Do you think we will bring anyone else in this window?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think deadline day could be interesting mate..

Ed025: I agree that transfer deadline day will be interesting - and we may see some comings and goings (if only loans) right up to the wire at our club - but let's just be mindful about how many players we are permitted to register in our Premier League squad and in our Europa League squad.
However:
Surely we'll tie up a deal for Henen?
Surely some more of our 'fringe' players or 'developing' players will go out on loan?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the henen deal is really dragging sid, anderlecht are playing hardball and so are we..

Lads please help me out here.
I need to print tickets and don't have a colour printer do they have to be in colour?! thanks boys!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably doesn't make any difference if they are color or not but I'd be safe and call the club to make sure. if you do need colour you should be able to print them at a local library.

Alongside the news on the official club website that Hallam Hope has gone out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship - a move that imho should do him the power of good - there's the news that we've signed Conor Hunt, an 18 year old goalkeeper from Blackpool. Now we already have two keepers in our U-21 squad (Stanek and Griffiths) and two in our U-18 squad (Hewelt and O'Loughlin), so does that mean that one of those four is leaving - maybe on loan? Or perhaps there'll be plenty of rotation in the goalkeeping position at that level? Any thoughts from anyone who watches the U-21 and U-18 matches?

I think the draw for the Europa was ok accept for that Russian team, travel wise that is, no easy teams but we should have enough quality to get through this group. As for deadline day I suspect Henin and maybe a loan deal for a RB/CB to be the max we will get, I for 1 would be happy with that, 1 last point for the people having a pop at BK shame on you, Bill has done well for us and Roberto and I hope is our chairman for along time to come.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2014 20:47:03
Totally agree mate Bill and the board have been brill for us in this transfer window, and I still think there will be some more business on deadline day,ps thank goodness we have Bill and Roberto at the helm even if we find investment I hope Bill stays as chairman he is one true Blue

Agree0 Disagree0

We have 4 consecutive away games in October/ November
Swansea away in the league cup
Liverpool away BPL
Krasnodar away Europa
Manchester United away BPL
Will be a horrible period and would have thought we will play a second string v Swansea. Hopefully we won't be under pressure for a result in Russia! But were in Europe again so I can't complain!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - a horrible period clarkey?....i think you mean an exciting one mate..

Horrible? No.
Exciting? Certainly.
However, the adjective I'd prefer to use is 'challenging' :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the challenge is what makes it exciting for me sid..

Ed025: as long as RM's team rises to the challenge and doesn't capitulate and bottle it like DM's team did imho on far too many 'big' occasions :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats still a big worry for me mate, and the way we have let points slip already does not inspire me..

Bony linked with Spurs & Arse £24m, would love to see him up front alongside Lukaku Bill?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2014 19:44:11
Id love to see messi, falcao, lewandowski, aguero and ibrahimovic alongside lukaku too, come on bill ye tight get!

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally could only see 4 out of them 5 being signed before 11pm monday Swan

Agree0 Disagree0

Swan: but if we got all those non-homegrown players we'd have to drop some players from the registered squads. How could you possibly omit Alcaraz or Kone or any other stalwarts? ;-)

Shane duffy has joined blackburn for 1.5m, shame it didn't work out, good luck to the big man

If Duffy leaves, then I reckon that leaves us with just 3 'club-trained' players aged over 21 - Hibbert, Osman and McAleny - who we can name in the Europa League squad. As we now don't have the required 4 'club-trained' players, the squad will only have 24 players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh let's hope we bring in cb don't want to be stuck with alcraez in the Europa league may as well play u at cb swan can't be as bad as alcraez but good luck to big man

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Sid

By this definition:
UEFA defines locally-trained as those who have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15-21.

So we're sound to class jags, baines etc I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Young Rocky: UEFA split 'locally trained players' into two types: 'club trained' and 'association trained'. Baines, Jagielka, Barry, McCarthy and Gibson are 'association trained', while Hibbert, Osman and McAleny are 'club trained' (as was Duffy). We must have at least 4 of each in our Europa League 25-man squad. We can only have a maximum of 17 non-locally trained' players in the 25-man squad. So, without Duffy, our Europa League squad is limited to 24 players.

Perhaps its a sign bobby will use young Tyias Browning instead of Duffy?

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers CS 2, I didn't read deep enough into it then.

Agree0 Disagree0

BebingtonBlue: I agree that Browning looks to be the player that's taken Duffy's place in the pecking order. I also expect Galloway to get closer to the first team squad sooner rather than later.

Nice draw really. Not to far for a couple of them, should keep the getting ripped off by travel companies down to a minimum

Im happy with the draw, alright i'm irish and will not be travelling to the arse end of russia, but who wants to play obscure teams like marabor and such. Lille and Wolfsburg are teams who generally qualify for champions league. This will be a great test for us and I believe this bobbies everton are suited to european football. The passing game we play will suit us well in europe compared to moyes' team of hoof ball. Planning on going to the Lille game and I can't wait for european nights to be back at goodison. been to 4 games in the last 2 years and we've won them all so no worries!
COYB
Oh and up the dubs!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's a good, positive post and I agree that it'll be a very good test - in all aspects - of the club's ability to cope with regular European football amidst the already busy domestic schedule.

Bit of a difficult draw but we can beat anybody at home. Thought we were getting group d with Celtic, but how did we end up in h? Oh well if you want to be the best you have to beat the best. Hoping for 9 points at home and about 4/5 away

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd love us to great results, but imho these matches are very much about the players and the club learning how to cope with the challenges of playing regular European (EL or, eventually/hopefully, CL) football. It's not only that we'll be playing against very good players and teams, but it'll also be about learning about how best to prepare our own players for matches coming thick and fast (domestic and European) and to handle the travel disrupting an otherwise settled training & recovery regime.

And finally krasnodar(?)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The away game to these worries me the most: All the way to Russia and back, then Manchester United the following Sunday. Think we're the ones to beat in the group though, big teams commenting that they wanted to avoid us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was hoping for Rhyl n TNS, defo coulda made those.

Agree0 Disagree0

Huw_EFC: I agree that the match against FC Krasnador on a Thursday followed by a long journey home prior to a Sunday lunchtime match against ManUtd looks to be particularly challenging. Unless there's a special direct flight to/from Krasnador it's apparently a 20 hour road journey to/from the nearest major airport in Russia.

Lille and wolfsburg in Europa so far. At least we won't have to travel too far.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not the best of draws for us but we can get through that group

You just know Origi is going to score against us now Lpool own him, he's on loan at Lille

Agree0 Disagree0

As we were in Pot 3, it was inevitable that we'd get drawn against some quality teams from Pot 1 and Pot 2, so we could have been drawn in a group against some other very good European teams.
Anyway, as the saying goes, you usually have to meet - and beat - the best teams along the way if you want to be successful and win trophies.

I think eto could be a absolute gem of a signing ok so he is past his prime and lost pace but a finisher still knows where the net is and he was probably one of the best 4 5 years ago but could be our fox in the box even though we did not score lots of goals we were creating chances but failing to convert and kill teams off, I look at it like this we struggled for goals last year so adding a proven goalscorer is a bonus something we missed badly without Lukaku, but it would drop either lukaku behind him or Naismith he will need a runner around cause won't be able to run the Chanel's, also got bags of European football in his bag so be good to be able to rest lukaku for prem game on the Sunday

I said all along we would make another 10 million plus signing. I think it may still happen, but I am starting to twitch a bit. let's wait and see. A quality center half would be just the job for this squad and RM must be aware of this. Distin is at the age of slow healing should he pick up an injury. Stones, Distin and Jags is painfully thin cover. Alcaraz has not cut it for me. I think he is too slow for the pace of the premiership. That leaves us really thin on the ground and conceding 4 in our first 2 games just makes me think I am right. Perhaps we will tighten up as fitness levels improve? Who knows? I do expect a quality center half to come in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's clear that RM rates Browning - hence the new three contract - so he's surely viewed as cover at right-back and centre-back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, since this morning, Duffy has left. I don't know if that means anything, but we have 1.5 million extra, some dosh that we already had. and a gaping hole in defence if we get a couple of injuries. I still say we will spend 10 million plus on a center back. Been saying it for weeks and may end up with egg on my face.but it's looking more likely now.
