Interesting few weeks ahead, especially on the goalkeeping front and in terms of managerial decision making. The greatest managers move players on before many spectators see the deterioration. I remember my shock when the great Howard Kendall was sold. I felt he still had plenty to offer. Bob Latchford was the swap. Teams evolve.
Now some players go almost overnight, such as Ivanovich. Now whilst I don't think Howard has gone overnight he has regressed and Martinez has to make the call. It's not easy as you are dealing with people who you probably like as human beings. I've had to release staff myself in the past and didn't enjoy it, but didn't bottle it either. Been on the receiving end too and I had two kids, plus newborn, plus mortgage at the time. Howard has the security of a contract until 2017/18 season I think.
There are a lot of attributes I like about Robles but he needs to show he is not in his comfort zone as a number two. Think the saying is 'carpe diem'. Robles will have seen younger players seize their opportunity. He must see the makings of a decent side being built and should be hungry to be a part of it. He cannot afford to have five or six games to bed in. He needs to make the jersey his own starting with League Cup.
Talking of another decision to be made. I would give Stones the armband whilst Jags is out injured.

For me if Barry is playing I'd put him captain. If not then Stones or McCarthy.

Not only give Stones the armband but controversially I don't see him as a Centre Back but just in front of the back four with Barkley in front of him.
