Just got back from the match folks and that was tough, I stayed until the end unlike a large amount that filed out when the 3rd went in! Our 2nd half team played much much better than the 1st half one. Some of the 1st half players such as Davies, Niasse, Sig, we know can do better but unless they deliver this on a ‘real’ match day they going to struggle to start games (Sig maybe exception due to WC) . It’s not looking good, it’s going to take time and players me thinks I remain positive, but I have done for the last 6 years 🤷🏼‍♂️.

27 Jul 2018 17:11:58
We all love Niasse he is a trier but is he a premier league player? Like a lot of our players brought in recently he is just not good enough. Davies I think could be a good player but maybe needs to go out on loan, to play at Everton last year must have been tough for a youngster.
Siggy just needs the right manager I reckon he is very talented as he has proved in the world cup.
A lot of players are injured but Calvert Lewin I do not think will ever be more than a championship player sadly.
I was not there last night as do not go to away games anymore but it must have been a tough watch.
Nobody has yet mentioned the goalkeeper, is he good enough to be a number 2?

On the Watford issue, I've been searching the efl governance and while there's a section on illegal approach for players there is nothing about such an approach for managers maybe I missed it but I genuinely can't find it

I know this is only a friendly and not full strength teams but surely we can perform better than that - especially when you consider there were approx 4000 away supporters.

maybe Silva is trying to put some of the players in the so called " shop window" as he has no plans for them within his plans but to be honest you could not give half of that team away for free ( tongue in cheek ) . couple of weeks before the season starts and unless new players arrive I am not too hopeful.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

26 Jul 2018 22:23:18
Same team in the 2nd half that finished 8th under Allardyce, except we were missing Walcott, pickford and siggy. Surely that is a reason for optimism. Also Richalison for Bolasie has improved us massively.
A CB and MF and we will look vastly better than last year.
Tosun who couldn't miss last season could have had at least 2 and Richalison 2 aswell.

Ok Allerdyce was boring but he could get a load of crap into 8th, this guy might entertain but to 18th possibly
You cannot judge on a few friendlies I do realise that and we have not seen the team that will start the season, but so far my belief that we will have a very bad season is not being challenged in anyway.

27 Jul 2018 00:36:01

Silva's task for the new Premier League season seems monumental, but we are all in this together. Let's look forward to the future and not let negativity creep in.

Just on my way back from Blackburn. The side in the first half bar sigi won’t be anywhere near our first team they were all awful sadly. Second half our first choice side seemed sharper. Richarlison was by a country mile the best player on the pitch. Two footed, good in the air, works hard and has creativity. Looks quality.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2018 21:41:19
Why do I get the feeling (Blackburn v Everton) this new guy is Martinez returned to Management. 9 changes second half and yet defence like under Martinez goes out the window. I so hope Mr Silva can adapt his tactics and team shape because these last pre-season games do not bode well.

27 Jul 2018 09:35:23
Why why why are we even worried about the result, Silva need to play players to see who is and isn't good enough, I bet last night showed him more than if we went out and won 3-0 .
All this doom and gloom already is rediculiouss and you have no idea about football.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2018 21:19:05
Wow. We might seriously get relegated this season. We are not set up to fight and are not good enough to play. In fairness to Silva Richarlison looked ok. Coleman always looks decent. That's it. The rest really are not close to good enough.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

26 Jul 2018 21:34:12
And your analysis comes from?
A few preseason games without 3 of our first teamers.
No siggy, pickford or Walcott.
Gana back today and looked lively as usual.
We should be thankful you've given Silva and brands 6 weeks to sort out the mess Koeman and Allardyce left us in.
Svenny you will never be satisfied because after a few weeks you have us relegated. It's impatient fans like you that will be booing after a couple of losses.

26 Jul 2018 21:44:19
Agree Smit let's get a settled side together 9 changes at half time and we looked better definitely not the finished article, Richarlson looks like he's going have an influence on our play next season and can see why we paid the money let's now see what Brands can do with getting people in and out he saw first hand tonight so I'm betting tomorrow non stop phone calls. But When my please relegation really?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2018 21:42:42
But early to start waving the “Silva Out” banners Svenny. The point of friendlies is to assess the squad, hence the nine changes at half time. Surely M&M will be using these games to look at potential from the youth ranks and make decisions on who and what we still need to bring in.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2018 21:55:33
Hopefully Svenny you will wake up in the morning and realise how silly that post was.

true I didn't think we could get worse but we have how did keane become a pro footballer he really is the worst football player I have ever seen. Too many players not interested sandro is a disgrace and should be sent back to spain asap he is a prick we are rubbish.

Agree1 Disagree2

26 Jul 2018 22:22:17
Svenny is correct the three players that you mention would not have made that much difference to us we had no heart no fight and no clue we have far too many players that are not good enough and players that don't want to be there so why are the still there we should have had a mass clear out over the last 3 weeks and the fact we haven't tells me that these cheating inept players are staying and that is simply not good enough oh and every player that we are supposed to be buying goes elsewhere we have just been destroyed by BLACBURN ROVERS not REAL MADRID! so right now we should all be very worried.

27 Jul 2018 01:24:48
Sigurdsson played 45 minutes, didn’t touch the ball. My analysis comes from the clear change in style Silva is trying to introduce which needs capable players. When did I say Silva out? I said in fairness the one signing he has made clearly without Brands looks our best player.
I am totally behind the manager but when Jags gets done like that for a goal it means a great player for us is now too old. The midfield is bang average. Davies as I’ve said from when he first broke in to the team is a championship player. Dowell has some class for sure. Allardyce has us compact and hard to beat. We’ve upgraded and are now trying to play a very high tempo quick passing game which I like. We just don’t have the players to do it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - fair post mate.

3-0 Woburn and to think i'm in work at 3am and I'm staying up to watch this. Brands is there watching guessing he's going to busy the next 2 week's I thought we were looking livelier the 2nd half with all the changes its just the defending we can't get right need to find a settled partnership.

Agree2 Disagree1

26 Jul 2018 21:42:49
Williams and Pennington in 1st half was never going to end well. Give the lads time to get used to the zonal marking, not something we played much of up to now.
Richalison looks class, Sandro I think is going to get better and better with time. The lad has a good engine and can pass. Maybe a pacey striker to go with Richalison and Walcott would be deadly.

26 Jul 2018 22:20:44
I first posted under “Cowpat Sid 2” because a cantankerous ;-) Ed banned my original i'd of “Cowpat Sid”. I think the Ed was annoyed by me repeating a question - or me seeking clarification of a response - in a thread. Anyhow, it’s their website and their rules so c’est la vie.

After a further while, I took a break from posting - mainly (as best I can recall) because the later months of Martinez’s reign had seen me go from enjoyment (of his first season) to anger (at his stubborn tactics) then indifference and apathy (as the club dawdled) until I just fell out of love with football.

It didn’t take too long for my addiction to Everton to get me enthused again, so - despite the worst efforts of Koeman and Allardyce - I started posting again. Here’s the confession: to start with a clean slate, I did indeed start using BobbyC1878 - as some of you posters (and Eds! ) believed.

Going forward, I’m taking a break from posting on here (under both pseudonyms) , as the info I often post (about squad lists, regulations, etc. ) is readily available elsewhere and doesn’t need repeating by me. I’m also wearing myself off other social media - not just as an active contributor, but also as a “passive” reader - so that I’m not ruled by it. It’s time to get a life ;-)

My final words for the time being are that, in my humble opinion, the club has a huge task on and off the field in order to make satisfactory progress and I don’t want to be let down again by another false dawn and broken “promises” - I definitely want ambition and confidence from the club, but I don’t want unrealistic BS or double-speak that disrespects the fans.

By the way, I’ll enjoy the sarcasm (irony? ) of the usual contrarians giving a “thumbs down” to this post - ha-ha!
Enjoy the Summer and look forward to the new season.

Hi ed 2 thanks for the great info again just wondering on this Watford situation am I right in thinking we initially offered some amount of compo but then withdrew it as we had evidence of Watford tapping up Silva when he was at hull was this basically again dirty tactics from us and just an attempt to muddy the waters at the end of the day we have been caught with our fingers in the cookie jar and that's it we need to accept the consequences it seems that we haven't learnt it's not our first time doing this and people forget other clubs have been punished for it we just need to accept and move on hopefully sooner the better put the sorry affair behind us clean up our act and move on.

It is all acedemic re Silva. If as Ed002 says, we made a direct approach to Silva, then Watford do indeed have justification to make a complaint. The rules are quite simple. I guess Watford just need to prove that we approached Silva without permission.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

26 Jul 2018 19:28:24
Ed is saying everton aren't denying the claim so Watford must want an apology and a bag of toffees.

I'm waiting for someone to say they're bad dad jokes 5-4-3-2-1.

By the way I want a refund on the match stream. Even if it was working! haha.

I’d be interested to know what interpretation you would give to the quote below (taken directly from Watford’s statement) .

“We believe this situation is not about a compensation figure but the principle of making a stand when the actions of one Premier League club completely undermine and cause intrinsic damage to a fellow member club. “

What is the “intrinsic damage” would you say?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Anecdotal that the illegal and unprofessional approach by Everton football club caused distraction to their manager and the club. The complaint is a specific breach of a specific regulation. I am not so sure why you are all struggling with this.}

26 Jul 2018 17:56:43
That being the case, then why did we hire the guy, if our alleged approach caused his professionalism to implode. This is a Manager/ Coach that does not tend to stay long anywhere, hardly the consistency and long term plan our Club is apparently after. I am playing devils advocate in this, so a grown up conversation please.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Aside from a period at Estoril he was a journeyman player and a journeyman manager but he was the one recommended to Everton and he was the one the club went after.}

26 Jul 2018 18:46:15
Ed2. Ignoring all this tapping up business for a moment. Do you believe Everton finally took the proper advice and appointed the right manager?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure. There has to be a decent sized risk for someone who has made so many moves in a short period of time.}

26 Jul 2018 19:02:29

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think the team will look much the same as last season bretto to start with, richie will be a direct replacement for bolasie and if digne comes in he will be in the back four, the difference will be in the playing style i hope and players will be brought in over the next couple of windows and be integrated slowly, this wont be a quick fix mate but if we show some patience and do things in the right way im sure we will see the benefits..im excited about the journey..

26 Jul 2018 12:14:30
I'd like one of the Eds to clarify what clubs can and can't do in terms of approaching another club's contracted player regarding a transfer. I'm asking about the official rules, not what may or may not actually happen.
Must the other club give official consent for a direct approach to their player?
Is it allowed for a club to use an intermediary (agent) to approach the player so as to apparently avoid any "direct approach"?
Are the rules the same for domestic transfers and for international transfers?
How do the rules change when a player is nearing the end of his contract - when is he allowed to be approached directly by another club?
Finally, are the rules consistently enforced - or do the authorities generally turn a blind eye unless the player's club makes an official complaint?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs can talk to a players agent but not directly to the player without the permission of his club. Those rules apply for domestic and international players. Where a player is in the final year of his contract, clubs from a different FA can talk to him from January on, clubs from the same FA cannot talk directly to the player befoe May, unless his club agrees it. The authorities do not become involved unless there is a formal written complaint made, and then they are often reluctant to do anything unless pushed. Internationally it can be escalated to FIFA who would act.}

Ed002: thanks for the clarification.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Everton were in breach of the Premier League rules making an approach to Silva without the permission of his club.}

26 Jul 2018 16:47:26
Did Everton actually make an approach directly to Silva Ed? I understood that Everton approached Watford and were refused? But word got out and the rest is history. But I guess that this cannot be 100% true because Watford are so upset.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes they did.}

Watford still seeking compensation from Everton over the so called tapping up of Marco Silva. They say we disabled their season by approaching their manager, please have a look closer to home haven't they rifled through 9 managers in 5 seasons. Come on wake up and smell the coffee what a liberty.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Everton were totally unprofessional in their approach. Don't try and deflect and blame something else, it is embarrassing.}

26 Jul 2018 11:32:00
Ed002; What is your understanding of how long it will take the Premier League to investigate Watford’s complaint and announce their findings and conclusion?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no fixed timescale Bobby. The complaint was originally made in November and they are now pushing for the Premier League to do something as it is in direct breach of the PL rules and to date they have done nothing. If they decide that there is a need to appoint a Commission it could drag out - and Watford will request or will have requested a Commission be formed and not dealt with by the board. If the PL are uncomfortable with it all they can refer the matter to the FA - but neither club would want that.}

26 Jul 2018 12:02:37
Who actually knows the rules? I don't. All teams go for who they want. Can someone clarify the rules of engagement.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Your lack of knowledge is hardly a surprise. All if the teams know the rules, I know the rules, most supporters would know the rules. Everton acted illegally, unprofessionally and in breach of the rules. Watford want them punished. It is really very simple.}

26 Jul 2018 12:21:29
Ed002: Thanks for your reply.
The idea that everyone else supposedly breaks the rules and therefore anyone is entitled to break them too is wrong imho. All rule-breaking should be investigated impartially and sanctions applied as allowed and appropriate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I don't think you will find that everybody else breaks the rules.}

26 Jul 2018 12:36:04
Tapping up or tampering goes on and a lot of clubs have done it. Some would argue most, rightly or wrongly. But it’s illegal and punishable. So if you court trouble, you can’t complain if it hits the fan.

The two teams were invited to sort it out between themselves and that’s not worked out. That was the oppotune time to make this right and now it’s going to get messy.

I won’t blindly support the club if it’s acted unprofessionally but I won’t judge either as I’m not in view of the facts.

I would though be interested in how it works out as there are more brazen examples that have gone unpunished.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jul 2018 12:40:22
Ed002: that’s why I said “supposedly”.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2018 14:29:22
What is the likely punishment Ed for such a breaking of the rules - fine, points docked or a mixture of both?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If it goes to a Commission hearing the options they have for any punishment are:
- reprimand
- an unlimited fine (I would think this would be the probably out come)
- suspend the club from playing in League Matches or any matches in competitions
- deduct points
- impose a transfer ban
- recommend that the League expels the club from membership

26 Jul 2018 14:41:14
Suppose we better have a whip round all.

It’s a shame we (the club) have acted as we have. I’ve always liked to think of our image as the ‘Everton in the community’ side of the club but maybe it’s time to take off those rose tinted glasses.

Hopefully things will improve in accordance with changes within the club at the end of last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not really, as far as I recall Everton were the last Premier League to be charged with tapping up a professional player as well.}

26 Jul 2018 15:48:00
Which player was that Ed? Was it fairly recently?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - About four years ago, Jamaal Lascelles.}

26 Jul 2018 16:15:19
Thanks Ed. Was that when he was still at Forest or had he moved to Newcastle by then? Shame we went the wrong way about it because he's turned into a very good player IMO so could have done with doing it above board and getting him in then.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Forest and yes you are correct.}

26 Jul 2018 18:54:31
Embarrasing af this especially as it is a repeat. No excuse, its a disgrace. Do you know the person/ persons directly responsible for the illegal approach please ed002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to go down that road.}

26 Jul 2018 19:17:24
Okay ed. Thanks for all the information on the situation. I think there's is an issue that needs resolving wihin the club, twice within 4 years is terrible. Like you said ed, the rules are clear so why are we doing this. We would all be annoyed if it was the other way around. Like I said embarassing.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2018 21:01:59
As indirect approaches via intermediaries (agents) are apparently permissible (and seemingly the norm) , I’m rather surprised that Everton engaged in the illegal approach that Watford are complaining about.
Whether the illegal approach was by design or by incompetence, it clearly shows a lack of professionalism.
I’m expecting that the restructuring of the club’s board and senior management will mean that these errors of judgement are long gone and our current and future dealings will be right and proper.

What do we think would be progress this season? I won't worry about positions but would be satisfied with 10-12 more points and 15-20 ore goals and see where that takes us. A decent cup run would be good but that depends on the draw and not getting a top 5 early on like last season.

Flowing and attacking football Ricktee. That's what I'd see as progress as surely the results will follow.

What I want us to do and what I expect us to do are different.
I want us to finish at least 7th, win a domestic cup, qualify for Europe, and see a younger, energetic, committed team playing entertaining football.
I expect a top-half finish and definite progression towards successful football.

Be great to see a bit of movement on the transfer front today. All the news on Digne sounds positive. Mina deal looks like it’ll be trickier to get over the line. Depends wether he wants Premier League exposure over Champions League exposure I guess. Positive feeling around the club, need to keep it going with a few more faces to excite the fans.

If Man U want him they will get him over us. Anyway, must have been good to get Barcelona to buy him but the 3 games he played I was nor impressed with Mina defensive skills. He scored 3 goals and that is all everyone is looking at.
