seamie getting married, get in there lad, what a year for him, best right back in the league by quite a distance imo, runs all game, can outpace just about anyone, two footed and can both attack and defend, 60k well spent is an understatement, he is improving with every game and will only become more knowledgeable as he gets older, not only is he a quality footballer but also a very calm and nice person who doesn't think himself too good to even give you his autograph he would do it without asking, great role model and someone we are proud to have represent us, keep it up seamus!

{Ed025's Note - no argument from me mike..

Mike-Ox Long being positive? It is still 2013 isn't it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the same thing happened to scrooge keith :) ..

For the first time ever I will use the phrase "If my daughter brought him home and said "Dad, meet my fiancé". ", I wouldn't break the Browning out.

An impressive young man and a genuine definition of that overused cliche "role model".

Exciting times and oh so proud to be blue!

Heres one from left field. I live in Spain and there's quite a big story that's surficed today that Isco could be on his way out of Madrid this January on loan until the end of the season. He wants to play in the world cup and is rumoured to be unhappy at not playing regularly for Madrid. I thought nothing of it but now 3 different 'experts' have mentioned Everton as the 'perfect' destination. Del Boys performances have not gone unnoticed out here and Evertons stock has risen considerably in Spain since Robertos appointment. The argument is simple from the Spanish point of view. We have a Spanish manager who plays good football and Madrid don't want to sell him permanently. i'm not saying Everton will get him but if they do it would be an amazing signing. I can't stress how good this kid is. Arsenal are strongly linked but only to buy not loan. Anything with Everton would be just to end of season. Just sayin what's being said here.

{Ed025's Note - oli, thats a good post...but as from now, non registered posters WILL BE DELETED!!!!

This would be amazing but didn't they pay £30m in the summer for him? I am genuinely excited about this transfer window as for once its about who is coming in rather than who is going out

slim to nil chance of this happening but he is an incredible talent

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

He has only missed 2 games for madrid why would he want to leave
Nonsense

Agree0 Disagree0

Isco plays virtually every game for Madrid, so I doubt this will happen. The more realistic target on loan from Madrid would be Illarramendi. Doesn't play much football for them and is a great prospect, plus we are in need of a defensive minded midfielder.

Your latest user! I appreciate it doesn't sound realistic and trust me the media here are Loco! Make ours seem sensible. i'm just saying that IF Real decide to loan him out there's a chance we might get him. that's all! He has played games but not enough to be going to Brazil with the finest team in the world. Koke & Tiago are being mentioned as ahead of him along with 8 other midfielders I could mention. His body language has been visibly poor this month. Picked up by a lot if people. And even if its nonsense, its cool that people over here are mentioning Everton in the same breath as these types of player.

If we make top 4 we will look back on yesterdays win asthe most important. How many teams could loose 3 top ferformers and win. The team all stood up to be counted notabley Mcarthy, Barclay and Lukaku and a great debut from Alcaras, there is a lot of character in this team. Looking foreward to 2014 and all the best to everyone on the site. coyb. thgfest

probably the usual 'we are getting el shawaary for 12m' and 'juan mata is a liverpool fan he will jump at the chance to come here' and all those other lies, they will buy messi in 5 years after they win everything possible to win in football oh wait they have been saying that for the last 20 years and still haven't produced anything close to a direct assault on every trophy possible, in other words, does it really matter? we are still better than them and judging by rodgers' poor summer signings like sakho, aspas and toure I wouldn't be too worried about who they sign because they still will not win the league

Mike-Ox Long

They are a one trick pony, and they have sold every principal they ever had in order to keep a man who says the manager is a liar and he wants to leave. The man is a serial cheat, and will be off like a rat up a drain when he gets the right offer, still he has the teeth for the role.

Barkley is fast becoming a top top player this is his position and england need to use a formation to use our next gen of players not after World Cup now he can hurt teams at the World Cup I don't bye the fact of in experiance new need to go out and let these players to express themselves we need to go to brazil and play something that opponents are not expecting Gary Neville is really prasive when he talks about everton and when he sees barkley he must know he has to accommodate this boy for the good of English football so pleasing to see a English born player run at defences like he does it's the one thing defences hate and have not seen since gazza did and that was the last World Cup where I enjoyed watching england

So here we are.
Exactly half way through season and have achieved 37 points, 5 off top.
We manage the same for 2nd half we will hit 74.
Do we think that will be enough for a CL spot.

One things for sure it is a long season and for once I hope the board really do help push us on and help Roberto buy in Jan simply to bolster squad depth.

If he can find a 15 goal striker then I am sure we won't be far off.

In my heart I would love to see us in the title race at the death but as I have done I have taken one game at a time.

I just hope Roberto can keep the belief going in the squad because it is evident that this is a key factor in our transfornation.
He is always looking to learn lessons and teach them and in my opinion any one who doesn't listen to him, the more fool him.
I hope that Ross can keep his feet grounded and continues to work hard and that Romelu will continue with the fire and passion that he has shown his shirt so far.

Lets get behind the squad anf keep fingers, toes and whatever else we can crossed in the hope that the first half of 2014 brings Everton footballing sucess once again.

I keep hearing roberto shouting from the touchline to ross to give him help during a game, something we most likely wouldn't have heard from moyes unless it was a derogatory comment. Roberto is taking ross under his wing and is really helping him flourish. Great to see the rest of the team believe in his ability and provide him with the ball to express himself. Roberto played in a similar attacking midfield role during his playing days and I think that will also help with ross' development in years to come. Looks like he is enjoying his football and here's to 2014 with a glimer of hope to break into the elusive top 4. CraigHuytonBlue

Sorry Craig, but wasn't RM a defensive minded midfielder? I'm pretty sure he was. That doesn't detract from an otherwise good, sensible post.

just wanted to say how happy I am with the blue boys this season, we've had a great first half to the season and long may it continue, since the derby (which we should have won) we have won 5 drawn 1 and lost 1, 16 points from 21, lukaku had a dip in form but showed some power, pace and skill yesterday and his goal will do him the world of good, 3 wins from the next 3 games before we go and show the sh*te how to play football again, coyb!

I've not felt this excited and optimistic about EFC going into the New Year for 30 or so something years. So here's a question for my fellow Blues to ponder:

Which is the best Everton side? Howard Kendall's Champions of 84/85 and 86/87 or Roberto's 13/14 team that have the potential to emulate that great 80s side?

Would the likes of Barkley, Lukaku, Jags, Coleman and Baines have made Kendall's line up or would Big Nev, Kevin the Rat, Tricky Trev, Peter Reid and Sharpy have featured this season under Roberto?

I know it's early days yet but I have a feeling that this is the start of something just as I did after that FA Cup win against Watford back in 84. How do you guys feel?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I fully understand your optimism and do agree that this is our best side since the 80's. I don't think that it is possible to make a comparison until our current side have actually won some trophies. Even then it may be unfair to do so, as in the 80's it was more of a level playing field, unlike now, where Chelsea, Man City and to a slightly lesser degree Manchester United have bought success. We even have sides who have tried to buy the league title for more than 2 decades and failed miserably. ( I can't even bring myself to type in one of their names! ).

I am trying desperately to keep my feet on the ground. I just hope that Roberto can keep the players focused on one game at a time.

It's certainly a good time to be a blue. All the best to my fellow blues and to all the Ed's for 2014 and thanks for their sterling work it is much appreciated.

I think a combination of the side in the 80's and the current side would be a dream, obviously some of our most experienced players now could possibly have played and suceeded in the 80's team, such as jags, baines and more recently coleman and barkley although the latter is still learning his trade and we can't cast whether he would have been good enough for our 80's team, similarly to del boy and lukaku. especially when we had players like trevor steven and kevin sheedy plying their trade on the wing back then! My personal combination of the 80's and 2013 team would be:

Southall
Stevens/Coleman Jags Rat Baines
Steven Reid McCarthy Sheedy
Barkley
Sharp

Hard to pick between Stevens and Coleman, especially of colemans displays of late and also between sharp and gray as both had great attributes, but my childhood hero was hsarp so had a soft spot for him.
CraigHuytonBlue

Agree0 Disagree0

The present team hasn't won anything yet. The 84-87 sides won four major honours in four seasons and it could so easily have been eight if it hadn't been for a combination of bad luck/fatigue/a myopic referee by the name of Alan Robinson/Lineker's new boots. In 1985 the readers of World Soccer magazine voted Everton the international team of the year, an award that was richly deserved. The present team is some distance short of that standard. In my opinion the only present player who would get a run out with Kendall's teams is Baines. Van den Hauwe was a better defender but Baines has a better all round game. Coleman would push Stevens but much as I rate Jags, Mountfield was just as good and could score goals and Watson was better than either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks to all of those who replied to my question of comparative sides. I accept that the current side have yet to win anything and that playing fields are a lot less even nowadays with the influx of SKY money and the availability of a foreign market to choose from within the transfer windows. My choice would be:
Southall
Coleman, Jagielka, Ratcliffe, Baines
Steven, Reid, Sheedy
Barkley
Sharp, Gray

A very happy and prosperous New Year to Evertonians throughout the world. Onwards and upwards. COYB!

Great post but with no name. Hope you don't mind but I've sent it to our friends across the park placing it on their banter page. Just didn't want you to feel that I was treading on toes. As I said before great post and I didn't want THEM to miss out on it.

And it would appear to have done just that. Why are Kopites so tetchy after tasting defeat?
Check out their Banter page Blues and you'll enjoy not just the fall outs amongst themselves but also the wind up comments which appear to ruffle so many feathers.
