I would like to admit I was unsure when we appointed Martinez. I was still unsure until before the villa game. I know we have had a great season but I still felt some questions needed answering. At half time of the villa game I text me old man and said this is Martinez first big test, lost the derby badly and down at home to villa within days. He passed with flying colours. Stuck to his guns and believed in his philosophy even with star men out / having a bad game. Well done bobby lad! I now believe.
On another note why are people getting in ross? He will make mistakes because of the way he plays. But he has the ability and the confidence to do things others can't or are afraid to do. Don't knock him for this applaud him and back him. We won't sign a player for 30 mill, but this guy could be that player that we could never dream of signing. I for one would pay to watch him as an everton player or not.

Massive result yesterday, we have played much better and need to get the winning confidence again, we can't play at the same level throughout the season and every team has a dip in form. In fairness we have had really bad luck with injuries, every team gets them but not as crucial as what we have. I think a premier league team needs to have 2 players in every position and we have had all our players injured in the same positions and even City would struggle with this. Coleman gets injured then Hibbert should play (stones is cb).
We have had jags, distin and Alcaraz all injured or not match fit leaving only one fit cb (stones) for the last 6weeks. Barry & McCarthy dm with Gibson injured we need another dm if either gets injured we will miss them the same as lukaku. Mirallas, mcgeady, delefeou and piennar as our wide players is satisfactory this season, No10 role goes to Barkley with Osman giving him a break when needed and coming on as a sub to make an impact like v Stoke. Lukaku and traore as the strikers but think we have left ourselves a bit short here as it is clear vellios has no future with our club.

So we have 2 players in every position but think even this has been stretched and Roberto has made mistakes in not playing Hibbert and not playing our cb if they not fit and recall Duffy to play, I would rather see Osman playing in the no10 role than giving Ross a injection and only playing 50% of his ability and denting his confidence. But hey Roberto's the gaffer who makes the decisions and although he has done a fantastic job so far he is a young manager who will make mistakes but I am sure he will learn from them.

We should be getting our strongest 11 back soon and get back to our earlier form and have a go for top 4 why don't the international breaks come when you want them.
Arsenal win next week and we get a result against spurs it's game on again. IRWT

Great post that mate

You missed out poor Naismith mate.

So I did apologies but he is one of those players who is forgettable I still not sure on him to be honest he definatly is not a winger. The jury still out on him as a striker he is a player who has a knack if scoring important goals and maybe over the next couple if weeks is a test for him. One thing is though he will always put a shift in and maybe he doesn't get the credit he deserves and I guilty of that because I forgot about him. Lol

After all the doom and gloom of the derby defeat then no one coming in on deadline day all fans moaning and writing are season off well we were 4 pts behind after that match now were 2 behind, next matches spurs v everton and Liverpool v arsenal so we need a top performance on Sunday as I think Liverpool will draw so come on boys Del Boy should be on bench Coleman should be back hopefully troare can be on bench but I would start with Naismith up front, you may laugh but he came on for 20 mins and should of had 2 but took his goal well but at least he was in the right place 9 times out of 10 he would score personally think he is better as a striker than out wide and will always put in a shift

I agree with this. Would drop barkley to the bench because he doesn't look match fit. Would play mirallas in the central attacking mid role with pienaar left and mcgeady right. Gives us options from the bench in the 2nd half when spurs defenders will be tired.
Howard
coleman jags distan baines
barry mccarthy
mcgeady mirallas pienaar
naismith

traore, barkley, ossie, possibly deloufeu able to be brought on to change the game. Would also have hibbo and stones on the bench, (start hibbo rb if coleman not fit)

Do do do Victor Anichebe!

Another Everton goal for Big Vic. Miss ya buddy.

Let's say Roberto ships a million 6 packs of Chiang beer to West Brom. they might release Vic so he can join back up on a free.

A little disappointed and confused by transfer policy over last 2 weeks. But some suggestions for the summer that could have us set up sensibly for years to come.
1. Sign Barry. On a free.
2. Sign Jack Colback. On a free. Been at Sunderland since schoolboy. 25. In some ways Barry like, left footed, defensive midfield player, can play left back. But quicker, smoother passer, just coming into his own, almost like a left sided James McCarthy. Contract runs out at end of season.
Then we would have McCarthy, Barry, Gibson and Colback - a central defensive midfield that could cope with Europe League.
3. Sign Tom Ince. On a free. 20. He has played several different positions at Blackpool. Have RM coach him into Pienaar replacement, attacking midfield, coming in from left, but with motor that can cover and link. Alternatively sign Nick Powell Manchester United attacking, linking midefielder, at Wigan on loan. 21. Could be expensive to sign, maybe able to loan.
4. Work out if Alcaraz can cope for a season as back up to Distin. RM knows him best. If not sign Bruno Martins-Indy. Big strong, athletic, already full Dutch international, only 22. May cost 4 or 5mio. Long term replacement for Sly.
5. Should leave enough money to buy expensive striker. We surely should have 15 to 18mio left. Choice a) Lukaku, b) a revived Benteke under RM, c) Remy (Newcastle already signed a replacement, and QPR will sell), d) Batshuayi. I still prefer Lukaku, as he appears a learner, willing to adapt and change and could really prosper in time. Also if he does poorly, at his age, he is probably easiest to on sell. May have to go to 20mio for him, but maybe 15-18mio with 20% on sell clause for Chelsea.

Then we have experience and team spirit covered. A very young and developing core, and a stong group of teenagers pushing hard for the future.
eg.
Experienced team.
Howard, Hibbert, Jags, Distin, Baines.
Gibson, Barry.
McGeady, Osman, Pienaar
Kone.
The future, developing, improving.
Robles, Coleman, Stones, Martins-Indy, Oviedo.
McCarthy, Colback.
Mirallas, Barclay, Ince/Powell.
Lukaku
with the next generation already strong.
Stanek,
Duffy, Browning, Garbutt
Lundstram, Green
Kennedy
Mcaleny, Long, Hope.

Then we would be in RM's hands, can he improve those young players enough that we can make Champions League. maybe, just maybe. and we would be first team to do it on such a budget.

Remy has 2 seasons max before he loses a yard of pace and newcastle haven't signed a replacement they loaned in the crap that is luuk de jong, don't want either benteke or lukaku, both would cost over 20m, utd would not sell powell to us, ince is a right winger cutting in, how is he pienaars replacement, don't want him anyway, colback would be good, all in all I disagree with the majority of that post

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't forget the possibility of Delofeou on another season loan, we have first option I think

Agree0 Disagree0

Chealse will let lukaku go for 20 swan and how strange you don't agree with his post I don't think you agree with anyones posts haha if I said the sky was blue you most prob say no its gold.
Me personally would take lukaku for 20 mill he has dropped of the pace a little but he is great and is only going to get better under rm

I'd go for begovic to replace Howard first

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a bad post, I don't agree with everything but unlike the first response I don't claim to know it all especially when a player will lose his pace, the days of players being finished at 30 are well gone.
I would not take Ince as the rumours of his bad attitude are to strong and something we don't need. Barry is a no brainer Alcatraz is to slow and is ok filling in for jags but we need a CH with pace to cover Distan am also not convinced by Lakaku especially for £20 mill but it might just be leading the line on his own all season is catching up with him but do agree we have got some really promising young players about to challenge for places in the first team

Agree0 Disagree0

I think all the people saying lukaku is not worth 20 mill are on something he was awesome at westbrom an scored a bunch of goals he hs been top notch for us an he is only a kid really he has been upfront all season on his own he is going to fall of the pace for a while just watch when he returns all you doubters will be sayin bill bill please give us the 20 mill to sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll be honest. If these transfers occur in the summer window, and maybe another 2 strikers rather than 1 lukaku, and we keep all our stars, then I'll be pretty chuffed to say the least.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cb is a must martins Indy a good choice Cm I like colback but maybe we can do a little better Rather keep deulofeu for another than ince St for me I would go for finnbogasson and batshauyi both young with a lot of potential could also get both these for less than we would pay for lukaku

Looking at table there are seven teams going for top four slots.
Being realistic Manc c, Chelsea and Arsenal will occupy top 3 with Liverpool, us, spurs and Manchester United going for fourth. Manchester United are 5 behind us, with Spurs only one place.
Hopefully Liverpool wil drop points at West Brom however from what i've watched so far it looks like Liverpool will pick up all three.
Long way to go this season but we need to really refocus now and knuckle down for the wins.

Roberto and club have been quite quiet about the final week of the transfer window. I know its wrong time to buy as clubs hold u to ransom. I just hope that we have already put wheels in motion behind scenes for the quality additions we need to go to next level.
We have almost got to champions league in recent years through a lot of hard work and resilience. would just love to see us back in Europe.
Long way to go and we'll have our blips but I think others will too.
Lets get our players fit and do this.

Iam not out to criticise the owners, management, or anyone but I have one simple question that I would like answering? Where has the money that was made available for transfers gone? Bear on mind that the funds raised from the sale of Fellaini had no impact on the funds used to buy James McCarthy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Add the 6 million for anichibe and 6 million for jelavic that's nearly 40 million there must be funds or is there?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned quite a few times, it's seems that Roberto didn't want to buy anyone in the jam window especially DD as there aren't many players of good quality that are willing to leave a club in jan if they do then they are overpriced. I'm guessing that we are looking to do our business in the summer Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you looking for the bank account details the money is sitting in or are you another of these "we should have bought somebody/anybody in the window" doom mongers?

Agree0 Disagree0

My Opinion is that as a club we have decided to hold on to the money we have and use it for next season Players like Colback and Ince will be available on frees to shore up the midfield so there will be money available for a CB and a striker (maybe 2) Roberto will also use the loan system to great effect again. I think we will have a good end to this season but the injuries might put paid to a top 4 place but next season we will be able to compete with all the so-called big teams in this league (hope I'm wrong about the top 4 place this season)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - ince is going abroad AL..

Didn't say we should sign him to be honest Ed just that he and others will be available for free at the end of the season so money should be used for permanent still in contract targets, I have really seen Ince play so I've no idea about him.

Everton Football Club be proud of your efforts. After the humiliation we copped at Anfield it would have been so easy after we conceded the first goal to drop our bundle. We didn't and we won. So those who are complaining about players it's a team effort. Not every player can perform every game. I have read absolute garbage on this site. Just a taste Mirallas is lazy. Osman too slow. Pienaar lazy and slow. Lukaku not for Everton. Howard is a hack and old. Stones is not up to it. Barkley is a hog and doesn't pass. And god would only know why Certain Everton so called fans would want to sell Baines and Barkley. These players I have mentioned except for stones have all played for their countries. And we are 5th not 15th. Sorry for the rant but I'm sick of negativity on this site even when we win.

Well said mate, agree with you totally

Agree0 Disagree0

Just not about the cricket. absolutely dismal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on mate. We're all entitled to an opinion but some fans have unrealistic expectations. They expect our players never to have off days, and the board to gamble limited funds on players that may add to the squad but not necessarily improve it. (sorry, that last point is in reference to later posts).
If only 'real' life was as easy as Football Manager

Just a last point on Barkley and Stones. They are both young players who yes have made mistakes. But have any of you noticed how they don't hide on the pitch scared to receive the ball. No they always make themselves available, always support others, and don't hide when things go wrong. These two young men can and will become the spine of our team, so stop moaning about them and support them on their journey. We will be a poorer team if they leave.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I though Stones did rather well. He will not run over people like Seamus, but I think he stood his ground at RB. Good pick up by old coach Moyes (5 points in the back with the payroll larger than most countries). And yes, Barkley is still young. He is as much a greedy ball hog as Mr. Suarez across town. But isn't that the quality you want to refine and foster?

Agree0 Disagree0

Could not agree more twoold. There confidence and ability should be supported. Players like that take you to the next level.

Great comeback today, even though we were pretty awful. I think the problem is the lack of vertical movement in midfield Barkley (who needs to pass more) is the only one who breaks the lines, Mcarthy can do it but seems content sitting on the halfway line with Barry.
