I think this season is going to be one of the most frustrating seasons in a really long time. Relegation is no longer a worry, however this side must be given time to adjust to the new regime. Martinez nearly killed this club and we have a long way back before talking top 6 etc. There are games this year where we will play like a Barcelona and then games where we will play like A Sunday team. Our best and worst is a long way apart. That's the reality of this team. So let's enjoy the wins and don't get too downcast on the losses.

How many of the current 25-player aged-over-21 squad are good enough?
Stek and Robles both don't convince as top 'keepers.
Baines, Jagielka, Williams and Barry are good, but the wrong side of 30.
Coleman usually does well going forward, but is exposed defensively.
Oviedo isn't a Premier League defender. Funes Mori doesn't convince either.
Browning and Pennington are unproven.
Gueye is good, but needs better midfield partners. Cleverley is OK, but neither he, nor McCarthy and Gibson, convince for RK's style of pressing play. Besic is unlucky with injuries.
Barkley is an enigma - all the technical skill, but does he understand the game?
Mirallas, Deulofeu and Lennon are decent players, but are they suited to RK's style of play?
Kone and Niasse are clearly not good enough. Valencia is an unknown quantity for us.
Bolasie and Lukaku need better service and better players around them.
We need our talented youngsters to come through AND we need SW to recruit better players for the squad AND we need RK to create an effective team with all of them.

So, I imagine the person who "disagreed" thinks that the current squad is good enough. Well, he's entitled to his opinion, but I suspect he's in the minority.

{Ed025's Note - so do i mate..

I agreed with your post Sid. Its a fair enough analysis at the moment. As negative as it is there is still a decent starting 11 from that list.

The squad has its problems but nothing that won't be sorted. It will take one thing, which is time.

I'd be a bit more optimistic with our squad than you Sid. With the addition of 3 - 5 players it will be a very strong squad. Players and teams are constantly changing.

Thank god ours will be changing for the better under Koeman and Walsh. The squad is good enough for now even though I agree with your post. A few twicks here and there and we will be on the road to glory.

Going through a sticky patch at the moment. We will get back to a winning streak again, guaranteed. Its early days. Hell, tomorrow is the first day of October. A lot will happen between now and the end of the year. Never mind between now and May.

My guess is it will be an improvement on last year.

NBTB: to create room for 3 to 5 new players, which 3 to 5 current squad members would you move on?

Barkley looked a broken man when he walked off after being substituted he needs dropping and we have to stop saying he is one of us.

I thought he was woeful plenty of running around but the ball bounced off him to the oppostion all night please pls get creative midfielders in January they r a must. At least we didn't get beat thankfully.

Watching the blues tonight was like watching Roy Hodsons England, very frustrating basically, our early season bubble has somewhat blown away for now hopefully to return soon. much more quality personnel needed from midfield to the forward line - January window can't come quickly enough.

Sorry guys if Martinez was still in charge we would want his head! Koeman has to turn this around!
We have not played a top side yet and it's not good enough!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - hes only 7 games in to his tenure wakka, its a building job he said so give the guy a break will you mate..

30 Sep 2016 22:18:18
Talk of the title, top 4 and Koeman being the Messiah was ludicrous after 5 games. Now let's see where we are in a few months, midtable is my guess and about right for the players we have.

It's tough Ed025 same players but no improvement tonite, I saw this happening earlier even had a bet on a draw, at what point other than changing personnel will it improve? 4-2-3-1 but only one natural wide player in the 3? Sorry Ed025 but I have to question what's really improving?
If we want to move up a level we must constantly question our improvement and at this point it needs to be better, we have played nobody in the top 6 yet and we are struggling!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - for me its a work in progress wakka and until RK gets his own players in or the present crew can adapt then its going to be tough, have patience mate and i know its not great at the moment but it will pay off in time..

30 Sep 2016 22:26:29
Ed025: RK said he'll need a few transfer windows to get the squad/ team he wants for Everton. A lot of the current players aren't good enough - and several others are the wrong side of thirty - so replacements will be needed. Give him a chance!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i concur sid, it wont be his team till next season and then if its still poor we can start asking questions mate, its a bit early yet to be judging the guy..

30 Sep 2016 22:28:51
We are a million miles from being any sort of contender, let's keep plugging away and hopefully we will see an improvement, but as the old saying goes you cannot make a silk purse from a sows ear! Say no more.

This is our transition season and we will have many more games like tonight were teams come to frustrate and use aerial ability to expose our lack of height. There were many times that the Palace back line and midfielders were allowed to bring the ball down and turn defence into attack due to us not closing down quick enough. Koeman wants all players including the front men to close down the ball to force errors and play with a high intensity pressing game. He cannot be expected to achieve this after 7 games with almost the same personnel who have never been trained to play this way. I have not set my expectation high for this season and would be happy with a top 8 finish and then with a season under his belt and a full pre season without an international tournament we can hope to see Koemans team playing his way.

{Ed025's Note - good post that gray..

Have a look at Koemans interview with Carragher on Sky Sports, he mentions how this is his expectation and his philosophy to not only play good football and work with the ball but also to work hard when not in possession to win the ball back. So far the only players who I can say have bought into this are Barry, Gueye, Baines and Coleman. Now that's 4 out of 10 outfield players. If your front men and wide men aren't doing the pressing then the midfield is exposed and that was apparent tonight with the time the Palace midfielders had to control and turn. Yes we need flair to unlock defences but we also need discipline to control games and set the tempo.

It is like some of you (toffeeapple) just switch off when anything is posted or happens to disagree with your view point. Koeman has already stated it will take 2 years. No we will not finish mid table, we will finish top 7.

No Bill. I'm just not deluded like some of you. Koeman is not a top manager and our squad is weak compared to teams that the likes of you think we will be finishing above. You can say what you like William, I couldn't care what you post. Keep dreaming.

Got to say I'm a bit nervous about tonight's game, Palace are a strong physical side and if we start the way we have in our last couple of games they are going to put us under a lot of pressure. We have been starting far to slowly almost like under Martinez, we need the crowd behind and the team reacting with much more pace and directness!
Lukaku needs to be hungry tonight there will be direct comparisons with Benteke and we need him firing! I'm not sure if he will stick with Barkley or change things slightly maybe give Mirallas the role.

All my worries realised! We were poor! To many players underperforming only Gueye and Lukaku any credibility, we are flattering to deceive we have not played a top side and struggle against below average teams.
Where do you start, personally the manager has to take responsibility and then sort his players!
We need a massive rebuild, lack of quality confidence and leadership at Everton!
