24 first team players there, left out players out of contract (garbutt and distin etc). 22 outfield players. 19 regulars (in and out) if ledson, browning and galloway are taken put. Players seemingly always injured like hibbert and pienaar =17. Counting joel that is enough to fill a match day squad. Pienaar is one of the priorities to get fit according to martinez so that's 18 at best (outfield). That isn't enough. The very likely signing of lennon pushes that number to 19. If we get lennon that's another winger, which we need. If browning and galloway are loaned out (possibility according to the red echo) then we are down to 2 centre backs. Martinez said he sees galloway as left back for the next 20 games of his career before moving to centre half. I think we only need one centre back and should keep browning. New right back as competition for hibbert. New striker as naismith isn't a proper number 9 and we are down to only 2 at that. Most teams have 3 or 4. Maybe promote mcaleny finally and buy another. I think a number 10 to supply and support lukaku is also needed, plus another to play as a wingersecond striker /cam (doofy loofy :). Taking all that into account without loaning galloway and browning (including ledson and pienaar) then that is 28 outfield players to cover injuries and suspensions. 30 in total. Not to mention possible outgoings. That would be enough but maybe too much but it is what we need which is why that number imo should be cut (outfield players) to about 25 with hopeful sales of fringe players with any youth players if we get desperate. 25 first team players (unaware of the rules, where is sid when you need him) is a good number to have. Wait, what did I just type?.

Good post Swan. Shows how unbalanced the squad really is, too many central midfielders vying for two places, not enough wingers, forwards or central defenders. Let's hope we have a bit of cash to spend on decent reinforcements this summer

We should start to hear some announcements regarding players being released shortly.
I would take with a large pinch of salt many of the names being banded about, even the Echo must have flagged about a dozen players linked over the last few weeks.
Can't see more than three or four signings at best and can't see RM being entrusted with much money either, given that Bill may have to pay him off before Christmas. That does not mean we still cannot add value and quality to the squad.
I just would like the business to be done quietly and swiftly so any new signings are here for pre season and there is none of this transfer deadline stuff when we are three or four games into the new season.
Finally shocked to hear about Andy King this evening. Everton touched him like many before and since. Even the missus has fond memories from watching him play when she used to go.
Nice tribute Ed007

i never got to see Andy King play but from what my dad has told me he was a good, passionate player and a gentleman. RIP.

I wouldn't get my hopes up over signings coming in early mate. I expect 1 signing maybe 2 before pre season is over and about 20 on deadline day when stones, lukaku and mccarthy go.

I think
Luke Garbutt
Sylvain Distin
Antolin Alcaraz

Are the three being released plus maybe a youngster or 2.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think hes talented dazza, but for me comes with too much baggage mate..

27 May 2015 20:21:50
Must have some talent, he's made a living out of the game. But no not talented enough for me or Everton football club imo. Then again saying that we have got Mcgeady.

{Ed025's Note - we have unfortunately jimmy..

27 May 2015 20:49:55
No, he's a scumbag as bad as his brother, the cigar in someones eyes is probably one of the nicest things he's done. Disgusting human being. Mind you, our fans love duncan ferguson so he'd fit right in.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dont ever compare duncan with barton swan!...dunc is a genuine hard man who can never be seen as cowardly or sly mate..

27 May 2015 21:31:26

I think its pretty sly saying to a man who's wife is dying of cancer and asking him if his wife is dead yet is pretty sly. he's just another thug except a bit taller. May not fit in well with most everton fans but I can't stand him, I didn't like him when he was playing and I can't stand him now he's a coach. Scumbag.

28 May 2015 00:09:48
Yes Its true.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'll back you up on that Swan, it's 100% true and add that wasn't all he said. He's a cardboard hardman who has had a major chip on his shoulder all his life and only ever picked on smaller guys, unless he was full of them drink or mob handed, even team mates at Rangers complained about him and were glad to see the back of him. I've never really understood why Everton fans hold him in such high regard.

Who said that to Ferdinand, Duncan or Barton? I could imagine it from the latter but a bit hard to imagine DF saying something so sick.
Duncan was a better player than he was given credit for by the press but to say he is a legend is off the mark. Especially when you compare him to the great players that have represented our club. He may have done better in a decent team but we, in the main, struggled during his time in the squad. He was one of the hard men of that generation but I wouldn't call him a thug as such, never seen him go all out to try and injure an opponent although I've seen him grab players by the throat! I'm not so sure why the fans took to him the way they did, possibly for scoring in the derby (think it may have been his debut) but didn't do much to justify such a tag.
Really hope it is Barton that Swan is talking about though. And isn't ed007 a Celtic fan? Terribly biased them fans, got a few in the family hahaha

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it was Ferguson, he changed a lot after he moved away from Glasgow, to be fair to him. I think his time in jail had a lot to do with it as well. He became a much nicer person for getting away from the sectarianism that was rife in Glasgow at that time.}

28 May 2015 08:52:53
Swan you wouldn't have a clue about him and don't really have any authority to discuss Duncan as he is before your time.

At the time of Ferguson being with us we had nothing. No Mirallas or Lukaku or even a Jags. We had a poor team and were in massive decline. We needed a hero and someone to have a reason to go to watch Everton and that someone was Dunc. It was never about what Dunc brought on the pitch, it was what he managed to do the men in the stands. That was worth more than a goal from him.

Some people don't get football. It's not just about being 4th best in the EPL or even winning a trophy. It's about being inspired and in the early 90's we had it worse than the new breed of Evertonians these days as we had seen, danced and drank success but then had it ripped away from us.

It's why I get frustrated with people having a go at BK, when he saved the club from extinction. For those that can't see progression in the club then you can't have been alive in the 90's.

You can't put up a news paper article about him as the media hated him as he didn't speak to them. The link you put up ED says a much in it. Everything that was written about him was rumour and the opposition point of view.

As for Big Dunc not being squeaky clean, so what. I'm sure none of you haven't got something you have regretted and again it just confirms you don't understand what he was. He was one of us and loved the club like one of us. He had flaws but what he did do was give us hope when there was nothing to hope for.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the comments were not a rumour, it was said in public. He was like many other young boys, swept along in the sectarian hatred of the times. When he was with Everton, he was mostly behaved, local restauranteurs remember him as generous and friendly with them, their staff and other customers. He grew up, and no longer had those bad influences around him. I have met him a few times and he always came across as a nice enough bloke, willing to sign autographs and chat with people.}

Sorry to all, think I've got wrong end of the stick on this. Not long finished a long shift when I read this! Thought I had seen Ferdinands name in there and that Swan believed Duncan had made that statement to him. My bad.
Agree with BJU, it is impossible for our younger fans to realise how bad things were in them days. To put in perspective, we have finished outside of the top ten just twice in the last decade. The ten years previous, we finished in the top ten twice. Few of them years seen us avoid relegation at the last minute. Bad times. Under PJ, we were near the bottom. Nobody wants to settle for second best but it is probably why the older generation, some of them at least, put up with what we've got under BK

28 May 2015 21:02:43
Dunc actually was a hardman on and off the field but also a gentleman off the field too who always had time for the fans. I always remember coming back from basic training as a 17 year old and seeing the echo in lime street that he had been sold I was mortified. Maybe he wasnt world class but what he brought to us at that time was fight. We were not a fancy side with flair players we were scrappers who won ugly in order to survive. The goals against Liverpool and Leeds kickstarted our season which led us to survival and our last ever trophy. That is why Duncan is held in such high regards by supporters that and the fact he went out and got the club crest tattooed on his arm, no footballer in this day and age can spell loyalty let alone actually abide by it. For me ferguson was the talisman for my generation and will always belong in Everton history for the leadership qualities he brought on the field and also for the work he still does at the club.Barton on the other hand well he is just a racist helmet who thinks quoting philosophy on twitter makes him intelligent. Surely his transfer fees generated should constitute fraud because with so little talent to offer why should clubs actually pay for him!

27 May 2015 16:13:53
So walton hall park has crumbled like kirby and kings dock. What is the reason? Everything was going so well, but, guess what? THERE WAS NO FUNDING. You see, mr robert elstone, you can't have a free lunch, you can't expect someone else to pay for stuff. Why don't you sell one of your islands to help with the funding? No? Course not. How many people are on the board? 4? 5? Surely that isn't enough to make decisions on the club. People can say 'careful what you wish for we might get vincent tan or the venkies type owner'-blah blah blah. Goodison has the worst facilities for away fans in the league and will fail its safety thing. It has what, 15? Maybe 20 years left? Then we have no stadium and will either have to pay to ground share with liverpool or play at tranmeres ground. Both of which cost money and with attendances dropping it means less money. Which means selling our good players which can mean relegation which means loss of tv money which is what we live on. If that goes we as a football club are FINISHED. Not to mention debt. So the reality is, unless bill drops his asking price (200 MILLION POUNDS), gets rid of elstone and completely revamps the people on the board or the least likely, we get investors. The reality is its only a matter of time until we go down due to performances, lack of a stadium or some other sick way. We need fresh ideas, the board (elstone and kenwright included) have failed EVERY idea they have ever had. Where is the planning? Where is the end result?. People can say 'bills a lovely man with the clubs best interests at heart' and all that. But, he needs to do something soon or his 'precious' everton will die. I think its the image he doesn't want to lose, he loves the whole thing of him remorgaging his house 3 times and just keeping us alive and pushing above our weight. But i'd rather he was a bit more ruthless and got things done but he wants this image. I doubt he wants everton any higher as it will expose him for what he is, to put it nicely, a man with HIS best interests at heart. Elstones not much better if at all. You can say 'but bill isn't the only one to blame' no he isnt. he's the OWNER, take decisions to board level, how often do these board meetings take place by the way?. Try and get elstone and the other failires gone and get people in with new ideas and ways to improve the club. So mr kenwright, please, lower your asking price to below half what it is, revamp the board or somehow find someone stupid enough to invest. Our best option imo? Improve goodison to at least look professional. The park end is dead, upgrade it and you can get another 5 thousand seats easily. Of course, like I've said, it won't happen and we will be dead as a football club in 30 years or less.

Villa were put up for sale about 12 weeks ago, the reported asking price, £150.m. Today their owner claims to have had many serious enquiries, from all over the world, so, is Bill kenwright incompetent, or just a liar? In either event, it is time for him to GO.
