we are 5 points worse off now at the same time last season, last season europe this season no europe. wow isint it lucky we are not in europe now.

31 Dec 2015 11:00:21
We are actually 5 points better off bluepaul and 11th compared with 13th at the same time last year. Never the less we should be at least 4 or 5 places higher and another 9 points (35) better off if this wonderful coach who believes we are on the right tracks was doing his job properly. I am actually pissed off commenting on RM and his Staffs failings but worse their inability to see their failings. Martinez is a yes man and yes men will not sanction being surrounded by anything else but other yes men. That in a nutshell is the problem.

Right here's the plan. Bill to convince Mourinho to forget that lot down the M6 and join us. Tells him about the future investment coming in, and about the marvellous team we already have, and all the youngsters coming through. Oh and the new ground of course, mustn't forget that. Don't think it will work? Why not, it's worked on us supporters for bloody years. All the best guys!

So who is this Yank that's been put in charge of our academy does this have anything to do with the takeover?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Peter Vint is very much a fitness and performance guy who I expect will set policy in the first instance. Nothing related to the take over.}

The problem is this season that say we beat Spurs this weekend everyone is on a high again and the stoke game put behind us, that is until the next 'Stoke' game happens then we are all calling for RM's head again.
We cannot defend a lead and are so inconsistent at home. We have become a more attacking and exciting team to watch but are flawed in our tactics and as many are saying it is reminiscent of Wigan.
He has strengthened the squad no doubt, and January is a difficult month to do business.
He will not be sacked this season, he will be given time that is the way the board have shown over the last 12 years.
I think with potential new owners on the horizon, next summer will be decision time so unfortunately we are stuck with things as they are for the rest of the season and as always Evertonians support the team no matter what, I like all of you hope we keep moving up and do not get into a slide otherwise we know his history there!

The frustration all blues feel at the moment is this is undoubtedly the best set of players we've assembled since the 80s.
We will lose the stars in July if this clown is allowed to continue.
Out of his depth, he rules surrounded by his cronies and it is up to the fans to keep up the pressure to have him removed.
I posted ten minutes after his appointment 'We are dead' got slated
but if Lukaku pulls a hamstring?
That lad is keeping us out of the relegation zone when we should be in top four.
Don't sit on your hands guys, The Glad v Howard is just the start unless RM goes.

i agree oh my do i agree mush lad the man is a baffoon he left lennon and mirrallis out of squad against stoke two players could change a game and wot does he say they need protecting but he plays barry who is nearly 35 and brings back mcarthy who has been out for weeks the man is the master of contradiction get him out before we meet wigan in a north west derby.

One striker who will be top of every Champions League Clubs shopping list and 6 or 7 midfielders who manage 1 goal a season on average. Relegation is a possibility this season. And oh yes we need a goalkeeper too!

Use the funds to get Charlie Austin a striker who cqn play with his back to goal and who also knows were the net is

{Ed025's Note - you would need a lot more than the reported £8m from the sale of naisy to land austin gray..

30 Dec 2015 17:17:52
Hey Alanballboy, we are only 9points above the relegation places with half the season to go. Lukaku has scored 15 of our 35 goals. If he loses form or gets injured or suspended for a sending off. I suggest more weird things have happened in football. eg Leicester City bottom this time last season and couldn't buy a win. lost only 2 this season! No we couldn't get relegated. Hey what happened last season when Lukaku lost form? No wins in 12 wasnt it?

Degsy Glass Half empty---half full, we are only 9 points from 4th spot. The Guardian says we have signed Shani Tarashaj a 20 year old forward from Grasshoppers.

30 Dec 2015 17:11:56
He out contract in summer ed but he been quite injury prone. I've seen links with Gray but he played for 2 teams so that no go.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 17:16:39
Dunno tbh ed he doesn't have long left on his contract and was reportably available for 15 mill in the summer so I know 8 won't get him but 10 maybe will. We need to find a foil for Rom who can actually score goals. Kone cannot and if Rom gets injured were screwed whereas if we get Austin he can play the lone role in Roms absence. We need to show a bit of ambition in addressing this lack of cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - l will have that gray..

30 Dec 2015 20:07:14
Who no doubt will go into the U21 squad as he is a phenomenal talent that needs to learn the game to develop into a future integral part of the squad. that's if its true that is.

31 Dec 2015 07:40:19
Austin is out if contract at the end of the season so maybe 8 mill will get him ed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i just think there will be teams who are desperate for a striker and it will start a bidding war gray, some of the lower placed clubs like newcasle, norwich bournemouth etc will see his goals as a lifeline for survival, and teams like ourselves stoke, palace etc as a way of getting a european birth, i may be wrong mate but thats how i see it anyway..

31 Dec 2015 09:28:37
Very true ed but surely we are a bigger pull than all if the aforementioned teams. As a player you should want to play with quality players and we have them here, they are just being mis managed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - "Bigger" is a peculiar term that supporters of some clubs are keen to through out there, but in reality you need to consider first of all the level of interest Everton has in the player - which right now is none. However, there will be a flurry of activity surrounding Austin again in January. It will go the same way as before unless one or more of the interested clubs were to offer the asking price and then the player can make the decision. I expect Bournemouth are, like West Brom, out of the picture. Newcastle, Aston Villa and, perhaps, Crystal Palace or Southampton may well step forward. He is keen to stay in the south of England so Newcastle would need to put a very attractive package together to make anything happen.}

30 Dec 2015 12:52:32
When Martinez took over I seem to remember lots of posters on here saying the would much rather watch his teams play attacking football and lose 4-3 than watch the Moyes style of go 1 up then bore everyone to death hoping for at least a draw, It would appear they were either lying or have changed their mind.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 Dec 2015 13:43:01
Agree. Think the problem with most is the disappointment that we are loseing when domminating games whilst top sides are playing poor and we should be higher placed
I love the football we play but also would like to be picking wins along the way. no one knows the reason why some players are playing and others not. Hopefully if takeover happens things will get sorted.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 13:45:34
People change there mind mate it's allowed, we had 11 years of Moyes and Martinez was a breath of fresh air and the exciting football was great but we can't defend we are bloody awful at the back no organisation no one talking 6s and 7s. His team selections are sometimes puzzling Naismith was in cracking form got a little injury and then could not get back into the team Howard is having stinkers and is still in the team. Mirallas confidence is gone wants away Stones is playing average midfield don't know how track back when they go forward the whole thing is a mess. People keep saying to me how the hell are Everton not up there in the top 4 with that squad and the answer is plain and simple it's the manager the buck stops with him. Moyes I would take back tomorrow he never had a squad like this when he was with us yes funny it seems but we would be right up there now he knew how to see games out Martinez is young and Everton is too big a club for him he needs to practice his ideas elsewhere maybe 5 years time he will learn the errors of his way but sorry we can't wait that long.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 13:50:26
As someone who said I'd rather watch exciting Football, I can not remember anyone saying they'd rather lose every game 4-3 then win 1-0, that means relegation with no points, you've either misinterpreted what people apparently said or they are weirdos.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 14:26:49
I remember it exactly as Ricktee says Swan. When I suggested that we had lost a very good manager, I received some quite nasty posts from some people that questioned whether I was fit to be Blue. I suggested that RM had a lot to follow and Moyes had done a wonderful job. I agreed that he said some disrespectful things that he may later regret but he had done a sterling job in turning our club round from bottom 5 to top 6. I remember a few people suggesteding that they would rather see us giving it a go and losing 4-3 than grinding out 1 nil wins and nil nil draws. My memory is not so good but I think you were one of them giving me a hard time?

30 Dec 2015 17:15:44
Sorry degsy I'm not biting.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 17:15:47
IMO DM was a solid manager that made us hard to beat, was a great servant of the club who unfortunately left under a bit of a cloud. RM is a completely different type of manager who prefers to play expansive football. If he could get the defensive side of his game sorted then we would probably be much higher up the table. IMO we really miss Jags, we have quite a youthful back 4 with no real leader.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 17:16:50
Well put. Moyes doesn't get the credit for stablizing a sinking ship and taking them forward. Agree it was time to change, RM has signed some good young players that could gel as a good team if we can keep this squad and add to it. back in the 80s when gordon lee left we had a good but average squad, HK took 3 years to create a team formula that we thought would rule europe. got to see if with experience in defence returning wether same can happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 22:44:39

Loic Remy, anyone. Expected to move in January. Would prefer him to partner Rom than the limp threat that is Kone, at least he knows where the net is.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

30 Dec 2015 11:02:06
So in his press conference he basically said naismith is going and mirallas isnt.
He also said every players position is under threat as the squad is so strong but. howard brings great experience and to blame him for goals would be wrong as its the whole team.
He was also pleased with the stoke game at how we took the lead. is he for real?
We let in 4 at home to stoke.

30 Dec 2015 09:55:30
Martinez blames the referee for awarding Stoke the last minute penalty as the reason Everton lost the game. He didn't add who was to blame for giving away the 3-2 lead that Everton had earlier. He is expert at covering his own backside, blame anyone else but himself.

It's a foolish decision if he let's Naismith leave.

All the pundits, fans etc can see he is turning Everton into another Wigan. In Wigans case it was too late to save and think they were obsessed with the cup run. History can repeat itself.

The sooner he goes the better. His continued selection of Howard is baffling. It is no use wanting to get into Europe competition as we can't keep clean sheets, so with away goals count we would be out before got started.
Howard while being a good servant for the club, his current form makes Richard Wright look good.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

30 Dec 2015 09:48:23
Listening to the pre Spurs press conference, Martinez stated that Howard's value is his experience in such an inexperienced back 4 (I'm paraphrasing of course as RM's answers are far longer than that) .

I think RM cops some unfair stick at times, but I just can't see the 'experience' benefit making up for Howard's individual performances. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a strong player involvement in the selection of Howard over Joel (eg Jags/ Baines) . Either way though, Martinez has to live and die by his decisions and the Howard saga is not doing him any favours.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

30 Dec 2015 12:01:24
It would appear that anyone who questions his decisions gets blanked out the team, and as we don't appear to have any leaders on the pitch, can't see why anyone of them would open up off it.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 09:00:49
Absolutely disgraceful if we let a goalscoring mid like Naismith go. It should be Martinez leaving.

{Ed025's Note - some team is going to get a good player there BKK..

30 Dec 2015 09:34:52
Probably the most effective free transfer we've had in years, never stops fighting and is as reliable a goalscorer as they come, 8m is a bargain for any team.

30 Dec 2015 10:45:35
When he first arrived most people on here where giving out he was crap and not for to wear the jersey was constantly booed as well if my memory serves me right.

{Ed002's Note - Regardless of what people say I understand that Norwich and Everton have agreed in principle to the transfer of Steven Naismith. Sunderland are also interested in the player.}

30 Dec 2015 11:48:30
Swap for Robbie Brady would solve left side position and leave Kone on bench.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 12:04:17
Swan surely one of the reasons he is going is because he's not a reliable goal scorer. Nice bloke but not good enough. Still I suppose you could say that about a lot of them right now.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 18:37:18
I'm with rainman. If naismith has to go brady has lots of ability . He can play at the back in midfield, closes down and has fantastic counter attacking pace. i'd imaging norwich would tell us to piss off.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 08:47:16
Everyone knows my posts over the years and how I have wound certain people up (unintentially in the main) . I have harped on about 2 things. Leon Osman and lack of goalscorers. In Osmans case, I now accept he is past it and I have to say we are worse off without him and his average 6 or 7 goals a season. We brought in Barry, McCarthy, Besic and Cleverly. Each average 1 goal per season. We also signed McGeady.1 performance per season? I just read that Naisy is off to Norwich? Is the manager a baffoon? Next Mirralas will be off. That is another 2 player who average 6 or 7 goals a season minimum when playing. Of course we do have Lukaku who averages over 20 per season so we are ok for now. what happens when Utd want him? He is a loyal Blue so will stay right? Or if he loses form? Or gets injured. I said it 3 years ago ang got slated for it! I am repeating myself (yet again) but now people are agreeing with me. We are signing technically adequate footballers who do not know how to put the ball in the net. IT WILL COME BACK TO HAUNT US! Mr angry signing off!

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - i will be sorry to see naisy go degs, good player and fantastic human being who deserved more of a chance imo, roberto does have his favourites and i cant see what kone offers that naisy does not myself mate..

30 Dec 2015 09:27:30
The guy is a legend Ed. But also a footballer who has that uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time. with the ability to head better than any other player in our squad. and put the ball over the line. I predict that by next season Roberto M will have us playing games where we have 80% possession and the other team gets the ball off us for 2 minutes and bang we are a goal down. oh sorry, he has already done that bit!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if he was played in the correct position and was given a prolonged run in the side to gel with rom, then im sure he would be a fine asset mate..

30 Dec 2015 09:28:51
Oh Naismith has bad games because he plays him left wing or anywhere except up with Lukaku.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

30 Dec 2015 09:42:42
It's all ifs and buts. If we get a result against Spurs and beat City over two legs all will be rosy again. If we don't and team selections continue as they are the recent anti Martinez posts will be nothing to what will follow.
Also the likely loss of decent players this window and players like Lukaku who deserve European football possibly moving on in the Summer
Time will tell. All the best for 2016 Swan. Keep sitting on the fence.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 12:10:38
We are fortunate that there are many poor teams in this league, and that is why we survive. The sad thing about this team is that with better management they could have done something this season. The league was there to be won. Can see us going out of both cups and finishing about 12th. All because we concede too many goals.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 02:39:30
Martiez my have a nice warm persona, one that plays well with the media, trouble is, he can talk the talk, but he cannot walk the walk, nearly 3 years with us, and 3 years with wigan surly prove that, the man talks a good game, but, that is all you get. In the end, we may have to wait for new owner to get rid of this fraud, and if it's the yanks, I believe they will see though his bull s. t in five minutes.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 Dec 2015 08:53:56
He has also started making excuses when before he has not. Once a Manager starts making excuses and complaints then that is a sure sign, time for him to go, he is not even a good Manager in the first place. Bill may be a loyal and true Evertonian and Moyes appointment was a huge plus but Bills other moves (Elstone as CEO (cocked up Kirkby and Walton Park and should not be allowed anywhere near negotiations for takeover) and then this Bull artist as Manager) have done nothing to move us forward and in fact as we can all see now, actually moving us backwards.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 00:54:38
Just had a look at the table and I'm quite shocked at the amount of goals we have shipped already this season. 28 conceded shows us all, maybe not so much our manager, that changes are needed at the back in regards to both personnel and tactics.
In comparison to recent years, this stat doesn't instil me with great confidence.
2012/ 13 - 55 for, 40 against, +15 GD.
2013/ 14 - 61 F, 39 A, +22 GD
2014/ 15 - 48 F, 50 A, -2 GD
2015/ 16 - 35 F, 28 A, +7 GD
Out of the 35 we have scored, 15 of them belong to Rom, proving the obvious that we rely on him big time. 6 other goals came to two other players in separate games when Naisy and Kone bagged hat-tricks. An injury or loss of form to RL and we are screwed, not that this is news to any of us.
It would be stupid to let Naismith go in this window for the reason just stated. If we have to rely on Kone then we will be in trouble as his goal return is not great and he seems low on confidence in front of goal. Add that to the fact that we concede too many a game meaning we have to score in each match just to get a draw! Something needs to give but it needs to happen soon. Our goals against is too high for a team with European aspirations. If RM can't see this himself then somebody needs to tell him and sharpish. Lose a player such as Rom come the summer and next season we will be falling quicker than Villa.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Dec 2015 08:30:22
Kone has been coached under Martinez and god knows what he says to the strikers. I watched Kone from Bullens on Monday, the bloke gets into the area and just will not shoot. This is not the wild west, you do not need to see the whites of their eyes. Big Dunc was one of the best hold up and bullying strikers around and you can see his influence on Lukaku is obvious. If I was Martinez I would have Duncan concentrate on Kone. By the way Duncan my man, saw you trying to sprint in the warm up on Monday, don't bother mate, save your strength, going to be a rough ride the rest of this season.

30 Dec 2015 00:34:45
After watching the Stoke game the other day I am baffled trying to figure out just exactly what Everton players actually work on in everyday training at Finch Farm? The modern game is very much about Tactics and the technical side of play. it takes nearly 10/ 15 mins before a substitute enters the field of play as he has to look/ listen to instructions from the "Club iPad"! Martinez is a stickler for stats etc so can he please explain why we must most certainly have the worst stats record for shots on goal. every game. home and away. Our players just don't or won't shoot from outside the area etc. goalkeepers are never tested inside the first 20 mins or so. The "Barcelona style Overplay" is becoming intolerable and borders on embarrassing, and teams now know exactly what to expect from Everton.
John Stones is one of the best centre Backs in world football and will get better, but the Chelsea episode and what the media have been printing about him has gone to his head, and he needs to get back to basics. defending! We have heard the agent of Lukaku trying to sell him all over the world and Lukaku himself doing the business in brilliant style but stating that he wants to "win trophies"? Ross Barkley is blossoming into the type of player we know he can be, but he needs to be a lot more consistent and be more greedy around the area and shoot more. In terms of England he will be in danger of being overlooked in favour of Deli Alli of Spurs who is turning into a cracker of a midfielder. Players like Lukaku and Stones should get their heads down and make it their business to win Trophys with Everton. because if they and others in this team apply themselves a bit better and start believing more then we will have ourselves a very good team capable of challenging for titles etc. not just being satisfied with aiming for the Top 4. But I would like Martinez to stop trying to get our players to play as Barcelona do? We have Barkley, Lukaku, Stones and McCarthy. we don't have Messi, Neymar, Iniesta, Suarez or Rakatic. The idea of playing that style of football is admirable but we are very guilty at the moment of far too much Overplay both up front and at the back, and we need to eradicate it immediately or we will lose many more games than we will win. Delafeu needs to stop the diving and also learn to take a tackle. and tackle back, he is now becoming very predictable. If it is true about Naismith joining Norwich then I hope we have a top class replacement lined up because Kone has had far too many chances and the loyalty Martinez shows him has worn thin. We need a goalscoring foil for Lukaku. let's hope this takeover goes through and its all for the good of our Great Club. I would like to wish All my fellow Everton Fans a very Happy and Healthy New Year . COYB.

Sorry I'm confused, get their heads down? Rom is dragging us through games by himself, he and the others have ambitions, ambitions they can not reach at Everton. They cannot apply themselves any more, it's the manager and Goalkeeper that are ruining this team, Dele Ali is miles better than Barkley.

30 Dec 2015 08:37:08
We have a young back line that needs an experienced head in there (Howard has become hesitant and for a goalkeeper reactions slowing) so hopefully Jags will be back. I would also play him with Funes because at the moment he is better than Stones who faffes about to much. Also notice when Funes first started playing he was the epitome of what a good central defender should be, you know the old adage of if in doubt hoof it out (of the danger area) , but since Martinez has worked on him, he also is playing about with the ball instead of making a decision.
