These are some exciting times ahead, when you look at the calibre of manager being linked with us it shows just how far we've come as a club in the past decade. The fact that we have 4-5 top quality candidates for the managers job indicates the direction we're going in. When Moyes left, managers like Martin O'neill and the like were realistic candidates, now we have real champions taking a serious interest in our club, not managers who could theoretically take us places, like Martinez.
The futures bright, the futures blue. Whoever is in charge next should be ready for challenge, I have the utmost faith in Mr Moshiri to make the right choice and the fact he's taking his time shows he is taking this very seriously.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 May 2016 23:06:20
We are a much worse team now than when Moyes left it is because we have Moshiri with money as yet we have not gone anywhere but down since Moyes left.
Are any of these fancy managers capable of building a club that is a mess? I hope so, but maybe we should walk before we run a we might trip up, be careful who you wish for.

Most football fans are dreamers, I was once but now in my sixties I am pragmatic so let's hope we get the right manager whoever he is.

30 May 2016 23:48:46
How are we a much worse team, our midfield when Moyes left consisted of Osman, Neville, Gibson, Hitzlesberger, Pienaar, Miralles.
Our forwards Jelavic, Anichebe, Fellaini, Naismith.
If you think that is better than what we have now then there is no hope!

Totally agree with sidutton we are a far more attractive club to managers regardless of money. We have a good young squad with a good group of youngsters coming through. It's getting boring now massaging his ego. He made us feel like we were punching above our weight when he was here and that gave a certain group of supporters the same mindset that what he achieved was deemed successful. He broke our transfer record 3 times in a row so he had money available. And in 11 years reached 1 league cup semi final an FA Cup final were he reverted to type by trying to hold on to a 1 goal lead for a full 90 minutes. And 1 semi final were by we were beaten by our neighbours again because of the negative tactic of trying to defend a 1 goal lead. Yes I am grateful for the stability he brought when he first came but to even consider him now would be a backward step and a bad mistake. The boos he got on Sin day at the fight makes me realise I am not alone and there are a lot more against than there is for him. We are Everton and we have an opportunity here to bring in a man for the future and leave gollum in the past.

Agree1 Disagree1

31 May 2016 07:57:33
I have said this a thousanf times. This squad is much inferior to the one Moyes left us with. This is because of 3 factors:
1. It is ageing and yes there are some youngsters coming through but the overall group of players nearing their end is too many. Howard, Jags, Barry, Baines, Barry, Pienaar, Kone, Osman, Hibbert all need replacing now. Or at least have players ready to take over very soon. That is 9 players without the squad suffering any injuries. too many!
2. The midfield players that RM added do not score sufficient goals. Cleverly, Barry, McCarthy, Besic never score more than 2 a season each. That means we rely on moody Lukaku and Barkley for our goals. Mirallas can chip in but was never given a chance under RM so I suppose that could slightly improve under a new manager.
3. If the squad is so much better now, I have one question. Why have we slipped down the table so dramatically and been served up dross for football. People moan about the football Moyes served up. My girlfriend knows nothing about football but watched one game of ours this season and asked, "Why do Everton not get the ball towards the other goal? I thought that's what you are supposed to do? "

Agree1 Disagree0

31 May 2016 12:14:33
Well said Degsy, cannot understand why people think we have a better squad. RM said so but more brainwashing from him that people seem to believe.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 12:37:33
According to everyone we slipped down the league because Martinez tactics were wrong, he lost the dressing room, he played people out of position, take your pick.
As regards the older players I think Martinez plan was to promote 5 or 6 of the youth to replace them and buy 3 or 4 aswell.
If you take Garbutt, Davies, Dowell, The Swiss guy, Galloway, Pennington, Connolly bar the keeper you have pretty much replaced the older players you have mentioned.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 May 2016 20:09:59
I agree that RM lost the players and also that his tactics did not help. but to suggest that half a dozen unproven kids with less than a dozen 1st team appearances are the replacement for 9 1st team players who were internationals, goalscorers and experienced is naive to say the least. I would predict thaat maybe 2 or 3 of the kids will become 1st team players but as for goals I do not see where they will come from if Lukaku goes. I just see us struggling for goals and getting quality players to join a team that has been sliding down the table 2 years running. Stones is obviously a class act and worth money. I also think Mori was a good signing and also chips in with goals. particularly from set pieces. But as I have said many times, Osman and Pienaar were never replaced succesfully. Naismith seems to have been replaced at twice the cost with an unproven player who has a dodgy temperament. Mirallas has been demotivated and the other players RM signed were just not consistent enough. I know people say I am a doom monger, but the table does not lie and a new manager will have a hell of a job to stop the slide further. We need a very strong character and at least 4 or 5 quaality signings. some of whom need to score goals.

Some rumours coming out that David Dein may be coming onto the board at, I know he introduce Moshiri to Bill Kenwright, but I thought Dein was head of Red&White holdings which is the vehicle that hold usmanovs shares in Arsenal, which if that does happen he would leave Red&White holdings to take up the role, now either this is just something that is a coincidence or this is a bigger agenda that we thought, I would love to know your thoughts ed because I can't get my head around the fact that someone like usmanov would just let his closest friend and business partners leave him like that to join a rival team especially when usmanov with all his wealth to start a new era at a club that could rival in years to come.
Usmanov with all his money still has no say within Arsenal.

Don't really see the big appeal with Koeman. Not bad, but not great. Can you shed any light why most fans are begging for him to come? Still unsure on my number 1 though. Seems to change day by day. Haha.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i like koeman kingo, but like you keep changing my mind mate..

30 May 2016 23:23:55
Can get swayed myself but I think Koeman is solid. Impressed with how he has done with Southampton. Its that simple. Imho he'd be a good manager who would be ideal to stay with us for the long term. Particularly like the way the team and finishing place didn't suffer 2 seasons in a row after losing a fair few players.

Obviously knows how to get the best out of his players and is proven in the premier league. Main reason I'd prefer him over FDB. Emery would be good but again isn't proved in premiership. Pellegrini would be good but not convinced with defense.

I would be happy with all 4 but out of them Koeman would be my pick. Ideally I'd like Simeone but its just not going to happen. Koeman for me.

{Ed025's Note - love it avro..

30 May 2016 16:18:10
I have said many things in support of David Moyes over the last few years, yet I still do not really want him back as manager. The main reason for this is that he would split our supporters right down the middle and half don't want him back. Even ED025 says that would be the last straw and his support would then be finished. That actually disturbs me becaause all during RM's reign. from his appointment to sacking, I was against him being manager and when he signed Kone, Robles and Alcaraz my thoughts were confirmed. Robles to some degree has won me over, but I still think there are other better and younger goalkeepers out there for the taking. Back to the split support point. my support never wained under RM and I am surprised to hear long time supporters saying they will stop going should Moyes return. I understand that it may not be their 1st choice and that Moyes ddid say some disrespectful things, but he has to be an improvement on RM. Added to which, his top 6 achievements were based on having zero funds for players. All his signings were maade by balancing the books over 11 years. We actually maade 1 million profit over those 11 years wheras RM has left us with multi million debt and an ageing squad far inferior to the one Moyes left us with. Our last 2 league positions do not lie about the quality of the squad. Motivation may be part of the problemsand organisation/ tactics too? Again Moyes is very good at these skills.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - moyes would be a backward step degsy, yes he stabilized the club and on a shoestring budget but would you honestly trust him with big money?, his forte is to make his club hard to beat and that usually comes with dogs of war boring tactics and his teams offer no entertainment value at all, if you enjoy that tedious backs to the wall knife to a gunfight stuff then hes your man mate, i aspire to my club being better than that..

30 May 2016 18:15:48
Got to agree with Ed025, Moyes speciallises with bringing the best out of team that relies more on hard work and turns them into a team that are tough to beat but is missing that little bit extra when trying to compete with other big clubs that have a top manager.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 May 2016 18:34:26
This obsession with Moyes is now becoming a bit weird.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree ace..

30 May 2016 18:52:50
Also the squad Moyes left Martinez with was superior?!
No centre forward, no midfield, an aging centre half pairing in Distin and Jags and very little youth coming through as Kevin Sheedy posted, because he wasn't interested.
I think the squad thay Martinez has left the next manager is far better and there is youth coming through now.

30 May 2016 20:17:41
I'm with degs on this and for the reasons he has given. I've been a season ticket holder for 25yrs this season and in 2012 moyes last season the fast paced high tempo passionate technical football we played was the best I have witnessed in my 25 years.

I would advise anyone to take a look at that season highlights before I get hung out to dry as well by the way. Just my opinion but I stand by it.

Agree2 Disagree0

30 May 2016 22:12:59
My sentiments too JAY1878. Our possession stats that season were tremendous. and not just aimlessly passing the ball sideways. We may have had 2 ageing center halves and one of them is still our best one and club captain.3 years later! We had the best 2 overlapping fullbacks whipping in tremendous crosses and I was thoroughly entertained. much more so than under RM's style. But like I say in the original post. I don't see how supporters can say they would never go again if he was appointed! I would stillgo if they appointed Kenny Dalgliesh!

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2016 14:46:40
I have to agree I really don't want Moyes back and not because of the way he acted when he left but because we are in a position to attract a much higher calibre of manager and we should be aiming for those heights but I will still support the blue and white if he does i'm not a Manager supporter I'm an Everton supporter good or bad and will be till I die!

I'm very much torn on the Stones thing. I would take huge money for him but I have this feeling he will turn out to be world class. So if he went I'd be gutted. Plus it will add to the media opinion that anyone good at Everton must be moved on to Man U.

So I'd like to keep him but will he grow out of making these school boy errors? I don't know. Has he been ruined by Martinez? Probably

So I'm torn on whether to stick or twist.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - im in that boat as well ace..

30 May 2016 13:35:42
I'd keep him. Under proper defensive coaching and management he can achieve his potential at Everton. I'd be more confident Stones will eventually live up to the hype and become world class than I would with Lukaku.

No doubt Lukaku is very good but he had everything going for him at Everton. Martinez seemed determined to develop Lukaku and make our play suit him so I'd be interested to see how he'd get on somewhere else where he mightn't get as much 'help' if you wanna call it that.

Stones I'd try and keep at all costs. Top player, I just hope our new manager and our new found desire for success financially convinces Stones he's as well at Everton as anywhere. If the news of the offer to Koeman by Everton recently is true then I think it will change some peoples opinion on the future of Everton.

The tabloids may be losing the run of themselves by claiming we are prepared to offer Koeman £6m a year and Harte £200,000 a week. But if its true and its sustainable for the foreseeable future then maybe, just maybe, we'll be back competing at the very top again.

30 May 2016 14:03:05
The way Stones has conducted himself over the last year or so since Chelsea came hunting, he has been a credit to himself and club. The media storm around him for such a young lad was very unfair.
I also think his critics have been unfair, he's a class player and young for his position. He's had a manager who hasn't had a clue how to get the best from him, had constantly changing defensive partners, an overweight keeper behind him, an England left back sulking, spent a lot of time covering for out of form players in front of him.
If anything he has suffered covering for inferior players.
It seems the crowd panic more than he does not used to English defenders who can play a bit.
I think he'd be brilliant in a back three or defensive midfielder, alongside Galloway. The cup semi-final second half is evidence of what he could become.

Yep I know I am biased let's face it we all are,

RK must by now see the determination of FM in making our club a genuine contender in the PL, plus the Gunners fans are more for Simeone and hardly rate Koeman at all whereas we think he's the 'bees knees'

I see Koeman is still being talked about and there is negativity about it only being for a season as he would leave, well I would like to think that if a deal is brokered for Koeman the long term goals are sold to him, a giant club that is now stirring from its slumber now with some financial backing to change matters both on and off the pitch, next season will be transition but any manager that comes into us will have that however if they are the right manager they will be creating a new chapter in the history of Everton, Kenwright had his time and I thank him and Moyes for the direction they took us and the stability that was installed its a shame that has been undone in the last two seasons however now is the time for Farhad Moshiri and I am excited about the direction he is going to take our club!
