Magnificent performance today, an absolute joy to watch. Oviedo looks a class act on the ball. Natural born footballer with two great feet. Exceptional link up play with Pienaar all game. Couldn't believe what I was seeing got to say. He will be given more testing times defensively though for sure. Interesting to see Roberto experiment with the 3 at back for the last 15, maybe he will suprise Utd by starting with it, allowing Oviedo and Coleman a bit more protection to go out and reproduce what they did today.

Pienaar was the outstanding player for me yesterday - he didn't stop working all game. Those who view Oviedo as a lightweight squad player, thrown on in the cup games and at the fag end of league matches, might have second thoughts. He stepped up yesterday. No sign of nerves - just got on with it and seemed to relish the challenge. The players' reaction to his goal was a great moment.

If Baines does go in January (which seems to be the consensus), his injury couldn't have come at a more opportune time (in terms of introducing a replacement and preparing the team for life without him). It seems to be the Everton way that we just get on with it when a 'big' players goes.

The amount of bold decision making and creative play on show yesterday is ample proof that you don't need to pimp your club out to a Thaksin Shinawatra to shine.

United will be a tough test, but if we can keep Saturday's verve ticking over until Wednesday night, we might see David Moyes looking as stony-faced as he was last time he faced Roberto Martinez.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with all of that kenny...good post mate

Top stuff Kenny. Couldn't agree more.

Unreal football from our lads today. No baines, Barkley or Mirallas and we played like that. It clearly shows that we are strong as a sqaud and I have to say that Martinez's positivity surely helped today when we missed Baines. Can't wait to face gollum, what a match that is going to be.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - there was a poll the other day about evertons best signing, for me bobby martinez eclipses every player for that accolade! he is just so positive, and nothing seems to faze the guy!...but united at OT will be a very tough test..

Two difficult games ahead and, at worst, we could lose both 3-0. But what we know is that, if we lose, we will have done so trying to win. Robby is so positive and, for me, a top 6 finish, playing the style of football we saw today, would be very acceptable. I'm really enjoying watching us play, for the first time in any years. Very Everton!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think we are all enjoying the ride mate, and long may it continue..

Totally agree, first time in 45 years of watching everton I'm not biting my nails. If this continues I'll look like nosferatu at the end of season

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to say oviedo was what I was most interested in seeing and the guy done well, seems to have taken a leaf out of bainseys book and being a midfielder natrually he's great going foward, a goal, a assist and a clean sheet, thought barry was immense again also.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no complaints from me mate..

I saw the match live here in Toronto today. I was similing inside and out. The boys showed talent and had the local TV "experts" drooling. It was a pleasure to watch. It would be great if a better rate of return of prime goalscoring chances were coverted at anearlier time but I'm not complaining! COYB

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yea I agree, if there was one negative point to pick out from the game today it was that we didn't score more goals given the chances. You won't hear many blues complaining though, and especially not me!

I couldn't mark anyone below an 8 today, that was all round a very very good performance against a team we normally struggle against, bit more composure we couldve scored another 4
We made Stoke lok Pretty poor, very good ball retention, great Desire to win back possession, great attacking play while staying strong t the back.even mark Hughes said we were just too good for them
This was without mirellas, baines and barclay
We are improving all the time, no doubts we will have some off days but t the moment we are just great to watch and growing in confidence
Personally with the same attitude, workrate and forward play I firmly believe we can go to old Trafford and turn them over, beats the old moyes tactics handsdown
Watch out gollum your Next
Great times ahead, proud and excited to be blue Long may it continue

Watch out gollum

With a bit of luck we might just get out of there alive. But seriously, if we play like we have done the last 2 games I fancy us to win comfortably. One thing's for sure, we'll go there to win and show no fear. For the first time in years we can go there and not defend for our lives and carry a genuine threat. And our bench is looking healthy. Ratings:

Howard-7-dealt with everything very well and was comfortable when needed

Coleman-8-got forward better second half and kept assaidi quiet and of course the goal

Jagielka-8-so comfortable on the ball and without it, solid play

Distin-8-got forward a couple if times and dealt well when needed

Oviedo-8.5-had a great game, good goal, got stuck in and was a threat all game

Barry-9-worda cannot describe this player, was flawless again, good passing, got stuck in and was always available for a pass

Mccarthy-9-this lad can be world class, so good with and without the ball, has everything and was great again today

Deulofeu-8.5-okay at best first half despite goal, second half his runs were amazing and was unpredicitble, top performance today

Osman-7.5-tidy today and was very good, always a danger around the penalty area

Pienaar-9.5-thought he was unbelievable today, passing, link up and first touch were amazing, had his best game ever for us imo, hopefully this and the derby are the start of a good run for him

Lukaku-8-desperate to score and did so eventually, outpaced and outmuscled them all game, worked hard and played well as a whole

Stones-7-dealt with jones well and looked very relaxed, still young and will only get better

Jelavic-6-looked lively, despite him being awful it would of been brilliant to see him score and celebrate with the fans but missed a one on one chance, shame, but enough is enough now

Mirallas-6-not on enough to do anything but looked interested and nearly scored but good save by begovic

Whole team was great, best performance as aa whole all season today and long may it continue, martinez is top class, come on blues!

I think Distin desreves a 9 rating today. Was absolutely magnificent in my opinion. Defended superbly, he got forward when he needed to, and I thought he made some great passes today which is surprising.

Nice post Mike. I missed the game so will be watching shortly. Nice to see you rated Pienaar and Osman well this week. I still think they both can still do it for us. All the posts seem happy ones tonight. let's all have a well earned beer lads. Beer in fridge and TV ready. not the same as Goodison but will have to do.

Yes nice post mike but I think you were a bit unfair on Jelavic, you say mirallas shot was a great save but jelavic was a miss to me they were both great saves don't get me wrong i'm not saying jelavic is worth a place in the team but at least judge all the players by the same criteria.

Your in for a treat Degsy. Probably the best I have ever seen us play, the football was phenominal.

Toffee al, begovic couldn't see the mirallas shot and reacted very well, jela had all day to place his shot and hit it straight at begovic and it was an easy save but more so a poor finish which was jelabics fault rather than begovic's heroics

Great post, but its 10s for the entire starting 11 for me. Couldn't ask for more, all in all it was one of the best performances I have ever witnessed at Goodison in terms of dominance and quality of play. You could literally go through each player as to why he could have been MOTM. Will be fascinating to see how we set up against Utd.

Osman, Pienaar, Coleman, Barry, Coleman fantastic today! Thank God [certain people] don't have any decision on who we buy and sell. COYB!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Come on guys, this is clearly an inflammotory post. If he's allowed to spout his insults and reach for the moral high ground, counter arguments should be allowed.??????

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont see it as inflamatory mate, just a response to some of the negative posts we sometimes have about the players not being up to the job..

Clowns? All encompassing, sweeping generalisation, if I've ever saw one, the guy clearly thinks he's superior to label everyone a clown!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree it was not the best choice of words, but lets just move on..

Sry last name on list was supposed to be McCarthy! Not labelling everyone a clown. Just those that wanted us to get rid of Coleman this time last year saying he was rubbish when he has gone on to become one of the best right backs in the league. Constantly tear Ossie to shreds. Slam Pienaar and say he is not up to it any more (when he was outstanding today). And were outraged at the idea of signing 'sideways' Barry and 'championship class' McCarthy.

As I said thank God there are people who know what they are doing in charge of these matters! You can take offense if you like but someone has got to say it! COYB!

aflm78

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe you should be clearer in future? Some of us do know a player when we see one. Some don't, though 'clowns' is a bit harsh, your highness.

Agree0 Disagree0

Take clowns out, and it is a cracking statement. I think the excitement and emotion from today has carried through in his message. let's all just enjoy what has been a fantastic day!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you there mate..

I think you need to climb in the freezer and cool down, taking it a bit personal, wonder why?

Agree0 Disagree0

i did tell you we were moving on!...this thread is now finished, i wont have petty and sill arguments between posters ruining the credibility of the site.

Agree0 Disagree0

AFLM, spot on. Maybe clowns a but extreme though! The lads have done themselves proud this year, every one deserves to wear the shirt. We have no deadwood (okay, maybe Heitinga). Every player can produce on the day. Even Naismith has popped up with a winner v Chelsea which was set up by Jela. That was a huge win for us since we had drawn 3 on bounce at that stage. Great to see contributions from everyone. If they stick on the blue shirt, I'll support them through thick and thin.
Hank

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok I retract the clowns statement! I was buzzing after the game and got a bit carried away with my choice of words but the fact remains that some people are far to quick to write players off! This time last yr people literally wanted to give Coleman away and some of the comments on here were quite simply disgraceful just because he had a cpl of bad games when he first moved back to RB. And as for Pienaar he was injured for 7wks and came back slowly. hardly enough reason to call for him to be moved on. He has been fantastic in the last 2 games and McCarthy and Barry look like they have been playing together for yrs and are dominating games in midfield. Yet as soon as one of them has a bad game people want to get rid. It's a little annoying that's all. Anyway loving life under RM so far! COYB!

Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Oviedo, Deulofeu, McCarthy, Barry, Pienaar, Osman, Lukaku.
No Kev or Ross starting, both on the bench. Roberto obviously thinking of United on Wednesday. What do you reckon Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is simply making the best use of the squad he has.}

In hindsight, what do you reckon Joe?

Why do most people think McGready is terrible? I've seen him play quite a lot and have always been impressed and his stats back that up

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its not that he's terrible. he's greedy, and played in two uncompetitive leagues. and is very average in russia

Scousedownsouth

Agree0 Disagree0

So he's greedy you say, unlike Mirrilas who always passes and also played in the very high standard greek league before joining us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mirralas was playing in a excellent Belgium team, scoring goals for fun and outshining everyone he played against. mcgreedy couldn't score in the scottish league.

Scousedownsouth

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's a decent player. Mirallas and Deulofeu are both very greedy, and not many people have a problem with them. Provided he's cheap, I'd be happy for us to give him a go

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Dec 2013 01:05:00
Deulofeu is 19 and today showed he can do stuff with that greed, mirallas is not as greedy as he was last season and even when he was he was still able to do well, mcgeady on the other hand is always crap for ireland and crap in any champions league game, he is overrated, give me mirallas and deulofeu any day and mcgeady on a permanent deal or deulofeu for one more season, give me doofy loofy any day
