As regards the clear out. The squad may be imbalanced but it's also inflated. If Coleman and Garbutt play tomorrow, they will be the 37th and 38th player we have used this season. While about 8 of them are youngsters, the rest are players who are hoping to play every week.

How can you say as a manager "keep your head down and play well in training and you'll get a chance" but also maintain a settled regular team? You can't which is why players keep missing a few games and then starting for no apparent reason.

I believe that part of the reason that Moyes did well is that because of the small budget, we had a small, tight knit squad. While we despaired at some of his favourites playing over younger, more exciting players, you could certainly say that the players knew each other so well that some of them (e. g. Baines and Pienaar) were almost telepathic.

In order to build a sense of team and make this random bunch of players work well together, the squad needs to be trimmed.

As regards tomorrow, fingers crossed for a Schneiderlin exit so we can play someone in that position who actually looks like he wants to wear the blue shirt.

Part of the reason Moyes was more successful, was also because he signed better players overall. Yes a few didn't make it, but overall he was pretty astute. Says it all that Jags, Baines and when fit Coleman are still regulars 10+ years on. And when out injured. look how poor we look. Martinez gets credit for some of the kids he signed, but how many would be playing if Jags, Baines and Coleman were fit? Martinez's kids are stop gaps at best. maybe for the future. but not yet.

dont get why every one is slating schneiderlin yes he is in poor form but so is the whole team even if he was playing at his best every game would it really make much difference to the result of each game in my opinion SA is the wrong man for the job we should of stuck with martinez.

Schneiderlin attitude is in question as well as his form. Not a good thing for a footballer.
If he was running his heart out even though he was out of form he might get more sympathy.
Both Klassen and Sandro, even though out of form have run their hearts out When they have been on the pitch.

Schneiderlin needs dropping, even with all his youthful faults Davies is a much better option.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 07:52:45
I really like Davies. but you can see he needs to learn and adapt and cannot put a run of consistent games together. His goal and play against Man City last year showed what he can do. but he has been quite terrible in other games since. Giving the ball away, out of position, confidence draining. typical kid with great ability but with too much expectation from fans.

I'm happy with window. I don't think we need anything else. Everyone crying out for Garbutt and now wanting another left back. I personally don't think garbutt is good enough but he has perfect opportunity to grab a place. We have Kenny hollgate and Keane all young - mori coming back too. Jags and Williams as back up.

Midfield needs a clear out but we have more than enough. Hopefully lookman gets more of a game. Gueye bollasie Davies sigurtson - plus Dowell will be one to come through I'm sure

Add Walcott, DCL, Rooney + guy from anderlecht and Tolson up front - we are sorted

Personally it's more about who goes rather than new signings - for me Martina, Robles, besic, Galloway, Browning, jmac, naisse, Klassen, Sandro, all need to go to get a more settled squad (although Klassen Sandro naisse have not been treated the best by EFC)

I agree it’s pointless bringing a LB in as a knee jerk buy as we’ll just end up with yet another squad player. We’d be better off waiting for the summer to identify a permanent replacement for Bains.

30 Jan 2018 21:39:28
Meanwhile we allow our left flank to be targetted and over-run every game. With the greatest respect some of you need a reality check. We are in a relegation struggle 'now' not in the summer. I am just watching Crystal Palace - WHU playing each other and playing football that up until now we cannot replicate in a month of Sundays and both now chomping on our heels. Until Schneiderlin finds his form - constantly picking him is eroding his confidence - we need someone now to sit in that little circle in front of Gueye and dictate play (for me Rooney) . We need someone (surely Garbutt would at least have the pace) at LB. This is not pessimism but downright reality, 7 games without a win is not awe inspiring.

So we go and buy what? If your happy with Garbutt. We’ve got x2 new forwards. So yet more midfielders? We need to reduce the numbers and trust in the players manager wants and get them playing properly.

30 Jan 2018 22:30:29
It's not our job to identify a left-back, that is what Walsh is paid big bucks to do. We have needed a back up/ replacement for Baines for two years and to find ourselves using a player that could not get into the Southhampton team out of position is just not acceptable.

Trust has to be earned, and the players (most) , manager and DOF don't deserve trust at the minute. Near enough every team below us are on the up and we're in freefall. Ok if we win two games the oblivious blues will say 'What was all the worry about'? But at the moment we are awful. Even the likes of Newport are giving a better account of themselves, giving Spurs ago and creating more chances. This is no joke now, the lot of them need to stand up and be counted.

Apparently Marhez put in a transfer request and isn’t in the squad tomorrow night’s match. It’s a huge let off if true; I couldn’t stand the thought of him running at Martina for 90 minutes.

mahrez hands in transfer request, which means he is not playing tomorrow, bonus.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2018 04:57:08
Its a bonus but don't count your chickens, Demari Grey, Okasaki, Vardy and co could easily dismantle us. I dread going to each game more than the previous one mate.

Napoli Interested in klassen. Good for him to get game time but hope it's a loan not sale as I think he could be good for our future.

{Ed025's Note - if he does go you can bet your life he will hit the ground running and be their star man geoff..

30 Jan 2018 18:08:08
Probably ed. Think he'll be a star for them with mertens, hamsik, etc.

You just don't become a bad player overnight, I feel sorry for him because realistically he should be starting if Sigs is being played out of position on the left, that way he can be judged on his actual position or even ahead of Schneids as a box to box midfielder.
The Rooney deal was wrong when we had Davy already signed up and we were pursuing Sigs, surely that should have been enough for the No 10 role.

Technical player in a technical league? He will definitely perform on the continent. Think it defeats the point of "game time" of he goes abroad. Needs to play in the Prem otherwise I'd bet he won't come back. Shame as I was looking forward to a bit of class in our midfield. Good luck to the guy.

Looking at the league table, there are a lot of teams down there that are playing well at the moment and can see them climbing the table. Hopefully we get the points on the board asap. My bottom 3 come the end of season is.
Stoke
Brighton
Huddersfield.

{Ed025's Note - the next few games are crucial robbie, we need four points at least but to be honest it looks like it could be a tall order mate..

30 Jan 2018 19:21:39
Leicester are flying, we are not and the positions that we need strengthening are/ have been needlessly neglected once again this Window. I know we are mere supporters and not privy to the why's and wherefore's behind closed doors but surely over 70 percent cannot be wrong on analysis of where the Squad are going wrong. Martina since he arrived was bearly worth his place at RB and at LB well! You all see for yourselves. Schneiderlin I contend was not the player he was at Southampton even in his first season with us. This Season his timing in the tackle (when he can be bothered) is way off, he cannot turn, he cannot pass accurately so as a consequence he gets rid as soon as possible either sideways or backwards. If those two play tomorrow night, we will be over-run. Don't normally have a drink mid week, but tomorrow I shall fortify myself before entering my beloved Ground and either commiserate or celebrate afterwards, in either case, I have been told to sleep in a spare room.

Can't see anything good coming out of the game tomorrow night with Leicesters pace and power. Hope I'm proven wrong though and just wish there will be news of a positive incoming otherwise Goodisons going to be toxic like it has been most of the season.

I was at the Newport v Spurs cup game on Saturday. Sat near Mr Ryan Giggs. He was impressed with how Newport took the game to Spurs. I just hope Allardyce and his team watched it too as he might have got a lesson. Quite honestly Newport played better than I have seen us play most of the season. At times they went through Spurs midfield like a knife through butter, good passes to the wide men, and great crosses in. Why oh why can we not do that?

31 Jan 2018 05:05:40
Just posted a similar reply to someone elses comment, using Newport as an example. It's bewildering how they can give Spurs a game and we lose 7-0 on aggregate in the league with barely a shot on target or an ounce of passion shown mate.

reading between the lines by telling West ham Schniderlin isn't for sale it means the players we would like to bring in to replace him are not available.

It could mean other things too Bluey. Sam has Schneiderlin as a starter in his squads, now i know we think he is awful but, should we make a loss on him considering he starts week in/ week out (amazingly) . Tough question.
We have an awful lot of midfielders in the squad and maybe the likes of Besic should be sold along with loaning 1 or 2.
I'm not sure big sam is going to be here or not next season so maybe the board are thinking, if we bring someone else in, will they get a tune out of these players?
Unless we go out and buy premiership players in the summer we may just end up shipping a load out but filling their place with worse and blowing a load more money.
Its going to be an interesting 24 hours.

I wouldn't hold your breath about anyone coming in, I think 50 million on 2 players is a good window.
