I'm as gutted as everyone else tonight, one bad result doesn't make or break our season, we are Everton and us as a club and family will come back better and stronger starting with villa on Sat, COYB!

As Martinez has said we took too much of a risk fielding half fit players 5 or 6 at least and even during the Stevenage match we looked tired, Mirales and Barry were knackered . the truth is our squad depth is zero . once Lukaku went off time and time again we had the ball but there was no one there to send it through to . its just embarrassing and its always them . I also thought the ref gave them everything and nothing to us mind you what's new? Hope we can turn this around before I'm too old to enjoy it :(

Anyone with Rat face in their dream team. shame on you, guess you feel partially better than the rest of us tonite.!

Hi all, That was hard to watch, just one of those games were nothing went right. Was obvious to see the returning injured players Pienaar, Barkley, Jagielka and Alcaraz were not fit. Then we go a goal down from another set piece and our only real striker gets injured and where up against it. I am usually very annoyed when we get beat by Reds but know so much tonight. Worst performance ever seen from Pienaar. All the players looked leggy bar McCarthy and Mirallas. But still convinced we will be be there or there about come the end of the season. Distin and Coleman were badly missed tonight, Distin is the only defender we have who would have caught Suarez for the last goal. So let's draw a line under this and go again. Beat Villa and get all the injured players back and we will be ok. Hope Lukaku is not a long term injury. Coleman, Distin, Deulofeu, and Traore should be all back for the games after the F.A. Cup only have Villa before then. Hopefully Lukaku will be back as well. So chin up boys.COYB

gutted to have lost in that way tonight but we just have to move on. I think we had to gamble with some players not being fully fit and it didn't really work.need a couple of reinforcements now to help us out.
we need a big result against Villa now.
if Lukaku is out we need Kev up front.

Bad news Martinez said the only transfer business will be johnny h out. I really hope it's a smokescreen

posted a lot tonight, but going to end it on this, to all users having a pop at stones, he tried his best to do what coleman does, go up and down, but your forgetting he has played cb for us since day one, in my opinion hibbo was the better option there with stones in the centre, we just need to get back up, personally think this is a kick up the backside to the players, they can't continue playing this poor and not getting battered and tonight that happened, in my opinion mcgeady should have started came on and looked one of the best on our side of the pitch, need a PERMANENT striker in the next few days, and cover at the back, if jonny does go we are in trouble,
thought kev was outstanding once again today and is proving critics from earlier on this season saying he is poor and lazy quite the opposite

Okay, the result was shocking, but the performance wasn't that bad. They sat incredibly deep and played the counter attacking game, something our makeshift, first-time-playing-together defense couldn't cope with. I know most people will find it difficult to find positives, but we weren't overrun and controlled possession, we were just ruthlessly punished at every opportunity while creating none because we had no striker. I got more annoyed at the performance in the West Brom game than at that one. We DEFINITELY need a few more players in the window, though.

Fellow Evertonians.
A couple of things that hit home for me tonight.
1. We lack pace in a number of key areas of the park in particular midfield and out wide.
We have Coleman, Barkley, Mirralas and Lukaku with Pace but we need more energy in centre mid and up front.

2. Tick, tack toe footie is all well and good and keeping possession but there has to come a point where players have to attack and run and use pace to put defenders on back foot. Make them afraid to dive in. I think we are playing to much with back to goal.

3. Defensively had a number done on us tonight. Exposed flat footed. We needed to possibly change formation and even have considered Barry moving to sweeper.
Yes John Stones did look a bit out of his depth but hopefully he will learn. Hibbo should of come on for him but he did make a couple of decent challenges.
In his defence when he was passed the ball out wide, there were a number of times when he just wasn't given options. We just looked so slow going forward.

4. a lot to ask of Ross B tonight. He did okay but does need to pick his head up and drag defenders out toward him. This is where we need pace on flanks. Stevie P looks slow and is clearly getting frustrated with his own game.

5. Poor old Nasie came on. He ran his guts out but what do we do? Pump long balls at him.
We are great in 2/3rd of park but our final play to actually get balls in to box where it hurts is poor. We need to get in behind teams more and get people in box.

6. Our worst display of season and it had to be tonight of all nights.
I was surprised the commentators on BT sport didn't give mom to Stevie G because I thought they were going to . in their pants every time he touched the ball. He should have been booked but Martin Atkinson let them get away with murder at times.

7 In summary
Put it behind us. Move on. Bill get cheque book out this week and sign us a pacey striker, dynamique all action midfielder and a pacey centre half. If we are to have any chance of hanging on to top four this has to be done.
Barry and Mccarthy exposed by pace tonight.
More cut and thrust needed please.

Lots of lessons to be learned and the sooner the better.

We sti
l believe in you Roberto but please react and get a bit of zest and pace into team.

Would just like to say I admired the way u played even though u were 4-0 down, most teams would have totally given up. Read a few posts on here saying u would have won without all your injuries, would just like to point out that agger sakho Johnson Enrique (our entire first choice defence is injured)
Along with Lucas & Allan our only Defensive midfielders.
No point making up excuses, u were out classed.
Really enjoying having two good teams on mersyside finally! Here's to hoping we can see a match like that in the champions league finals in years to come!

28 Jan 2014 23:26:07
i would also like to point out that a number of fans want agger, johnson and enrique gone, not so first choice now eh?, lucas and allen are woeful, youse won, well done, now tip toe back to your own site

Only positive I can grasp from this evenings shambles is we still have 3 days left of the window. Another striker and cover for Coleman desperately required. Stones has bags of potential but needs another year out on loan before he's ready to step up to this level.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree not a good night for stones one thing for sure he is def not a right back team was poor tonight as a hole except one or two swan get real sell Barkley for twenty five mil wot a load of crap some comments on here r terrible we still havin great season get Coleman delboy distin and hopefully another signing and we will b flyin again we r still right in it

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:37:07
i think its obvious, drifting away from the result, its obvious we have no quality in depth, i'm going go get burned for this, I heard united were going to offer 50m for barkley, if we got even half that I would bite their hand off, we should sell in the summer to whoever wants him and buy a good all round quality squad rather than hope we don't get injuries, he doesn't do enough, buy someone better

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep let's sell the best young player in the country and buy three or for average players. Brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 23:36:20
the best young player in the country? wow, he has a lot of work to do to even be considered in the same breath as hazard, oscar and even english players like luke shaw

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats unfair swan...thrown in at the deep end when not match fit..get a grip mate..

Get rid of barkley! you mad more like get rid of naismith! our only option as a striker tonight. We looked like a team 3 div below and as an everton fan for 34 yrs we were shown a masterclass in counterattacking football very poor!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't be a mug. For one Hazard and Oscar are not British, and he is head and shoulders above Shaw. Suppose you thought Rooney was rubbish too.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2014 00:23:52
even when he's been fit early on in the season mate, all he wants to do is shoot, he doesn't care if we win or lose, as long as he gets a goal who cares?, a few good games and he is the best talent in english football, see this is the problem with youngsters ed, so many will fail due to unfair pressure, like ryan gauld, as talented as he is people are claiming him THE best talent in world football, how unfair is that on a lad only just turned 18?, barkley is being wrongly overhyped imo, not just todays performance but overall, he is too greedy and will not change the game or tear teams apart like hazard can do, he will do better than vaughen and rodwell but after a few games to put all these tags on him isn't right, he isn't THAT good, he will become a good attacking midfielder, not world class, just think people should stop comparing teenagers to already great players, he did a flick once and danny murphy went 'that reminded me of wayne rooney', well why? why not just say it was a nice flick? too much hype on english talents when they are not all that talented imo

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - for me he is a very good player mike, you say he shoots too often, but if he never shot, how were we ever going to score? As no one on our front line seems to know where the net is!..

28 Jan 2014 22:35:13
Come on lads, massively dissapointing as tonight's result was, slagging off players isn't our way! Especially young talented ones. Yes Stones was at fault for the goal and looked out of sorts but he's a youngster and one for the future. In an ideal world he wouldn't have played tonight. But we're so short of numbers so needs must. We were all raving about him a few weeks ago. Take a step back. Take a deep breath. before making rash comments and if those two things don't work give your heads a wobble! ETID

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spot on there Stu. Its a bad result granted (REALLY BAD) but we've got to move on to the next one. We're spread thin as it is, but complaining about it won't fix anything. We're a signing away from a cracking team when everyone is back. Heads up now Blues! COYB

The battle was lost, the war is not over. But too many casualties again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 22:25:46
why o why. Martinez should have geared the team up. Didn't get a look in. just didn't show up again.
The same when we played Brum, And Palace.
So much for the big I am. Naysmith should have started the game. And been replaced start of 2nd half by Lukaku. be lucky to finish in top 10.
Really Dissapointed in that non Performance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm as disappointed as anyone but really mate? We had half our first team injured and half of the first 11 only just about fit. We played awful and it's disappointing but players are coming back, we have still only lost 3 premier league games this season and are only 4 points off 4th place. Keep your chin up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Classic case of knee jerking. Be lucky to finish top 10? Grow up, that's pathetic. It's 3 points at the end of the day whether it was 1-0, 4-0 or 24-0. Poor performance granted but let's not go overboard, it's embarrassing.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:25:15
Gutted with tonights result and will no doubt get a load of grief from my glory hunting red mates.
Still 4 or 5 top players needed for us but I can't see that happening with our bank balance.
Onwards though. We may have lost against the redrubbish but we can still finish above them.
Coyb

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So we're rubbish but we just beat you 4 nil? Seriously the bitterness at times is just hilarious! LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 23:24:27
and I presume you were at the match mate? nope in your armchair again, the laziness at times is just hilarious! LOL!

Agree0 Disagree0

You could have won 10-0 but I'd still be smiling and thanking The Lord because, thankfully, I'm an Evertonian and not a RS! Classless, deluded people. Offended by everything, ashamed of nothing!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:22:00
As with everyone am extremely disappointed
We are not as bad as that tonight but it just had to be against that shower that we have are worse game off season, apparently booby has plans to use his war chest (if any) in summer or is that cause we get are big sky money for the summer?
Unfortunately bill we need that money now if you want us in Europe, let's not end up as also ran's for once!

Defence a complete joke

Referee gives every single foul to them and nothing to us!

Jags is going to get skinned in the World Cup if he plays like this

Stones back to nursery club - he thinks he can attack like Coleman but he can't get past his man - so may as well stay at right back

Disaster basically

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 21:31:21
I hope this performance is just a blip tonight but we have now got 2 days 2 bring a least 2 players we look very tired

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 21:23:59
Normal service has been resumed.
Everton bottling it in the big games.
A Martinez team defending badly.
Champions League qualification? You're having a laugh. Not a chance this season or any season.
We've ridden our luck defensively in so many matches this season, but tonight we've been punished for our inadequacies.
Mid table mediocrity is all that lies ahead.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 22:15:25
John stones was abysmal tonight, on bug occasions like tonight we need someone who is solid defensively, stones isn't a seamus Coleman so what is he doing playing as a wing back, thought the ref was utter garbage tonight, the amount of dives he didn't spot were too many to count on one hand.
Tim Howard-5 came out of his box too much and could have saved Suarez's Goal
Stones-4 with performances like that its hard to think he's 'the future of England's defense'
Jags-6 some good tackles but his age and lack of pace are catching up with him
Alcaraz-4 Awful defensively, we definitely missed distin at the back today
Baines-6 Generally good all round game, one of the few who didn't play badly
McCarthy-6 Tired himself out running after the ball but doesn't look a player worth 13m at the moment
Barry-5 complete lack of pace tonight, struggled to keep up with the tempo of the game
Mirallas-8 was at the centre of all our opportunities and was unlucky not to score
Barkley-6 decent performance but takes too long to pass the ball
Pienaar-5 lacked that creative spark and lacked the pace to keep up with the rest of our attacking quartet
Lukaku- couldn't rate him but we did lack his strength on the ball this evening
Naismith-4 Silent the whole game and wasn't up to much when he did get the ball
Osman-5 some good touches but again lacks the pace
Mcgeady- again couldn't rate him but imo should have started
Onwards and upwards!
COYB!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Howard-3 came out too much
Stones-2 generally awful
Jagielka- 5 ok I guess
Alcaraz- 2 too slow & poor all round
Baines- 6 decent not much he could do
Mcarthy- 4 should of saved 1st one and was generally poor
Barry- 4 same as mcarthy
Mirallas- 8 great game from him
Barkley- 5 needs to pass instead of 30 yard potshots
Piennar- 4 looked off the pace
Naismith-2 absymal did nothing
Osman- 6 looked lively when he first came on was involved in our better play

Agree0 Disagree0

Take one off all of them I reckon other than Osman thought he was ok

Agree0 Disagree0

Brilliant we have a bad night and all of a sudden there all rubbish. Get over it and move on, the team deserve better than that. And as for McCarthy, it was only last week You were all saying what a bargain he was. Now everyone's an expert.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 23:33:38
Twoold did you watch the game mate we were crap in defence and I was saying that McCarthy didn't look like a 13m player based on this game

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:14:33
Not just saying this because we got beat but kenwright needs to realise that we need to buy. We only have mcgeady off the bench who could create something, defence wasnt upto standard and they was up for it more than us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 22:13:04
Actually the rest of the team apart from jags and stones and maybe Alcatraz played ok and looked quite good - obviously we have no centre forward really once lukaku is off - but everyone else looked busy and tried hard

3 very bad minutes of defenders being completely crap made the score a disaster but overall we weren't too bad - just terrible in defence - stones will learn a big lesson from this - the third goal Sturridge chip was just a bit lucky really but sealed the game

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more Latch, others could well to listen.

Agree0 Disagree0

R u serious! we had a good game sorry hell fcking no THAT WAS EMMBARASSING

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:10:52
Tonight showed two things, we at the moment can't cope with teams who park the bus and play on the counter, and can we have a fair playing field where both teams can tackle the same.

Ah, dust ourselves down and move on.

What's our name!!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 22:08:02
Lets not jump on john stones back here okay lads, he's a 19 year old kid whos debut for everton who are playing liverpool there derby match AWAY. yes hand in the air he was responsible for there second goal I think? but if you watched carefully he made countless runs down the wing into space which where not registered by others on the pitch! stones got no help out there he doesn't deserve to be the scapegoat for this loss. this was a team performance. and the team shall be responsible

Heads up we have seen worse times than this at everton

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was awful but ill forgive him by Saturday

Agree0 Disagree0

Y play him in a derby should have played hibbert

Agree0 Disagree0

If we win.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:05:04
We will still be higher in the league . get the players fit and go again, Traore important now

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Seriously we need a sturridge type striker or were screwed let's not forget lukaku is not scoring a load of goals liverpool r only doing well because of suarez and sturridge

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:03:20
So frustating to watch, when are we going to match their desire?.Total joke of a performance, embarrassing to say the least.I just hope the players can recover from this and it ruin our season.Time to get the chequebook out Bill!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 22:02:52
nothing positive to take from that game, john alderidge on the radio was annoying me, every sideways pass they made he was going 'oooh what a ball', alcaraz was demolished, stones and jagielka should be ashamed, this was a game barry and mccarthy should of grabbed by the scruff of the neck but instead we got THAT, we were lucky to get away with just 4-0, martinez will take positives somehow, somehow it seems like the season is about to start crashing down and this is the beginning, win it for oviedo! the players should be ashamed by that, simply not good enough and this is why we will never get in the champions league, we are not good enough in big games

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They had better strikers and played to there strengths. Don't think Alcaraz was fit and Stones is a kid. Get over it.

Agree0 Disagree0

With no cash we can't compete simple as. A few injuries and game over. Same old same old. Boring repetative story. yaaawwwnnn!

Agree0 Disagree0

Get over it! as a suporter for all my life i want to see us have a go and challange especially against pool. i have never felt so ashamed! ever this is a tam that is ment to be competative well am sry but i did not see that today at all. i expect more!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 22:02:38
Come on blues terrible game fair enough but it's 3 points not the end of the world so onwards and upwards missed Coleman & distan tonight think jags had a terrible game stones out of his depth but get back to winning ways against villa COYB ETID

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 22:02:09
Mirrillas and mccarthy only people that stood out and didn't bottle it today, but i'm not one to turn on our players. True evertonians just need to look at our injury list. yes it is always going to be horrible losing to those red rubbishs. But look at there goals? long ball counter attacking football? where was the passing and class that they constantly shove down our necks. COYBs we need to get behind the team. top 4 is a dream now. but we need to buy with lukaku facing a ankle ligerment injury very likely then currently we have naismith. and traore who is injured

Stay strong and respect to the fans who was singing right to the end

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 21:51:38
only positive mirallas was brilliant pity bout r defence sunday league comes to mind

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 21:48:08
McGeady was without doubt no arguements the best player on the pitch for everton. A positive but potentially a big negative if that is the best we have to offer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't know which game you were watching but Mirallas was clearly our best player tonight. And although Stones was woeful tonight, to call him a disgrace and say get rid is just pathetic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eh, did you watch the same game as me? Thought Mirallas was by FAR our best player, didn't stop working all night.

As for Stones, he's 19 ffs, thrown in at the deep end and was badly exposed but Jags didn't particularly help him out too much.

Playing a high line without Distin against that pace was always a bad game plan but the defending in general was schoolboy standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mirallas was the best mcgeady didn't do anything

Agree0 Disagree0

What? .

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 21:28:24
I include Brett Angel in this, I have never, never seen a worse performance in a blue shirt than John Stones tonight. Only young so we might get some resale value. Get rid. A disgrace.
Ultimately no matter which manager, which players, what situation, the away derby is the single worst night of every year I live.
Pathetic
Not even close to top 6 standard we are deluded. And a scar on our name

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ye whatever Svenny do u only sing when were winning were all embarrassed by that result but deluded we are not you need to calm down and have faith we will bounce back.Coyb

oh my golly am I dreamin just saw gerard score against us again stones and alcaraz have been woeful maybe they'll start defending and were was howard going for the third goal thought he was collecting a pint from the bar please ref blow it up now don't need a second half dread dread dread

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2014 21:56:55
Right, personally I think that the scoreline slightly flatters Liverpool although we didn't play well in the opening 30 minutes or even the first half I thought that for most parts we dominated the second half but just wasn't able to get that goal. Liverpool's fourth goal was completely against the run of play ( I believe it was either there first or second touch in the second half ), very disappointed with the result but onwards and upwards after that performance we have nothing to be ashamed of COYB. + Did anybody else think that Merson was watching a different game in the second half some of his commentating was dreadful

CIBlue

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Didn't flatter them at all, they battered us all night long!.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well i'm afraid letting jelavic go before we had a fit sub striker is a big big mistake because naismith lacks power and pace

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul what game where you watching? I'm usually not one to go of statistics but we dominated them in possession in there half and they where parking the bus for most of the second half even when they where 4-0 up we matched them on shots overall I thought it was a good performance just a poor result withsome lapses in concentration

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2014 21:56:30
Mirallas only one who wasn't abysmal. Pathetic not looking forward to going in tomorrow

nothing but the best is our motto, non of those players deserve that shirt playing like that, we have bottled it at anfield yet again, so much for us having no inferiority complex, get alcaraz off, times like these you want to find a corner and just sit there away from it all, haven't been in tears like this since the semi final, we just are not good enough

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im afraid this is a reality check of the most horrible kind tut tut tut

martin atkinson

I believe it's Martin Atkinson. Let's hope he's strong enough to give an immediate penalty the first time Skrtel makes a grab on one of our shirts and that Suarez is booked (and the hopefully sent off ) if he starts trying to cheat by diving.
We might be "bitters" in their eyes but at least we're not "biters".
COYB a 1-0 win would do me (but obviously a heavier score could do much to boost our goal difference).
In Roberto we trust.

Howard
Stones Heitinga Jagielka Baines
McCarthy Barry
Mirallas Naismith Osman
Lukaku

Robles
Coleman
Hibbert
Garbett
McGeady
Traore
Vellios

Possible starting lineup with our injuries. Maybe Hibbert instead of Heitinga with Stones coming into CB. Still strong enough to take 3 point I think. COYB

Everton are pleased to confirm that surgery on Bryan Oviedo's fractured left leg was successful and he is now in a comfortable and stable condition in hospital.

Oviedo fractured both his tibia and fibula during Saturday's FA Cup fourth round victory at Stevenage.

He had an operation on Monday evening and Everton's Head of Medical Services, Danny Donachie, says the first stage in the Costa Rican's period of rehabilitation had a positive outcome.

Donachie told evertonfc.com: "Bryan's surgery was a big success and he is in a comfortable and stable condition.

"He fractured his tibia and his fibula and they were displaced, so we weren't able to put them back into place until Monday. He had surgery last night when a rod was put through his tibia, which means he will come back stronger than before.

"It was a clean break and that means that there are no pieces of bone. Sometimes when there are small fragments of bone in the area, it can be difficult to deal with. But these are clean breaks, so they will put the bones back into position and it will heal well from there.

"We will be working hard to get him back as quickly as we can."

really thin tonight, jags, distin, coleman, barkley, delboy, traore, pienaar, alcaraz, all doubts, if they are out it would be stones and jonny at the back, they will score and we must take our chances

Jags, barkley and distan havin pain killing injections to play. Pienaar fit, almost a full strength team now. howard, stones, jags, distan, baines, mccarthy, barry, mcgeady, barkley, pienaar, lukaku. Strong team and can cause problems against their woeful defense. Expect us to win the midfield battle where the derby is usually won or lost. Coybb.

You would drop Mirallas for Pienaar or McGeady?

After the derby, we'll have 15 matches remaining:
8 at home (in alphabetical not date order) - Arsenal, Aston Villa, Cardiff, Crystal Palace, Man City, Man Utd, Swansea, and West Ham. That's 3 against teams competing for European places and 4 against teams that are (or could be) scrapping for their lives in the relegation dogfight. We'll have to be playing really well to take every point.
7 are away - Chelsea, Fulham, Hull, Newcastle, Southampton, Sunderland, and Tottenham Hotspur. That's 3 against teams that are (or could be) competing for European places, 1 (Southampton) who are comfortably mid-table, and 3 against teams that are (or could be) in the relegation dogfight. Perhaps we'll have better chances to pick up points in these away fixtures.

How many points do you think we'll get from these 15 fixtures?

Whatever results the other contenders get in their remaining fixtures against other clubs is outside our control. We have to concentrate on our own performances and results and not speculate or worry about what other clubs do. The only sure thing is that when two contenders play each other then only one can get 3 points - or each can get 1 point. On those occasions, it's obvious that we must get points (hopefully 3 every match) in our own matches.
It's going to be mighty challenging for us to get enough points to get into the top four, especially as (prior to the derby) we're a point behind in sixth place - and, although we're not losing games, we're failing to turn draws into wins. Drawing 3 games might keep an unbeaten sequence going, but points-wise it's the same as winning 1 and losing 2. (My personal preference is to stay unbeaten, so I'm not complaining - just stating an obvious point.)
When we finished 4th in 2005, we lost 13 matches (!), but won 18 and only drew 7. However, I doubt that the 61 points we amassed that season would be good enough for 4th place this season ;-)

While the changes to the first-team squad this transfer window have been basically mid-season tinkering as certain opportunities arose to move certain players in/out - and there might be more in/out activity at Everton before the window closes - I think that the summer transfer window will be more telling.
Which of our ageing players might be moved on?
Which of our loans will be given permanent deals?
Which of our "fringe" squad players might be moved on?
Which of our U-21 players currently out on loan will be retained by us?
Which of our other young (U-21 and U-18) players will be retained?
What domestic loans might we have for next season?
What foreign loans (especially young talent) might we have for next season?
How much money will we have for permanent deals - especially if we go all out for Lukaku?
It will be RM's third transfer window at Everton and he'll have had an entire season to properly evaluate all the playing staff and he'll also know if we'll need a squad to contend with European matches next season.
It's generally accepted that there shouldn't be too big a turnover in players at one time, but, if we do, then doing lots of business early should give RM a full pre-season get the team/squad working - albeit that the World Cup might affect transfer timings.
But, hey - what do I know about football management? I'm just happy that we have Roberto Martinez to make those football decisions :-)
It's only just over halfway through the season - and early days in RM's work-in-progress - but have all of those doubters back in the summer revised their negative opinions?
He's the right one, he's the bright one, he's Martinez!

To all the hardcore evertonians why on earth do we do this every transfer window. We get all excited about the suspense and announcements and the fake shieks who wanna buy us. Riqulme even though he's been dead for the last ten year etc etc. Its crazy is there only evertonians who are on this site? Any way its great to have a site like this where all the dreams come and go and at 12 bells every transfer deadline night we are all slating Bill K. I love it i'd love it if we do them tonight.
