Good to see tomorrow marks the start of the new inquest into Hillsborough, hope those responsible finally get brought to justice.

{Ed025's Note - im with you 100% there oli, and as much as i love the rivalry, this is something that transcends that mate..

Oli I hope so, but I still have a concern that the South Yorkshire police will protect themselves. The truth will be probably never be brought to light in the way it should. Too many officers have been nobbled over the years and the truly guilty ones will still hide behind their uniforms and pensions. Shame on them.

Great result today! Just waiting to watch it on motd now. Just read an interesting article on ssn called the Martinez effect. Worth a readOne point raised was that last season Barkley was the only player under the age of 21 to start a game! Is that right Blue statto's? We had 4 under 21's start today!

Great win and we're right in the mix, just one concern.
Where's Jags? He wasn't even on the bench although he travelled down with the team.
Bit strange this one or am I reading too much into this?
Thought at least last ten minutes off the bench.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have no idea why he wasn't on the bench, but I wouldn't read into it too much. I expect him to start against arsenal

C.O.Y.B!! That was a good 2nd half showing there by the boys. gives us momentum going into the game against the Arse next weekend!! As I mentioned on this site last night folks, anything is possible with Martinez at the helm & we might just nick 4th spot you know! :-D

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed why can I only get through on a reply, but not when I do my own post. I am logged in every time and there is nothing offensive.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I can only see one post from about an hour ago - you will have to look around to see where it is posted, but I don't see any reason for an Ed deleting it.}

Poor 1st half, I taught our 3 oldest players were well of there game today coincidence don't think so. Distin and Osman were sluggish and dithery and Barry had a total mare. Maybe 2 games in a week is to much for these guys this late in the season. The subs made the difference today. Naismith was outstanding, changed the game, scored 1, played a big part in another, played 1 superb pass to Baines, hit the post with a great shot, maybe should have scored another when put through by Lukaku. McAidey put Miralles through for the second goal, with a good ball and a great control and finish. I think J.Stones was unbelievable best player on the pitch, Jags should be worried. A lot of credit has to go to our manager Roberto made the right changes at the right times. I believe under Moyes we would not have won that game today, he would have went negative to hold out for a point. Good second half display. We need to make Goodison daunting for the gooners next week, with a full weeks rest I exspect a much improved performance and with Gods will a win. So let's be having you Arsenal, COYB.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are not signed in Dero - and that accounts for the earlier post being deleted. It is like a bad part of the apple, needs to be cut out, shredded, set on fire and eaten.}

Was thinking yesterday would you rather 1) us get champions league and rs win the league or 2) us get Europa and Liverpool not win the league? Worth a poll ed? Would probably go 1 myself though the thought of them winning the league is horrific

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - I would rather us get relegated than them lot win the league clarkey :)

I'd rather us get in the champions league and I don't give a crap about what the red side do to be honest. Neither should anyone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry ed but if finishing 4th means liverpool winning the league or anything else for that matter then so be it, champions league football could be the start of success for us so coyb!

Agree0 Disagree0

Option 1 is looking more and more likely by the week.

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand how so many Evertonians feel about any success by the lot across the park, but to prefer us missing out on CL football if it meant them not winning is crazy in my opinion. If we could get into the CL group stage it'd be such a boost - financially and for our club's standing and for our ability to attract (and retain) quality players - that I don't really care what other clubs do. Let's concentrate on our club being successful and give maximum support to the team in our remaining fixtures this season. Then look forward to an even better season next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2014 22:06:01
It's a shame you guys feel like that, as a liverpool supporter I would absolutely love you guys to get CL football and have merseyside dominating the EPL. Came on here to wish you luck for the rest of the season, and congratulate you on how well you guys have done so far. And Ed I'm really shocked you made that statement, how can you hate another team more than you love your own? First and foremost you should support the interests of your own club, no matter what other teams are doing. Killed me to support united last week vs City, but if it benefits LFC. cheers guys

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - look mate, a lot of my friends are reds, and i like norway as much as the next guy, but this is the real world, you would love to rub our noses in it if you won the prem, and vice versa if the shoe was on the other foot, so dont give me that "merseyside merseyside" crap, its healthy rivalry, and alls fair in love and war and all that, you would delight in our failure just as much as we would yours...so come on citeh..

30 Mar 2014 23:38:33
What's 'healthy rivalry' about cutting your nose off to spite your face?! And thanks for tarring us all with the same brush, I think you'll find many of us want you guys in the top 4, despite the rivalry

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think I would rather be hated than have to be part of the current vomit-inducing 'healthy rivalry' love-in between LFC and Arsenal going on over on their sites. I can see some windy walks, dancing through the heather together and slow motion leave kicking sessions on the horizon there. It's a banter site, not a lonely hearts dating site, if you want a pat on the head go and phone your mam, I'm sure she'll tell you how super smashing great you are.}

31 Mar 2014 08:24:41
What? You can still have a rivalry and give credit where it's due! It's called 'growing up'

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Really, what next, poxy Arsenal/Liverpool half and half scarves?}

Great post Ed. I've been saying this all season about the brown nosing that's been going on between Arsenal and Liverpool. You're right it's become something of a dating agency between them. All this "if we can't win then hope that you do" is vomit inducing.
Next week is now a massive game for us. I also hope that we start with the team that finished yesterday as the 1st half was poor but the 2nd magnificent.
COYB

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I wonder what would have happened if Suarez got his way and moved to Arsenal last summer?}

Super, you are fighting a losing battle here man. The bitters will always be bitter and never want us to do well, despite what it meant for us. I have many friends who are Evertonians and believe me, I haven't heard the end of the "Finishing about the RS trophy" they have won in recent years. So IF we do the impossible, they will NEVER hear the end of it. Football isn't supposed to be all nicey nicey, a rivalry is supposed to be intense.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you there sgt..

That's what I feel. If the Gods are against us and we don't finish 4th, then so be it. Maybe it was never meant to be. But whilst we've still got a shout let's push for it and Goodison will be rocking next weekend.
With regard to the RS, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to see them implode at the death. We'd never hear the end of it. Champions in this country, champions in Europe next season. Ed007 is sot on. There is a natural rivalry between our clubs and Merseyside Utd will never happen, hence the reason for the hostility at the suggestion of ground sharing. Let the 'love in' between the RS and Gooners continue. Valentine's Day might have passed last month but it's April Fool's Day tomorrow.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - nice one davey..

If Suarez got his way and moved to arsenal they would be on the way to winning the league like us. Peeeeeeoooowwwnnnn

{Ed025's Note - oh how i hope that statement comes back to bite you on the arse phil...its not a done deal yet mate!

Well boys and girls. We are where we wanted to be 2 weeks ago. Have the bottle to carry on? TOO RIGHT! Arse up next, sold out. Make a hell of noise will you?! 7 to go, 21 points that a potential of 81max with an optimisic 75 in reach. COYB. Lov Ya!

well done steven Naismith, il be first to say that I was hypa critical of his performances last season and deservedily so I thought but its clear a passing game suits him because when the space is in behind he reads it well, also thought mcgeady had an impact starting to look sharp the last few games, similar to Swansea I think the performance wasn't the best but the result is the main thing, let's see how depressing swan will make everyone because i'm sure it will happen, Martinez said a few additions this squad could challenge 4th at the start of the season so to be there at the business end is fantastic

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Naismith didn't deserve any of the criticism he got last season. He was made a scapegoat for our negative managers negative tactics. He was made to play out of position and never did anything wrong. Fans just didn't take to him because he was Scottish and came from the SPL. Now he plays a central position and Ta-Dar, he looks a menace and has done all season. The same people were moaning about the signing of McGeady, saying he only did it in the SPL. Well he came off the bench and played a vital hand in our win today. Another one is John Stones, who also has had ridiculous criticism on here. No matter he's only a kid and was always going to need time. Well I'll say this now, I havnt seen a ball playing centre back like him in the blue shirt in the PL era. Once this lad perfects the art of defending he will be the complete centre back. Nice to see these players proving their doubters wrong. Today's result was great, but the performance first half was poor. We can't do that against Arsenal. If we keep the momentum we had in the 2nd half we can do them tho. How anyone can be a doom merchant at a time like this I'll never know. Best season in my shortish lifetime. Every game is a pleasure, even the ones we lose, because we have a manager who will always try to win the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Decent post Oli.

Agree0 Disagree0

He started the season on the right wing so he clear thinks he can play there, so you think he played well last year?, he would say himself he was poor lack of first touch and confidence (even when scoring) he look petrified coming off the bench in games, to say it was becsause he was Scottish was the reason is borderline pathetic we have a tradition of Scottish staff coming threw our club and we stand by any one off them, if you think every player deserves no critiscism no matter how they perform your wrong they can under perform and there's nothing wrong with people pointing out obvious weaknesses like stones needed a couple of years to build his strength up to be more consistant the whole worlds no made of kittens and smells of diasys

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if the oracle of all footballing knowledge thinks it's borderline pathetic. Haha I'm referring to the countless times I read people saying: 'he scored goals in the SPL, that micky mouse league' usually followed by 'he won't hack it in the prem'. Using the non argument that he came from Scotland as an excuse to write him off. Look at yourself, with your petrified and poor first touch blah blah comment. Did that come as a surprise? Were you expecting Lionel Messi V2.0? I guess the word adaptation got lost in your wash. It takes time for a player from the SPL to adapt to the pace of the Prem. Which is why people like you slating him last season obviously took an obtuse view. He's not some 40m world beater, but he's not the Championship player a lot thought he was. If he was 4 years into a 5 year deal then fair enough, but his first season? As for kittens and daisies, I have no idea what your on about. I criticise players for poor performances all the time. Difference is I don't demand they get expelled from the club as a result.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not mate you said people were having a go at him because he was Scottish and from the spl, can you please explain to me what a non argument is exactly haha, I suggest that being a footballer anywere in the world the basics are what you would expect, also to use a the cliché of it takes time to adapt when he came from a league up the road is daft, I don't know anyone who has done the same thing for 20 years then moves a 100 miles and forgots, no one expected messi and didn't expect titus bramble though either, he was awful last year he's been better this year get over yourself. The daisys and kittens stuff was because you seem to have an issue with negativity, but sometimes people aren't always good

Agree0 Disagree0

Again I dunno what your even trying to say. Your goldfish memory forgets that he joined us having just returned from a cruciate ligament injury. I suppose in cloud cuckoo land players just comeback from those and are on top form straight away. I can't imagine in his 20 years playing the game before that he had to worry about where he planted his leg for fear it might end up at a right angle. And he wasn't awful last year, another thing your good at, exaggeration.

Agree0 Disagree0

Naismiths problem last season was probably a fear of doing his ligament in again, plus he is suited to a on the floor passing game.his movement off the ball is excellent in getting behind defenders.how many 5ft 8inch players do you know who thrive off long hoofs up field?? Not many.he is an important team member whether starting or as a sub.he has confidence now unlike last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

OK so go back to the injury to settle the argument, if he's fit he can play, if he's not ready mentally then wait till he is, he was still getting goals here and there so he can't of been to bad, I'm made up his firm has picked up and at no point would I have sold him, I guess you were saying last year he will come good so stick with him because by the sounds of it your an oracle yourself

just a question. who thinks osman should be on the plane to brazil.thought he was outstanding today.he had the lot pace, power, nice watch.mom well done ozzy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For the first time in a long time I'm actually going to criticise Ozzy for today's game. Thought he was a yard off the pace and gave the ball away a lot. When he went off we came alive. I love Ozzy, but plane to Brazil? Not for me mate. Still think he belongs in our squad and will play a part next season but the volume of misplaced passes is ever increasing and if you do that against quality opposition you will get punished.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oli, I have posted a few times with regard to ozzy and got shot down for my thoughts. he should be at the very best a sub.he should be no were near a starter.he now offers nothing.and today he was bad. when he was subed we looked a lot more lively.as for being our captain I think its, s because he is just the most senior pro at the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we play two "free spirits" like Barkley and Deulofeu, then I think we need to have a Pienaar or Osman as the other player in the three behind the centre forward. That can be changed during the match - as it was today - in order to deal with different situations (like needing a goal), but in my opinion we need that experience we get from Pienaar or Osman at the beginning of most matches.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good arguments for both sides. I'm not sure where I stand really. Agree with everything you say Richie but then I see where your coming from too Gabriel. What I do know is nothing annoys me more than when the ball is given away cheaply, and Ozzy is a bit of a sinner in that department. But I believe after today Ozzy as skip has played 14 won 12 lost 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2014 15:24:57
Naisy was brilliant but for me the catalyst was mcgeady direct fast tricky changed the whole mood of the team, always looks for a pass not always the right one but still does,

Pleased we own and bring on the arse! Coyb!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Two of the doom-mongers' usual whipping boys - Naismith and McGeady - were very good today. Could it be that RM knew what he was doing by keeping Naismith at the club and bringing in McGeady in January - just like he knew a good player by bringing in Barry and McCarthy at the start of the season despite criticisms from some supporters? Does anyone still doubt that RM has been a breath of fresh air and is bringing good things to Everton?

Agree0 Disagree0

I knew as soon as I watched us trying to play this new possession based style against Real Madrid in that pre season cup and give them a dam good game that Martinez was the man for us. Like you say, breath of fresh air. Anything is possible with him in charge. Bill deserves a lot of credit for his appointment. He knows his football and more importantly he can spot character. With Martinez we are in the rarified atmosphere of having both.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2014 15:19:23
Stones brilliant Naismith even better two who have had a bit of stick on here

Believable0 Unbelievable0

John Stones is a class act. He will take time to develop his defensive game but when it comes to playing the ball and bringing it out from the back he is immense. A few more years development we are looking at an England stalwart. I cringed when today's commentator referred to him as a right back playing out of position. I'd keep him as far away from that position as possible, he's a centre back and deserves a lot of credit for today's performance.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree oli, anyway we already have the best right back in the league

Agree0 Disagree0

The TV commentator's remark about Stones being a right back playing out of position at centre back - despite both RM and DM having said he'll be a centre back in the longer term - just shows how ill-formed and out of touch most media people are. Besides, the TV commentator in question was, I believe, Alan Parry who's a well known red!

Haha good point Gabriel! Says it all!

Hope we can play better second half!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Mar 2014 11:06:05
All this talk of 4th place is great, but it's surely one step at a time - first we really must win at Fulham (playing well and improving our goal difference would be nice) and then move on to the "six-pointer" at home to Arsenal. After that is when I think we'll know if we're genuine contenders for a Champions League qualification spot - but it'll still be "take one game at a time" from then to the end of the season with difficult matches all along the way.
I don't doubt that our players are technically and tactically good enough to challenge, but I wonder if they've got the mentality to deal with the pressure of what is for almost all of them uncharted territory. Whatever happens this season, the experience ought to put our players in a better position for next season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Three points gained today despite a very poor first half and some defensive scrambles. Stones was good bringing the ball out of defence and Naismith was excellent and worthy of the man of the match award.
Now move on and get a victory at home to Arsenal.

Just wondering what forwards people would want? I think it's either going to be Bony or Lukaku as the big one with one of Ings, Remy or Batashayui. Which 2 strikers would you want to see at Everton?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am really torn between Bony and Lukaku, I think that Bony would be the better signing for now, but Lukaku has the potential to be a far better player in the future, and has more resale value due to his age. Either way they would both cost £15-25m and there's no guarantee that either one would want to join us over other clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should go for either bony or remy and batshuayi

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku and remy would be incredible although probably unlikely

Agree0 Disagree0

There was a link on newsnow last night saying iff we can't get lukaku then we will try and bid around 10 mil for remy in the summer either one would be good and bony aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle, Shakhtar and Roma have an interest in Lukaku and it is very likely he will be moved on by Chelsea. If Everton were to be interested, I suspect that Chelsea would want Ross Barkley in return.}
