Swans away League Cup. Plenty of all Prem ties. 5 or 6 Prem teams out already. Hope we take it seriously.

Can't see us taking this competition seriously this season, it has to be bottom of the list in terms of importance. RM will probably use these games to blood one or two youngsters and rest the more important players in the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know Europa offers a place in the champs league but that would be bottom for me we have a genuine chance at winning it

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we take league cup seriously, 6 prem teams out and at least another 5 prem teams will go out in the next round, best opportunity at winning a trophy I reckon.

Has Henen gone home or is the world's longest transfer saga (for an U21 squad player!) still continuing until the deadline?

i know I am being greedy now but I think there is 2 more to come in.could be a long monday night!

Eto'o has retired from international football, everton him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2014 19:01:55
Didn't a certain Landon Donovan say that he was certain that one day he would return to Everton? Did he not recently announce his retirement from the US soccer scene? Would he still not be fit enough to come to us and do a job? Do we not need a certain type of attacking midfielder? Just a few questions that have popped into my empty skull.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't think we really need him now degs I would like to see diame in now and if possible a cb who can play rb either on loan or to buy then our squad will be ready and strong enough for all competitions this season

No mate this is a new era let's move on.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 19:57:04
no thanks, he did a job for us the time he was here, but there is a reason he's retired. Not good enough for MLS generally means not good enough for the Prem!

Agree0 Disagree0

Desgy he retiring all together

oh well ed! at least next Monday won't be stressful I imagine now with the possible exception of Henan that will be us this window mate what are your thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - maybe just a sly little deal on deadline day daz..

27 Aug 2014 20:16:42
the perfect deadlibne day, barring us buying a superstar like messi or ronaldo for me would be a centre back and an exciting forward on loan. the two names that have been apparently linked as available would be Alderwiereld and adama traore. The final addition I would like to see if the aforementioned are not completed would be the free signing of Alex Song. Think these 3 players would be great additions and could not only provide the nunmbers to cope on multiple fronts this season, but will improve the squad significantly to fight for the coverted top 4 places.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me the perfect deadline day next week will keeping all the current squad out of the clutches of the 'bigger' teams as the tabloids would have you believe. We must keep Stones, Jimmy Mac and super Kev.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 18:15:32
So it seems everyone on here are calling Roberto a Liar! He said that's it for transfers, why are you disbelieving him, thought his word was Gospel?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he said that before eto signed howie...so he is a dirty sting liar mate!.. :)

28 Aug 2014 06:03:13
He didn't say that's it. He said he now is happy with the squad and wants to focus internally. That obviously means he is okay if we close without any extras, but wouldn't surprise me if something came up on deadline day he would take a sly deal. Won't be a world beater though, either a loan or a nominal fee

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 16:31:51
So Martines says that's it. I think there be a couple of last minute loans but I was hoping we don't miss out on Henin. I have posted I was hoping we would get Welbeck because I thought he would be a much better player under Martinese than at ManU. But think of this, say we were in the last minute of a game were a goal could win us a last 4 place and the ball came to an everton player with a clear goal scoring chance who would you pick Welbeck or Eto it would be number 5 for me any day.thgfest

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - me too mate..

Welbeck would imo give 100% for us

he still wants England call ups and he

would playing in a side that has (at least as I type this ) a damn site more credibility than MUFC

I normally avoid statements like this >>>

However the Aura that has developed around RM and his squad makes us now truly contenders in all Comps.

We have lost the rugged 4x4 Off roader image >>>

We are now on the threshold of becoming a sleek open topped motor with racy lines and plenty of testosterone under the hood to make anyone eat our dust!

Agree0 Disagree0

Martines never said that was it, he said he was happy with squad. I expect maybe Henin and a possible loan, what position not sure? ssn quote was Eto signs for Everton, with another possible singing before window closes. don't think he will make another singing just for the sake of it, but someone becomes available he likes at the right price or loan then he will try to make it happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - spot on for me that dero mate..

27 Aug 2014 14:38:09
Hi Ed I do think we will do some more business before the end of the window, I am sure there are more players coming in, Roberto is hardly going to say who let's wait and see, c'mon you Blues

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im with you GB..

27 Aug 2014 13:02:06
Ed now that we've signed Eto'o do you see anymore signings this window?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - very possibly CI, but on deadline day mate..

27 Aug 2014 09:50:04
Hi ed, do you think that's it for us re transfers or can we expect any more?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think maybe a sneaky one on deadline day FB, clubs will be looking to offload players who are surplus to requirement, and if bobby sees a bit of value he will go for it mate..

27 Aug 2014 16:17:49
we still have 3 loans left to make, surely we must do it on deadline day, what would we be like if it didnt, apart from a team that is no longer called everloan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haha don't worry mate were get two more haha

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 13:37:02
I hope that micah Richards could resurface as a possibility over the weekend. He's clearly surplus at citeh and would give us cover across the back and up the right.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, toffee, agree, I've been hoping for weeks that we might go for him, reckon he is just what we need, cover for cb and rb and if he's available for 3-4m, would be an absolute steal. Go on Roberto, give us a last-day present!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 17:05:18
Not for me sorry, lad is too injury prone and would be a waste of funds. Got to be better out there

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you spud..

So lets's put an offer in to take him on loan for the season with the option to buy next summer as we did with Gareth Barry?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 13:27:51
bobby confirms tthe spending is complete after signing Eto'o according to radio.

Hmm, a bit frustrated about that. would really like some cover for Seamus and a creative midfielder.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2014 12:50:51
martinez has said this will be are our last player in eto, o hope not we still need cb gk and one more st

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So far we have signed 3 mids 2 strikers and tied down our best players on long contracts. I can't see us signing any more players this window. IMO this has been one of our better transfer windows for a significant time, yes we have signed free agents but we have also broke our transfer record. It looks like we may need to strengthen the defence and the jury is still out on a back up keeper but I think the rest of the squad is looking strong. Both performances this season have seen our fitness levels drop towards the end of the game IMO this is due to a poor peseason hopefully once this is sorted the defence will again be its miserly self. COYB

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's see last day. I feel we will have one. Hope CB. tough and hard tackle.

We defo need one more cb

Lets put all differences to one side and weigh up etoo's arrival.
1. He's experienced in both title winning teams and champions league winning teams so will add some much needed composure in european and important games.
2. His wages have not broke our bank account so is potentially an astute signing
3. He will pass on his wisdom and experiences to the younger strikers in the club. Notably romelu.
4. He is not going to be our first team starting striker, so is fitness really an issue, added to that is his age really an issue, yes he has lost a step of pace, but even with that in mind, will still out sprint most centre backs in the league, added to that his movement will now make up for that loss of pace as all strikers do at the later stages of their careers.
5. He is etoo, a global superstar who will raise our profile as a club.
6. I prefer to see etoo's name on the team sheet for our europa adventure than any other striker who plays or has played for us because he knows where the net is and will keep romelu fresh for the league campaign. Consider the last time we played in europe and had anichebe up front, also we sold anichebe for 6 million. We also bought kone for 6 mill and look what he's contributed to the squad so far. squat!

7. Finally look in the current market what money buys you, particularly as a striker, who we all know hold a higher yield in the market. There's shane long £12mill, sanchez £38 mill, costa £38mill, ulloa £10mill, ballotelli £20mill and riviere for £6mill to name a few. Given our total cost for etoo is going to be £6mill with wages, I'm happy with the addition.

Now we're favourite to sign welbeck

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2014 09:47:03
have a head cold and been laid down for the last 24 hrs

so it looks like we have Eto'o just hope the wage structure is one that fits our club

tbh we need his experience big time this year, the lad or OAP knows how to play up front in Europe

would like to see how many games Eto'o and Lukaku start together and where it leaves Naismith now, he's completely changed my opinion of him the last 12 months.

just need to add a cb/rb and i'll be happy with the team Bobby has built

Alex song available on a free apparently. Are we showing any interest here?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would take him all day on free hopefuly eto, o will tell him to come to everton what squad we have we could challenge for the league if the luck with injuries go are way for once

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 20:34:50
and if we sign alex song he could get on the blower to messi and tell him to come to everton. On a serious note, I don't think we need players to do our talking to barca players as the relationship bobby has there seems pretty strong. On the other hand if song was to join along with etoo already here we could ask them to try to coax adama traore to join which I'd be more than happy with on loan similar to the del boy deal!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 08:33:28
Do you think that will be all are business done.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2014 06:53:55
Would be great to see us end the transfer window with another big sinning such as cerci or welbeck. Would leave us with a more then strong enough squad especially when Kone Barkley and oviedo are all back :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2014 10:29:05
I think we need another striker, but think priority should be an additional centre back. Distan and jags have looked shakey the last 2 games, maybe they will iron out those problems, but in case they don't we need another back up. Stones is great bringing the ball out from the back, but still think he can be a liability with silly errors defensively. The rumour of alderweireld being available on loan would be an astute addition by bobby, alternatively, micah richards would be a player I would seriously enquire about. Versitility being able to play right back as well as centre back draw me to want richards at our club. Lastly bobby surprised us last day of thewindow last year with some quality additions on loan. Hope he plays this market again with a couple more additions.

Greeting Eds from San Antonio, Texas - I am a longtime supporter but this is my first post - want to say that I find the rumors and opinions on this site fascinating - being on the wrong side of the Atlantic I doubt I will be able to contribute to the rumors, and even though I have played or coached football all my life I could not phantom second guessing our manager (who in my humble opinion is a football genius), my question - Henen is it going to happen this window?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - welcome habibka, this was supposed to be sewn up a couple of weeks ago mate, it seems the problem lies in clauses in the contract and the initial fee, it wont affect us just now though as he will only go to the reserves, but it does need sorting..

27 Aug 2014 01:45:37
Just a consideration, would anyone consider any Celtic players to buy now that they are out of CL . I would be interested in any comments from anybody.

As we could strenghten defence, Ambrose could be worth a punt.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 09:11:55
Watched them a lot due to my cousin being a fan. van dijk is the one. and keep an eye on forrest

Agree0 Disagree0

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ambrose was shocking last nite, he just let everyone skip, run and walk passed him,

Agree0 Disagree0

The tall guy Dutch man center back still there?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry. Got my ambrose and van djik mixed up

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 11:35:53
Does van dijk play as the left or right sided centre back. Think he could be a long term replacement for distan if he plays on the left hand side. Although I'd like to think distan could play another year at the end of each season, the time is going to come soon that we will need to replace mr consistant.

Agree0 Disagree0

Van dijk decent but they want 10 mil could got him last year for a milliion i'd rather go for ried at west ham as I don't think jags stones can play together it be like hetinga jags as heitinga played well with distan as he was always to similar to jags

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 12:09:17
Every time I see Anthony Stokes he seems to be impress me but I don't think he would get in the team ahead of Lukaku or Eto'o

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2014 01:41:36
So with the acquisition of E'to and Barry, do you think it would be worth getting Peter Reid and big Dunc out of retirement and doing the Seniors tour instead this year?

As an Everton supporter we should embrace all new players we bring in. I trust Martinez fully. Can you imagine Eto scoring the winner against the red rubbish or even better scoring a hat trick in an fa cup final against the red rubbish. He will then forever be an Everton legend. I personally can't wait to see him in an Everton top banging in goals for fun. Then all the doubters will eat humble pie.

im going for 2.0 win against chelsea, rom will get the 1st eto to come off the bench and get the 2nd, they will both want to prove a point.

Europa League. Had a look at some of the likely opponents. Some tasty teams, some scores to settle eg Villareal, some attractive away days as well as hopefully avoidable trips to the like of Russia and Ukraine.
UEFA seem to use a coefficient system for the draw with seedings based on last few years performances which I think will put qualifiers such as Spurs ahead of us in the seedings. I assume will will be in the second seed pot for the draw.
Look forward to Sid's considered analysis in due course and the full list of teams after this weeks matches.

A little stat to all you eto boers, the last 12 seasons he's played he's scored 10 goals Atleast in all 12 of them, so on a free not so bad, people talk about age but we have sylvan distin at bc for christs sake, Barry cdm although these position require less pace distin is still very quick also eto plays out style and will help us press from the attack when we lose the ball! Have faith!
