Fine margins eh?
I was 15 minutes away from posting a mocking joke about how the Spanish FA would not be offering Brown Shoes the national job. now I'm not so sure.

I actually won't lie. I was in favour for his appointment. I liked his anti Moyes style that had been so reliable but also oppressive. I liked him from his Wigan interviews.
He seemed to have a higher repect from players on the continent, and had success in the transfer market (or am i only thinking of Lukaku? )

That 1st season was our best for decades. I remember Pulis saying we played like Barcelona. We had a dirty secret. It was all built on DMs hard task management.
Brown Shoes bought some much needed flair and belief and bolted it directly to the hardest working (if low in talent) Prem side. We broke our points record by a country mile in the Prem era.

It all looked so good and then the timespan increased and naturally the
DM DNA faded away. And all of a sudden we were one of the least fittest teams that played attractive football but not attractive enough to paper over our short comings.

He was found out as a lazy coach. A coach I would have loved when I was playing, because I'm lazy too and only liked training with the ball.
We went from consistently scoring late winners as teams faded against our relentless spirit. To no hopers that would easily slip into relegation battles.

He's a real chance to make the world take note. He has a brilliant squad with Belgium and a dream tie. Hero making opportunity. Brazil have been there for the taking since 2002. If Bobby boy can pull off a win he will surely put his Everton wobbles behind him and leap frog into the top level of the game. Maybe nice guys do win?

Good post, shame we couldn't fuse the good dna of Moyes football with the good dna of Martinez bottle that up!

I wasn't on for his appointment at Everton and still think he stayed longer than needed. Imho as was said on here before he is suited to international managed better than Premiership management. He proved that by winning the cup with Wigan. He may prove it more with Belgium. As for Premiership I don't think so.

3 gone and still a month to go. Looks like we've got a chance of getting rid of a chunk of players this window. Could be tricky to shift the high earners like Williams and Sandro but you never know eh.

Ok I know its a while since I last posted and I also know I wind some up with repetitive comments. I had a time out but just HAD to comment on these 2 posts about 3 gone and a month to go. What I don't understand is why this is viewed as a positive thing within our club? We have "god rid of" 3 players. One was our top goal scorer last season with 11 goals. Another was a young ish center half that had suffered injury and is just getting back to fitness after what seems an eternity out. I assume the other is Garbutt? But what I don't understand is how you guys think this is positive? As yet we have made zero new signings. I expect us to make 2 or 3. but last season was dire. This season we will have the same squad with maybe 2 or 3 new signings but as no one. We will be without Rooney's goals and experience and Jags will be 36 and Baines 33. Williams will still be as fat and you guys sound like we will win the league? I just don't get it but let's talk 5 games in. that's when I will post again. Unless of course we sign a load of new players.

Agree0 Disagree9

02 Jul 2018 21:07:36
We are going to have to wait till Williams gets fit before I think clubs look seriously at him. Then there's Sandro I'd love to see him fit in a Silva team somewhere but I just don't think he's cut out for the premiership. Good to see the lads back today I'm sure Silva will be watching them closely and working his magic.

It's not rocket science, Degsy, is it? It has been well publicised that we needed to move on some players as we had around 38 on the books going into this window. Brands and Silva have both stated the numbers needed to be reduced before we see an influx. The fact that we have moved 3 players on is progress don't you think? The manager and DoF will then shape the squad accordingly once they shift some of those they deem as surplus. I don't think anyone on here trult believes that we will win the league, some are just pleased that we are moving forward, even if they are not great strides we are moving on regardless.

Pop that vein back in your temple Degsy. Jeez.

Everyone is like a new signing this summer. It's a new team in every department and we will see how it all shapes up.

Again I'm hoping we are patient and get the right people in but also the right ones out. So far we've done exactly that.

I am a little concerned with Rooney going as he was the top scorer last season, but that was with negative tactics from November which affected his record. But if he doesn’t fit in Silva’s plans then you have to trust the new manager.

Ultimately we have to be patient which I agree is hard in the summer transfer window. I’m now looking forward to seeing a few pre season games to see how Silva will shape the team.

Rooney was getting slower as the season went on, Fumes Mori always had a mistake in him and Garbutt just doesn't seem to fit. So in reality what have we really lost so far? If getting rid of 10 underperforming players, and signing 2 or 3 top players is what the club want then that's fine by me?

Agree3 Disagree1

03 Jul 2018 06:28:21
Degsy. Haven't you banged on about our poor recruitment over the last few years? Now I post about trimming our bloated squad you feel the need to come on knocking it as a bad thing.
Your opinions are all over the place with no consistency.
I am happy those 3 have gone because good or bad I don't think they fit with Silvas style of play.
I never said we were going to win the league.
You're banging on about not signing any one yet. Get a grip. Listen to Marco and marcels interviews and you might understand what is going on and why we haven't signed anyone yet.

03 Jul 2018 07:16:34
Can I ask who the 3 are as I count seven players Robles Mori Rooney henen garbut Baxter and grant that brings the sqaud to to 31 I still expect some more outgoings with maybe Sandro and Klasson out on loan Williams is a different beast as who will match his wages at his age. But it's a great start and already shaved near 250k week of the wage bill.

Like I said. I will respond 5 games in. If I respond now, you all say I am getting repetitive. The ONLY comment I will respond to is that getting rid of players is the same as getting rid of staff in any workplace. Sometimes it is better to have replacements lined up and ready. unless you have a load of workers not up to the job and you are planning on closing down or cutting production. I would have said that getting rid of Williams, possibly Jags even. would have been more prudent than a younger/ fitter center half like Mori. I have said loads of times that next season Jags is 36. Too old. Love him, but too old period. Rooney slowing up. yes. But still 11 goals last season. Yes, now I have responded. but what I don't get and even with all your answers, is how this is going to make us attacking/ more exciting/ is making progress? Like I said, in any other workplace, getting rid of staff and numbers is not progress. It is not exciting. And we will see if the change of manager will bring around this super exciting free flowing football. BJU mate, I am as calm as anything about this. no blodd vessels bursting. just a sort of cannot understand the hype and excitement involved with a change of manager. I think more is needed. Like 3 or 4 signings this window. 2 or 3 youngsters coming through. Another 2 or 3 next transfer window. My only positive is that I am grateful for Allardyce for making the best 2 signings we have had since Lukaku. Now who's blood vessels are bursting?

Agree1 Disagree6

03 Jul 2018 09:57:11
Have to disagree with you degsyp I don't think Jags is too old to play a role in the squad. As for bringing in replacements it has been said on several occasions that we will need to trim the squad before we bring in any players so if we want additional quality players then we need to get rid of players that the management feel are surplus to requirements. I also think that the management may be forced into letting players leave due to market forces and player requests. I expect several players to go back out on loans with the hope to sell at a later date which would not necessarily mean new players this window as its not really trimming the squad. Either way I see what's happening as a positive as we are reducing the size of the squad and without doing that we wouldn't get any new players in.

Liking a football club to any other workplace is nonsense. The premier league is awash with money in such a disproportionate way its almost unique. If it needs to reduce its playing staff to a more MANAGEABLE size so as to focus better on improving the smaller number then of course that’s going to be of benefit to the club and it’s fans.

More numbers to manage mean more problems, more distractions and less productivity.

It’s like spinning plates. You can have too many.

03 Jul 2018 12:09:00
Degsy if the players/ employees are deemed surplus to requirements then keeping them when there is an option for them to leave is madness. These guys have a plan and seem intent on sticking to it, so i back them.
Mori, Rooney and Garbutt obviously aren't suitable for Silva and Brands and for that reason they have gone, we had 38 on the books so we are hardly going to be short.

Why you seem to have crossed over to the 'why haven't we signed anyone yet! ' camp is beyond me. There are 5 weeks of this window left, plenty of time to make some signings, the priority is to trim the squad.
Me personally, i wouldn't be p##sed if we didn't make any and used the season as a means to progress some of the youngsters.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jul 2018 15:38:32
Degsy seriously, in the nicest possible way realise what you write. Direct quote from your post "unless you have a load of workers not up to the job and you are planning on closing down or cutting production". That is exactly the situation at the club. There is a load of workers not up to the job and they are taking the place of workers who have more of a chance of being up to it.

So as stated a million times before players need to leave (workers not up to the job) to allow space and for the club to be financially viable for additions. Its a clean out Degsy. There are far too many players at the club. It badly needs to be trimmed. What is the point in keeping some players. Its your opinion that Jags should not be kept. He may go yet. There are still plenty that needs to go.

A vital thing imho is that Holgate, Kenny, Benni, Davies, DCL and the likes will get proper chances. We have plenty of young players with potential. They just weren't given enough chances last season. I wouldn't be too concerned about the age profile because we probably have the best batch of young players in the premiership.

It is a necessary procedure at the moment. What is the point in having a bloated squad with 35 players? Not very efficient. Looks like the club is doing a major overhaul. It may and probably will get worse before it gets better. I wouldn't bother posting 5 games in I told you so Degsy. You will still get stick no matter what.

I'm not trying to get at you at all. Just having the banter and giving my opinion. The same as you. We're equal in my eyes. No one right or wrong on here. Just opinions.

I love your "THE ONLY COMMENT" then proceed to rattle off the same old stuff.

Just calm down and see what happens over the summer. It sounds like utter madness your ramblings at the moment.

No-one is over positive or saying we're going to win the league or even do any better than last season. Most are just talking about better football.

The only one overreacting is you and to such a degree it's obsessive beyond reason.

Take a few breathes and enjoy the preseason.
