Okay, six games left in the season. It has not been a fun year.

First, for the last five years I do not believe our preseasons have been challenging enough.

Second, I do not believe the last 3 managers (Unsy not included) have been fountains on inspiration and leadership. (If I'm off base, please feel free to correct me. )

Third, our new owner wants to win, but is a novice to the football business as the lead owner / investor. But companies make bad hires every day, and leaders know when to call it a day, cut bait, and start over.

Fourth, we have had a lot of injuries.

Fifth, no striker or RB or LB cover.

Sixth, major acquisitions took too long to bring in. I expect it to gel after a full preseason.

Seventh, the PL is truly six teams and 14 also rans. Despite our awful year, we stand ninth with 5 of our six games remaining very competitive, so 7th or 8th is not out of reach.

Eight, we have played some youth: DCL, Tosun, Davies, Holgate (for a time) , Kenny, Beni B. Lookman is getting work in Germany, and others are out on loand. Should be an interesting pre-season.

Ninth: Let's see what the management team is next year. Let's cheer for the team for the rest of the season, and let's get ready for a rocking ride in 2018-19.

{Ed002's Note - I expect Lookman to leave.}

I wish him well then. We have seen a good number of young plays come through the last few years (Galloway, Fatbutt, etc. ) yah look so promising in limited action, so it is our natural tendency to view their potential as an indication to how the player WILL be game in and game out in the future

Sure, I’d love to see our U-21’s all graduate to the first team and lead us to CL football. Never going to happen. We fans understandably over romanticize our teams. It leads us to expect too much. We’re a mid table team that hopes to work our way into the top 4 every few seasons. We have potential.

Next year will be better.

I truly meant Garbutt and not fatbutt. Pesky spell check (or my third beer of the evening at the beach)

And again a shout out to Ed002. No fan likes their bubbles busted but sometimes it has to be done. When one is not enjoying an ongoing reality, moaning about it or denying iris not productive.

I appreciate the Ed002 reality checks.

Now let’s go beat them pesky Reds and turn Klopp’s grin into a massive frown.

If Lookman isn't bought back into the fold and given the feeling he's wanted. Well that will sum up what a joke we are.
We should be building the team around him and Davies et al.

The rumours of homesick are crap because why go Germany if true?
He came to us because we play the Kids. He's at the right club.

It'll be a. massive slap in the face if he is allowed to leave. I'm sure he will be very happy to play 30 games all comp next season.

Bolasie I like him as a person. And he did out in a few standout performances at Palace. Never done it for us. He's a woeful player. I'd have a raw Lookman all day over Bolasie.

Ed02 that's really got up my nose. I hope you're wrong or just on the wind up. The kids going to be a mega star.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why would I "wind you up" - you don't seem to get that players come and go, they are no more than transient employees of a club. Other clubs being interested in a player is common - Everton are interested in players - do you think they should stop scouting players, trying to buy the best ones? It is not a "slap in the face" to let a player leave. It seems pretty hopeless trying to tell many of the Everton supporters anything about transfers, you just don't seem to grasp how the game works.}

03 Apr 2018 12:35:00
Cant see why the ed002 would want to wind us up we are quite good at doing that to each other as it is. As for Lookman staying or going that will be down to the management and coaches. If they want him i'm sure he will stay after all he is contracted to 2021, highly unlikely to put in a transfer request. Definitely one for the future hope he stays.

Of course as Ed says players come and go, if a Club wishes a player to remain, then the incentive should be sufficient for him to remain. In Lookmans case, personally I just do not get it, to me the lad is a wonderful player with bags of potential still to be released. We/ I do not see what is going on behind the scenes and/ or training pitch. But obviously Managers/ Coaches must be seeing something in not only Lookman's case but the likes of Klaasen as well to not include them in matchday Squads. Pity about Lookman but as Ed says he is expected to go.

Have to think which of our players would get in top 5 teams. I think Coleman is only one. Very difficult to say that but realistically we are 8 good players off. That’s a left back, 2 centre backs, all the midfield and one striker. Fighting for 5-7 is realistic I’m afraid. I thought Walcott was pointless signing and not impressed with bolassi klasson Keane shniderlin. That lot is 100 million - we can’t just chuck another 200 million at it. Need a manager in that will be there for 5yrs minimum to stop mid match of Moyes Martinez Koeman allidyce players. They seem incapable of playing together.

Been thinking about next season, I know we need new players, but I don't think we need to do what we did this season, we need to look at players who will improve but are proven not young up and coming players, we can't have another season like this one,
But if you could have 3 players who and why would you want them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Apr 2018 23:06:13
I agree. Too many players in one go.
Probably 3 or 4 senior players in coming. And a bunch of young talent.

Think Jags and Baines in their last year at the club next season. So a Left back 100% (As required last summer)
A centre back and a playmaker for me.

Honestly names are irrelevant until the management issues are sorted.
Depends on system and who the new boss will be.

But to play along let's say:

LB Bertrand or Shaw.

CB I really have no idea. As much as I do not want Manure rejects, Smalling would probably be a revelation for us and is just getting to the age where CBs start to mature and give their best.

Play maker. A position so crucial to our team. We havnt had one since Arteta in my opinion.
I know with all the Mids we have, a couple should be moved on.
So let's say: Shaqiri from stoke.

I'm sure I'm asking for a load of thumbs down but hey.
ROONEY can have his USA move this summer. As they say "never go back"
Love the guy and 100% respect for coming back but let's be honest. he's the same for us as he was for UTD last year. The guy who slows it all down and causes more harm than good. Sorry Wayne but time to go lad.

Davies will come good again next year for sure. This year he's probs the 1 guy who will benefit most from 5he adversity of this season.

BOLASIE can go and Lookman recalled for the left.

SIGS plays 10. End of.
CENK 11.

WALCOT Rw

WILLIAMS goes for glue.
MORI can stay as cover but not bothered if he goes too.

And that's about it. Blend the u23s closer to the 1st team Benigeme (sorry can't be bothered to check spelling) and a couple of others should be ready to push the first 11 (If not then they should be moved on too) and start to play some entertaining footy please.

A nice cup run is what we need next season and a strong run at the top 6.
Although 7th would be nice. and is still possible, think the extra rest is probably sensible that we miss out this year. (I am one that was in the pro 7th camp but probably makes sense to miss out due to the world cup and the fact we wouldn't win the darn thing anyway. )

I would keep Rooney I wouldn't touch Shaqiri I seen ED01 (I think it was him) who said he isn't very good and isn't a team player I would love Bernard from Shakter but with no European football we have less than 10% of a chance of signing him so maybe Klasson could fill that roll and we have Dowell coming back imo we need a back up keeper a LB a CB another holding mid if Schniderlin goes we need another striker and a LW.

Agree0 Disagree1

03 Apr 2018 16:17:31
Bertrand LB would be good signing, at his peak, should get 4-5 years out of him.
Jamie Vardy (at the right price)
A creative midfielder who can dribble and pick out a pass, can't think of any names on that one.
New CB who can win a header, is confident and doesn't sh** himself all the time.

ED I completely agree with you. I've said this a few times and some here have their views on having people from the club around but would Kendall or Royle accept that performance? Unsworth may have his limitations especially in experience but when he talked he talked like us and so too does Dunc.

That is what you want around your players. I question whether Koeman would have thought the same. Moyes openly talked about how we could never challenge the teams above us and he never did.

The next manager needs to have an unbreakable belief he CAN challenge and that it translates to the players. Otherwise we will continue the same way as we have done for 20 years.

{Ed025's Note - very much so john..

Totally agree BlueJohnUns we need our next manager to be a winner and for him to transfer that mentality onto the players.

Agree Blue John. Any team can beat any team on their day, but we just can't seem to. Just look at Spurs, their team is full of quality players but they have an awful record against the other top 5. That has to be down to tactics, coaching and belief and that has to come from the coaching staff.

Liverpool in my opinion have a better attack than city how we cope with them who really knows but if we play MS and wayne in the centre I really fear the scoreline I always dread the derby but this one has me panickstricken.

I find that at my age alcohol makes me comfortably numb without causing the antagonism prevalent in some younger supporters. Come the pre-season and a nice Holiday or two I shall of course approach the 2018-19 action as I did this one, sort of T-Total and see where it goes from there.

Agree lad no effort no passion, spent most of the game yday talking to me dad and the fellas who sit by us. I think we only put about 2 or 3 tackles in the whole game, was a joke.

agree with that ollblue1878. The likes of Sam are paid huge money to make decisions and pick a side so all we laypeople can do is express opinion. My view is though that picking Schneiderlin (the player not the person) alongside anyone in the DM positions has a detrimental effect. Bolasie may not be everyones favourite but he alongside Davis, Coleman, Baines, Jags, Tosun and Calvert at least put in a shift. Still we are on 40 points now and it could be argued Sam has fulfilled his brief.
