League Cup. It's about 30 years since we got to a final. Successive managers have bombed out early. This year we even got a bye for one round. I said a while back that it was a competition for the taking. Just look at some of the lower league teams still left.
This year I would have taken an early exit if it was done constructively i.e. giving the youngsters a chance with the players who needed a game such as Gibbo. There was absolutely nothing to learn in playing Hibbo, Distan, Howard etc.
I also believe top managers need to be ruthless. Results come first ahead of loyalty. It's time to see if RM can be Mr Nasty as well as Mr Nice.

How bad is Lukaku this season.he's got a worst first touch than Brett angell

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's a goalscorer rather than a footballer. If his first touch is still this bad at his age it's unlikely to get much better - you learn that as a kid. I also think we paid double his actual worth despite no one else being interested because we were desperate for goals. Let's hope we start seeing these goals soon. 4 a game should guarantee a draw minimum.

Two quotes from Roberto surely worth including on this Banter page?
"We had two very good opportunities to score the first goal and it could have been really different. Once you concede, you don't want to lose the game by small margins.

Well we didn't Roberto, we got beat 3-0!

And the next paragraph:

"We got back into the game, ''

No we didn't score Roberto so how could we get back in the game!

Now I like many others are not really bothered about going out last night, it's the manner of the defeat which clearly shows we at best have 13/14 players capable of competing at the highest level.
Plays Tony Hibbert who has not played for two years and last night got roasted, not a real surprise.
I remember going to Boro away with high hopes many years ago. Our defence was a shambles and we got battered 3-0. That was Mike Walkers last game in charge.
Now I'm not advocating such treatment for RM but me thinks Bill has a duty to all Everton fans to call a friendly meeting with Roberto to ask the question, 'What steps are you taking to stop our defence leaking goals like the portside of the Titanic?'
Let's be honest guys, when are opponents are attacking us, do any of you feel comfortable?

Brought up watching 'Labby' at centre half, he would turn in his grave if he could see the inept performances presently on offer.
Just pray to God that the RS defence performs as we do on Saturday.
Would take a big score draw.

Ed, I've got a pic of an article about Robert Elstone being in Qatar, but I don't know how to upload it. Supposedly he's here to share football expertise at a business for football shorrt course. but there may be much more behind it.

Eddy if you still have them, and you don't have access to social media, how were you hoping to get them moved on. I can't give out any personal details on here as its too risky. Where do you live?

another joke of a performance, this started sunday with the squad changes, he should have kept the same team suday then played, sundays team yesterday, remember the most important game is the always next one, isn't it? go help us in the derby if we defend like that. ed, say something to make us feel better!

Does anybody else find those pop ups at the bottom of the pages really annoying & distracting? There isn't even a little 'x' button to delete them. I know the ads pay for the site but please Ed, find a less intrusive place on the page for them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the only ads we have like that are ones that expand when you hover your cursor over them. So just move the mouse away, they will shrink again. We would prefer not to run ads like that, but so many of the others we have tried just don't pay up. These are one of the few reliable (hopefully) people who will actually pay up what they owe. I am actively chasing sponsors for features etc, so we can bin ads in favour of getting advertisers to sponsor features like the poll of the day instead. I am hoping that will be a lot less intrusive.}

I feel a bit guilty about posting now, Ed. I realise it must involve a lot of work keeping these sites up & running. We do all appreciate the work you & all the other Ed's do. I must have just needed a moan about something other than the Swansea result!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - don't worry about it mate, it was annoying and it has gone now. We have to have some ads, but that one was just not worth having.}

I clicked one of the mid page ads for a laugh as it was about the best chat up lines that girls always go for - (im happily married and not interested in using them but I wanted
To see what they were anyway) and it took me to one of those pages that pop up sex related stuff and wouldn't let you close it down afterwards - even with a reboot) those kind of ads are dangerous and very annoying - so would hope the ed team are not taking those any more - and are checking they don't do it - even if they pay you

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they should not be there anyway, if you do get an issue like that ever again, please use the contact form to tell us exactly which ad so we can block it.}

Now let's see, who was missing from the starting team last night for the so important Mickey Mouse cup?
Coleman, Baines, Jagielka, Barry, McCarthy, Pienaar, Miralas, Lukaku, sure it might have been a different result had most of them played. But it obviously showed priorities last night and I for one aren't as distraught as some on here that were now out!!
The chances we had V palace we should have won, they had 3 mistakes and finished them all, it happens but we still should have won.
So with a fully fit team for Saturday, reds won't be looking forward to meeting us.
All last night showed is what I've said for years even in Moyes time, the squad is not big enough quality wise not quantity wise.

I agree with you Howie, it might have been a different result if the first 11 played last night. But that does not hide the fact that we have been leaking goals, some soft ones at that, in every game so far this season. RM made a mistake in not bringing in another cb in the last window, we all knew we needed more cover. I like the way he has got us playing some good football since he arrived yet that should be coupled with a solid, tight defence. We seen what happened to his previous team playing in such a manner. That said. I think we have more quality than his Wigan team but, at this rate, we will be nowhere near the euro places come end of the season. Bring in a quality defensive coach asap. Teams won't fear coming to Goodison the way we ship goals

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes it was hugely important, when you have won bugger all for 2 decades every trophy is important (or it should be) what is the point of playing otherwise? The game is about winning yet we continue with our small club mentality of 'oh well never mind, its the taking part that counts'.

If calling it Mickey Mouse makes people feel better then so be it, I guarantee there would have been street parties if we'd of won it though.

We are Everton
#Wedontwinanything
That's what we do

Pathetic.

And can someone please take that stupid Martinez mural down and wait until he at least achieves something before sticking it back up.

Agree0 Disagree0

So we shouldn't have blown the budget on just player.

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't need a CD we need another RB so Stones can play in CD. Without Seamus at the weekend I fear it may be another bad day at the office.

Conceded 17 goals in 7 matches. Martinez needs to alter things as this is not acceptable. Less focus on passing the ball round every single player about five teams before we can even look danferous and play more decisively and with conviction. We are overplaying which causes the team to relax and loose focus. Also, we allow teams time to organise, and basically set up the tents. I hate to say this but we need a result at Anfield. Some need to pull there fingers from particular crevices and get the job done!

Good post Blue-Tit

This is an issue that must be addressed right now today etc. not tomorrow!

Ok so let's forget about the last 4 days, and move on, we know where our problems lie, so at least we are not blind! We have an amazing squad and real game changers in the side, all I want Bobby to return to that daring manager he was last season, taking chances, making tactical master class's, having no fear!!

On a brighter note ( have to find one today or il go nuts) our 1st choice back 4 of Cloleman, stones, jags and Bainsy have only played 2 games and we won thoses 2-0 and 4-1! So I'm going to concentrate on that this week ahead of our visit to the dark side!

Come on guys show some dignity, Koppites must be laughing their heads off, especially after some posters criticised them last week, embarrassing to say the least.

facing relegation - your having a laugh aren't ye, seriously

Martinez out - fickle and embarrassing quote

Distin - worst player ever - come on the guy has been class

We are having a bad time but we will get better, a few bad games and the posse is on the march, I hope our players don't read some of these posts.

And before the embarrassing posters come back at me, I KNOW WE ARE STRUGGLING, but slamming players and managers is not the answer, its shameful, embarrassing and shows what calibre of fans we must have

Probably the same posters who wanted Seamus out a couple of years ago, oh also wanted to string Naisy up by his bo***x, probably the same ones who hate Bill.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We'll said Murf some of the fans comments on here r laughable slow start but I think we will destroy teams this season once we gain abit of confidence back wotever happens this season I think we need to look at the bigger picture we have some world class youngsters tied down to our club and with a few additions I think next season and the one after will be when we can challenge at the top our club is in a great position at the moment I feel it is our time to challenge at the top again the future is very bright

I'm convinced Martinez did not want to progress in this cup as we would just have been too fixture conjested - with players getting tired, injuries and bookings etc

Better off out of it

However, Distin is an awful footballer and its really showing at the moment - don't know how he became a professional when he has two left feet

Keep him away from the team sheet

Fancy us to beat the reds this weekend with our A team back Coyb!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's left footed as well haha

Agree0 Disagree0

This could be> a reflection of our team/club/coach priority at the moment?

Or it could be a sign of> to hell with keeping clean sheets let's win the Europa and damn the rest of it including the PL?

The key question for me is>when will the change in defensive strategy come and pull the plug on a possible free fall especially in the PL?
