Just a small foot note to those who did not want SAM. A small unrecognised fact. Watford have conceeded more home goals than any other team in the premiership, at this time, do we really need another Martinez?

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Dec 2017 10:08:49
Not sure what that has to do with Sam.

Anyway we've got him now so not much we can do. I hope he wins every game while he's here and then buggars off when he's done.

A really good win today and there wasn't much wrong in any area of the pitch.

The back four were very good today. Kenny was reliable but extremely cool under pressure. Holgate had a dodgy first half but came back strong in the second and his pace is vital when paired with Williams. Williams seems to have gained some confidence after the midweek game and was much better and his anticipation was spot on. Martina had his best game for us and even threatened when going forward.

In midfield Davies seemed to have been affected by the clash of heads in the 1st half but did better after the break. He's so important in connecting midfield and attack. Rooney for me was ineffective until moved forward when he caused them much more harm. His ball for Calvert was inch perfect.

Gylfi for me is starting to thrive and he making things tick up front. Some of his movement is unbelievable and his work rate is easily the best in the team. People can say what they want about his price but I think he's a snip at what we bought him for.

There was quite a few on here saying Gana plays better with Davies than Snids and I totally agree. Where Snids and Gana seem to get in each others way Davies is more mobile and we seem to cover more ground with these together. And covering more ground is what Lennon is doing for us as well. He gives Kenny help and covers pretty well.

Pickford is awesome. Let's leave it at that for him. But finally Calvert is growing into a fine player. He's young and raw still but what he lacks in experience he gains in endeavour. He never gives up. Ever. And he wins chances that most would give up on. Especially a certain Rom.

A great win. Good start for the new management and everyone can stop panicking now. 3 wins 1 draw and 1 loss in the last 5 premiership games is hardly relegation form so hoprefully we can start looking to closing the gap on the top 6.

One player I would like us to sign in January would be Luke Shaw he had so much talent at Southampton and think he chose the wrong move and the big move has went to his head would be a risk but hopefully we could get some fire back into his belly.

I won't pretend I've ever been a big fan of Sam Allardyce over the years but his tactics today did work for us. We looked stronger and more organised at the back than we have done all season and the players in general looked more confident and assured. If we can keep this up and improve further I may be in danger of starting to warm to the man.

As for his second in command Sammy Lee, I won't beat around the bush; I didn't like him as a player, and again have never been a fan of him as a coach. However today I saw a side of Sammy Lee I've probably missed over the years.
On the way to the game I read his recent comments where he questioned why some Evertonians are bitter towards him and then explained how he fell out with the rs after they treated him badly while he was a coach there, ending with him saying Everton are the people's club and always have been.
I treated those comments with some disdain, initially thinking of them as the words of a man who wants to be accepted by his new employers.
My stance was however softened somewhat by his attitude in the touchline this afternoon.

For the entire game he was on his feet, shouting and screaming, challenging every decision that went against us and cajoling the opposition' bench, at one point I thought he was going to have a straightener with Wagner.
To then watch him with the subs, winding up and encouraging the ongoing subs up as they went on and hugging and congratulating the off coming players as they left the pitch made me consider how professional he may be as a coach.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not suddenly starting a Sammy Lee fan club but I have again softened my opinion of him.

Excellent post mate I watched Sammy Lee as well on the touchline getting a bollo from the for yelling or whatever which he and Big Sam did very vocal both of them completely different from Koeman and his deadpan image, if this is the start then I want to be here for the ride.

02 Dec 2017 22:27:20
The thing I noticed was how Big Sam, Little Sam and Shakespear appear to enjoy working with each other, all 3 of them were in full communication with each throughout the game. Also how the 2 Sams gave the players a lot of respect whilst still showing them who is in charge.

Still got a long way to go but the improvements were very refreshing to watch.

Wow what a interview after the match from Big Sam what a good guy he is, just the piece that has been missing from our Club in one word Passion, he says it is as on the tin, no messing just an honest assessment of our match, anyone who had doubts about him forget it, he will be at this club for a very long time and very successful it will be.

{Ed0333's Note - I’m glad you can see such unadulterated positives in appointing Sam Allardyce as your leader Guernsey. If he was at Liverpool i don’t think I’d be so jingoistic mate.

02 Dec 2017 19:36:17
Onwards and upwards mate we have to start somewhere.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Dec 2017 20:20:13
We have to tread carefully GB. An honest assessment is we were awful in the first half. Huddersfield are well organised but like us low on confidence (we are getting better) . Allardyce assets are his assessing. Everyone sat around and near me knew what he would do second half and it was only what any Manager with confidence and commonsense would do. For weeks/ months we have reverted back to either the Wilkins pass the ball method or sitting deep and inviting Teams onto us. Both Lennon and Siguurdson pushed higher up in the second half which led to Siguurdsons goal. I honestly believe (obviously not no matter what) in the old agage of attack is the best form of defence. If the other side is deep and on the back foot (and I am talking about the middle of the table Teams like us here) it leaves us space to play the ball and find a target. All Sam did was use commonsense, as he says it isn't rocket science. We have a long way to go and we will see where we are after the game across the park.

Bloody hell GB it's only been one game and three days! Talk about easily pleased!

Let's be careful here and stay on our toes. He's got to now manage a team and expectations that aren't simply to survive. He's never had to deal with this pressure before.

For me today though it was a good win and a type of win that we haven't done for a while. The big difference was after the second goal we managed the game and slowed it down.

A great start.

Those who chose to stay away until Sam has gone must wishing they had not, the ones who took pitch forks and burning torches must be looking a little silly stood in the rain, unlit torches and thousands of Evertonians with smiles on their faces, all tong in cheek of course, but a lesson to be learned, do not judge a book by its cover.

Only time will tell, but for now, get behind the manager and give him a chance.

Good win that, was great to see the two Sams constantly giving instructions from the sideline. Always hated Sammy Lee for being a kopite but he's a professional and you can't knock his attitude. Just a shame it was only 2-0 because I bet Gylfi 1st scorer 3-0 at 60-1.

Well Ed 025,what a difference two games two wins and two clean sheets, i think Mr Moshiri could have found the ideal manager for us, on the touchline today he was so vocal ams also Sammy Lee got told off by the for yelling and whatever, just what we have been missing with Koeman who just stood there then moaned about the team afterwards, also to all the Doom Merchants who said Rooney was finished and his legs have gone total hogwash, well they will have to find something else to gripe about because these last two games he has been superb as may I add have the rest of the team, i can see big things happening at Goodison Park in the coming months with Big Sam at the helm with the transfer window coming up, this is just what Everton Football Club have needed, and on an end note nice to see Bill beaming at the end, glory days not far away.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i would like to think so GB and as you say the last 2 games have certainly given us hope, it would be nice to do it against one of the better sides though mate...starting next week..

02 Dec 2017 13:41:28
I didn't want Big Sam myself originally but you can understand the necessity brought on by the desperate, abject performances this season. I think he's said the right things so far and if he improves our situation I couldn't care less if I like him or not. It's worth bearing in mind that we aren't that far from the top half of the season. If we put a shift in like we did last Weds every game and sign the right players in the right places there's no reason we can't at least equal last season (that is a tall order though) . I'm going for ahard fought.

I'll be honest and say I won't be applauding Big Sam or little Sam but I will be applauding the team onto the pitch. I've made it clear what I believe. However, I won't be slating every poor performance and blaming the manager. I never want anyone who's involved in our club to fail no matter who they are.

For me though I'm sick to the back teeth of managers. It's all that's talked about now and is the constant focus since the final year of Moyes.

I'm also sick to death of fans talking about bad performances of players but never see the good on the pitch even when we win. A few on here singled out players from our 4-0 win in midweek to have a go. They're low on confidence but gave everything on Wednesday and even though some came up short maybe, you can't fault the effort.

Let's start today with a new manager, backroom team AND a new outlook on the game. There were some on here that would give their views on every player and how they thought they rated. We'd agree or disagree but they were balanced views. However, too many now focus on the negative performances.

Its time to look forward now and hopefully a move towards the top half of the table.

I’m curious as to how this will play out tbh. He’s not really had the chance to go much further than survival in the league. I don’t see us struggling in the way his reputation as a manager would indicate, especially after last Wednesday. I’m not saying we’re all ok now, but I’m more optimistic.

He’s got 18 months so let’s see if he can make the most of them. If I was him I would be moving hell and high water to shrug off the fire fighter image and see if I could be remembered for winning something instead. Let’s face it, this is the only chance he will ever get at this level. He’s kind of admitted that already.
