I cannot understand on the Everton poll that there would be some opposition to Enner Valencia. Good honest hard working player, young and a good eye for goal and pacey to boot. He is a perfect player that would suit the Everton style of play. Also as I missed out he is very technically proficient and would be in our price range (somewhere around the 10m mark. I would be interested what you have to say eds.

why does every player seem to suit our style of play? and had anyone honestly heard of him before the world cup, yes he's doing well but is in the same boat as dzagoev at the euros, has a good run and that's it he's done nothing since, around 10m for a 25 year old from the mexican league who has had a good 3 matches seems quite strange in all honesty, i'd rather have a cup of tea

I agree with Swan in a way. He's been good in the World Cup but was supposedly nothing special beforehand.
For £10 million, no thanks. He's not the 20 goal a season striker we need. He might be a good addition as cover ahead of Kone, he's worth only £5 million at most.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't say I am an expert on him, but he did score 18 in 23 games last season. Prob a crap league admittedly.

time to get the cheque book out,
need to hit the pitch running,
need 7/8 new players, bought or loan.
A good start to the season is a must.
So if your blue get into'um.
and sign the right players in the Everton tradition of class & quality.

I know it's just a figure of speech to say "get the chequebook out", but the idea that a club pays a transfer fee (or any expenditure) by using a chequebook seems very quaint in this day and age.
Another thought: do professional footballers (especially Premier League ones) actually receive their money every week - or monthly (like most salaried employees these days)? I also imagine that certain bonuses are paid at the end of season or at the end of the contract year (30th June?).
Perhaps one of the well-informed Eds can shed some light on this. :-)

{Ed003's Note - players get paid monthly and I'd imagine certain bonuses are paid at the pre-agreed date.}

I think its absolutely amazing how no one has signed Gary Medel yet. He's way too good to be playing in the Championship and would be an absolute bargain if a team had to pay the £11 million Cardiff payed for him.
In my opinion, we should forget about Barry and go all out for Medel. He's younger, wouldn't demand as big wages as Barry and can cover at centre back, which he has been doing brilliantly for Chile.

{Ed025's Note - im a big fan as well NSNO, someone will get a great player there, i would love it to be us mate..

Haha me nil satis nisi optimum on same wave lenght haha both posted about him haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Great minds think alike bretto haha, would love to see him in an Everton jersey next season. Himself and McCarthey would be a top class midfield, potentially one of the best in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great minds do think alike. But remember fools seldom differ!

{Ed025's Note - what are you trying to say degs?.. :)

He can also fill in at CB in a pinch shown he can do it in the world cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh he be better buy then clevs or rodwell

I'm just a tad concerned that Medel might be susceptible to a few too many yellow cards - and an occasional red one.
Taking a card for the team (aka professional foul) is part of the modern game - as are the inevitable cards for some challenges that are harshly judged by referees these days - but I'm fearful that indiscipline (bordering on the reckless) might just be too much of a risk. Our squad will still be comparatively thin - despite additions - and RM surely needs enough fit and available (i.e. not suspended) players imho to be able to rotate the selections in the four competitions we're in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree Sid, Medel received 6 yellow cards in 34 games for Cardiff in the league last season. Meanwhile, McCarthy received 5 yellow cards in 32 games and Barry received 10 yellow cards in 32 games for us in the league last season.

Medel has calmed down and looks much more disciplined since joining Cardiff. He's not the same player that received 15 yellow cards + 1 red in 30 games for Sevilla in the 2011/2012 season.

Nsno: fair point on the stats. :-)
