In connection to the other post about the new grass, who actually wants grass? I mean, what do you (Ed and whoever else reads this post) prefer, grass or AstroTurf? (Ps. this isn't a serious question. Most OFAH fans will get it) {Ed007's Note - I can't say, I've never smoke astroturf.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have Ed but my J set alight, I found it really hard to toke whilst it was burning my face. Grass all the way for me :)

I have heard a rumour about Philipp Hosiner. Look up his goals on youtube. Very strong goalscorer. I know its the Austrian league but he has a great ratio and against teams like Salzburg, Austria Vienna and the likes. Would be a great addition. Have we ever had 4 or 5 center forwards before?
Degsypulford {Ed007's Note - Cracking player Degsy, he has been linked to Celtic all summer but I think we would struggle to get him over an EPL team.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's on tv now. Although the player says he will wait until after a very important play off game before deciding his future. I think he is the type of level headed natural goalscorer we need. Good with both feet and his head and goal ratio of almost 1 per game. Incredible these days. Figures of 4.5 million being quoted.

Is the Juventus match on Wednesday USA time? And can I watch the match another time if I buy it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Saying on wiziwig site it starts at 8pm are time mate

Agree0 Disagree0

If you buy it from Everton tv you can watch it whenever.

Agree0 Disagree0

2000 hrs on ETV mate but as the last lad said you can just re watch it if 2000 is past your bed time ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

So there playing at midday local time, I doubt it

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2013 19:57:23
I guess that the omission of Magaye Gueye and Francisco Junior from the squad for the USA tour means they've already been determined by the new management/coaching staff to be not up to scratch. If so, who thinks they'll be transferred out or sent on loan? More surprising is the omission of Antolin Alcaraz - can anyone explain that? The omission of those younger players - like Grant - who've had some promising pre-season game time isn't too surprising They've already done enough to at least have been offered professional contracts, so they can still develop and impress in due course. That includes McAleny who's getting a chance on loan at Brentford - although I note that previous loanees, Forshaw and Bidwell, eventually signed full time there.

Didn't put my name on the OP - my bad. :-)

Everton Rumours Fantasy League
--------------------------------
Going to try and make these posts more often to give more people a chance to join the league.
On the Premier League fantasy league website, I have set up an Everton Rumours Fantasy League as I did last season.
A lot of people will be in it automatically I believe, because they were in the league last season, so all they'd have to do is log in and make their team. However I'm not 100% sure on this, so best double-check if you were in the league last year.
Anyway here is the all-important league code required to join the league:
196161-54136

Good Luck to anyone joining the league!

So if our squad is the same at the end of the transfer window, who would you star with? Not entirely sure on what formation Martinez will be playing, 4-2-3-1? If so, this would be my starting XI & 7 subs, again feel free to post what yours would be:

Howard
Coleman Distin Jagielka Baines
Gibson Fellaini
Deulofeu Barkley Mirallas
Jelavic

SUBS: Joel, Alcaraz, Heitinga/Hibbert/Duffy, Osman, Pienaar, Kone, Vellios

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
Felliani Gibson
Mirallas Piennar Delefou
Jelavic

Joel Hibbert Alcaraz Oviedo Osman Barkley Kone

Agree0 Disagree0

I gurantee he won't start with deulofeu or barkley

Agree0 Disagree0

Oviedo for vellios imo

Agree0 Disagree0

That looks remarkably like a Moyes team with the exception of Deulofeu who has only just signed anyway.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

He will start with defelou otherwise we won't get another loan from barca ever again he hasn't come to sit on the bench

Alcaraz will start but won't last long in the starting line up, he is a poor player!

This would be my ideal squad as I think the first 11 is good enough to give anyone a game
GK:Howard Joel
RB:Coleman Hibbert
CB:Jagielka Distin Alderwied Alcaraz
LB:Baines Oviedo
DM:Felliani Gibson McCarthy
AM:Piennar Osman Barkley
R/LW:Mirallas Delefou Moses
ST:Jelavic Kone Hosiner

Loans out: Stones Duffy Garbutt Ludstrum Vellios

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think stones will be involved this season he is not far away we have to remember we have jags distin alcaraz stones heitinga who may leave distin is good but its another long season it's bound to take it out of him he is getting older so stones will be playing a lot more

Agree0 Disagree0

Small matter of the 30-40 million quid you would need. Pointless post.

Howard, Coleman, Jags, Distin, Baines, Fellaini, McCarthy, Michu, Mirallas, Pienaar/Deulofeu, Kone/Jelavic

More of an ideal team rather than possible team as Michu would be very costly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No to Michu

Agree0 Disagree0

You're dropping Gibson whose been our best player in pre-season good call

Agree0 Disagree0

So would McCarthy at 15 million

Swansea won't sell michu, never happening

Your posting a possible starting 11 with two players we don't even have who will cost 25-30m, haha

Can anyone or even you ed shed any light on to why moyes was reluctant to enter our young lads into this next generation league {Ed025's Note - i dont know jimbo..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He thought we weren't ready.
But he did say before he left that he was considering it this season.
My take on it is that he didn't want over exposure of our young players in case teams came in to buy them.
The majority of the teams in it are high profile and there are scouts from all over the world watching it regularly.
Bobby Marteenez obviously sees it as a development process.

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon it could be due to the fact that Moyes always had a small squad and so didn't want the u21's/reserves going off and playing in a big tournament in case he needed to call any up to the first team because of injuries. But now Roberto's building a bigger squad, he probably doesn't see it as too much of a problem.

That's what I reckon.

Murf

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe because Roberto is a more progressive manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

So what your saying is moyes didn't want to develop youngsters because they would be too good and sold,, he just has no faith in youth and seemed to fall out with all of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2013 11:58:06
I see from all the recent comments that people are a lot happier now we have beaten the "giants" of Blackburn Rovers. This new manager says all the right stuff, unlike the previous one who was so negative. Under the previous one we had a keeper who booted the ball out of defense and a centre forward who was not allowed in the 6 yard box. All is roses and chocolate now.
I don't wish to be a knocker before a ball is even kicked in anger, but let's see how we do when the real games start. Likewise, I see Manchester United have lost a couple. let's see how they do when the real games start. I suspect they will do ok.
I wish Roberto all the success I can, but I also know all you guys slagging Moyes off and talking up Roberto will be singing off a different Hymn Sheet if we lose a few games.
There is nothing more fickle than football supporters!
Degsypulford

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm sure we will lose games and I'm sure fans will at times be critical of the manager and his tactics. Fans pay their money and have aright to air their views. Your reaction to the win at Blackburn is extremely dismissive, for me it is more about the way we play the game. If we play the game right the results will follow as will the accolades, our reputation and our standing in the game. The REAL games will obviously be more difficult but WE need to take them one at a time. We now have a manager who, unlike the previous post holder, isn't scared of going to Old Trafford so maybe he will install a new confidence along with a new method of play.

Popeye

Agree0 Disagree0

Edgy just enjoy it mate. It's just nice to see them playing football again mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the last 2 seasons we have played our best football in the last 15 years so I would not say moyes played negative football it's more balanced look at the exciting football Newcastle played under keegan they would concede a lot of goals, I am all for playing attacking football but you have to defend this is how I see it Martinez will have us passing more and interchanging attack play and as a result I do think we will score more goals but I do think we will concede more so the ratio difference will be where we finish will it see us turn those draws into wins or losses moyes had 4th best defence in league

Agree0 Disagree0

I just think you and a few others have been knocking Mr Moyes, when he actually turned the club around. As for him being scared of going to Old Trafford, I think of the hammerings we used to have against top 4 teams. eg 7-1 v Arsenal in his early days and a few stuffings by Utd. Last season no body hammered us. We gave everyone a game. Like you, I don't know how Roberto will do. But I do know that if we get a couple of defeats early on, he will start to lose all these "flowers and chocolates" supporters.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on popeye.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hiya!, Yep, we played some terrific football at times last season, dare I say it the best since the mid 1980's, but I always felt Moyes would pull the "reigns" on if we started to play too much, I sense Martinez will embrace this and hopefully our boys will flourish, looking forward to seeing Ossie, I can't see Martinez flogging him like a dead horse on the right wing!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ye supporters are fickle but if you can't appreciate good football then don't bother watching any, poeple are happy that we played well and jelavic looked good. lighten up instead of trying to find a negative before you have any substance

MikedeBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

I noticed a big difference yesterday. forward movement without being worried about someone covering you. Bit more adventurous.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's safe to say that Degsypulford was and still is a massive Moyes supporter.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes Degsypulford was a big Moyes supporter and he will also be a big Martinez supporter. whatever the progress we make. The club always moves on. But I do remember dark days very well. As I am sure some other supporters my age do. In my opinion Moyes did a grand job when others were turning us down. (Andy Gray even!). It does annoy me when people knock him. There is a lot of cr*p being banded around about him. I say "good luck Mr Moyes I hope you are very successful. "
I just hope we will be even more successful.
Come on you Blues!
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

Degsy, completley agreed mate. let's see where its at at the halfway point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok we weren't getting hammered but we were barely drawing and definitely not winning at chelsea, lpool or man utd, i'd rather lose 4nil and have a chance of winning than 1nil I have 1 shot all match we still end up with same points

Is there any proof in these apparent bids for James McCarthy ed? I'd love him at Everton, would be vital especially if Gibson got injured {Ed025's Note - they want more that we are willing to pay, £13.5m is a lot of dosh for us to lay out, he is a very good player, but for me there are players of similar ability for a lot less money mate..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I see, personally I think he would be worth the outlay. Do you think he will be at Everton by the end of the transfer window? And if so do you think he would only be as a replacement for Fellaini or do you think we want him regardless of player sales?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2013 11:37:17
It's been quite a while since I've been optimistic about a new season, even in recent years when our first 11 has been the best for over a decade I have worried about our depth, injuries, suspensions etc. I think a lot of my optimism has to be down to Martinez and specifically the positivity and enthusiasm he exudes during interviews.

Martinez is genuinely exited about the club, the youth system, the history and in his own words the 'human element' of the team. Established players look happier, youth players who have been given an opportunity look ecstatic and the whole team seem to have had a weight lifted off their shoulders.

I'm not going to go down the route of criticising the previous management team. I have my views, which are less and less complimentary as more snippets of news come out and more interviews are given.

I must say however that I prefer I manager who says WE when talking about the team and club and doesn't just say 'Everton' and talk about us in the third person. I prefer a manager who is a 'glass is half full' rather than 'half empty' type of person. AND I prefer a manager who is willing to use the promising youth players that we consistently produce instead of letting them fester in the youth team, release them and buy them back years later (provided we can afford them).

Popeye {Ed025's Note - good post that popeye, i think most of us feel the same way mate..

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2013 01:15:05
If we are going to make a big signing, I would love it to be Michu. He would link the midfield with the attack wonderfully. He has great technique, good passer, very creative and is also a good goal scorer. He would fit in well with Martinez's style of play. Michu and Alderwield would be fantastic acquisitions. Another striker, possibly on loan would be beneficial so we could loan out Vellios.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2013 00:47:56
Have to say that watching us today Oviedo looked really well, of course it would be a blow to lose Baines but we still have the capability to do well without him! Jela was a different man and it was good to see the keeper looking for a pass rather hoofing it forward. I'm unsure whether we will add to the squad before the season starts I think we have enough depth but could maybe do with a CM. feeling optimistic about next season blues!
