Can't quite work out some of our fans they want a statement signing but then say they don't want Rooney, not being funny but we sit going to get anyone bigger that him, I would take him all day long as I feel short time he improves us and long term his knowledge he can give youth players can't be bought, so can do his coaching badges with us, our club will go to next level when stadium gets built I know it's 3 years down the line but everything about a Rooney return makes sense for both parties, I'm not stupid enough to think we're getting the Rooney of old back, but he's perfect to help us bridge the gap.
Would love to know what the realistic fans think.

Already a big thread on the rumour's page on this. A lot it seems wants him back.

Not sure if Rooney would expect to be a regular starter if he joined us, which may be an issue. I know he has sat on the bench at ManU but can't see him wanting to do that with us. He is not the player he used to be by any stretch of the imagination so I personally would not buy him. I think we need to be looking for young hungry players that we can build around not Stars in their twilight years. I am sure RK and SW are actively looking to improve the squad and am looking forward to see who we actually get.

150 grand a week to sit on the bench? Would much rather pay Sigurdssen that and have him on the pitch.

Rooney is no longer a statement signing.

{Ed025's Note - im with you john..

You can bet your bottom dollar there is plenty of premiership teams who would take him in a heart beat. Who knows how he would play if he came back? Plenty of players looked past it before and got reborn again. Why can't Rooney do the same? Quite capable of doing so.

{Ed025's Note - i just think hes past his best NBTB, with all the money and fame he has im worried that he might lack a bit of motivation mate...but i could be wrong..

27 May 2017 13:18:42
Plenty of lower standard teams would take him NBTB. However, none of the teams above us would. Which group would you like to be in?

Ed025 and BlueJohnUns I understand where you both are coming from. I agree it is a gamble. It could turn out a terrible end to Rooney's career. Imho it is well worth the risk for Everton. If it doesn't work Everton don't really lose anything. Very little. Same as any other signing not developing into a good signing. So what is the worst that can happen for Everton?

Yes it will be high wages and a space taken up in the squad. He is past hos best, no doubbt. What other disadvantages are there? I can't really see any. On the other hand there are plenty of potential good things that can happen.

Imho it is definitely worth the risk. He comes with a lot of positives in so many ways that I think its very much beneficial for club. Shirt sales, commercial side of things, he still is a high profile player. He will bring media attention to Everton. Something I have no doubt Moshiri will be trying to develop. Also his knowledge and experience at the very top is invaluable. Hopefully he would start a coaching or behind the scenes role also.

These are all before even taking his performances on the field into consideration. He could get a fire in is belly and play out of his skin for Everton. It is possible. Like I said the positives outweigh the negatives for me. I respect anyone's opinion that don't want him as I'm very much aware it could turn out bad.

In direct response to your comments Ed025 and BlueJohnUns. Ed025 if he chooses to come to Everton his motivation cannot be questioned imho. Simply because he could go to China, USA or anywhere for bigger money than Everton.

I believe if he comes to Everton it will be to prove he can still play at the very top. I also believe he yearns to play for Everton. I believe he desires to play for Everton more than anyone else. Motivation enough for me.

BlueJohnUns I hear what your saying in relation to teams that want him. There is a lot in it. Another way of looking at it is no one was interested in Gana last summer. Now supposedly Arsenal want him. Lukaku was let go by Chelsea a couple of years ago now they want him back. Pogba the same with Utd.

Rooney is only 31 but imho that doesn't stand as argument for him to play on. He played like no other which took a lot out of him. Also started at a very young age in a hard position for so long. Not many attacking players play at the very top for more than 16 years. In general sense I believe Rooney's age to be older than 31. He is probably the equivalent to a 33 or 34 year old. I know that goes against me wanting him back but I'm pointing out I'm not oblivious to some of the reasons not to sign him. I understand why people say they don't want him.

For me there are more positives than negatives. NSNO.

Who's r centre back targets and will jagielka Williams and funes Mori go.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think williams will go soph and i expect jags to become a bit part player or move on, our targets have included koulibaly and VVD but they will be very costly and are much sought after by CL teams so i dont hold out much hope there, keane of burnley and mcguire at hull are decent alternatives which we have looked at but who we will get is anyones guess at the moment mate..

26 May 2017 08:59:57
Hi eds wat about Martina from Southampton where does he play because the papers say we got him on a free. He never played much last year.

{Ed001's Note - he is a right back.}

26 May 2017 13:20:36
And not a very good one either Ed01. Reports suggest we are taking him on a free as cover for Coleman. I'm not very sure about him tbh free or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - a lot of Saints fans liked him, but I have never seen enough of him to judge him myself.}

26 May 2017 15:46:57
Koeman was manager of him so must see something in him he likes.

I agree i don't think rooney is not the player we need but him alone is name the player he is an uster be wil attract players i think that's why we r un for him plus is experiance and not a bad sub to bring on when holdin a lead :/.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - hes been a very good player for a long time callum, but now he is past his best and will be blocking a squad place for me, he says he loves the club so we should ask him to sign and play for nothing to prove it and see how that works, he has had his time and been very sucessful so put your feet up wazza and retire gracefully, well thats my view mate..

26 May 2017 09:42:36
I can understand were your coming from but when we have the likes on kone an naisee bk froma loan i'd take rooney back in a heart beat as a squad player its better than what we have plus is playing time will finish with us an get him involved in the coaching an so on Be great for the club don't forget the shirt sales ;)

I can see the point he would be filling a squad space and he isn't long term however I do think a run in the team and the wealth of experience for Europe and we could all be singing his name with tears of joy!
