Holgate and Dowell out on loan, Dowell yet again. I rate both players but Holgate in particular as RB and CB, not as tall as Mina but doesn't make as many mistakes as we saw from Mina against Brighton. Just my opinion peeps.

Review Of The Day 31st December 2018

31 Dec 2018 07:29:02
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Review Of The Day 31st December 2018

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Dec 2018 00:00:04
woburn gana actually has a pass completion rate ov 84.7%.
Fernandiho 88.1.
kante 88.4
fabinho 83.3
doucoure who everyone says is the upgrade actually has worse pass completion than gana 82.6% and only averages 2.3 tackles a game. i think we need to keep gana he's ridiculously under rated.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - those stats are meaningless though mate. Doucoure makes passes that are a lot more difficult than anything Gueye is capable of. But trying them, instead of the usual 5 yard passes Gueye does, means he will lower his stats. He also isn't a reckless headless chicken who rushes into needless tackles raising his tackling stats pointlessly. I notice you miss out the assists stat, as that shows Gueye does nothing offensively, while Doucoure has 5 assists so far this season.}

31 Dec 2018 06:02:34
And 3 goals. Gueye has been a good buy for us but I do believe Doucoure would be an improvement, especially offensively.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - good point. Gueye was good for the level Everton were at, but he is not good enough for the next level, was what I was trying to say.

Having said that, I don't think he is really holding you back in the same way the lack of a top class striker and right winger is.}

31 Dec 2018 09:22:32
for me doucoure is a completly different type of player, for me and this is just my opinion doucoure is more of a gomes alternative not a gana replacement. i don't no how u can say he does needless tackles, surely if the opposition has the ball and he wins it back its not needless is it its winning the ball back?

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 10:14:43
You are right Johny, it is a game of opinions. I rate Gueye but he needs to do more offensively and, halfway through season with no goals, no assists isn't good enough for a midfielder, albeit the defensive midfielder. I also agree with Ed001 on this though, another striker is a higher priority. Even a strengthening at right back or right wing or second choice goalkeeper would get my vote over replacing Gueye.

Having said all that I do still believe Doucore or Ndombele would be an upgrade.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Ndombele sure as hell is not an option for Everton.}

31 Dec 2018 12:02:53
I would rather keep Gueye as CDM and replace Schneiderlin with Doucoure. In reality though Gueye would depart to make it financially viable.
We still have Schneiderlin, McCarthy, Davies and Banigime. We don’t want our youngsters leaving or not getting opportunities so I think either Schneiderlin or McCarthy will leave.
Ed’s know anything behind the scenes about Banigime not having opportunities he looked good when Unsworth gave him a chance and looked ready physically to make the step up. I understand he won’t get ahead of Gomes and Gueye but others like Dowell have had some opportunities in Cup games etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Banigime is still one for the future.}

31 Dec 2018 13:06:02
Thanks Ed just seems a lot of players ahead of him at the moment.

Great post 001.

Stats for pass completion can be misleading, if you look at most teams, they play it to and fro to a team mate, sometimes ending up in 6 passes with the ball travelling about 2 feet between the 2 players, this will then make total passes look much better than they actually are for the player.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 17:10:28
i no that nev but his job os win the ball and lay it off if that's 3 yards 2 yards who cares win the ball back lay it off job done and he does his job very effectively.

31 Dec 2018 18:47:19
Think ed said it all really.

31 Dec 2018 21:54:52
The issue I have with Gueye is that he goes out of position to make tackles thus leaving us vulnerable for a pacey counter attack. Sometimes a bit of positional economy is more valuable than breaking up play.

If we were better at high press then he wouldn’t have to tackle as much in areas where there should be a shared responsibility.

His timing in the tackle is excellent but he has improvements to make.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 22:23:07
I must confess that I am not well versed in the attributes of what Doucoure would bring but from what I have seen he does seem to offer the defensive cover side that Gana brings but then can also set an attack in motion with a forward or attacking pass.

Now from my limited knowledge that to me is an instant improvement as instead of a lay off and then an attacking pass we’ve cut out that lay off and moving into attack quicker giving the opposition less time to organise.

After so many years without winning a trophy it's not a surprise that patience is wearing thin with some supporters but patience is exactly what we need to show just now.

I said it at the time and I'll say it again I think the last transfer window was a great one for Everton. Is anyone questioning the quality of Digne, Bernard, Richarlison. Gomes or Zouma? The only downer was that Gomes and Zouma were not permanent deals but hopefully that can be rectified in the future. A great first close season for Brands in particular and for Silva because these players came to play for Everton because he was the manager, not because they thought he'd be gone in six months.

Unfortunately though it's like a leaky tyre. You fix the left side, strengthen (a bit contentious for some) the defence and all of a sudden the right side is weak and the centre of attack needs attention.

That's why we all need patience.

Give Brands another couple of windows to get rid of some more of the high wage earners not playing and let him (with Silva's input) add even more quality to our squad.

Silva needs our patience too. How many managers come into a side and turn it around overnight? I can think of Ranierri at Leicester (his first and only trophy) .

Guardiola took until his second season at City, Mourhino won titles in his second season but both spent far more than Everton has been capable of. Klopp and Pochettino still won nothing.

This is real life, not a magicians convention pulling titles out of a hat It will take time, lots of effort and yes, some mistakes along the way but I have seen improvements. In the squad. in the play and in the support.

Let's give the team the patience it needs to develop. Maybe Silva won't work out. I think he will but it will take time.

In the meantime I wish all Evertonians a happy New Year and, more importantly, more progress to where we all want to be

COYB.

{Ed0333's Note - Mourinho won 3 titles in his FIRST season at United. The Europa league, the league cup and the charity shield.

31 Dec 2018 05:38:55
By titles I am talking the Premiership, not cup competitions.

31 Dec 2018 10:50:23
who counts the charity shield hahahahaha.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 12:49:33
I do! If we have won it then it means we are either Premier League Champions, FA Cup winners, or both. I would love to say we have won the Charity Shield :-)

31 Dec 2018 14:19:07
I would be happy if we came second in the charity shield.

31 Dec 2018 14:27:01
so nick would u say jose won the treble or would u say he won the league cup and europa league.

31 Dec 2018 17:10:36
A big chance for Silva to have a real go at the f a cup.

A lot of the top teams are still in Europe, so may not be as keen early doors.

Forget it being a lower placed team, Everton must go all out to try and win this, without making drastic changes to the team, strongest 11 please Silva, from start and as far as our cup run can take us.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 18:13:39
Johny I would say he won two trophies to add to the mass of silverware they have and we have not. In my opinion a double or treble does not include the charity shield, although that piece of silverware in itself is self explanatory. I would be quite happy contesting the charity shield each year :-)

31 Dec 2018 21:39:46
You started of by saying trophy.

01 Jan 2019 13:46:17
Just to throw a curveball in there you could win the charity shield and not have won either the premier league or fa cup if another team had won both.
