say this, but in my eyes he should take the thank you hand shake and let us move on. get a manager in and maybe a boost in moral to push us forward till the end of the season. players need to play not just for the fans and themselves, but have the confidence in there manager to play for him and win for him, knowing he is there for them, which moyes has thrown doubt to. players signing new contracts for moyes but yet he keeps everyone else hanging, sorry, but we are everton, and we should not be held to ransome by anyone. like I said, iv always supported moyes, think he has done amazing with what resourses he had, but if you hearts no longer with us moyes, don't think you should be, thanks again, but let us move on. OR just sign and show your intent!

come on everton! I want another 2 trips to wembley, and joyful ones this time!

Is our season going to be all about tuesday, can we beat Oldham, will we finish in the top six, every year I buy my season ticket full of hope, next year I will do the same and will carry on year after year with the same feeling that this is the year but that hope is now begining to fade, I do hope i'm wrong,
mr moyes please if this is it, thank you and good luck for the future but we need to sort it out now not when all our hope has faded for another year.

Awful, awful result. Fed up with negative tactics. Wouldn't quite say "Moyes Out" yet, as he's done a lot of good and frankly, we have no idea who we'd replace him with. Even if we went for say, Martinez, there's no guarantee he'd join. But what I would love is for David Moyes to make a decision now on his future. Stop mucking around, and playing with the club that made you the respected manager you are today. Either sign, or make it clear you aren't, so we can line up a replacement. I'm 95% sure we won't get 4th. Even if Spurs completely collapsed, don't think we'd catch Arsenal, and even Liverpoo look like they're on the up. Think we need to focus on the Cup now - try and win a trophy. That wouldn't persuade Fellaini to stay, and if anything, I think it might even persuade Moyes to leave - as he can then leave with a nice send-off, knowing he has won a trophy here. Let's face it, we really SHOULD beat Oldham tomorrow, and we should beat Wigan at home too. We are then looking at Wembley, with a 50% chance of it being Milwall/Blackburn. And even if we get City or United, we've beaten them both recently. Who's to say we wouldn't do it on the day?I think the squad looks tired and the club needs something new. January is where we lost 4th imho, but time and time again under Moyes we throw away leads playing defensively. Hopefully, let's bounce back with a big win vs Oldham, then get to Wembley. Anything in the league is a bonus. But I would be absolutely devastated if we finished below Liverpoo. {Ed025's Note - great post that AJ..

In reference to the OP who said about dominating them and taking nothing: We didn't dominate the game. Norwich deserved a point, if not the 3 they eventually got.

Unless the board want to back Moyes with pure dosh, he has to go, not only for the sake of teaching the Board a lesson, but also for the club. His tactics and just everything is wrong when we go ahead.

I know Moyesy's problem, in his 11 year reign, has been sitting back, but I thought that changed at the start of the season (eg: sticking it to Villa when they were down and grabbing 3 goals when it would normally be 2 at a big push, and taking Orient for 5 when we just would get 3 at the most up before sitting back - not to mention getting 3 vs. Swansea, Saints, etc), however we've crashed down since then.

If Moyesy leaves now (at the end of the season I mean) then he'll be remembered for the good he did, because no one can have a go when he's been backed with virtually just a packet of Jaffa Cakes in the Transfer Windows.

There comes a time when everything has to change, and Utd. will be hit hard in the same fashion when Red Nose leaves them, but our time has come. And don't say I'll change my mind if we pick up a win or two.

The perfect ending for us now can be:
We win the FA Cup.
Then win on the place where we can't seem to - it's like they have the Indian sign over us - An*lfield.
We then bid Moyesy a farewell and thank him for the places he's took us, considering his Jaffa Cake budget.

Thanks Moyesy, good luck in the future, but we need to change. {Ed025's Note - good post that keith..

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Good OP from Keith EFC.
DM's time as Everton manager is at a close, surely? Thanks for what you've done, good luck in the future, but let's bring in someone who'll start a new era based on younger talent playing attacking football - even if that means a transitional period of finishing mid-table for a few seasons. It can't be any worse than the prospect of our ageing, knackered, unable-to-clinically-finish, unable-to-properly-defend, current squad disappearing down a bottomless pit of boring, clueless, heartless, winless, negative dross played in front of dwindling crowds of despairing supporters.

I think moyes should go, apart from his negative tactics, the thing that annoys me the most is his reluctance to try something different, we've been on the slide since southampton away, in that time we've had a transfer window one new face brought in, does he ever try a new formation, even try a kennedy or a vellios stones or a barkley our form couldn't get any worse, I just hope he gives someone different a go on tuesday but I won't hold my breath, I really am proper fed up.

I try to take a reasoned view of things, but today's loss at Norwich beggars belief. I now fully expect the team to capitulate as usual to Liverpool and that'll be it for the league. As far as the FA Cup is concerned, who honestly believes, on our current form, that we'll win that trophy considering the other EPL clubs still in it.
BK's failure to get new investment, DM's uncertainty about staying, the lack of a modern stadium, the lack of squad depth & quality, our better players most likely moving on for Champions League football - these are all contributing factors to our ongoing failings, which will surely continue until someone gives everyone at our club a massive kick up the arse. I'm fed up with all the (patronising) comments about our club "punching above its weight". I blame the mid-1980s European ban and the Agent Johnson era for knocking our club back, but we've had plenty of time to move on. I don't doubt the efforts and good intentions of those at the club for the past ten years, but enough's enough - even for eternally patient me! Time for Moyes to go - tactically naive. {Ed025's Note - we were so in control, then shut up shop...it was poor tactics..

Fully agree. I love what DM has done for us, but the board don't want to know, and nor does Moyesy anymore.

just picked up the following on the arsenal fans website after the defeat by Bayern: "Arteta was bought to be a deep lying midfielder but can't do the job the team requires of him, which is breaking up opposition play and slotting through balls to strikers, we got him 5 years too late. " True.
Although it is made out that Arteta made all the moves before getting his move to Arsenal, Moyse knew that he was not the same player and sanctioned it, which was good business for the club. I think Moyse, for all his blindspot over PN, knows what is going to work and who is labouring out on the pitch. Naismiths career as a top player is already in doubt, and as much as Fellaini would be a loss, he is not in my opinion irreplaceable if the money were used shrewdly. If we move a bit faster than a trolley at Tescos in the summer transfer window, we could (Europe or no Europe) have a very decent starting squad in August.

Been a lot of comments on here saying that young players don't get a chance here at Everton. I find this strange and hard to believe, when clearly we have a great academy and bring through as many if not more young players than most clubs.

Just for fun I have compiled a list of young players that have come into the team, and then played more than one or two games with the club, during Moyes' time at the club;

Ossie, Duffy, Coleman, Gueye, Rooney, Vellios, Barkley, Baxter, Rodwell, Anichebe, Vaughan, Gosling, add to this the likes of Garbutt, Wallace, McAleny, Bidwell, Hope, Apkan and Junior, who have all been in and around the squad.

Irrespective of where these players are now, you have to say that is not a bad record. So I have two questions.

1. Who have I forgotten in my list?

2. Which other Top 8 team has introduced that many young/academy players into the Premiership?

For me only Ossie, Coleman, Rooney, Rodwell, Anichebe, Vaughan and Gosling are the only ones who have had anything like a fair chance at Everton under moyes, and there are quite a few clubs who have better Academy's than we have like Saints, Villa, Liverpool Utd, Arsenal, Middlesbro, west ham irrespective of where they all are in the league there is no getting away from all have produce more young players and given them more chances than what we have over the years.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not fussed, I trust what Moyes does, I mean David Moyes has a chance to see this young lads every day in training or in matches.

If they are good enough, I am sure they will make it into our squad.

There are a couple youngsters that could become first team players, players like Lundstram, Barkley (more regular first XI hopefully), Green, Kennedy, Stones, Long and a few others.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair point Mike but I would exclude the Saints and West Ham merely because although they undoubtedly have great academies, being consistently outside the Top 8 and often even the Premier League makes it much easier for them to introduce young players, as they are not under as much pressure to maitain results and league position.

I also think that a lot of the young players coming through at Arsenal have been young overseas recruits who were only brought to the club at a later age. (as are some of the players in my Everton list of course).

Also excluding the last 2 years or so I can't rem that many young players getting a chance at Liverpool in the last 10 yrs. Though perhaps I am wrong?

Oh and also Boro obviously for the same reasons! :)

Only osman and rooney could be considered a success and rooney was a no brainer. he was on the radar when he was 14 years of age.
so the only decent young player moyes has" unearthed" is osman and he is hardly a world beater!
no I am sad to say our davie doesn't like blooding young players in the right way at all.
look at the young kid junior for example. he was getting rave reviews up till leeds game.
why didn't dour davie start with strong 11 then bring him on later in the game. the poor lad struggled and has never been seen since.
Velios is another. gets 5 minutes here and there. that's no good to anyone. even in your playing sunday league you need a run of games.
I have had enough of moyes.
time to move on

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough stewillow but how many of the players on that list have gone on to do anything of worth after being allowed to leave. ?

Vaughan could hardly get a game at Norwich, Barkley had to drop down 2 divisions to find football, as did Wallace, and Apkan went down a few divisions before being picked up by Reading. So is it that DM has not used them properly or not given them a chance? Or simply that they were not really good enough for a Top 8 Premiership team?

Because if the second is true, why is DM (who sees the players day-in-day-out) being criticised for not playing them?

btw Coleman has also been a success imo, Anichebe is starting to play well, Rodwell/Rooney made us a fortune and Ossie, Vellios and Barkley etc are still here. Dithering Dave Indeed. !

Honestly saying he has not won a trophy is valid criticism. but saying that he is no good in the transfer market or he doesn't give youth a chance is just not credible!

How can anyone be sure that DM wouldn't take the job at Chelsea or ManCity just because we imagine that he supposedly wouldn't have total control of football matters at those clubs? Who's to say that he wouldn't say which players come and go at those clubs if he's their manager? And he'd certainly prepare the players, select the team, and decide the tactics. What he clearly wants, IMHO, is to win something in England and - be honest - is that more likely at those clubs at present than at our club?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because he won't be offered the Chelsea job as they don't want him and neither do Utd, Arsenal or anyone half decant.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will struggle to get another job if he leaves us. I mean his CV won't make impressive reading for any new chairman/owner.
Not a sniff of a trophy in 10 years!.
i can only see him going to celtic if lennon moves to EPL.
He may have a chance of winning a trophy up there but then again it is dithereing Dave we are talking about here!
